War never changes. Not even once it has blighted the world.
War, whether it is waged on the shores of a faraway nation, rained from the skies over an empire, or in the streets of a once-prosperous homeland, is by nature a self-destructive entity. It exists, as long as there are two people on this earth with red blood, and paradoxically, attempts to reach that point of our mass extinction with every appearance it makes.
In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, not a night of slumber goes uninterrupted by the popping of gunshots in the distance. Between the raiders, mutants, and all the other savages, another survived day under the belt of a settler is nothing short of a miracle. This place needs a hero or two, and thankfully, the man on the job knows the value of a do-gooder better than anyone else.
Kent Connolly. A man stuck in the past.
One fateful night, five years ago, the man in blue strolled into his little room in the memory den and agreed to make his greatest dream come true. With an old costume and a silver-painted tommy gun, Kent brought his old-world radio serial hero, the Silver Shroud, to life. The streets of Goodneighbor got cleaner, Kent had a taste of danger, and then it was all over. His knight in the blue onesie flashed Kent one last smile on his way out of Goodneighbor, and disappeared with the gear as a momento of their time together. The timid ghoul couldn't have imagined what Nate would go on to accomplish.
Through the grapevine, he eventually beard Nate was making a name for himself as the General of the Minutemen, bringing his own brand of righteous justice to the savage wastes. Dingy patches of the Commonwealth got turned into mighty, defensible settlements big enough to rival Diamond City, united under the same baby blue flag.
And then, Nate disappeared.
Nuka-World, now that the Institute was gone, was the obvious culprit. But nobody dared follow the trail to the raider's paradise. For months, nobody heard anything from the General. Nobody, but Kent. Some time after leaving, a pair of caravanners dropped off a trunk at the Memory Den's doorstep, addressed to Kent. Inside, the Silver Shroud costume, along with a bundle of others collected in the legend's travels. And the cherry on top? A note.
"Been a while, little buddy. Know I haven't been home in a while, but that's changing pretty soon. And when that happens, you're gonna hear a lot of nasty things about your old friend, the Shroud. They'll all be true. Been thinking about my place in life a lot these days, and inevitably, I got to thinking about you. You saw me at my best. As a hero, coming to your aid. But I'm done being a hero. It's time I get something more out of the Common than cheap-ass admiration. Back to you. You may not be a man of action, but if you could get me to pick up the fight and do some good, you could talk anyone into it. So consider this a bribe. Play dress-up, hold on to your memories, but just stay out of my way. Or I'll put you in the ground."
When Nate did come back, he was flying a few new flags. Not just a raider, but the king of them all. Settlements became outposts and slave compounds, the Minutemen perished under the betrayal of their leader, and Kent was left with a sinking feeling of responsibility. The costumes collecting dust in the corner were brimming with potential, but time had only weakened him further. There was no chance of him taking the fight to his old friend now, but like Nate said...
He could talk someone else into doing it for him.
Explanation:
This RP is being set in Fallout 4's setting, sorta like an Avengers deal, but loosely-modeled after the Unstoppables from the in-game comics. After the Sole Survivor returned to the Commonwealth as Overboss and began wreaking havoc over the wastes they themselves tamed, mild-mannered ghoul Kent Connolly began looking for candidates to fill the costumes gifted to him to create a sst of real-life superheroes.
Let me know if any of you are interested! (FYI, I'm considering not letting anyone pick their alter egos, but I'm not certain yet~)
