So here's the grand finale thread I've been meaning to make for the past week. It brings together stuff I've posted in other threads and sort of highlights some things. Oh, and I'll be posting any ideas I get here from now on!

To be fair, I'd be happy to participate in other players' ideas too. I just haven't found one that really matches my interests yet. But I might just step out of my comfort zone; just don't plan on it often. I'm kind of jealous of you players who are open to almost any genre. You've honestly got a gift I tend to lack. It's my loss, but it doesn't have to be yours.

First, a little about me and what I like, summarized in bite form:

- I'm an upstart Psychology major with an interest in exploring characters' inner depths and struggles.

- My RL gender/sex shouldn't matter. I keep IC and OOC separate.

- Don't have a set post limit, but I personally tend to write 2+ paragraphs.

- Not against romance, but prefer more than that to a plot. Way more.

- This shouldn't be an issue, but I like my RPs cooperative, not competitive.

- In contrast, this may be a big issue: I'm uncomfortable with settings that include a lot of superhuman (or anime) physics. Yep, there went a good majority of you. ?? ???

- No soap operas. Petty problems of characters aren't enough to hold my interest unless I already know them well. Well, there goes the other half of you. ??? But, to be fair, I'm okay with some drama in general.

- Love sci-fi and anything with a theme (be it sci-fi or not). Isaac Asimov and Robert Ludlum are my favorite authors. Where fantasy's involved, I enjoy low fantasy the most.

- Continuities should be consistent with themselves. If I was to ever fail to understand and enjoy a story, it's because one day our characters are on a science ship and the next it's a warship. Magic that relies on something as subjective as emotions is often just as incoherent to me when writing.

Second, a few broad ideas to get this thread started! Bear in mind that these ideas won't be repeated in any future posts I make to this thread. Some of my future plot ideas may take place in any of these continuities though.

Also worth mentioning ahead of time: while I come up with plots and post them here, they're not absolutely required. Everyone is free to pick and choose any or none of them! Sometimes I craft plots around characters, so once I learn about your character, together we can build a plot that will better suit both our characters in tandem. ^^

1. The Nasirian Knights. Genre: Low Fantasy, later bordering on High Fantasy.

Meant to be an adventurous foray into a medieval setting without strong magic, this idea came about as a result of many inspirations. It started as a Furcadia-based group and sort of evolved from there. The basic premise is player characters would form part of an "organization" called the Nasirian Knights, whose job is to unite the nation of Nasiria (then separated into many dynasties fighting for power) in order to meet an unknown threat to the world in the future. Ironically, the Knights themselves are divided into four orders, each with completely different ideas on how to accomplish this goal.

This idea would implement a fairly unique idea: starting off in a world without magic, but slowly introducing said magic over a long course of time. By the point magic plays a major role, our characters would be quite old. That's another theme too, by the way: growing up and facing a world that's swiftly changing around you. Players would also create these characters' younger descendants or successors to highlight the contrast between the old and the new.

Just a quick summary of the four orders, each with a different stylized focus:

First Order - Action-Adventure & Military Fiction

Second Order - Fantasy Quests & Exploration

Third Order - Political Intrigue & Thriller Fiction

Fourth Order - Science Fantasy & Mystery Fiction

More information can be found here.

2. Shadow of the Eclipse
. Genre: Adventure-Social Science Fiction (with a few Fantasy elements) and/or Multi-Genre.

Yes, it's meant to be "Shadow", not "Shadows", but I won't nitpick too much about that. When I posted it here in its present form with Jerome, I had the idea of developing at least one of the many different realities this continuity would involve. Y-001 (or Y-003; not really settled on which one just yet) is a reality of this continuity which falls in the nanopunk category, with strong Deus Ex undertones and a similar theme. An interesting point was to show how technology could go right despite human flaws. Lots of paranoia and intrigue help illustrate how a fanatical refusal to break with tradition can cause more harm than good, although excessive openness leads to equally harmful consequences.

Originally, this continuity involved a concept very loosely based off of Sliders. Player characters would start in one of 45 different realities (alternate versions of the same world where events happened differently) and find themselves waking up after a global catastrophe which split the world into "fractures" - pieces of all 45 realities. While dealing with each others' differences, the people of these realities try and solve what caused the problem and how to return things to normal. This concept could involve lots of adventure and plenty of opportunities for character development and world building in equal shares. To be fair, I tried to encompass as many genres as possible by having different realities embody different genres.

The difference with most "multiverse" RPs, however, is that this involves /realities/. So instead of separate worlds entirely, these "universes" are all meant to clearly be alternate versions of each other. My decision to only develop one of these at a time was to help ease players into the setting first while giving us time to develop each one more closely.

More information can be found here.
3. Project Oneiroi. Genre: Science Fantasy Semi-Fandom.

This one is highly metaphysical and extremely philosophical. Those are probably the reasons it didn't get much attention when I first created it. The whole concept revolves around the questions religion has been trying to answer for millennia. What is the nature of the universe? Why are we here? How do we define "me"? Am I the body, brain, soul... emotions, memories, personality, or none of the above? Oneiroi makes use of ideas stemming from various philosophies and a few religions to try and 'answer' those questions - for our characters at least!

Making use of some aspects of other continuities seen on TV or in video games, this setting puts player characters into a unique position: as the players themselves. Project Oneiroi involves the use of a device developed from research conducted by a rival of the DHARMA Initiative and mixes in elements of Assassin's Creed's Abstergo, Deus Ex's Sarif Industries, and Stargate SG-1's National Intelligence Division. This device, like the animus, taps into a user's mind and fills them with the experiences of another character. But instead of reading genetic memory, users experience life in another character whose "realness" is questionable - an avatar of sorts. However, PCs don't control these avatars directly, nor can they really communicate with them... at first. There's a massive conspiracy tied in with all the continuities I mentioned, and player characters will be drawn into it over time.

There's also quite a few other "projects" tied together with Oneiroi, including Project Sacrament, which works closely with Area 51 and the SCP Foundation. Another interesting one is Project Tartarus, which involves a darker take on the Kingdom Hearts universe. I even worked on a wiki written from an in-universe perspective for this one, though it hasn't been updated or worked on in quite a while.

More information can be found here. A summary is also available.
4. Truth & Void. Genre: All of the above + Crossover-Fandom.

It starts at the beginning of the universe, when everything was being formed. Nobody "today" realizes it, but there was a reason for it: the machinations of Corona, who lacks either a singular or multitudinous presence, in a struggle with the latent Omega Continuum. Upon the exile of Corona to the expanse between galaxies, it/they merge with the Route of Ages to form the Abyss (Andromeda) and create offspring which manipulate events to some ultimate end known to some as the "Shade". Meanwhile, the first of the Alterans (Stargate) evolves, and the rest... is history. The actual RP may start with the ronay civilization of Garternay (Myst/Riven), but there's more potential starting points than that!

Nobody has to know all of the continuities used, but you might need a broad set of interests! ( :P )

There's a massive number of continuities which are involved, but here's the ones it's got so far: Andromeda, bits of Star Trek (TNG/DS9/VOY), Stargate (SG1/ATL), Myst, bits of Babylon 5, a darker twist on Pokemon, Mass Effect, Haruhi Suzumiya, X-COM, Independence Day, Hyrule Total War (darker Legend of Zelda), Star Wars, Elder Scrolls, Kingdom Hearts, Fable (wiki), Assassin's Creed, Alien vs. Predator, Lord of the Rings, and more...

One of the main starting points involves a "hub" world where characters become part of a group called the "Circle". They may get involved in quests that take them across the multiverse, their bodies morphing to better fit each universe they come across. Ultimately, the Circle's goal is to contain a powerful particle known as the Omega in each universe and keep others from using it. Furthermore, they may have to manipulate events and play a significant role in the histories of those universes to prevent the rise to power of those who would try and abuse Omega.

More information can be found here, though at the moment, it only describes a hub universe and a few other things.
Third, may I interest you all in a free pen for everyone who RPs with me? (':3)

Hi ya. I'm Viska.

I would love to Rp with you, but I'm afraid my style may be a teeny bit outside your search perpetrators.

BUT I wanted to say hello and let you know I like you as a person (^U^)

Any-who, I hope you find some one who fits the bill soon.

Thank you for the kind sentiment! (^.^) May I ask how your style is outside my search perimeters? If you'd rather, you could respond via PM. I'd rather not make anyone feel uncomfortable with my questions, but I enjoy learning about others!

oh it's quite alright.

to put it simply: I'm a romance loving, fantasy/furry nut. I a fall into most of the categories you said you weren't looking for lol

Haha, I see. I apologize that my interests don't match yours much. (' :) ) I honestly don't mean to offend anyone, and I hope my opening post didn't come off that way. Besides, I wouldn't mind making new friends or acquaintances, even if we don't RP! It's nice to hear a different perspective from time to time. Thank you again for the kind words. (^.^)

Of course, I love fantasy (maybe more of the Low Fantasy variety) and have RPed well with "furry nuts" in the past. ^^

Oh no, it didn't sound mean at all, I was just explaining my reaction.

Anyway, I'd be happy to be friends with ya. just PM me of you would like to chat from here on.

It's the mail box with the little Swedish flag and paw print on the side.

Great Ideas! Seldom do I ever find a Rp'er who has interests in character development at your level on this site. These are awesome, especially the first and the last plot/idea. I would love to RP with you (I also have the same interests, I want to major in Psych but I'm still in high school). But before I join, since we're both students and you being a college one, whats your rule in consistency? Once a week? Twice a week?

I won't be too much of a hassle on anyone's schedule! Once a week is a comfortable minimum, though I highly encourage players to post whenever they get any ideas or motivation. Much of my work at college is online, so I have a little more control over my schedule than most, I assume!

Character development is a definite necessity in my book. My favorite plots are those that challenge the characters, especially in some personal way, though I do enjoy a good adventure ala (in the manner of) Stargate. (^U^)

Which of the two ideas did you find particularly engaging? What about either of them drew your attention? If I know either those things, I'll have a good idea what to focus on if/when we begin RPing. ( :) )

Out of the two that I liked, I found the last to be very interesting mainly because I have had thoughts similar to it's concept and I want to explore that through that RP.

The first is also interesting. Magic in that RP is like technology now, its revolutionary but many see it as evil and to radical. I've been wanting to play a conservative for a while hehe

Sounds good! Do you have any character ideas already, or did you want to plan one out based on either plot or continuity? By that last part, I mean would you like to have a look at some information regarding either of the continuities as reference for creating a new character, or would knowing the first plot help? I can also provide any links to my characters' profiles you might need once you've settled on which one you'd like to RP.

I think for now we can RP with the first idea because I have a character roughly made for that one. And yes to the information on what the first plot might be :) oh and yes lol, I would love to see your characters to get a feel on how they should be, sorry for needing so much

I was reading your ideas for plots and I was particularly intrigued by the third option. I have always had a fondness for the Abstergo storyline in Assassin's Creed. I'd definitely be interested in seeing how to blend the overarching themes from Assassin's Creed and Deus Ex. If you are interested in rping or even just discussing the topics, please let me know.

Certainly! The two are quite tightly intertwined in what I hope will be a unique way. Chances are, our RP would take us to Abstergo itself, or even deeper into the conspiracies in Deus Ex. It should be very interesting!

I should be open to roleplaying still, so we could always give it a go if you'd like. If you're particularly interested in world-building, we could always bounce our ideas off one another. (^U^)

I would very much like to role play, but wouldn't mind world building first to figure out where and what is going on.

The issue of transhumanism would seem to be central to whatever world we create. My assumption is that it would be fairly dystopian or at very least a Brave New World-esque place.

Actually, you're not wrong. Like Deus Ex, I hope there will be a strong transhumanist theme, though I don't plan on saying whether it's "good" or not. As far as I'm concerned, things could go right or wrong. Always depends on the circumstances!

I'll send you a PM with more information (in case I didn't post the link up somewhere in this thread already). It's a rather involved continuity with a lot of that Deus Ex-style "complexity of plot". ( :P )

Due to the surprisingly large amount of interest shown in the first and third ideas, I've included a link to their sites which include more information. The second one has a tentative work-in-progress for a site, but it may be put on hold until/unless someone expresses interest in it. At the moment, it looks like the Nasirian Knights and Project Oneiroi will take priority!

Of course, it'd probably help poor Jerome (my character for the second idea) if I actually got off my butt and posted some plot ideas for it already. There's a ton of ideas compressed into that one I could potentially work on!

Here's four plots I recently went over and worked out the kinks in. Each of them are for the Nasirian Knights continuity:

In the Wake of a Titan (45 BE) -

Since the death of Caliph Qaderi Zaahid ibn Hasan al-Yasmeen in 68 BE, the Qaderi administration collapsed. Besides the different factions of viziers, the Arlanni Valley is further divided into numerous states and tribal polities: the nomadic Hanti tribe (from the High Utlas mountains); the Alli mystics in Murrakach; a coalition of merchants under Arzemorr; a clan of escaped slaves under Banu Haala; Bedrin bandits and slave traders; and the viziers Zinida and Haffshi, supported by the Crusaders and the Mahmoud Caliphate respectively. Characters can be aligned to any or none of the factions, but now is when legends and dynasties are born...

Characters: Malika al-Jaber
Fides Exitialis (43 BE) -

Takes place in the northern reaches of the Arlanni Valley and beyond, specifically around the territory of the Mahmoud Caliphate. The Volgi, a semi-nomadic people displaced by an invasion of Crusaders, have fled east into the lands of Mahmoud. Now they stand at the gates of Qarafurait, a vast and populous city, refused entry because of their refugee status. Some already plot their revenge against the human knights from the south while others, scared and desperate, prepare to invade the city with or without the aid of sympathetic Knights.

Characters: Palmeria di Tella
The King's Folly (41 BE) -

Sultan Abdhil Murad ibn Suleyman al-Yasmeen descended into madness in the years that followed his mother's death at the hands of his uncle, circa 45 BE. After poisoning the latter, Abdhil took the throne by force and exiled his younger brother, Sayid, west. Yet in that time, the younger Abdhil married into the family of Sultan Abbas Nagib ibn Zufar Abelas al-Yasmeen and returned with an army under the command of his brother-in-law, Raihaan Amiri ibn Rahim Gamil al-Yasmeen. Murad had been a tyrant, and the people happy to be rid of him... but when Raihaan took the throne instead of Sayid, the people suffered even more. With Sayid's death the final nail in the proverbial coffin, will anyone rise up against the sadistic Raihaan?
When the Spirits Wept (38 BE) -

Takes place near and in Voshim, Dakaria. Nasirians of the Sultanate of Abdhil have had enough with the constant militant posturing of the nearby human Binaldrian Empire. To show that the lions of Nasiria won't stand by while the Binaldrian emperor pokes them with a stick, the sultan calls upon his vassal, the Emir of Fakhour, to join him in a daring invasion over the River Tyrrhan to capture the wealthiest city known far and wide: Binaldria's esteemed capital, Voshim. With its massive walls and tenacious warriors, this could be a bloody battle. But the victor, oppressing the conquered, will always find the taste of power inadequate for his/her enigmatic goals...
I should have another character to include in this continuity soon! He'll be playing the role of a Crusader from the distant land of Ingria, with a strong Celtic heritage and a slight "Arn, Knight Templar" flavor to his characterization. Aside from him, I've been working on a profile for a Knight of the First Order, in case anyone's interested in going for that particular Order. ( ;) )

Some plots specific to each Order will be coming out soon, but these are perfect "introduction" plots that could lead a character getting recruited into the player's Order of choice. Might be worth a try before jumping into any other scenario!

Recently been in the mood for some fantasy RP, but as usual, can't seem to find any Low Fantasy RPs with little magic. So to make up for that, I think I'll work some on the Nasirian Knights continuity again!

As I must have mentioned somewhere, this continuity has a lot of detailed lore. That's not to say it's a "detailed" RP though! If I recall correctly, this site defines "detailed" as RPs where 3+ paragraph posts are expected. On average, I post about 2-3 paragraphs at a time. The only times I've posted more than 3 paragraphs is outside of RP while writing on my lonesome and while starting an RP off with a description of a setting or events happening - especially in medias res.

I'll post here again later today as I come up with some new scenario ideas: one for each Order!

On another note entirely, I'm comfortable starting an RP in any of the main ways: in medias res, frame story, or ab initio.

Just let me know what you like and I'll start us off with that particular style!

How very intriguing!

I'm very interested in your Nasirian Knights Roleplay. Although I most confess, you'd have to do some explaining of the setting, and the Knights themselves to me. Since the four different orders - specifically - will need fleshing out to me, so like Raven above some world building would be nice. :D

That shouldn't be a problem! Admittedly, I linked to the site where you can find more information on them, but I'll do my best to summarize them here. Bear in mind I may miss a few details, but you should at least get the gist of them!

Ah, almost forgot, in case anyone forgets to check out the little summary in the OP: usable magic doesn't exist... in the earlier scenarios. It won't be until 25 BE that it appears again, and then not until 1 AE when it can be used. Most of the 'magic' mentioned exists only in legends. But all of these Orders, especially the Second and Fourth, take those legends very seriously!

The First Order is the most similar to "knights" in the traditional definition. They can fight for any side, or for their own, but ultimately, their goals are the same as all the other Orders: to unite Nasiria against a future, unseen foe. If roleplaying battles, warfare, or just combat in general, you may want to join this Order! It's still meant to be cooperative writing though. Any competitions over who lives and who dies is beside the point, even for the First Order.

The Second Order is closest to the "knights errant", in which they wander Nasiria (and, eventually, the world) in search of the Ethereal Shackles - mystic artifacts that contain the souls of Ancient sorcerers. When I think about it, they're kind of like the Brotherhood of Steel, but with magic. They want to keep any Ancient artifacts they find (and magic in general) out of the hands of others. Most of whatever they find gets locked away in the dungeons beneath the Temple of the Sands.

The Third Order is mainly spies and assassins. As you can probably guess, they're the least trusted of the Orders. They've got ambitions of their own, but all in all, they're still dedicated to uniting Nasiria. Any plots they're involved in will include a lot of intrigue, whether it be political or otherwise! They're not quite like the Assassins of Assassin's Creed though. Like in the other Orders, some of them have no compunction about murdering innocents to accomplish their goals.

The Fourth Order is a motley group of nomads, exiles, slaves and "heathens". They operate out of the desert itself, rather than from a city or fortress. Their main goal is, in contrast to the Second Order, to find out more about the Ancient kehlans by finding and using any artifacts they find. They're also probably the least xenophobic of the Orders. Because of their goal, most plots involving them will include a good deal of mystery! Also, they're detectives, not assassins. Few of them use violence.

And that's about it! (OuO)

It sounds epic, to sum it up in just one word. I like the sound of the first, second AND fourth. If I was to choose though, it'd probably be the first. Though I imagine the fourth would be a great amount of fun due to the rivalry with the Second order, and the large mystery element. I'll check out the link for more information! :)

Thank you! Indeed, I'd enjoy roleplaying any of them, but I admit, it's the rivalries between them that I look forward to exploring the most! You can kind of see a pattern: the Second and Fourth Orders as one set of opposites, and the First and Third Orders as another. The question is: will they ever learn to work together to unite Nasiria, or will they just divide it further?

Food for thought! (>u>)

Or will one Order wipe out the others? *Cough* not a Warlord *cough* :P

Ah, no doubt all the Orders' grandmasters would love to unite the Knights under their own banners!

Yep, I'm sensing we've got a lot of possibilities to work with here. (^U^)

Also, it appears a certain website is down. I'll see if I can dig up the article I wrote there and repost it somewhere else. Maybe I can post it here, but it should probably be somewhere that it can be easily found when searching for it.

Edit: Here it is! It's an in-depth description of the Arlanni Valley.

So I've got some new plots to get an RP started with, as promised! Worth noting, though, that I'd be happy to work around anyone's character, provided they'll work well in the setting. A jet pilot in a medieval fantasy setting doesn't work well at all!

Just to make it easier to decide if any of them strike your fancy, I've cut them down into bite-size summaries. Bear in mind you'll eventually have to look at the description of the scenario of your choice on another page, but at least this way, you might be able to tell if it'll interest you enough to read through a larger description of it in the first place! ( :P )

In the Wake of a Titan - A land torn apart by civil war. Characters choose sides or fight for themselves.

Fides Exitialis - Refugees are forced from their homes and flee to a city that refuses to take them in.

The King's Folly - A prince is dead, a tyrant's on the throne, and the king he replaced is alive and insane.

When the Spirits Wept - Warriors try to avenge the deaths of their comrades by capturing a "holy" city.

A Crimson Symphony - The First Order fight the descendants of a former Knight from centuries ago.

Latent Truths - The Second Order go on a quest to find an artifact deep beneath a cursed lake.

Oath of Honor - The Third Order decide whether or not to betray a city so they can control it.

Blood Ties - The Fourth Order search for a descendant of an Ancient before another finds them.
