Mages like Pbtenchi use inherent magic, where they take the magic that is within them to create their magic, it is powerful, and highly controlled, but if they die it ends. I use exherent magic. I act as a conduit for the magical energies that are in the world around me, converting them from one form to another and directing them as I desire. It allows me to cast more spells, and more versatile spells than Pb, but my abilities are affected by the environment, in other words if there is a lot of life energy it is harder for me to cast necromantic spells whereas if....I'm getting off topic. The point is, that when I create undead," he gestured to the skeleton, "they will remain active and animate when I die, just driven by their inherent desires to kill the living. My plan was to kill as many rats as possible, animate them, and direct them to wound the dragon enough that we could kill it. The problem arises thus, dragons are by their very nature extremely powerful exherent magic users. Remember how I said that I channel magical energy? A master exherent mage can actually channel spells cast on them, twisting them to their own magic, that's why dragons are immune to most magic. The presence of these wild undead tells me that there are four possibilities. In order from best for us to worst for us they are as follows. 1," He held up his index finger. "Another Necromancer came and tried to kill the dragon and failed, leaving a horde of wild undead roaming these ruins searching for living creatures to destroy, the dragon is still alive and roosting somewhere where the undead cannot molest it. Option 3," he held up his ring finger. "And this is where it starts to get really bad. The Necromancer came, tried my tactic and suceeded in killing the dragon. Since dragons are naturally highly exherent, the dragon would have absorbed the death energies left behind by the necromancer's attack, which would animate it as a very powerful wild undead. Imagine a dragon, now imagine that same dragon, but the weak points of the eyes and joints will no longer bother it, also anything it kills will be raised as a wild undead. And finally option 4," He held up all four of his fingers, "and I pray to the dread god that this is not the case. Is that the Dragon is a necromancer itself, or worse a dracolich, animating these creatures. The reason this would be absolutely horrible is because a dragon can only exherently channel it's base powers. So a Lightning dragon can only channel and use sky-magic, for it to be a necromancer would mean that it would also be capable of inherent magic, which means that it is far more powerful than anything we have ever seen before. Picture a dragon, now picture that it's traditional weak points won't work, now picture that it can mentally control the undead, and while they are attacking you it rips your soul out of your body, while keeping you alive, and turns your own soul against you. So you are forced to beat yourself to death while simultaneously watching yourself attack you, at which point you are enslave both body and mind as a ghost and zombie servant of the creature you came to slay." Neckros looked off into the distance. Neckros looked around. "That way." He gestured. Heading off throughout the ruins, Neckros stopped to examine the remains of the previous tenants' belongings. Stuffing a few tomes that were mostly intact into the bag. He picked up a large hollow club, bound about with iron. "Gremlin club." He explained hefting it. "Gremlins would pour various potions into the barrel, as well as an iron shot, and fire it at their enemies. If you got too close for them to use them as a shot they'd just bash you with it." He held the club out and the skeleton took it from him. He found a long red wooden staff with two brass serpents coiled around it, the two heads met over a small green gem. "A staff, attuned to life magic. Useless to me." He cast it away. "We should be getting into the main body of the ruins soon." After heading through the next door the two students were met with a faint smell of decay. Char marks coated the wall, and a cursory examination revealed that they were in what used to be a kitchen. Walking around Neckros heard a faint crunch, he looked down to see a shard of human skull, and nearby, the remains of his crawler. With a scraping and scrabbling sound 10 skeletal rats the size of small dogs with glowing red eyes burst from the shadows surrounding Neckros and Kharlia. The Bone serpents dropped from Neckros' shoulder and the skeleton set down the bag and hefted the gremlin club that it had picked up in the previous room.Anaxileah said:
