"damn rain."

ichijou yoriko was walking along the sidewalk of the road, mumbling angrily to herself. she was currently soaked to the bone with rainwater, having forgotten her umbrella at home. her feet made sloshing sounds with every step she took, and her uniform was aboslutely soaked through and sticking to her body. thank gosh she was wearing her blazer and her vest, so the white shirt wouldn't show anything she didn't want to be shown. her hair hung down in strands, dripping water on her already soaked bookbag and shoes.

"stupid shitty rain, having to start after i left the house. the weatherman didn't even say it was going to rain today," she continued to grumble, radiating an aura of pure anger and frustration. people seemed to steer clear of her as they passed, each having an umbrella to keep themselves dry, earning a glare from the poor, soaked girl.

she continued to walk, seeing the bright orange tuff of hair that meant hinata was waiting for her. he had an umbrella, thank god. she hurried the last stretch, speedwalking to get under her friends umbrella as soon as possible.

"let me under," she snapped quickly, ducking under the umbrella with him and trying to contain her shivers from the chill settling into her skin and bones. now that she was actually there, she noticed someone else standing next to him, kageyama. he stared down at her from under the comfort of his own umbrella.

"why don't you have an umbrella? the news said it was going to rain today," kageyama questioned innocently before ichijou ripped at him.

"when i left the house it wasn't raining and i swear the weatherman said nothing about a chance of rain! don't bother me!" she huffed, crossing her arms and finally succumbing to the shivers that were plaguing her. hinata reaching into his volleyball bag and pulled out a black sweatshirt before draping it over the shivering girls shoulders.

"this stinks," she huffed again, nudging hinata to walk towards the gate.

"my jacket or you getting rained on?" hinata turned to look at her while they walked, heading into the gate and towards the main building to change their shoes and go to their classes.

"what do you think?" ichijou deadpanned at him, kageyama stifling a snicker while hinata pouted at the girl. they made it into the building and changed their shoes, kageyama and hinata beginning to argue about something stupid when someone approached them. it was nishinoya, with tanaka not far behind. ichijou took a deep breath, ready for them to bombard her with questions about why she was drenched with water and make claims about their pretty manager and such.

"ichijou-chan why are you--" tanaka yelled out, rushing up to her and trying to speak before nishinoya interrupted him.

"ichijou-chan! why are you soaked? you must be freezing!" nishinoya went to grab his blazer and throw it over her shoulders, but tanaka beat him to it and threw his own over her shoulders instead.

"didn't i tell you two not to call me that? it's ichijou-san," she turned to look at them, taking off the blazer, then hinata's jacket, then her own blazer before putting hinata's jacket back on and handing tanaka his blazer back.

"yeah, i'm the only one who can call her ichi-chan!" hinata grinned and pointed at himself proudly while ichijou objected. suddenly, the bell rang and the group of four boys hurried up the stairs, all trying not to be late to class. as ichijou made her way to class four, she lost herself in her thoughts. it'd been a week since she was suddenly thrust into this new world. a week since she'd seen her family, friends, and her cat. she dearly missed them.

as she was walking to class, she stopped to peer out the window in the hallway, looking at the falling rain. she wondered how time was passing in her universe, had she been missing for a week? a day? mere minutes? she had no clue. for all she knew, her family could not even realize she was gone. all she knew was one morning she'd woken up in this new world, a new name, accent, and body assigned to her out of nowhere. luckily for her, the family of this body was gone on an extended trip, so she didn't have to handle trying to figure out peoples names and relationships to her.

on her first day at this school, which she only figured out was the school she was supposed to go to through her phone, she'd ran headfirst into hinata, and he immediately latched onto being her friend. it was a little less lonely to know some people in this world as herself and not as this ichijou person, but she didn't want to grow too close. after all, once she figured out how to get home, she'd be gone.

blinking away the thoughts, ichijou turned and made her way to the classroom she was assigned, settling her things into her desk and trying to keep her drips to a minimum while the class prepared to start. a soft sigh left her lips as she stared longingly out the window.

was it raining at home too?

A content smile sat upon Hanako's face as she strolled down the slick sidewalk, her white umbrella help tightly in her right hand. Luckily she watched the news every morning before leaving for school, or else she would surely be soaked by now! She had contemplated wearing her winter coat as well, and decided that would be for the best. That brings us to the present, a young pig-tailed student making her way to the front gate of Karasuno High.

Things hadn't always been this way though. Up until just a week ago, Hanako had been a 5'3" girl living in a low income house hold with her parents, younger brother, and her pets. Though it might seem terrible, she loved every minute with her family, and enjoyed working hard to get what she wanted. But that all changed. One day she had woken up to a strange woman's voice, calling a name she didn't recognize. It was all down hill from there. She was now Sayuri Hanako, a first year Japanese student at Karasuno High. She was the daughter of a public defender and a stay at home mother, and seemed to be much more well off than before. Luckily, Hanako seemed to be in the tennis club, much like herself. Now she lived a new life, hoping that one day she would return to her one. Until then, she would live the best life she could here.

The rain continued to pour down in sheets. Droplets ran down the sides of her purple polka-dot umbrella as she stepped through the gates, finally making it inside. Students crowded the doors, rushing to get into the warm and dry foyer of the school. Hanako could see a few were wet, probably oblivious to the weather man's warnings this morning; others stood outside the door- much like herself- wringing their umbrellas free of the rain before moving to change into their slippers. The gray hair girl sighed, finally able to strip her bulky coat off and warm her legs.
The female uniform at Kurasuno required the use of a skirt (much to Hanako's dismay), and as such her only barrier to the cold was a dark pair of stockings she wore every day.

Suddenly a rather loud and rambunctious voice broke through her thoughts. She turned to the left, spotting quite a few of the kids from the Volley ball club as well as one of their managers. There could be only one person who fit that voice... "Noya-kun?"

She gasped a bit as the boys ran by her quickly, chasing the first bell of the day. Hanako managed to grab Nishinoya's shirt before he could run off, catching Tanaka's attention in the process.

"Are you really just going to run off without saying hi, doofus?"

as soon as nishinoya yuu saw hinata, ichijou, and kageyama standing together, he nearly tripped over his own feet to get to them. he did trip over his own feet when he saw that the lovely assistant manager of the volleyball club was soaked with supposed rainwater. as soon as he was by her side, he started gushing over her needing to take care of herself and other things while she tried to tell them off. as much as he fawned over her, he was joking with all of it. figuratively, his heart belonged to kiyoko, the main manager of the karasuno mens volleyball club. she was just so pretty--

he was ripped from his thoughts when the bell rang and hinata and kageyama stiffened up. nearly in sync, the two yelled out how they couldn't be late and hurried towards the stairs, pulling ichijou with them, and subsequently pulling tanaka and him along, after all, they couldn't leave their beloved assistant manager alone could they?

while tanaka was hurrying towards the stairs, a sudden pull on noya's shirt yanked him back, a soft noise of surprise leaving him. he turned his head, eyebrows furrowed and ready to get angry and loud at whoever thought it was okay to yank on him like that. at least he was ready until he saw who it was.

"hana-chan!" he spun around fully, his unbuttoned gakuran blazer spinning out around him as he did so. "of course i wasn't, what kind of friend do you take me for?" he joked, pushing her gently. tanaka stopped when he had and also made his way over to hanako and nishinoya, waiting quietly but bouncing on his feet.

"noyaaa," tanaka stretched out the a sound, "c'mon, we're gonna be late!" noya waved him off before turning to walk with hanako. "bro! you can't be doing this to me right now,"

"if you hurry, you might catch up to ichijou-san!" nishinoya teased, sending tanaka bolting for the stairs while calling out for the group to wait up. noya let out a huge laugh as he watched, leaning over and laughing straight from the belly. "oh, god, he's so dumb sometimes," noya clapped his hands together, turning to look at hanako.

"so, hana-chan, how's your morning been with the rain and all? our assistant manager didn't have that great of a time, she got all soaked. forgot her umbrella and everything," noya then turned with a joking grin on his face, "course, if i was her boyfriend she'd never have to walk a day to school without me!" he puffed up his chest and gave a heroic grin before a quip from hanako deflated him and he sulked about her being mean.

the two made their way up the stairs to class 2-3, chatting all the while. the topic turned to school and nishinoya, shamed to say, starting tuning out what hanako was saying about the homework. he hadn't ever noticed her before they became friends in class, but she was really nice to him. she always helped him with homework and everything else. right as they entered the classroom, noya zoned back in.

"sorry, what were you saying?" he chuckled nervously.

"Could today possibly get any worse?"

Kei Tsukushi moved forward quickly, his signature scowl ever present. His hands were buried deep in his pockets, and he continued to grumble under his breath. "Come on Tsukki, it really isn't that bad! At least I remembered to grab an umbrella..." Yamaguchi hurried to keep up with his best friend, his left arm beginning to ache due to holding the umbrella high enough to cover the both of them. His hair hung flatter than usual, strings of brown framing his freckled face closely.

They walked in silence mostly, partially due to their hurried steps to make it out of the rain and into their high school. 'Perfect. Just perfect' Tsukishima fumed as they passed through the school gates, navigating around the mass of students. He had already woken up in a sour mood, which was not unlike him. He was late to start getting dressed and to top it all off he had forgotten to grab an umbrella in his stupor. He wouldn't say it aloud, but he was indeed grateful Yamaguchi had brought his. The only thing he had to deal with now were the annoying kids in their class.

Once the pair made it to their respective lockers, Tsukishima peeled his soaked shoes and socks off with a wet plop to the floor. A grimace crossed his pale features, "Ugh". The tall blond stuffed his wet socks and shoes into his locker and grabbed the socks he kept for practice to wear under his slippers. This would be a regret later in the day, but he had no time to dwell on the thought for long. This was when de decided to check over his appearance.

His short hair sat crazily atop his head, which matched his somewhat disheveled uniform. His blazer clung to his thin body, as did his pants. It wasn't the best, but it would do, with the exception of the blazer. It wasn't like he enjoyed wearing the suffocating coat anyways. "You want this extra shirt, Tsukki?" The shorter boy quipped, waving around a white button up as he approached the other. His clothes had faired better, no doubt from his smarter decisions. "No thank you."

"Come on, you might fe-"

"Ichijou-san!"

The pair turned, looking for the source of the obnoxious voice until they spotted the peanut gallery surrounding their new vice manager in training. She had only really been around for roughly a week, but the boys just flocked around her. Tsukishima found this to be rather annoying as he didn't understand the hype over this new girl, she was only a first year after all. He wasn't exactly sure she knew much about the sport, and assumed the team kept her around for her looks, though Yamaguchi got onto him for this often in private. Before he was able to make a crude comment, the bell rang, sending the pair rushing up the stairs only a moment after the group before them.

"Have you even met the new girl yet? You shouldn't base your view on her just from the attention she gets." Tsuki sighed, rolling his eyes as the pair approached their classroom. "She's just here for the attention; plain and simple. Come on, Yamaguchi, don't tell me you're falling for her too." He brought his arm up, elbowing his best friend in the side with a sly smirk plastered across his face. Of course he didn't like her; she was a stranger, making a place for herself in their club where she wasn't wanted. At least not by him. And speak of the devil, there she was, soaking into her chair. His smirk only grew, unable to hide his amusement for her situation. On the other hand, the brunette frowned, understanding what was about to transpire.

"Forget your umbrella, Ichi-chan? Did one of your little boyfriends not get to you soon enough?" The blond stood next to the purple haired girl, towering over her seat. His arms were crossed as she stared down at her, the same dumb smirk ever present.

ichijou was torn from her thoughts by someone's very obnoxious voice, calling her a name she didn't want to be called and saying things she didn't want to hear. when she turned her head from peering out the window to her left, she was basically eye level with someones thighs. her eyes slicked up the mystery person until she got to his face. before she could stop herself, she blurted out a few words.

"gross, it's tsukishima." she deadpanned, leaning her head on her hand and glaring up at the obnoxiously tall blonde. "don't you have other people to go be an asshole to? like yamaguchi?" ichijou sneered, turning up her nose at him, "besides, i'm not ichi-chan to you-- or anyone else for that matter-- and they are not my boyfriends. so kindly, leave me alone." her voice was sharp and clear, radiating annoyance quite obviously before she turned to look back out the window.

unlucky for her, the tall blonde was only a seat away from her, directly to her behind. she quickly learned that tsukishima's long legs might've been a good addition to the volleyball team, but in class it was nothing but another annoyance to her.

his longs legs were constantly bumping into her desk and chair legs, often jostling her out of her focus of school. even if she might not be in her own world, she felt it only fair to uphold the responsibilities of the body. one of those responsibilities being school. having this distraction made it harder for her to uphold that responsibility, which greatly irked her.

all of the interactions ichijou and tsukishima had up to this point had been negative in nature, when she introduced herself to the club and kiyoko and asked to be considered as an assistant manager in training, he just scoffed and mumbled something to yamaguchi. she'd never heard what he said, but she knew it was something against her. from that point forward, ichijou made it her point to avoid him as much as possible, wanting as little conflict as manageable. yet, tsukishima seemed to have a target dead set on her, and he was even more dead set on aiming directly at it.

the bell rang, the rest of the class took their seat, and class started. rain continued to pour, the gentle tapping against the glass soothing her as she worked. today, tsukishima hardly bumped her chair or anything, which she was eternally grateful. the minimal distraction and the help of the pattering of rain actually meant that she finished her work quicker than usual, leaving her with a bit of free time. she could use this freetime on homework, but she'd rather not. she was already doing too much work for school anyways, giving her brain a break didn't sound like too bad of an idea.

leaning back onto her fist, she gazed out the window, letting her mind wander. it immediately wandered to the volleyball club practice that would be today after school. she'd only become manager five days ago, and still had yet to fully understand her duties. as far as she knew, she was to provide the boys some sort of emotional support? at least the way the boys acted, that's what she figured they wanted from her. only nishinoya-san and tanaka-san fawned over her, but ichijou was on friendly terms with most of the team. most. today they'd be simply scrimmaging against each other and practicing plays as far as she knew. kiyoko had frequent meetings with the captain, daichi-san, and would report back to ichijou to have her help brainstorm an itinerary of the next week's practices. kiyoko also mentioned that if she boys were to have any scrimmages with other schools teams, it would be their responsibility to contact and arrange it.

as much as ichijou didn't like it, this was a big role she'd be stepping into. it almost felt unfair, she'd have to do all this work only to leave and have someone else here who probably didn't know a lick of what they had to do? it'd let the team down. hinata had asked so many times though, and made the very good point that she'd yet to join a club and not many other clubs were still accepting people to join. she'd reluctantly agreed to try, but didn't promise anything. when kiyoko informed her that she was accepted as the assistant manager in training, she was sure that hinata had pulled a few strings to get her there.

someone with no knowledge of volleyball whatsoever being the first pick assistant manager? that was just a stupid choice on kiyoko's part.

the bell for lunch rang and ichijou pulled away from the window, refocusing her eyes to the brighter classroom setting as people stood and moved around to get with their friends. ichijou had yet to make any friends, not wanting to get too close to anyone in particular. after all, she wasn't here to stay.

she reached inside her bag, digging around for her bento box that she'd packed her food in. she shuffled through the notebooks, workbooks, and folders, looking for the hard plastic feel of the box, and when she couldn't find it, she began to slightly panic. peering into her bag and once again moving everything around, she hissed out a cuss.

she'd forgotten her lunch.

"A terrible one, since OBVIOUSLY you weren't going to say anything until I grabbed you." The gray haired girl snickered, punching the shorter boy in the shoulder playfully. "You cannot fool thy wise one!" With this she laughed a bit louder, her hair bouncing with each one. While at home Sayuri had to act the perfect daughter, she enjoyed these small instances, especially with Noya.

Her attention was grabbed then by Tanaka as he complained about being late. She assumed this was more of his want for being around the boy's volley ball team's new manager, which was then confirmed with Noya's comment. Hanako covered her mouth as she watched Tanaka rush up the stairs, his furious foot steps fading into the distance. She had only ever seen the new manager a few times when she stopped by the gym after tennis practice, and she seemed pretty! But perhaps with a bit of an attitude? She wasn't exactly sure as this was only based on the few facial expressions she caught.

"Like you're any better Mr. 'I love Kiyoko sooooo much! She's gonna marry me one day!' " They continued to laugh as they walked slowly, putting off entering the classroom for as long as possible.

"Oh I loved it! I really enjoy the rain, so I had no troubles with it!" She put her hands on her hips as she boasted, along with an added hair flip for spice. Hanako wasn't sure what it was about this boy, but he somehow brought a part of herself out that she couldn't help but love. The same went for the rest of the boy's volley ball team. Sure, she loved the girl's tennis team, and she loved the drive an passion her fellow students had, but somehow Noya's team was just different. The feisty boy had told her many stories during their study sessions about the different members. She really enjoyed talking to the third years, but some of the first years had a special place in her heart as well. Hinata especially; there was a fire about him she had never seen before.

The fun was cut short suddenly when Noya commented on the new manager, and a slight annoyance arose within her stomach. "Ichijou-san wouldn't go for a little dork like you, Noya-kun. Don't you know girls prefer tall, dark, and handsome men?" It was a bit of a rude comment, sure; nothing out of the ordinary for her to say, but this time it was fueled by something from a dark place. Hanako wasn't sure why, but just the thought of the girl and Noya together just...didn't sit right. Hopefully it wasn't too obvious it upset her.

In order to change the subject, she began asking her friend about the last night's math assignment, as well as the English essay he had begged her to write for him in the exchange for boba. "I finished all of the assignment except for one, so I thought we could compare answers? Number 4 really had me stumped, especially with all of the- excuse me?" The girl stopped, a frown settling on her face as she glared at the boy. "Where you really tuning me again? You know I seriously hate that."

noya rubbed the back of his neck, eyes darting around as he tried to think up an excuse. "you know how i am with school, my brain hurts from thinking about all this work so often," he complained, pouting at hanako. "you can't be mad at this cute face, can you?" at her reply, he clutched his heart and staggered on his feet, claiming her words had shot him. he slowly made his way to his seat, setting down his bag and then scurrying towards hanako's seat and sliding into the one beside her.

"now, what were you saying before i zoned out? something about school?" while she repeated herself, nishinoya could feel himself slipping back into his thoughts, this time floating into a stream of consciousness.

did i do the homework? surely i did, i wouldn't have forgotten about it. not after hana-chan reminded me so many times.

noya's eyes drifted up to hanako's face admiring her as she pulled out the work and starting going over it. his eyes drifted carefully across her face, simply taking in her features and noticing details he hadn't before. hanako was really pretty, her hair was a very noticeable shade of grey and it just suited her so well. the bell ringing for the start of the day pulled him out of his thoughts and sent him to his seat, where he then continued his thoughts.

hanako's jab at his height was pretty normal within her bounds, but saying girls wanted a tall, dark, and handsome man made noya think. was that hanako's type? did she like tall, dark, and handsome men like she'd said? noya shrugged the thoughts off, why did it even matter to him? it's not like he was going to date her anyways.

the rest of class was unsurprisingly uneventful. noya did his work, zoned out, did more work, and zoned back out. typical behavior from him. at the lunch bell, he sprung from his seat and scurried back over to hanako's seat.

"c'mon, i told tanaka i'd eat lunch with him, and he told hinata and kageyama that he'd eat lunch with them. so now we're eating with some volleyball boys," noya rambled, not really paying attention to the words he was saying as he stood by her desk. "i need to go to the vending machines and get something to drink too, so hurry up!" he poked and prodded at the girls arm, trying to hurry her.

once she was up and walking with him, the two went towards the vending machines first. noya got his drink, a soda, and then dragged hanako towards the place they all usually ate at. "i can't wait for you to meet everyone on the team properly and actually see us in a game, we're gonna look so cool!" noya continued to chatter, finally reaching the spot. it was under a canopy outside, the rain having slightly let up but the air still misty from it.

"alright, let's eat!"

The triumph of what he thought was a good poke at her ego was soon deflated, though he wouldn't show that to this girl. The corners of his mouth twitched slightly, but never strayed far from the smirk. Did she really think that was a good comeback? He was sure she had used it before, either with to himself or to Kageyama. His frown fell further at her mention of Yamaguchi. How dare she have the audacity to even suggest such a thing, let alone say his name with such malice. He shifted before speaking once more.

"Glad to see you woke up with butterflies and roses, crude words don't suit a club manager very well, especially a girl." He chuckled before patting her head, just to add that much more to his jest. Before she could reply, he took the opportunity to situate himself in his desk, moving to hang his book bag on the left edge of his chair. He would ignore the rest of Ichijou's words, though they would stay on his mind as he gathered the materials needed for the current class. Who did she think she was?

As he sat throughout the class, he would switch from checking texts on his phone from Yamaguchi to tapping his feet. This was a nervous habit he had picked up years before, like most others; especially with how long his legs were. It was unusual for someone his stature to exist (at least in Japan), and he found himself suffering the consequences of being born this way in class. He would usually stretch his legs out in order to gain as much room as possible. One day he noticed he could reach miss managers desk, and he would take full advantage of this. A tap or two here, a kick there; the possibilities were endless. Now he could expand nervous energy while pushing her buttons; a sure win.

Some time later, the bell for lunch rang, bringing Tsukishima out of his work. A content sigh escaped his lips, relived to be free for the time being. The blond packed his things slowly, waiting for his friend to finish getting his things together so they could leave at the same time. It didn't take him long, and soon he was on his feet, busying himself fixing his white button up. In the corner of his eye he noticed movement; it was Ichijou, digging around furiously in her bag with a rather pissed looking face. Her curse moments later only confirmed what his assumption was: she had forgotten her lunch today.

Yamaguchi approached not a moment after, peering beside Tsukishima at Ichijou. "Did you forget your lunch, Ichijou-san?" His question was innocent in intention, causing a glare from the taller boy. He couldn't help his best friend was much nicer than he was, but one would think a best friend would at least hold the same feelings of dislike for the girl.

"You can come eat lunch with us today if you want? I brought a bento box, but I was thinking I would buy something instead anyways..." The brunette's voice trailed off as he finally felt the cold stare of the blond. A mistake had been made. Unfortunately, there was nothing Tsukishima could do to change the offer, instead choosing to simply start walking towards the exit of the room, albeit slowly.

ichijou looked up at yamaguchi, slowly nodding her head when he asked if she'd forgotten her lunch. the poor girl didn't know where the body had kept money, so she'd been attempting to make food everyday. it was a struggle, but at least she was learning something, right?

"you'd really let me eat with you?" ichijou asked in a soft voice, confusion spreading on her face, "and you'd give me your food? i've only known you for a week, yamaguchi-san, you don't have to,"

yamaguchi shook his head, a bright smile crossing his face as he looked down at her. "i want you to take it! it's fine, i'm just going to buy something and waste it anyways," he rubbed the back of his neck, bento box in one hand and outreached to her. "or i could buy you something, either way doesn't matter to me. i just wouldn't want to see anyone on the team go hungry,"

the look of confusion switched to suspicion for a split second. did tsukishima put him up to something? he was walking away slowly, still within hearing distance of the conversation they were having, however yamaguchi-san didn't seem like the kind of person to do such a thing like that, so she supposed she'd trust it. after the suspicion passed, albeit reluctantly, she nodded yes, standing and gathering her things.

"thank you, yamaguchi-san," she turned to look up at him, "i appreciate it. now, where are we eating?"

yamaguchi led the new manager after tsukishima, hurrying to catch up to him. he stood between the blonde and the still slightly damp girl, talking to ichijou about practice today.

"you don't think it'll be cancelled because of the weather, do you?" ichijou looked up at yamaguchi, shaking her head no in response to his question.

"surely not! it's just rain, right? what harm will a little rain do to the team?" she assured him, waving off his concern with a flourish of her hand. she then peered across his chest to look at tsukishima, "what about you, tsukishima-san, do you think practice will be cancelled?" her tone had a slight bite to it, but since she'd be eating lunch with him she figured that it'd be best to be as polite as possible, however he didn't seem to have the same idea as a tense silence settled over the three after his reply.

"a-anyways, ichijou! in the bento is just some rice, a salad, pork tonkatsu, and some umeboshi! i hope you enjoy it," yamaguchi smiled at her, handing over the lunch before looking up at the cafeteria doors. "tsukki, can you show her where we usually sit? i'll be over in just a minute!" before 'tsukki' could object, yamaguchi hurried off.

ichijou stifled her laughter, "tsukki? is that your nickname? how childish, but i guess it suits someone like you," she bit at him, a smile making its way onto her face.
