ARMSMEN
IC||CHARACTERS || OOC
Long ago,
Humans lived in fear of dragons.
For thousands of years,
We existed as slaves,
Victims...
Livestock.
Time and time again,
We rose up and fought back,
And time and time again,
We were defeated.
Until one day...
A miracle.
Through skill at arms and fierce combat,
A hero plunged his blade into the heart of a dragon,
Taking its life and power.
And so began a turning of the tide.
So began...
Our great vengeance.
Now there are no more dragons left in the world,
But nothing has changed,
For the descendants of the Hero have taken their place
And we continue to suffer...
By our own hands.
As kings and rulers,
The blood of the dragon lives on
And we are their hounds.
We the Armsmen,
Hunters of our own kind.

In this roleplay, you will begin as an Armsman candidate arriving at the royal palace where you will be personally reviewed by the king for selection. If successful, you will be granted a small fragment of the king's ancestral power and with it you will gain strength equal to a hundred men, as well as arms and armour of the finest make. In return however, you are sworn to obey your king's every command, to never hold any lands or titles, or to beget any children. Breaking any of these three vows will result in your death, either at the hands of your king or fellow Armsmen.
This will be a humans only medieval fantasy roleplay and in terms of magic, you will be able to enhance your body far beyond its natural limits as an Armsman and achieve extraordinary feats such as super strength, speed, resilience, agility and accelerated regeneration. This is known as the 'Hero's magic' and you will possess all of these abilities as an Armsman. However, only the king and other descendants of the Hero have the ability to command fire in addition to the Hero's magic at a much higher level, making them essentially demigods in the setting of the world.
Despite the name, Armsmen may be of any gender so long as they prove worthy of the power bestowed upon them, but from that point on they will be known as an Armsman no matter who or what they were before in the past. Neither man, woman or even human anymore, an Armsman is a living weapon granted power by their ruler to serve their ruler. To be clear, no one chooses to be an Armsman candidate. They are only ever chosen themselves and to refuse is to risk death, depending on the whims of their ruler.
At the present moment, there are two descendants of the Hero in conflict with each other. On the one hand there is King Hadain, ruler of Liotra and widely regarded as a fair and just man, but a staunch traditionalist. His kingdom is prosperous, but those born into serfdom are forever bound to live as serfs and their only hope of escape is either a knighthood on the battlefield or marriage to anyone who is not a serf. As a result banditry and peasant revolts are frequent, and Armsmen are often called upon to put them down.
On the other hand is his nephew Prince Athis, a brilliant but cruel and sadistic tyrant who murdered his own father to claim the throne of Yorta. To avenge his brother - the late King Balir - and set to right the line of succession, Hadain seeks to remove Athis and replace him with his older sister, Sofia, but through a number of swift reforms and a thorough purge of the court, Athis has consolidated his position as well as endearing himself to the populace by reducing all taxes for the year and improving serf rights. Few have reason to complain and any who dares are swiftly silenced by the Armsmen sent to their door.
So with that said and if you're interested, I'll open a poll. Who would you choose to be Armsman to...
