ARMSMEN

IC||CHARACTERS || OOC

Long ago,

Humans lived in fear of dragons.

For thousands of years,

We existed as slaves,

Victims...

Livestock.

Time and time again,

We rose up and fought back,

And time and time again,

We were defeated.

Until one day...

monsters_dreamscene_by_droot1986_d8gjd58-pre.jpg

A miracle.

Through skill at arms and fierce combat,

A hero plunged his blade into the heart of a dragon,

Taking its life and power.

And so began a turning of the tide.

So began...

Our great vengeance.

Now there are no more dragons left in the world,

But nothing has changed,

For the descendants of the Hero have taken their place

And we continue to suffer...

By our own hands.

As kings and rulers,

The blood of the dragon lives on

And we are their hounds.

We the Armsmen,

Hunters of our own kind.

In this roleplay, you will begin as an Armsman candidate arriving at the royal palace where you will be personally reviewed by the king for selection. If successful, you will be granted a small fragment of the king's ancestral power and with it you will gain strength equal to a hundred men, as well as arms and armour of the finest make. In return however, you are sworn to obey your king's every command, to never hold any lands or titles, or to beget any children. Breaking any of these three vows will result in your death, either at the hands of your king or fellow Armsmen.

This will be a humans only medieval fantasy roleplay and in terms of magic, you will be able to enhance your body far beyond its natural limits as an Armsman and achieve extraordinary feats such as super strength, speed, resilience, agility and accelerated regeneration. This is known as the 'Hero's magic' and you will possess all of these abilities as an Armsman. However, only the king and other descendants of the Hero have the ability to command fire in addition to the Hero's magic at a much higher level, making them essentially demigods in the setting of the world.

A king's power.

Despite the name, Armsmen may be of any gender so long as they prove worthy of the power bestowed upon them, but from that point on they will be known as an Armsman no matter who or what they were before in the past. Neither man, woman or even human anymore, an Armsman is a living weapon granted power by their ruler to serve their ruler. To be clear, no one chooses to be an Armsman candidate. They are only ever chosen themselves and to refuse is to risk death, depending on the whims of their ruler.

At the present moment, there are two descendants of the Hero in conflict with each other. On the one hand there is King Hadain, ruler of Liotra and widely regarded as a fair and just man, but a staunch traditionalist. His kingdom is prosperous, but those born into serfdom are forever bound to live as serfs and their only hope of escape is either a knighthood on the battlefield or marriage to anyone who is not a serf. As a result banditry and peasant revolts are frequent, and Armsmen are often called upon to put them down.

On the other hand is his nephew Prince Athis, a brilliant but cruel and sadistic tyrant who murdered his own father to claim the throne of Yorta. To avenge his brother - the late King Balir - and set to right the line of succession, Hadain seeks to remove Athis and replace him with his older sister, Sofia, but through a number of swift reforms and a thorough purge of the court, Athis has consolidated his position as well as endearing himself to the populace by reducing all taxes for the year and improving serf rights. Few have reason to complain and any who dares are swiftly silenced by the Armsmen sent to their door.

So with that said and if you're interested, I'll open a poll. Who would you choose to be Armsman to...

King Hadain or Prince Athis?

(insert crowd cheering noises here)

So the real special things here will be in how they focus those enhanced physical abilities

Armsmen may prefer to focus on certain abilities over others, true, but I'm hoping the real meat of the roleplay will be in how people's characters deal with simply being an Armsman in the first place.

Will they consider it an honour or not worth the freedoms they are forced to sacrifice? How will they get along with their fellow Armsmen? Will they be proud to serve or grow to hate their ruler? And will they be cruel or be kind? Those sorts of things.

So just to let everyone know, the results of the poll will determine how the roleplay begins, so please don't forget to cast your vote if you haven't already. The poll closes on the 5th of July.

Hey I am interested in this here ordeal.

For the King. Long live his grace and his Armsmen, for they are the salvation of the Kingdom.

Long live his majesty, may the people kneel before his awesome might.

Enkerzed Enkerzed I'm wondering if there's a loophole where candidates who are married or have already had a child/children may have that aspect overlooked if they pledge to estrange themselves from family.

I haven't done a medieval fantasy in a while so I'll express my interest.

Guy like Athis, he'd be all too willing to choose people like that. Hostages, you see.

Yes and yes, the more the merrier.

Also, today's the last day before the poll closes so to anyone who hasn't already, get your votes in while you still can. The results will decide how the roleplay will begin.

For the king!

The man with the bling!

Such a cause ain't no small thing!

But the prince is in the lead!

So tumultuous a scene indeed!

Looks like Athis is the winner, so with that the poll is now over and we can begin with the character submissions. Here's the thread for it: Fantasy - Armsmen (Characters)

Some info before you begin, as a result of the poll the roleplay will be beginning in the kingdom of Yorta with Athis as the ruler. It's been two months since he's taken the throne by force and he's sent men to scour the land for potential Armsmen. As candidates, your characters would have been selected based on age, fitness and talent for violence, and while they may possess these qualities to varying degrees, there's one thing they all have in common: the fact that they're commoners. Even criminals are allowed, provided they chose to be captured alive rather than dead.

Also, please remember that this will be a humans only roleplay, so no other races. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, in the OOC thread or just shoot me a pm.

So just to let everyone know, I'll be starting the roleplay when a few other characters have been approved, say about 3 at the very least. Of course, it will still be open even after the roleplay begins, so take your time making your character and if you need any help, just shoot me a pm and we can hash it out together.

Looks like we got 3 approved characters now, so as promised the roleplay will now officially begin... After I get some sleep. Sorry folks, it's been a long day. I'll try not to snooze for too long.

And so it begins.
