Fandom Godzilla. [2014]

Spooky Scary Skeletons!
I looked around for an RP which might have covered this story or something remotely close, but I've yet to find one. I'm thinking of starting up an RP where Godzilla comes back after the MUTO have been eradicated. At first it seems like he is mindlessly rampaging, but it becomes apparent later on that there's another Kaiju on the planet, one that had been overlooked.

I haven't nailed down the specifics of the other kaiju, but I'm debating on Biollante (disguised as a huge chunk of rainforest in South America) or Ghidorah (after having slept for so long, his body was covered in stone and earth, hiding him in the form of a mountain or volcano [Mount Saint Helens anyone?]). I don't know if anyone would be interested in this RP, but it would be fairly casual. 1-2 paragraphs per post, and I would hope for a quick posting team, but it's not necessary.

So... Any takers?

I may be interested. I am a big Godzilla buff and really enjoyed the newest movie (plus all the Japanese ones....Matthew Broderick one doesn't count...-.-) ZERO clue who or what I would play but I'll keep tabs on any details you flesh out.

+1 interested RPer

( :) )

You guys rock. I'll see what I can do about the storyline and such. Me? You know I'll be essentially playing Godzilla. -tiny roar-

I have to say I'm surprised to see someone going for a Godzilla RP. I tried here about 6 months ago and nobody took to it at all over about 3 weeks of asking around for players to join, but it seems that it was just poor timing on my part. Power to you for drawing in players this quickly.

I must admit I'm curious to see where this goes.

However, if I may make a suggestion, @cremora: I would advise that you give up the reins on Godzilla a little bit and not focus on controlling his actions too rigidly.

If you have a solid idea in mind for when Godzilla will appear and what he will do when he shows up, then be sure to tell everyone involved about it but give them some freedom when Godzilla shows up to say a few things about his actions whenever it's their turn to post. When people in your RP are posting, they are telling a miniature story about what's going on in their character's life at that particular time. It can be as short as a few seconds, or as long as a few hours.

In either case time is passing, and if they have to constantly dance around what you've said Godzilla is doing then remaining involved gets very boring very fast.

Trust me, I know. I had a Godzilla RP on another site a few years ago and it was very successful using the method I'm about to describe for you:

There are four questions you should consider answering for your role-players before each appearance by Godzilla or other Kaiju.

1) Where is he/she heading?

2) Why is he/she heading there?

3) Are your characters in his/her path or following along from a distance?

4) Is another monster set to appear, or not?

Telling everyone the answer to those four questions gives them almost everything they need to know about what to do when posting after the monster finally shows up. As I said before, it would be wise for you to give up the reins a bit and let them post about what Godzilla's doing in the background as time passes for their character. Sometimes he'll just be taking a few steps, smashing a few buildings, or giving off a roar. But don't bar anyone from posting for what he's doing completely. That would be a huge mistake.

You don't have to give up the reins completely. You retain the right as the RP's creator to say that Godzilla will or will not be engaging another monster, and you will retain the right of taking over Godzilla's actions during the fights, but over all it would be wise to let everyone have a small say in what he does casually when he's at least walking from one point to another. If they just react to what you're posting the whole time then they aren't really telling a story with you so much as trying to trace your steps, and that's not really going to be as much fun for them in the long run.

If you feel the need to moderate Godzilla a bit more closely, then you can post as one of your RP's rules that everyone is limited in their posting for Godzilla to only doing casual actions like walking, roaring, or stepping on a building while you control his direction and what gets in his way at what particular time.

But yeah, avoid trying to take complete control of Godzilla as it is a bit of a God-Mod in disguise to say "I'm in control of Godzilla." As innocent as it might sound to you when you think about retaining control of him and his actions, others may see it as "You're just trying to use that as an excuse to play Godzilla while the rest of us play the helpless victims in his path." Believe me, as it happened to me in my RP once or twice.

Just some friendly advice from one Godzilla fan to another about making a Godzilla RP. It's very tricky, so be careful and good luck!

Im so joining!

Hed be like the space nebula m.

One last thing, if I may?

Depending on how you structure your RP, if you're going to have your role-players create human characters while you introduce and control multiple monsters throughout the RP's storyline, I think it would be a good idea for informational purposes (and just plain awesomeness in general) if you built a "catalogue" of monsters in the RP so everyone knows which monsters to expect (not to mention it's just fun to see such images and talk about them OOC).

If you do decide to go that route, I'd recommend requesting a new page to put the monster information in such as a "Neutral Characters" page.

Creating a catalogue of Kaiju could be as simple as typing out the name and basic stats of the monsters. Or you could make images like the one below (which I personally find more fun to do).

I'm glad for all the interest. In regards to being all OP and taking control of Godzilla, the main reason for me doing so is for a writing challenge. I have always written my posts openly so that any effect I have on the story is as flexible as possible. The point for Godzilla and (insert other Kaiju here) would be to drive the story. There would be people surviving around that, people in the military trying to fight that, and perhaps even minor Kaiju in the midst.

I think I've narrowed the story down to the explanation as follows:

Godzilla, after having gone dormant for two years post-MUTO defeat, has once again come to the surface. Researchers and military alike are scrambling to assess the reasons which may be behind the King of Monsters' rousing, while continuing to battle the volcanic activity from Mount Saint Helens.

NATO has bolstered ties with all nations under its treaty in response to Godzilla's return, and even reluctant countries such as Russia and China have taken a vested interest in ensuring the creature will not make it to populated lands. While research continues into the behavior pattern of the beast, other scientists are in heated debate regarding protocols around the threatening eruption looming in Washington. Experts say that with each earthquake at Helens' core, the likelihood of it erupting triples.

While officials for the state and federal representatives are united in evacuating the area around the caldera, one researcher has called for a wider evacuation plan. The person, who requested to remain anonymous, has stated that the mountain is not a volcano, but a nesting ground for another ancient creature like Godzilla. They warn that if the activity with Godzilla persists, whatever creature lay beneath Mount Saint Helens will react and it could pose a threat similar to the MUTO which tore across the world in 2014.

Anyway. That's as much as I got so far in regards to in character overview. I'm thinking it's going to be Ghidorah. Plot for humans would be to figure out how to stop them both (duh). Godzilla wakes up after two or three tremors from the mountain. Goes to investigate. People panic, news feeds go nuts. Military and research teams mobilize. Escort him to washington shore where he remains dormant for 24 hours. Earthquakes every hour or so, with increasing intensity.

Late at night volcano erupts. Emergency evacuations occur. Ghidorah wakes up and breaks Mt. St. Helens. Godzilla surfaces and goes to shore to stop him. Ghidorah's rousing causes massive damages to people, nature, and civilization. Starts to migrate to flee Godzilla's attacks, but only gets as far as central or south america. There, through collaborations with world militaries, researchers specializing in Alpha predator science activate a trap, pinning both monsters into a single square mile (kind of like the force-field from Battleship).

Kaiju big battle ensues, military group and researchers allowed in to recover samples from both and assist with eliminating both creatures via (insert new mysterious technology). Item appears to succeed in killing them both, but when clean-up comes to do its job, both creatures are missing. End story.

Details would be ironed out with how the humans play a part, and neither Kaiju will really cause strict RPing for everyone else. Like I said, I've always been pretty open and fluid in my posts. They allow a lot of manipulation without losing story quality and interaction.

Let me know what my long winded post makes you think.

I like it overall, getting my creative juices flowing thinking about some character ideas.......including a few good character twists to throw in.....(} :) )

If by the end of the Ghidorah arc people are still interested in the RP, I already have an idea of how to work in another Kaiju attack later. Woo woo.

Well, I suppose it doesn't matter much anyway. I've changed my mind on this RP. I'm going to scrap it for now, maybe come back to it in the future. If I can get my other two RPs going, they should be enough. If not, I might make a xenomorph RP. Until then, thank you all for being interested. It's good to know I'm not the only Godzilla nut.
