Realistic or Modern The traveler of the late middle age

Historical Storyteller

Four Thousand Club
I wish to tell a story of a traveler in the late middle ages. It is my hope this will give us a glimpse into the lives our ancestors lived. It is meant to broaden our knowledge, to open our hearts and fill us with a sense of wonder of the past. The problem is that I need your help to begin. I also need to prepare!

May God help us.

Patience, answer the questions. Nobody here answers them, as far as I know. I hope you can be the exception and not the norm.

1. What occupation is the traveler?

2. For what reason does he travel?

3. What is his destination?

The traveler can be a farmer, craftsman or even a runaway slave. He can be a warrior, a nobleman, a peddler or a sailor.

Perhaps he is on business and wishes to sell his goods. Maybe he wants something far more precious than the things of this world and so goes on a pilgrimage. Or he wants to simply scour the land as an adventurer. Perhaps he wants to go back home to his family after a long campaign. Maybe he's on a mission to deliver a message. Or he wants to run away from his liege and has nowhere else to go.

The medieval world is a mystery to me. I need help with the destination. He needs to begin somewhere too. We'll need a travel route by land and sea.

I will give myself 3-5 months time to get the initial preparations done.

I'm this Historical_Storyteller in another account and I'm open for business! Give me a little more time and I'll sort things out. If anyone is still interested, I'll arrange something. I still have a lot of roleplays I promised to run and I will keep them in mind. I'm in debt to those people who showed interest and I want to pay them back, even if just a little.

This sounds interesting. I’d be curious to read what you come up with.

That's interesting, seems like I've got a small audience here. You haven't answered the three questions but I can write a setting up in a week, at least, or within that time. My knowledge of the middle ages and of everything relating to that is so small that it is laughable, coming from myself. Despite knowing so little about feudalism, Catholicism, medieval combat, the culture of the time and just basic knowledge in general, I'll do it! Can't promise success though. I find that none of my endeavors do when it comes to writing and that's quite discouraging. In place of that, I do promise entertainment and some company (you know we can talk about things while the story's going on).

That’s alright. I think all RPs, at conception, start with just an idea and then fleshed out with research and creativity afterwards. Even if it’s not 100% historically accurate, the setting is what drew me in. I apologize for not answering the prompts. I wasn’t sure if you were taking on players still or if it was meant hypothetically. That’s my misunderstanding. Sorry!

1. What occupation is the traveler?

- A bard

2. For what reason does he travel?

- He’s looking for inspiration or muse for his next song/ballad

3. What is his destination?

- Not one place specifically, I’d imagine he’d want to travel. I think he’s more collecting experiences as his motivation if it makes sense. If there’s a place that celebrates his form of story-telling, I’d imagine he’d want to go there.

That'll be a challenge.

And I'll take it! Though I promise it won't be the kind of character you have in mind.

I’m excited! I really like reading how creative people can be so I don’t mind it if the character is completely unconventional. Thanks for taking him on!

Out of curiosity I'd like to ask if you are interested in other professions?

EDIT: I'll add this, I can lengthen or shorten the story of a single character at will. So you may see a short story featuring one character and another character receiving entire chapters with that one participating in each one. This will give me the option of ending a story abruptly, starting another one, being able to write in the long and short run.

I think a disavowed knight looking for redemption would be interesting too.

Or maybe, if you’re looking to include some fantasy elements, some fae folk trying to navigate the human towns. They could be royalty or have some prestigious bloodline, but treated quite plainly amongst the humans.

Plot-wise, further down the line, I think it would be interesting if the characters met actually. Maybe their journies could intertwine somehow. But it’s just a suggestion.

I'll focus on the bard first. I'll get to the knight later.

No fantasy. I have reasons. One of which is that fantasy is overused.

I was thinking of getting to other kingdoms. Little chance of them meeting there. And this will occur through the ages, I think of going back to the time of the Franks all the way to the time of the persecution of Catholics in England. I wish to explore the History of the Langobards written by Paul the Deacon. If time permits and if my patience allows it, I may give it a shot. I'll be careful when dealing with people of the past, I'd hate to misrepresent them. I don't like slander and I don't like gossiping about them. This is a matter of honor. In fact, I'll be so careful, I won't be including these people at all so there'll be no room for mistakes.

Oh, and I think I'll be calling certain people who expressed interest in my RPs in the past. They did promise they'd be interested and I did promise I'd deliver.

Of course! Take your time. With the thought you put in, I’m sure it’ll be great! Let me know if you need other input.

You can talk to me, I'm not going anywhere soon.

Welp, got any hobbies? Want to talk about anything? The state of storytelling? Dare I say politics?

No worries! I’ll DM you in a bit. I’m just out right now, but I’ll be back in half an hour or so.
