Dragons in the West

Its not so much my loss as it is my wife's. I am frustrated seeing the woman I love all tore up with grief over her sister, and I know that there is little that I can do about it other than be there for her.

How much would Zanaiya know--if anything--about Duncan's position regarding the alliance if she had started writing letters to some of her connections?

His disagreement to the treaty is public knowledge.

I haven't posted lately, trying to give everyone a chance to get your own posts in. But there is not a whole lot of action going on. I can still keep on running the game if there is still some level of interest. Is there still some people out there that want to keep going?

Good. Lets see if we can't get a couple more responses.

I may be looking to recruit more for this game. I know that there is at least one person that hasn't been on line for a long time; Phyre was going to be running a game of her own but has vanished for over a month.

Give me a day or two to see if anyone else responds to this.

Of course. I was out of the country for the period where Phyre's campaign was active, I was disappointed to see real life take her away by the time I had returned to play.

@Random Word, if you would like, go ahead and make up a character. With you and @Captain Hesperus as set players, I'll go ahead and open up the game to some new people so we can try to keep it alive. @DreamingofRoses, you put a 'like' on one of my posts here; are you still interested in this game?

Ok. Vinom has expressed an interest to brush the dust off his character, giving us four confirmed members.

Alas. I was thinking Ragara Gane, Fire Aspected Aspiring Merchant Prince, but that would overlap with Nellens Zenaiya quite a bit. I think I will instead be a Naval Officer with an ironic element like Earth or Fire.

Are Command and Arsenal viable backgrounds? I'm thinking Ledaal Juriah, Earth Aspected Navarch of the Water Fleet of the Imperial Navy. Tasked by Admiral Ledaal Calin to secure the alliance with Wavecrest, encourage anti-Skullstone sentiment, and do everything possible to assess and counter the threat posed by Skullstone. Assigned command of a small fleet of one Trireme with an Implosion Bow and a prow mounted Fire Cannon, a Marine Assault Bireme, and a single Common Warstrider designed for naval combat (Probably piloted by an Ally, or another PC). If that doesn't fit with the campaign idea, I'll come up with something else.<p><a href="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_03/LedaalJuriah_pdf.a5c97af92f362c44013fd792b4575de4" class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image"><img data-fileid="45744" src="<fileStore.core_Attachment>/monthly_2015_03/LedaalJuriah_pdf.a5c97af92f362c44013fd792b4575de4" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" alt=""></a></p>

Having command of the small fleet is problematic. It represents a investment of points that you may not get any return on. The marine contingent and the warstrider are doable, but unless there is more ocean action, you are wasting the points on ships. If you don't mind, that's ok. There is always the possibility of ship to ship combat with some of the enemies of the Realm, but I make no promises.

There are plenty of uses for ships that aren't ramming other ships, but I don't want to be dragging things in the wrong direction. Perhaps an aspiring politician looking to build a power base with an eye to being elected to the Deliberative would be more in order? I'm not sure precisely what I'd be trying to accomplish here, other than establish connections, but I could work with you to come up with a suitable intrigue. Or I could switch from Imperial Navy to Imperial Army, thought that feels amusing on an archipelago.

Oh, alternatively I could do the Section 9 of the Imperial Police. Surveillance, security, investigation, and occasionally heavy hitting hostage rescue. That might fit considerably better with the mission at hand. That sounds pretty fun.

That's a bit bloodier than I'd envisaged. I was thinking something a little bit more legitimate and upstanding. Head of a small close protection group called in for short term, high profile events. Probably a Scale of well trained and equipped Imperial Police and a Warstrider as super-heavy backup. Capable of investigating and preventing major crimes, or dealing with sudden serious escalations, all while keeping general security high.

There'd be the fun tension of being way the hell out of my jurisdiction, the subtle insinuation that the Realm already considers Wavecrest its territory, the suggestion that we don't trust their people to secure our interests.

I like that idea much better. You can also be working to broaden a spy network in the islands while you are there. Cool. I can work with that.

Hi there!

Working on a character concept; I'm thinking kind of a "House Mnemon problem child." Basically the most un-Mnemon-like Mnemon ever. Fire Aspect instead of Earth, no interest in sorcery, no interest in being a cloistered monk, would rather make a name for herself as an explorer or hero than a politician. Her parents were one of Mnemon's grandsons and a low-born servant woman, and she is sick to death of being constantly reminded of how lucky she was to Exalt and be acknowledged (or, technically, "adopted") by her House. Graduated from either the House of Bells, or Pasiap's Stair, haven't decided yet,but either way... she's basically here because House Mnemon had to send someone for political reasons, and it seemed like a good opportunity to get her out of the way.

Do you see any problems there?

Haha, I ended up picking Mnemon, too. I can totally take obnoxious stabs at your house status and you can make fun of me for washing out of the Heptagram. I'll be livid. The Deliberative sent me, so I'm not officially on House business. I don't think that conflicts.

And there'll be my monk, desperately trying to mediate these two warring cousins for the sake of the Scarlet Empire's status in the West....

Captain Hesperus

Sounds like a winner!

Of course, despite that stubborn independent streak... my character is actually grateful to her House and the Realm for the opportunities she's been given. She just doesn't like having her nose rubbed in it. So, we can join forces when the chips are down. ;)

I am getting a Familiar. Would you be alright with a custom Charm to protect it from my anima, and possibly build into greater enhancements for it later? Might not start with this, DBs are really squeezed for Charms, but something for the future.

Would the familiar have the Charm, or would you? There are already artifacts designed to protect horses from the anima of their riders; depending on what you get as a familiar, you could spend a artifact point to have a gizmo that keeps little fluffy safe from your flames (or whatever anima you have for your Caste).
