Pierce at least had the decency to act shocked. He was probably a rich boy, if he really did live somewhere that big. Manami wished she could stop thinking about the sorts of debauchery that often payed for that sort of thing, but that sort of innocence was a luxury she couldn’t afford. The kid was still way too enthusiastic about allegedly inviting a bunch of randoms over to his house. When he cut himself off while trying to explain about outsiders, Manami squinted at him more while Hotaru glanced around as well, partly wanting to ask him to continue, but instead just leaving it be.

While Odessa seemed content to take her chances, asking some more very helpful questions, Manami and Hotaru, but mostly Manami, still weren’t convinced. Manami and Odessa could probably fight off a thug or two, but Hotaru couldn’t; even with her Persona, Hotaru was lousy in a fight, and they weren’t talking about barely competent Shadows here; traffickers knew their way around, the successful ones anyway.

“Pierce-kun, are you sure this is okay?” Hotaru suddenly spoke up again, in that soft voice of hers, “Shouldn’t you ask your dad before you bring anyone home?” Bringing home guests was one thing, but people you barely knew and just met at the station was a completely different matter.

“Yeah, that’s a good point,” Manami said, grateful to be able to stall for more time and hopeful that the kid might slip up with his true intentions if they kept him talking, “It’d be really hard on your staff if they suddenly had to get a room or two ready for guests, on top of their other work.”

The paralysis landed! Giffany's sparking cheeks were starting to ache from how wide she was grinning. "See? I may not have been programmed for this, but old programs can learn new tricks!"

And it was time to pull her favorite one.

She skipped away from Shujinko's character, turned on her heel, then pawed at the ground. Her body bunched up, producing a shrill hum as the stripes of lightning across her body got fatter and fatter with every time they flickered back into existence. It wasn't long before she had a bright cyan shell enveloping her body. "Yooooooooo..." She started to skip back towards Shujinko.

"....kooooooooo..." Skips turned to gallops. The concentrated electricity slowly began to turn wild.

"...Haaaaaaaaaaaa..." She began to pull electricity off her body, forming a great ball high above her head.

"...MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA..." She giggled, breathing intensely. "Sorry to do this to you, Shujinko, but I've been taught to give it my all!"

"...THUUUUNNNNNNDERBOOOOOOLLLLT!" She threw the electricity ball at Shujinko's character, then leaped right along with it. With power surging through her veins, she dashed all around the opposing fighter, giving him charged smacks wherever she wanted. It was a dizzying display of pink and cyan, the camera swerving every which way, trying to take it all in. Could Giffany's opponent possibly escape from this barrage?

"About this world, huh?" Pierce ponders for a moment. "You know... history isn't exactly my strong suit, but if you'd like I can show you to the library later which would probably be a much better help than I ever could be. Now if you wanna know some stuff about computers and robotics though, I'm your guy." Pierce finally says in reply.

Pierce then turns to Manami at her and Hotaru's question, oblivious to their stalling.

"Staff?" he responds with a confused look upon his face. "Oh! you must mean the housekeeping robots. They can't exactly be annoyed by something like this. That's just not how they're programmed, I should know, I did some tweaking of their code myself not too long ago." he says proudly.

"But you're right, I should go and text my dad ahead of time, lemme just do that right now" Pierce says before pulling out something that looks just like an empty cellphone case, but with the press of a button lights up with a holographic display that Pierce fiddles with for a second before the phone vibrates indicating a reply and Pierce looks back up at the group of rift travellers.

"looks like I got the go-ahead" he says. "And perfect timing. Here we are, this is the right train. If you still want to come with me I'll pay so we can get into the more comfortable seating. It's a bit of a ride to the border still so it's worth it." Pierce tells you, before swiping a card through an automated card reader which opens up the doors to the train.

Train to the Eternal Summer - Hahli Nuva Hahli Nuva (Sub Zero) Jezza Jezza (Noveran)

Noveran could see his attempts at persuasion weren't getting anywhere quickly. Rather than pointlessly continuing to try what he had already failed, he would find another way. Knowing where Sub Zero was going at the moment, and trusting that the Ice Queen would likely show up causing a scene somewhere else, Noveran felt no need to pursue the Lin Kuei Grandmaster for now.

As Sub Zero rode the train, his surroundings got noticeably warmer the closer to his destination he got, going from the slightly brisk temperature of the hanger and metro station to what felt like a particularly balmy day in the middle of summer.

eternalsummer_lowres.jpg

Eventually the train finally emerged into the Eternal summer and the gradually dimming artificial lights that Sub Zero had seen down below was replaced by the sight of a massive sun directly overhead. From where he stood, the only thing standing between Sub Zero and the vast expanse of space was a thick layer of bluish glass about 100 meters above that covered the sky as far as he could see. Looking back down at the ground was a similarly extreme scene. Aside from the tunnel Sub Zero's train emerged from, a few buildings scattered far off in the distance and the large buiding the train was pulling into, the ground was nothing but green farmland, with thousands of workers labouring in the fields and a guard armed to the teeth for every dozen workers.

Once in the station Sub Zero could see more platforms with trains leading to other sections of the eternal summer, a small kiosk with coffee and less than appetising looking food, a desk with a receptionist behind bulletproof glass, and a stairwell with signs indicating the sheriffs' offices were on the floor above.

Lilliane Odessa del’Ortollio

Well, that question got her nowhere, but she did learn one thing - apparently this plane was futuristic which suited her just fine. She asked no further questions as she followed Pierce through to the train but she did turn around at the two others - who were clearly hesitant - and say......

”Come on. It's not like we have anywhere else to go!” Her demeanor was still friendly though there was a slight stiffness in her tone which may indicate that she too harbored some sense of precaution.

The Grandmaster walked off of the chilled train, getting a cabin all to himself due to his icy temperature. Even when standing completely still he exuded an intimidating, commanding aura.

Kuai looked up at the blue glass meant to simulate a sky, as well as the guards and field workers. So far he didn’t see anything out of order, so for now he simply walked down the path, a chilling aura following with each footstep as the very ground froze beneath his feet.

As he entered the building, he quickly caught vision of the proper signs and passed by the clerk and refreshments, looking up at the stairwell.

Closing his eyes to concentrate, Sub Zero suddenly froze himself solid and literally sank through the floor, reappearing at the proper office in less than a second. He opened the door and stepped inside, freezing aura following him.

“Greetings. It seems you need assistance with hunting a criminal.” Sub Zero said.

With the arrival of the train, it would seem that they were out of time. The other woman, clearly cautious, had decided to follow after Pierce, and called behind her to get the two of them to follow as well. Manami and Hotaru had run out of reasonable objections. At least with Odessa they had a potential ally, but it seemed like she’d arrived here differently than they had, and she seemed used to travelling around like this. Manami was still dead certain that this could only end badly, but no matter how much she dug in her heels, her other options never seemed to get any better.

Hotaru gave her a tired ‘what else are we supposed to do?’ half smile. It was dangerous to trust these people, sure, but wandering around an unknown world by themselves was just asking for more trouble. She still had to half drag Manami along with her, as she joined Pierce and Odessa boarding the train.

Pleased to see the others finally come around Pierce steps aboard the train and takes a seat. The cabin of the train that he gets on is completely empty of passengers aside from Pierce himself, and is quite luxurious looking, almost like if it were the inside of a limousine. The cab had several faux-leather reclining seats, fake windows showing the image of an exotic beach, and a small mini-fridge installed into the sides of the seats. The mini-fridges are fully stocked with a variety of drinks both alcoholic and not, and come with a menu with touch buttons indicating several available foods including caviar, fugu sashimi, prime rib steak, risotto, pizza, and of course cake. Pierce watches your group take your seats and grabs a drink of iced-tea for himself.

"It's a long ride, so if you haven't had anything to eat yet you should take advantage of the onboard food services. It's all totally complimentary, just press the button for whatever you want." Pierce says to the three of you. "While we're here, I wanna know what it's like back where you guys come from. Do you mind if we kill time talking about your home planets?" It's clear Pierce has a genuine interest in trying to learn more about the outsiders he's found. "What planets are you from? What's their climate like? What kind of technology do you have? Oh, oh! do you guys have like magic and stuff?" In the train and away from the crowded platform, Pierce is suddenly far less suspicious of his surroundings and reverts back to the attitude of an excitable teenager now that he doesn't have to worry about the wrong people overhearing.

Once you get comfortable the doors close. You can feel the train jerk for a moment as it starts moving but after the inertial dampers kick in it feels as if you were standing completely still.

Eternal Summer, Sheriffs’ offices - Hahli Nuva Hahli Nuva (Sub Zero)

Sub-Zero's unorthodox entrance wasn't exactly received well. When Sub-Zero appeared he found himself immediately surrounded by men aiming high-tech shotguns at him watching for any potentially hostile movements until one of the men finally tells the others to stand down.

"Do you mind telling us what in the blasted hell is a stranger like you doing barging into this office unannounced?!" a brawny man in uniform shouts at Sub-Zero. "Damn cocking dumbass. If you're here for a posted bounty we've got a damn receptionist downstairs for a reason. He continues before sighing and telling you to follow him to his desk. But before you can get to his desk, another slightly younger man in the same uniform comes up to you two.

"If it's alright with you Sheriff Okenfel, I can handle this one." the new officer says.

"Fine, Kenneth. less work on my plate then" Sheriff Okenfel says before walking back off to his desk again.

"Hey, sorry about the old timer. He's grumpy all the time, it's not cus of you being so strange. Anyway, I'm Sheriff Kenneth Smith. Come with me to my desk and let me know what brought you here." Kenneth tells Sub-Zero, though Kenneth's eyes dart between looking at Sub-Zero's face and his hands. "I'm here to help."

Kuai ignored the old man’s rambling as well as the armed guards. He could easily dismantle the entire room, but then he remembered why he had come in the first place.

Unlike Earthrealm and Outworld, he couldn’t just appear wherever he wished, nor did the Lin Kuei’s legendary and respected status as deadly assassins apply here. This was an entirely different universe.

He would conduct more research at a later date.

As the younger man appeared, Kuai noticed how he tried to diffuse the situation, as well as ask him some easy questions to put him at ease. Solid police work. Kuai did as the man asked and walked over to his desk.

“My name is Kuai Liang. But most refer to me as Sub Zero. I am not from this realm. Nor do I know how I arrived. My apologies for startling you before.”

LOCATION: ASHI; VERY FANCY TRAIN

The two of them stopped immediately upon entering the train cabin. The whole thing looked like the first class section of an airplane, or what the two of them assumed First Class looked like, neither of them having ever been on a plane to begin with. With the supreme fanciness of the cabin, the two of them couldn’t have looked or felt more out of place.

The portal had seemed to swallow them and spit them out again in a matter of minutes, but it was impossible for anyone to know how long they’d really been trapped for. And from that, it was impossible to know the last time they’d eaten, only that as their wavering nerves receded, it left a cloying hunger.

The two of them scrolled through the menu, whispering between themselves.

“Caviar is like roe but for rich people, right?”

“I think so; it’s what they eat in foreign movies.”

“The hell’s ‘risotto’?”

“It says that it’s some sort of rice dish, like a soup or something.”

“How much do you think 16 ounces is in grams? Is it a lot?”

“If it is, we could split it. Have you ever had steak, Manami-san?”

Manami gave her a blank look.

“I’ve barely even had beef before.”

They decided to try it, and then picked out drinks for themselves: Hotaru a cherry soda without caffeine, and Manami a can of sweetened coffee.

While they waited on their meal, Manami and Hotaru took glances at each other and Odessa before considering Pierce’s questions. As endearing as his enthusiasm was, and as clear as it was becoming that he might not actually be as suspicious as he had seemed, there was still an air of unease that fell off the two girls. They were so clearly out of their element. Hotaru fidgeted for a moment, before Manami sighed and nudged her into speaking.

“Well,” Hotaru said, capping the bottle of her drink. She avoided looking right at Pierce, “Manami and I, oh! Right, right, I’m Hotaru, and this is Manami,” she pointed to herself and to Manami in turn.

“It looks like we’ll be in your care for now,” Manami interjected, “but we’ll try to stay out of your way, so don’t mind us.”

“A-anyway, we’re from Earth. The climate…,” she paused to think, “well, it’s different everywhere you go of course, but back home it tends to be pretty humid. Technology...” she looked back to Manami, “It’s hard to describe when it always just there, isn’t it?”

“We don’t have robot maids,” Manami said, to many, many people’s utter disappointment.

“Yeah, the closest things we have to that is those little vacuums that beep at you.”

At the question of magic, they both clammed up again. If magic was such a novelty in this place, it would probably be really shocking for him to see. Although it seemed to show that it might not be inherently dangerous to use their abilities here, one person their own age’s reaction couldn’t be counted as indicative of the world’s.

"It's nice to meet you Mr. Liang. Yes, we're familiar with the rifts, our planet's had a bit of a history with them as if there wasn't already enough trouble here. Don't worry about it though. Now, you said you wanted to assist with a criminal investigation, am I correct? Do you mind showing me the bounty poster that brought you here?" Kenneth asks while opening up several files on a monitor in front of him.

"Most wanted right now seems to be whoever is behind the illegitimate passports that keep popping up during border stoppings. The forgery on them is impeccable, the pages are even chemically treated to the exact same as the government standards, so whoever is doing this definitely isn't some back street nobody. We've only been able to spot the fakes after a recent computer attack caused us to revise our security measures and afterwards our database started showing a lot of invalid entries stating that the passport holders didn't exist." The sheriff says as he starts explaining the case to you. "I suppose them not existing isn't too far from the true now..." he whispers to himself morosely.

"So if that's what you want to help with just let me know and I'll get started on the pre-requisite paperwork. And of course if you have any leads to go off of already, now is when you'd share them, but seeing as you're clearly pretty new here I'm assuming that's not the case. Oh, and if there's anything else you want some assistance with, let me know and I'll be happy to help." Kenneth sits back in his chair as he waits for your reply, his finger tapping his desk rhythmically as he keeps his eyes fixed on his monitor.

With Pierce Jackson - Veradana Veradana (Hotaru, Manami) PolikShadowbliss PolikShadowbliss (Odessa)

Not even a minute after the girls pressed the button on the menu, the centre of the table in the cabin opens up and a plate with a large hunk of steak, already cooked and warm, is brought onto the table through an automated system. It even came complete with mashed potatoes, gravy and a side salad.

Pierce listened intently to the answers as the train travelled at high speed towards the border. He doesn't interrupt much, as he's keen on just listening to what your group has to say and as you finished the food you ordered the train finally pulls into the stop. The doors open and Pierce exits the train and starts making his way towards the border checkpoint before an armed guard comes up to him.

"ID and reason for travelling?" the guard asks.

"Pierce Jackson, and I-" Pierce answers before getting cut off.

"Ah, Pierce, your father already called and told us you were coming back with guests. Your sister is waiting for you on the other side of the checkpoint. Don't worry about your guests, they already have clearance. Have a good night." the guard says waving Pierce through. "Welcome to New Atlantis, stay out of trouble."

Your group is able to walk straight past the small army of armed guards at the border checkpoint, surprisingly without any more interruptions and just like the guard said, once the group got through the border checkpoint there was a woman waiting there with a similar appearance to Pierce, though she appeared to be a few years older, about college age. She smiled warmly as the group approached but was notably less chatty than her brother.

She led the group out to a vehicle saying it's not far to Belon from here, though the vehicle seems more like a hover car than anything else. Getting inside there was conveniently enough room for six people easily, and the seats were equally comfy, if not more so to what was in the train. The door sealed and the engine whirred to life, seeming to defy gravity as it lifted off the ground. Much to your surprise the craft, being driven by Pierce's sister, turned and started travelling almost straight up into what seemed like a giant vertical tunnel. The walls seemed like they were several kilometres apart and when you looked out you could see black futuristic trams climbing vertical to the walls.

The craft turned into a somewhat smaller tunnel and started to travel back down again into a massive dome, with thousands of same looking futuristic buildings in view, almost like the buildings had been copy pasted. Outside the dome was completely black, no stars, no sky, just an impenetrable blackness that seemed to go on forever, though the dome was also lined with the same artificial lights from before, now dimmed to an orangish colour, as if to emulate a sunset. The craft pulls up to and finally parks by one of the buildings and once up close you can see it's truly pretty big. Four stories tall and about 8 times as wide and long as a normal house, but still it looked the same as the houses around it.

Pierce and his sister walk up to the front door and invite your group inside the high tech mansion.

Lilliane Odessa del'Ortollio

Odessa eyed the train and then slumped onto a cozy couch. "Nice place!" She smiled but didn't say anything more than that, no backstory, nothing, she just lounged about, eating whatever came f from the menu. It would seem she is used to luxury like this, and was visibly relaxing. Odessa was till suscpous though but had since concluded that the boy alone was harmless. Besides she could easily subdue him if he so much as raised a finger against her, so there was no worries.
The train ride itself seemed to pass tremdously quickly, perhaps too quickly for her liking, for they were out and away for what seemed like seconds. She said nothing as the guards let them pass and they met Pierce's older sister, who didn't seem talkative anyway. It was only after she walked into the large house that she finally spoke.

"Hey, I couldn't help but notice on the way here but what's with your sky? Or rather lack of a sky, I should say. There's nothing but void!"

When the attack was over, it was perfectly clear just how much of her stored energy Giffany had used. Her edges blackened, and her body sizzling and popping, she balanced ungracefully on one foot. "H-how are you still conscious?" She asked drunkenly, laughing as the hadoukens flew towards her. "Y-you want the match, buddy? You can h-have the match. Okay, I'm gonna nap now."

One, two, three. The hadoukens sent her flying higher in rapid succession. Was she clinging on to a sliver of health as well, or did she still have plenty left before the hadoukens struck? Either way, she landed in an unconscious lump. If the drooly smile she fainted with was of any indication, she was the kind who took loss gracefully...Or maybe she was just too groggy to remember that she had been trying to win.

LOCATION: ASHI; PIERCE'S FAMILY MANSION

Even between the two of them, there was some food left over when they arrived at their destination. It was a shame to waste it, but it wasn’t like they could take it with them.

They stepped out from the train and were immediately taken aback by the multitude of armed guards. Hotatu shrunk in on herself even as Manami pushed her forward. Keeping their eyes forward, trying not to glance at the officers’ guns too much, the two of them followed behind Pierce. Manami gave a monotone, ‘yes, Sir’ in response to the order of staying out of trouble.

The car his sister brought was at least as luxurious as the train, but this time the ride was near silent. The tension didn’t ease, and Hotaru kept glancing from the others to watching what passed them by outside. Finally, they arrived at Pierce's home.

Manami stumbled back into Hotaru, legs shaking.

“This is an apartment building right?” she said, looking up at it, “there’s no way this is someone’s house, right?”

Wrong.

The mansion at least the size of their school was all a house owned by a single family. The two of them were still gawking at it, even as they walked in. They focused more on this than they did Odessa’s questions about the sky, only then really looking at the upper dome.

Inside the mansion was utterly luxurious, far beyond what the cookie-cutter exterior would have implied. The group was greeted upon entering with a massive entrance hall, crowned with a mezzanine up above that glimmered in the artificial lights. And beyond the entrance hall was an equally impressive main room with all the essentials and decorated to the nines.

"Sky?" Pierce looks confused by the question. "I don't know what that... oh! wait, I think I remember reading about that kind of thing back in school. Give me a sec to just look up what that means..." He pulls out his phone again for a moment before putting it away. "Oh... right. you must mean the dome over Belon. Believe it or not, we're actually at the bottom of the Crater sea." Pierce exclaims.

At this time another kid came in, looking to be about 13 years old.

"Oh hey, Freddy" Pierce says. "Hey, this is my little brother Freddy" Pierce introduces the boy to the group.

"Hi hi! You're from off world right? Did you want to take a tour around the place?" Freddy says practically bouncing around.

"Ah, well if you're the one to offer, I guess I'll go work on dad, and mine's secret project in the meantime." Piece states before starting to walk off. "I assume dad is still in that meeting, Olivia?" Pierce turns to his sister, to which she nods in reply.

Kenneth pauses for a moment at Sub Zero's question, contemplating how to respond before finally speaking up.

"It's suspected that this person is associated with the terrorist group known as the Fenris Acolytes. They threaten the peace and security we have worked hard to establish here in Novedonis" Kenneth says in a monotone voice, keeping his eyes fixed on a point behind Sub Zero's shoulder.

He leans in slightly and continues in a more hushed voice "We have reason to believe they're planning something big, but we don't have enough intel yet so we need to catch thiz person for interrogation. Do you think you can help with that?"

He sits back again and finishes by saying "We have some information that could help us find them already, but by regulation I can't share that with you until you agree to help and sign the contract."

Kuai nodded curtly. He wanted to bring this man in as well as take down the entire terrorist cell. The answer was simple.

“Very well. I shall aid you in this mission. Where is this man located?”

She listened to the girl's plight, though, placing a hand on her shoulder, "Pilot, don't judge yourself so harshly, I trust you're more capable thank you think. This was hardly an attempt to get Nanome to a better home for her, moreso a roundabout method of getting Nanome into Khara's stead. Khara patted Nanome's shoulder encouragingly, trying to get a good look at the girl's eyes.

You will answer my questions, and afterward, leave with your friend with myself unharmed." Assuming they were keeping eye contact with him, they would fall under the control of the Geass, of which he then asked his questions "Where am I? Why are you doing this? Not being as quick to react as Takemi, she accidentally bumped into Alucard, letting a quiet "oof" out, as she looked to him "ah, apologies, I didn't expect you to stop so suddenly..." and then he decided to help them! as they walked through the building, she looked in awe at how strangely the building was built...it looked nothing like she has ever seen! it was amazing, although eventually, they had stopped in a room with people in formal clothing talking about this 'Jack'. One of the people seemed to be flirty, although she didn't want to say anything to be already kicked out, she didn't like the flirting, letting out an irritated "Hmph", She would just have to pay that one no mind. There were only so many ways to say it, but damn, was this place fancy. This was more wealth and opulence than either of them could ever dream of. Manami at least kept her aspirations to ‘comfortably middle-class’. This was ridiculous. Just what sort of business did these people have? God, she really should have taken her chances with the slums; at least there, she’d stick out less like a sore thumb.

Hotaru, at least, though she was equally struck by the richness of her surroundings, instead of continuing to stare at luxuries around her, turned her attention to Manami.

“It’ll be fine,” she said, wrapping an arm around Manami’s shoulders, “we’ll only be here a little while until we can go looking for the others.” Manami nodded along, grumbling a little as she pulled away.

They were shocked again, at his confusion about the sky.

“You’ve never seen the sky?” Hotaru asked, “have you never been above ground before?”

Between the two of them, several other questions sprung up unsaid: how did they have so many buildings underground? Just how deep did this place go? Just how in the hell did people not lose their minds down here never seeing real sunlight?

When the other boy, Freddy, came in, they agreed that a tour would be helpful, if only so that they didn’t get lost. Neither of them planned on wandering around to begin with, so it couldn’t hurt to know up front where everything was. Out of habit, they both took off their shoes and set them aside before entering farther into the mansion.
