[div class=container][div class=border][div class=name]Dorothea & Jack
[div class=role]lucinius clan members[/div] [div class=image][/div] [div class=textbox][div class=scroll] Even though the house was now empty of the outsiders, Jack couldn't shake the feeling that it still didn't feel like "home". It hadn't since Marcos had been killed. How were they supposed to stay safe in this place, when someone had apparently been able to break in and murder their leader? Jack hadn't been home, or even in New York, the day it had happened. If he had been, he was convinced that things would have ended differently. While he didn't feel comfortable at home anymore, he wasn't scared. There was an eerie and unsettling feeling about the whole situation, but he was still Jack enough to be certain that if the killer wanted to come back for round 2, he would make them pay. Wait--now, the killer didn't even need to be called "the killer", and while it was impossible to shake the unsettling feeling that the house had without Marcos, now knowing (or being convinced) that the killer was Will made things simpler. Simpler merely because the problem now had a solution. Removing Will's pathetic, slimy soul from this planet wasn't going to bring Marcos back, but it was going to be a good start in the healing process for all of them. While vengeance was something he craved in an indescribable way, protecting his clan and making them feel like they were safe and he could protect them, even if it was too little-too late now, was what he cared about the most. He shook his head, declining the cup of tea that Dorothea offered him as she entered the living room with a platter of freshly made cups of the steaming beverage. He had quit consuming human food and beverages (outside of alcohol) long ago. They did nothing for him and by now, chewing food, or tasting anything other than blood or alcohol felt unnatural and foreign to him. He was a simple man in terms of tastes and needs; always had been, always would be. Dory knew this, and yet to this day, she would still offer things to him. Granted, it was typically only in group settings and out of politeness, since she didn't frequently consume much human food either. Jack's gaze remained focused on the window across the room that he was staring out of, looking at nothing in particular. He was zoned out, trying to process how that little rat had managed to kill Marcos. Marcos, of all people! He could see him taking down Lex maybe if he was lucky, definitely Josie, but Marcos?! Jack didn't think that even he, himself, or Alsek, the best of the Ventari combat forces, could take down Marcos. It was baffling that that weasel managed to do it, but everything lined up well enough that it was hard to think of any other possibility. "You're sure he didn't look familiar to you at all?" he asked suddenly, breaking the silence that had filled the room for the few moments that Josie and Lex had been in there after joining him. He wasn't sure how the meeting ended, or what they had all done afterwards. He didn't care. His mind was made up on what was going to happen. Though he had continued to look out the window for a few moments after posing the question, he then looked to Josie, to confirm that he was talking to her. She had been home the day Marcos had been killed, and as far as they all knew, he had been killed here. Why he had been home in the middle of a work day was unknown, an extra mystery in the whole saga. Their penthouse was vast in size and therefore, realistically, Josie could have been in her room without hearing Marcos ever come in, but Jack wanted to believe that he didn't go down that easily. That there had been some sort of commotion or fight. Something. "His voice? Nothing?" "Here, my loves," Dorothea said, setting two cups of tea down on the side table next to Josie and Lex, before offering the remaining, sans one, to the others in the clan. She kept the last one for herself before quietly taking a seat next to Jack. Though tea offered them no nutritional value, the act of sipping it had never lost its calming effect on Dory. It was a typical go-to thing for her to do, to go off and brew a kettle of tea, when she felt like someone (or the clan as a whole) needed a little bit of peace. She rested her free hand on his thigh, rubbing it gently, as she looked curiously at Josie for her response. Name: Robin Walker Clan: Abarra Location: Black Veil

"Yeah, sure," Robin responded to Catherine's request and handed her the bottle of vodka. Robin didn't really know what to think of this Will. She didn't think she liked him very much, considering what she heard at the meeting, and how Cat and Ojore reacted to seeing him. The drama he caused was all too serious in her opinion. Cat seemed to be the most affected out of the clan members though.
Robin wondered how Ojore would react when he found Will. He had caused a lot of trouble between the clans for no reason, and would probably be punished in some way. He also increased the suspicion of the Abarra clan, which wasn't cool. Robin didn't think Will killed Marcos though, it seemed too obvious. She had been kind of excited about all the new drama but seeing how it was affecting her clanmates made it less fun. She hoped this would be resolved quickly.

It was still easy for her to forget just how grand this place truly was. Keeping herself stored away in a single room did get old, but it was really the isolation that was the issue, not the size. It was larger than anything she'd ever had in her life, so she certainly wasn't feeling cramped by any means. And so the times when she did step go anywhere besides the library or terrace, she was taken aback, and reminded just how small her room really was in comparison. Subsequently, just how small and locked away she was from her real world. The reminder made it even harder for her to sit on the far end of the couch, leaning her body over the arm of the seat with an arm dangling over the side. Her eyes drifted to follow Dory. She appreciated the woman's normalcy and her poise. When she first arrived here months ago, Dory had been around here and there to help her adjust. They should have been comforting memories. To have someone there, a woman no less, to try and calm and nurture you. And there were times when she didn't have enough energy to fight back--most times, really, considering her denial over her diet until her body refused to let her deny it--and she sat with her and caved into herself. The thing was, what she disliked more than her current reality was the stage in between then and now. Still, she did find peace when Dory was around. She hung onto Lex merely out of necessity and fear, but with Dory, it didn't feel like such a requirement. That was a comfort in itself. Josie looked at the tea she had placed for her and Lex.

Somehow she could spell the delicate notes of the beverage from where she sat; another reminder of her eternal state. And while it smelled delicious, it did nothing for her. As she looked around to the others, who were obviously eons removed from their humanity than she was, she could only think how numbed they were to pretending they were like the rest of the population. It was like watching a pack of wolves dressed as hens. Jack's inquiry merely confirmed that she sat amongst the pack. It wasn't because he was being aggressive or anything or the nature. He simply embodied everything that annoyed her about this reality. "I couldn't tell you from the rest of them," Josie said drily, lifting her body up so that she was leaning back on the couch. "I stay away for a reason. I don't care about your affairs, let alone your leader. Who cares who did it?" She crossed her arms around her body and looked towards the other side of the room. "You're beneath justice. All you want is vengeance. Or perhaps it's karmic justice," she mused. "For his actions. A life for a life."

[div class=container][div class=border][div class=name]Dorothea & Jack
[div class=role]lucinius clan members[/div] [div class=image][/div] [div class=textbox][div class=scroll] Dorothea's lips remained lightly pressed against each other. She was well spoken and unafraid of interjecting in any conversation, especially one within her own clan, but she didn't feel that her voice was needed right now. Josie was a part of the clan now. New, yes, but a part of the clan nonetheless. Her voice and opinion deserved to be heard just as loudly as the rest of them. Still, the ways of the clan weren't going to change despite her presence, so she didn't feel inclined to step in despite knowing that Josie's comments were going to rile Jack up. And rile Jack up they did. A smile appeared on his face as soon as he sensed the direction that Josie's tone was taking this. It was an amused one, and he looked to Lex with it, growing even a tad wider, as his expression read: "Is this chick for real?". Lex had brought this girl in with no warning, no authorization. Jack's initial opinion on her arrival was that she needed to be eliminated. Their clan wasn't in the market for a new addition, and considering the circumstances, it was just a recipe for disaster. Turning a human in modern times was far more complicated than it had been in the past. With how well connected humans were, turning a human required a more elaborate story to remove their human selves from the world without raising too much suspicion. Attempting to do it in one of the busiest cities in the world while continuing to allow her to reside here was a seemingly impossible task. So far, they had managed to do it (and of course she didn't appreciate their efforts and how elaborate their work was...), but it wasn't something Jack would ever willingly force the clan to do. Of course, the man that Josie was now distancing herself from, was the only reason she was spared a death sentence. Lex thought that his word meant shit--yeah, right. Right now, as he looked at the girl with amusement in his eyes, he told himself that he would've had Lex killed off too if it meant getting rid of this problem child. "You stay away because we force you to stay away," he began, when he finally responded to Josie. The smile still remained, though the look of enjoyment had faded considerably. "You wouldn't survive a day out there without this clan, little girl," he said, as he stood up, walking away from them all and towards the window a few feet away. He stared out at it, continuing. "And I'll have you know, I care to know who did it because it's my job to protect the rest of us. As a member of this clan, we look out for each other. I suppose Lex forgot to send you that memo the day this all happened, but I'll make sure it doesn't happen again, and you know what? You're welcome in advance, because everyone sitting in this room here knows that you'd be the first one that the Abarras would off if they had the chance. Hard to say whether any of the rest of us would even mind, other than me. And you wanna know why that is, kid? Because you're part of this god damn clan, whether you like it or not, and that's how shit works here." By the end of his remarks, the smile had been completely wiped away from his face, and he had wandered back to the couches, though he hadn't lowered the volume of his voice from the level it had been at by the windows. Dorothea had let Jack go off on his tirade, though she had felt compelled to interrupt him on more than one occasion. "What Jack's trying to say--" she began, only to be interrupted by Jack's booming voice stating, "I said what I said. She's got ears, or are those as defective as her brain too?" Dorothea was the one wearing the smile now, though hers was far less amusement based and more "I will kill you if you try me again" centered. "Sweetheart," she began, looking to Jack with feigned fondness. "Interrupt me one more time, or speak to her with that tone again, and William Shaw will be the last of your worries, understood?" Her voice mimicked the condescending nature that Jack's had sported when addressing Josie. He would hear from Dory about calling the younger girl out of her name later on. The disrespect of a woman by a man was one that Dorothea never seemed to be able to sweep under the rug, regardless of the circumstance. Jack sunk back into his seat on the couch, a sign that read submission in Dorothea's book. A satisfied smile appeared on her face as she took a sip of her tea, then looked to Josie, leaning forward in her seat to view the girl better. "As I was saying, the situation at hand is more than just vengeance, or even justice. It's situation entangled in decades and decades worth of trouble that unfortunately, was never addressed in real time." While Dory had taken a liking to the new addition to their team, as it awakened the maternal instinct in Dory that had lay dormant for a while, she would remind Lex that he needed to keep Josie informed about these types of things. She was mostly his responsibility, after all. "Enough of this, though. I don't think it warrants anymore discussion, unless anyone has any questions?" she said, taking another sip of her tea. As they had declared earlier, the verdict was sealed. Whether Josie had any information or not would only complicate things really, because they didn't need any evidence pointing away from William when they wanted to kill him regardless. Ojore's declaration wasn't one that Lex took lightly. The man was a powerful leader, and a powerful vampire in an individual sense. While the Abarra clan was one that was typically associated with violence, chaos and mayhem, and each of the members lived up to that in some way or another, Ojore possessed some sort of air that allowed him to feel more... grounded than the others. He was still just as uncivil as the others, but less volatile. His moves were more well thought out; he was more intelligent. It brought him closer to their level on the playing field, though not quite there mentally, in Lex's opinion, but the sheer force that one couldn't question came in Ojore's force. Lex had no doubt that Ojore could probably single handedly take down a slew of vampires. He didn't think that he would live to see the end of a fight with Jack, but Lex wasn't delusional enough to think that if he went into hand-to-hand combat with Ojore, that he would come out victorious. As someone who had been thrust into a leadership role, having to weigh in on decisions like this, where he knew that the outcome would put himself and his family at risk, even thinking about it made Lex's head hurt. Kamaria had stayed for a little while longer after Ojore left, but the meeting ended with little progress done on how to fix the problem at hand. They needed to kill Will, but at what cost? Alexandre agreed that they needed to eliminate Will once and for all just like Jack did, but Ojore's response posed more issues that needed to be addressed too, and Lex didn't want Jack to act impulsively without considering them. He knew that no one cared about Josie like he did, especially not Jack, but when it came down to it, she was the weakest link. Ojore's little comment and looked had only reminded Lex of that (not that he needed any reminders).

Lex wished that he had been paying more attention because he would have been able to answer Jack for Josie, instead of allowing her to speak. Lex didn't mind going back and forth with Josie over any and everything. He found it to be amusing, and sometimes she was even endearing and entertaining during their banter. He wasn't the type to want to stifle her any more than she already was being stifled with this new life either, which was why he often encouraged her to leave her room and socialize with the clan. However, he would have been the first person to cut her off from having an opportunity to engage with an already amped-up Jack if he could. He expected Jack to have had more restraint, and he expected Dorothea to step up as Jack started up with his harsh monologue, but neither happened. The expectations weren't well founded on Lex's part, to be fair, and were more of wishful thoughts if anything. Jack's loud and dominant voice left little ability for interruption, and, well, everyone knew better than to interrupt Dorothea. Lex wanted to tell Jack to fuck off, but by the time there was room for anyone to speak, Dory was closing the book and attempting to move on.

"Don't talk to her like that, man," Lex demanded, a stoic look on his face as he looked to Jack. "I'm serious, don't ever talk to her, or about her, like again," he continued with more anger behind his words. Jack had crossed more than one line and it wasn't appropriate in any sense. If he had a problem with someone as harmless as Josie, he could take it up with Lex. He was immature and childish to attempt to prove how macho he was by attempting to put her into her place when she hadn't done anything wrong. "Honestly, I don't want to hear any of you say a damn thing about her, all right?" he said, looking around as he spoke with an uncharacteristic level of bitterness. "She's a part of this clan just as much as any of us, and if she's got something to say, she's gonna say it, and you're gonna listen, just the same as I have to listen to all of your shit for hours and hours on end."

Josie knew as she was speaking that she was testing her luck. Nowhere was it appropriate to be so blasé about the death of someone's loved one. In part, Josie meant what she said because she still couldn't comprehend how delusional they all were. She was really supposed to care, let alone help, them bring justice to their leader? Tuh! She had actual family and friends that she cared about. People that she thought about every day, wondering what must be going on in their mind in regards to her just vanishing. She wanted to reach out sooner, but she needed a solid excuse, and as time went on, that excuse needed to be even more outlandish and reasonable. That priority was also competing with her own internal challenge with coming to terms with and even understanding all of the changes from the past six months. In February, she was turning down hanging out with her friends because she was drowning academically and financially. And now...things were like this. Even by that point early in the year, while her mind wasn't set up, she had already settled on the fact that the chances she would see the next decade were very slim. It wasn't solidified in the way that it had been that spring night when everything went wrong. She didn't have a plan for it, but she could feel the truth of her intuition. She didn't that being dead by year's end would mean by dead like this.

So yes, she knew she was pushing the line, but their issues were trivial to hers. And to expect her to want to participate in any of this? Laughable. Even still, Josie was rarely so emotionally driven outside of closed doors. That energy was instead redirected to keeping her guard up and counting down the time until she could stow away again. Right now she didn't feel as on edge as she had during the council meeting; these weren't strangers she was sitting amongst. She didn't, however, feel at ease. If she didn't have the emotions behind her, and if she didn't have a creeping hunger that was getting harder to ignore, she would have easily given Jack the treatment she tended to give Lex. She would have simply turned her head away and remained silent because she truly meant what she said when she said she wanted no part of any of this. With Jack, especially, she had no desire to communicate with him. Even with Lex and Dory just feet away, she didn't feel comfortable around him. She certainly sank further into her seat as he went on, and if she didn't feel the weight of her fear hugging her to the couch, she would have had half the mind to just retreat to her room. Even as Dory spoke to her in a more appropriate way, she wasn't comforted. She didn't look up from her hands as the others continued to exchange amongst themselves. While her words were direct towards Lex, her response was really for Jack.

"This clan is the last thing I want or need," she said, her voice hardening. While any kind of misalignment with external and internal representations was a thing to work on, it was in Josie's benefit that when she was actually hurt or upset, she appeared the opposite. She didn't have the luxury of soft skin and tears. Picking herself off the ground and bucking up when the time came? Those were her tears. Inside, she felt like she was going to come apart, but she now lifted her gaze with the same poise and intent as before. "I'm not forced to do anything." It wasn't the most accurate statement since she certainly wasn't sitting around the compound for the nice views or pleasant company. But she needed to make clear that she wasn't some hostage either. She'd had no desire to step outside of her room for the longest time, and even still she wouldn't only treat herself to sneaking to the library, or to the terrace to watch the world she was no longer a part of. Up until now, she'd certainly had no desire to step outside. What was worse than having to face herself was having to face the reality that what was outside this compound no longer belonged to her. The longer she stayed inside, the longer she could go without having to address that. The only reason for the change of heart was because she wanted to feel human again. Each day it became more difficult to deny the truth, so perhaps distancing herself away from it, and doing so by embracing what she was trying to hold onto, would make coming to terms with things easier. After the council meeting, she needed to feel like she was even less a part of these creatures' world more than ever. "You might have taken my life away from me, but not my autonomy. I want to be around you lot as little as possible, and until now I didn't realize the best way to do that was to be out of this prison twenty-four-seven. I come and go as I please, and tomorrow I'm going. I know there's not an ounce of empathy in your stale hearts, but I actually have people I love who need to hear from me and know I'm not somewhere in a ditch. So don't be surprised when you don't see me tomorrow; not that anyone cares if I go missing," she said, echoing Jack's earlier sentiment.

[div class=container][div class=border][div class=name]Dorothea & Jack
[div class=role]lucinius clan members[/div] [div class=image][/div] [div class=textbox][div class=scroll] Where was it that Lex had found this girl at? A comedy club, perhaps? She certainly had jokes up her sleeve, Jack was certain of that. His ability to switch between darkness-fueled-amusement and anger was something that was characteristic of his being, but Dory had dampened his mood enough that he opted against taking on that belittling side in this moment. Instead, his eyes drifted towards Alexandre, as he gauged the male's reaction to the girl's comments. Alexandre's insistence that they don't talk about Josie like she was the moronic human-wannabe that she was wasn't very fear invoking, simply because it was coming from Lex. Compared to other vampires out there, Lex was decent in strength. He was intelligent, so maybe that made up for what he lacked in bulk, but still, any threats he made towards Jack went in one ear and out the other. He knew the boy was too smart to attempt to back those threats up with any force, so Jack didn't humor him with a response. As he took this situation in, he began to feel like the three-hundred-year-old vampire that they were considering trusting their clan with was just as much of a petulant child as the new vampire he had recklessly turned. Inexperienced and out of touch with the dangers of the world. Jack could have responded to Josie, correcting her for every misstep she had taken in her response, but he kept his mouth shut this time. This entire conversation seemed like a waste of time now, just as the earlier meeting had been. Jack's mind was made up that William had to go, and that was the top priority on his list. Before all of this, dealing with Josie and the repercussions that came with a new vampire had been up there on the list, but now, that was something he was more concerned with Lex dealing with. Dorothea seemed to be on the same page. She looked at Josie with an expression that bordered pity as the girl spoke. Such a pretty, young girl. It was a shame that she had been thrust into this life, at this time out of all of them. Dorothea found eternal youth to be a blessing more than a curse, and she was certain that Josie would eventually come to see that too. It was going to be a tad more difficult though, because they didn't have the time to focus on her as she deserved with everything else going on. With that in mind, Dory's eyes eventually fell onto the figure that Jack was still eyeing: Lex. Josie was a part of their clan now, so the responsibility of ensuring her well being fell upon them all, but she was first and foremost a product of impulsiveness. "Oh dear," she said, her tone sprinkled with light concern and surprise, "She doesn't know? You never told her?" Dory wasn't against the idea of Josie leaving the complex with Lex and beginning to embrace her role in her new world. In fact, she had pushed Lex to start doing that a while back. The sooner that Josie realized that she still had a "life" even if it wasn't the one she had lived in her last life, the sooner that she would realize that this wasn't all that bad, and become a useful and productive member of the team. Before she could leave with Lex though, she had to be informed of how her old self was gone -- and all that that rouse entailed. After she had been out with Lex or other clan members enough to prove that she had self-control in crowds upon crowds of humans with blood rushing through their veins, then sure, she was free to do as she wished. While Dorothea could have explained how they wrote Josie's human self out of the history books herself, she purposely worded her response to insinuate that Lex had dropped the ball. That he had been the one deceiving Josie or holding information back from her, rather than the rest of them. He did need to step up now that Marcos was gone, even if Dory didn't think he would be stepping up in power just as highly as he may have assumed himself. The anger that Josie felt towards all of them was understandable given the situation, but at the same time, none of them had asked for her to be turned any more than she had asked to be turned. Lex had created this problem for her, and had simultaneously created this problem for them. Josie's opinion that they were all altering the quality of her life was off because of that, and while Dory was calm and understanding enough to accept the fury despite it being unfairly placed, she also understood why Jack was less accepting of it. [/div] [/div] [/div] [div class=right] [div class=scroll] The doors to the Black Veil wouldn't open to the public for another hour. Dion had been busy taking care of a shipment downstairs. When he got back to the main level he can already feel the regret about giving the Abarra members free rein of the bar. The amount that both Himera and Miss Catherine were drinking alone had him worried about having anything to serve when they open. He walks over to the three Abarra women with the intention of limiting their drinking if need be.

"Mera… you and Miss Catherine need to save some for the actual guests." He scolded before taking the empty glass Cat had slid over and Himera's unfinished drink out of her hands.

"I would ask how the meeting went but… I feel like that's unnecessary." Dion said while gesturing to the bottle of vodka that Catherine somehow got in her grasp. He sets the glasses down and turns to Himera with his arms crossed.

Himera Leos, who had been drinking since well before the meeting leans forward from her seat so that her face met his,

"Dee either join us for a drink or make me another." Her tone indicated to Dion that she has had one too many. But before he could do anything to calm her behavior, the entrance doors swing open and a voice echoes through the near-empty club. As soon as Himera sees Will, her expression darkens and she quickly yet unsteadily jumps from her seat.

"Robin and Cat stay behind me." She angrily growls. Himera was ready to take a step forward when Dion grabs her by the arm. He knew how much of an angry drunk she was… and although he elected not to involve himself in clan matters, he didn't want to see any sort of brawl happen on the newly waxed floors. As Josie stood next to the couch, she did so not for the purpose to make herself seem bigger. If anything, she wanted very much to curl into herself, which was why she was making the steps towards exiting from this conversation. She took a step back from the couch, beginning to pivot on her heel until Dorothea spoke. Josie would have been more annoyed by this apparent secret since of course she wouldn't know whatever they were talking about. She didn't know anything and she didn't care to know. What settled her irritation was Dory's tone. She watched the blonde for a second, the fire from her eyes dimming into one of more ginger curiosity. She turned her attention to Lex then, and dropped her shoulders, shaking her head slightly in exasperation. She nodded her heads towards Dory. "What is she talking about? Tell me what?"

Now, Lex wished even more that Josie had just shaken her head and told Jack that she hadn't seen or heard anything suspicious that day. The last thing he needed was for the spotlight to be on him, interrogating him about a problem that shouldn't have been the top concern tonight. Marcos' killer was nearly identified (even with little to no solid proof), and they were more concerned with talking about whether or not he had told Josie that she didn't really exist anymore in her old human world? Lex knew that he should have already addressed this with Josie, and that her acting so defiantly just furthered how much of a bad look this was on him. Being forced now, to acknowledge that he had fucked up, yet again, irked him but because he knew that he was wrong, he was in a tough spot. He couldn't just tell Josie "don't worry about it" and attempt to push back having the conversation, because Dorothea and Jack were sitting right here, looking at him in a way that spoke to their expectations. Plus, he knew that it coming to light now, that he hadn't kept Josie fully in the loop, probably had Jack feeling some sort of way towards him now, too. He didn't doubt that Jack still felt like Josie was a brat, but the way Dorothea had posed her question also likely now had them feeling like part of Josie's demeanor stemmed from being left in the dark thanks to Lex.

He wasn't prepared to have this conversation, nonetheless in these circumstances, so he paused, attempting to magically come up with a way to address this in a way that simmered the tension rather than spurring new tension.

"Hello?" Josie said, her question reminding Lex that he probably should have addressed this earlier, when he wasn't expected to think on his toes in front of an audience.

"Your 'people' know that you aren't coming back," Lex stated plainly. He didn't know how else to put it, and at this point, there didn't seem to be any point in (or way to) sugarcoat it to be anything other than what it was. "Your family was told that you're no longer alive. Columbia and your friends there, as well," he continued, looking away from Josie momentarily as he straightened his form on the couch, before looking back to her. "Your human self is dead, and you're one of us now, but that doesn't mean that the world is over. There's so much more that you'll be able to do as a vampire than you ever could have done as a human, if you just accept it and give it a chance."

[div class=container][div class=border][div class=name] Jack
[div class=role]lucinius clan member[/div] [div class=image][/div] [div class=textbox][div class=scroll] Shit, maybe Lex wasn't so smart. How did he think that that was the right thing to say? Jack did think that vampires were superior to humans (Josie was a great example of why that was true, as she was just barely a vampire and still reeked of human ignorance), but that was Lex's rational for why Josie needed to give this a chance? "Or how about you be straight with her, since it seems like you haven't had the decency to do that yet," Jack said, inviting himself into this conversation again. He looked to Joise as he demanded, "You either accept it and give it a chance, or we kill you. Simple as that." While the Lucinius clan definitely didn't embody the words coming out of Jack's mouth, at the very least, it wasn't like he hadn't always been this real. He wasn't just now trying to act big and bad since Marcos was gone. Jack had always been just as much of an aggressive loud mouth, voicing his opinions behind closed doors, as he was now. What allowed him to remain a Lucinius was that he could still save face in public. He wasn't an Abarra going around tormenting the city and setting society ablaze for the fun of it. His wrath appeared more than some felt appropriate, but it was always reactionary rage. It came on out of the defense, not the offense. "Those are your two options. You choose to accept it, and you can be like the rest of us and leave this place as much as you want. Go and make a name for yourself and do something other than hide away uselessly while we support you. Or we can make good on what we told your family." Unlike before, he wasn't speaking with anger. In fact, part of him felt relieved that this conversation was happening, because if Josie chose option two, it would make life a hell of a lot easier for him. At first, she raised her brow--partially in confusion, and partially because she interpreted this statement that she wasn't coming back as some sort of challenge. Lex's tone also leant itself to being easily misinterpreted. She used to hate him. Really, really hate him. And now, she only sometimes got to a point where she couldn't stand the sight of him. To say she liked him now was about as far of a reach as her being able to take on any of the vampires in New York. Still, she knew him the best and she relied on him the most--the latter of which she was reluctant to even admit. She knew not to expect any kind of human decency from people like him, if they could even be called people. She did still have expectations though. She pushed him because she could, and because deep down she knew he wasn't going to hurt her. So to think that he would actually deliver news like this, in the tone of voice he was doing so, wasn't really on the table.

She pursed her lips some and narrowed her eyes as she listened to him. When he met her gaze again and finished speaking, she stood silently, as though she was waiting for him to continue. He was done. That was it? She chuckled through her nose; a curt, breathy exhale. "What are you...?" She rolled her eyes in response to Lex's cryptic tongue before looking back towards Dorothea. "What is he talking about?" By the time she was ending her question, Jack was speaking. She momentarily looked towards Lex upon Jack's request that he be upfront with her before she turned back to the latter.

She would have gotten there eventually. Had Jack never opened his mouth, It would have only taken a few additional seconds of silence for things to start coming together. For her to re-hear what Lex said, and to reprocess all of it. Instead, it was more like being slapped back to back, all while trying to focus on what everything meant. Josie shifted her eyes away from Jack, but she still wasn't really looking at anything. She was... Her mind skipped over the word only to replay everything she'd just been told. Josie stood still for a while, only moving to place her palm to her temple in an attempt to tame the thoughts and images competing for her attention.

How was this happening again?

This wasn't happening again.

She'd already been robbed of her life and her death before. She'd had most of the year to think back to that night and to map out all the ways it could have been avoided. Her bitterness towards what had happened to her didn't just stem from a sense of theft. It had really forced her to accept the fact that she wanted to live. It was how she'd managed to not go completely insane in that room, thinking about how she was living with the fear and worry of what she would have put her friends and family through had she not run into Lex that night. Her family had already lost a child, and in a way they'd lost her too since being torn apart. She couldn't recall the sound of her mother's voice without static from the poor reception being in the mix. Nothing had changed as far as her relationship towards herself. Despite how it appeared, she didn't have any time to hate herself. Sure, in the very beginning she had tried to finish what she never got a chance to attempt. She didn't drink soda so much in the beginning just because she was in denial. Just as before, she cared more about her loved ones than she did herself. It was the same reason she had concluded her demise, and even the way in which she would do it. Finding her in bed with an empty bottle of pills beside her would have been better than finding her with her wrists slit open. Everything came back to her on the surface, but it was her people that were her driving force.

Josie couldn't think of the last time she had control over anything though. This was before Lex; it was the entire year. The only thing she felt she had some sort of control over was going back to her old life and not taking it for granted. At least with this clan, they seemed to care about blending in, which, as much as Josie gave them slack for it, she appreciated. In her mind, that meant that when she was ready, she could somehow manage to go back to how things were, save a totally new diet and certain skin restrictions. And now it turns out that possibility, that sense of control, was never hers to begin with. Now all the subsequent consequences of if she had succeeded in April she played over and over in her mind so that she could think of a way to mend things over when she was ready... She was playing those over again, but this time knowing she couldn't do anything. Without any attempt on her part, now that she was subconsciously consuming what all of this meant, her mind raked her brain for any remnants of this old life. The last time she saw her friends, or spoke to her parents in a real sense, not in a pre-meditated, secret goodbye way. What those last real conversations and moments were about. None of them existed in the first four months of the year, but before then she wasn't jotting down the final authentic scenes of her memoir.

Her gaze remained focused a couple feet in front of her. "Tu mens, n'est-ce pas?" After silence was the only response she received, her eyes shifted up, her tongue rolling over the front of her teeth, passing over now elongated canines. As the side of her mouth twitched ever so slightly, she chuckled through a shaky breath. Right now she was angry with herself. Here she was thinking that she truly believed she lived among wolves in sheep's clothing, but she'd clearly gotten used to living in the den because otherwise, she wouldn't feel how she was feeling right now. More than anything, though, she felt that hunger she'd been ignoring, and the irritation it'd been having on her body. There was the smallest part of her that tried to be reasonable. That told her to continue looking at nothing, turn around, and walk away. But that was also the human part of her she'd been pretending she still had. And for once, she would heed their advice and forget that part of her. "Tu es le pire d'entre eux," she hissed as she turned her gaze to Lex. She didn't think it was possible to hate someone so much to the point where she couldn't even see straight, to the point that the way she lunged towards him felt as instinctive as throwing your arms out to cushion a fall.

If nothing else positive could be said about the meeting, at least it hadn't been boring. The appearance of William Shaw, a long lost member of New York's Abarra clan, had taken the meeting and turned it into a whole different ball game. Zaire remembered Will from back in the day. He hadn't been the police commissioner at the time, and he was grateful for that. One of the tricky parts about remaining in a city for so long was the need to change identities every couple of decades. 'Black don't crack' worked in Zaire's favor and he could get away with playing the same character for longer than most, but eventually, skin as wrinkle-free as his would raise suspicion when everyone else was aging over time. Even if Zaire hadn't been involved in the situation that William had caused from a legal standpoint, all of New York's vampires had to remember that day like it was yesterday. It wasn't everyday that vampires killed each other, especially ones blending into modern society. When it came out that William had orchestrated the event that had left one vampire dead, one injured, and tons of humans murdered, it was pretty big news. In the human world, and the vampire world. Zaire's opinions on the death penalty were typically circumstantial, but he wouldn't have been opposed to it if that was what the Abarra male had gotten at the time. His banishment to Paris felt like a slap on the wrist, because Paris was no Alcatraz or Gitmo. It was a city known for cafes, art, and baguettes. If anything, it sounded nicer than New York. Zaire hadn't been in a position to object at the time, and even if he had been, once William was gone, he was pretty quickly forgotten on the Ventari front. Understandably, the same probably couldn't have been said for the Lucinius clan, whose member was killed due to Will's reckless nature. Nonetheless, this was the first time Zaire was thinking of the forgotten face in over a century.

"So, what's the move, boss lady?" he asked with a relaxed smile, as he took a seat with the rest of the clan. He wasn't sure what Kamaria had up her sleeve, but he trusted her nonetheless. She was their leader for a reason, and even if she had never dealt with Will in particular, Zaire knew that she had dealt with her fair share of conflict and that she had a reputation for coming out victorious no matter what.

Overview

While the whole William situation had obviously caught Catherine off guard enough to leave her shaken and confused, his arrival now at The Black Veil was less surprising. It was somewhat relieving actually, because at least she could see that he was still alive and Jack hadn't gotten to him yet. Jack or Ojore. Catherine wasn't sure which one Will deserved to be more scared of right now. Unsurprisingly, the look on his face and the way he made his entrance into the private room they were all hanging out in, suggested that "scared" wasn't his current emotion, nor was it even an emotion stored away in his mood-box. It was what had made him so intriguing when Catherine had first met him. She had lived more than twice as long as he had, and yet Cat had never been too much of an adventurous soul. She liked the comforts of knowing that she was safe and taken care of. She enjoyed mischief and didn't live inside of a safe little bubble, but Will's stories of pirating, and sailing the open seas sounded so cool to her. The lives that he had lived were nothing like the ones that she had lived in her time on the planet. He was fearless and clearly, that was a blessing and a curse.

"He couldn't take any of us even if he tried," Catherine stated after taking a swig of vodka from the bottle that Robin had handed her. Himera seemed ready to fight and normally that would have either alarmed Catherine or amused her, but Will had caused too much drama in his short time back. She probably would have been drinking whether he was back or not, but she would blame drinking in excess tonight on him, and that was what she wanted to focus on instead of all of the negativity. "Well, he could probably take you," she said, carelessly swinging the bottle around to point it towards Robin. In Robin's defense, Cat only saw her as being weaker since she was a relatively new vampire still. She was still young enough to technically be alive in her first human lifespan. That didn't really have much to do with physical strength, but Catherine had now convinced herself that Will's immaturity stemmed from being "young" himself, as well. It was the easiest excuse to make herself feel better and superior about the whole situation. She sat sideways in her chair with her legs dangling over one of the chair's arms, as she craned her neck backwards and called out to the bar's employee, Dion, who she wasn't ever sure was still in the room or not. "Dion, babe, pour Will a drink, pretty pretty please? Something good! His last drink needs to be special before Ojore beheads him!"

[div class=container][div class=border][div class=name]Dorothea & Jack
[div class=role]lucinius clan members[/div] [div class=image][/div] [div class=textbox][div class=scroll] "Mmm... a pity he didn't listen to me in the first place," Dorothea mulled aloud, raising her eyebrows as she took a sip of her tea as she watched this play out in front of her. Neither she nor Jack flinched, or even moved in any sort of manner as to stop Josie from lunging at Lex. They both merely watched, willing to see how this played out. On Dorothea's part, she didn't feel the need to get physically involved because it didn't seem necessary. She wasn't one to expel energy for wasteful reasons. Lex had gotten himself into this predicament, and he could get himself out. On top of that, she knew that Josie didn't have the capacity to hurt Lex anyway, and even if she did, he deserved it. It would be a nice lesson to remind him to take care of his responsibilities before they came back to bite him in the ass. Jack didn't give a damn if Josie hurt Lex right now either, but his lack of concern over what was happening stemmed mostly from his interest in this waning in this scene as a whole. He liked immediate decisions and actions. He wasn't the type who could really engage in the dramatics of reality and prolonged discussions and situations with no clear cut and dry answer. Josie either wanted to live or she wanted to die, and while everyone else was more concerned with how she was taking this major revelation emotionally, Jack was more concerned with what the answer to his question was. While his role in the clan was to protect, and granted, that did include internal conflicts too, this registered to him as nothing more severe than a two year old throwing a tantrum. Lex wasn't in any danger, and neither was Josie. Lex was too hopeful. He wasn't delusional enough to assume that Josie would respond to the situation with smiles and laughter, but he didn't expect the reaction that he got. Honestly, he had figured that at least some part of her had to assume that this was what happened anyway. She couldn't have fully believed that there was a whole manhunt going on for her for months, and that they would have still let her sit up here in New York, just steps from where the search was going on. He recognized that what he said carried a lot of emotional weight, but it wasn't his fault that Dorothea had forced him to say it here and now! Had he been given time.... more time than the six months he had so far... he would have come up with a way to say it that didn't end in Josie hating him. Or attacking him.

When she lunged at him, Lex remained seating but held up his hands in front of him to brace himself for her body. He could have gotten up within those micro seconds that existed between her turning towards him and moving, but he didn't feel threatened. He would tease her about that later on--did she really think she could hurt him? In truth, she probably was dumb enough to think she could, Lex thought teasingly. That was why his GPA at Columbia had been higher than hers. "Come on, relax!" he insisted.

Josie didn't swing at Lex because she actually thought she could hurt him. It was very evident that she really couldn't do anything. By the time she could actually hear any voice of reason, she'd be throwing her fists uselessly, only getting angrier each time. But each time, she also grew more tired, and it was certainly far quicker than it would have normally been. Eventually, she pushed away from him in frustration, not bothering to clear her vision from the tears that obstructed it. "I want you dead! It should've been you and Marcos." She grabbed the cup of tea on the table, tossing its contents onto him. "I'm glad he's dead if it means your pain . He could die a hundred times over just so I could you see suffer. Hopefully you're not the murderer because I hope they come for you next, you sick fuck."

While her words and actions seemed inappropriate from Lex's perspective, he had enough insight to at least recognize (or hope) that she was acting out of hurt more than anything. He felt bad that she had tears welling up in her eyes, but he didn't think that she wanted him to attempt to comfort her. It wasn't a hard assumption to come to after being told that she wanted him dead... Still though, he did feel bad. He kept his hands up shielding his face from her slowly ending barrage of punches and hits, and allowed her to say what she needed to say until she was done. It felt wrong to not attempt to say something once the verbal and physical assault came to a finish, but what was there to say? The "I'm sorry you feel that way," that came out of his mouth probably didn't do much good.

William "Will" Shaw
--
Will smiled slightly when Himera stood up, telling the others to stand behind her as if he was some sort of threat. Was he? Is that the way they saw him? Will frowned internally, that wasn't his intentions at all - in fact he wouldn't dream of purposely hurting them. As Will studied Himera, it came apparent that she was intoxicated leaving Will slightly on edge, he hated not being in control of a situation and drunk people were hard to control. Looking past her, his eyes dropped on Catherine, his smile widened and his expression softened although her words following that stung. Of course the two older vampires could quite easily take him in a fair fight but Will never fought fair. When Catherine was done with her request to Dion, the bar tender, Will sauntered towards the bar, pushing a strand of hair from his face as he did so.

"Come now, Himera, I could not possibly want to harm anyone here," Will stated, his lips still curled into a smile. William took a look around the infamous Black Veil. Interesting decor, most definitely a place in which Will would have frequented had it been possible for him to remain in the city. When Himera would visit Paris from time to time, she would tell him of the swanky new business venture and William was intrigued to say the least. Being here now did not disappoint, the bars reputation held strong. William leaned up against the bar and looked at the three women, one being a complete stranger and pondering for a second, his hands resting atop the bar. Will's fingers drummed against the bar top, long and slender they created a rhythm.

"Catherine, my dazzling princess, how have you been?" William looked toward Catherine, his piercing eyes almost glowing against the dark hue within the building. Even now, after all these years, he still harboured feelings for the older vampire. Trying to chain these feelings up had worked only for so long until it really got the better of him. Feelings were a burden, they only caused unnecessary pain as Will had learned over the years. One of the reasons he had never reached out to Cat over the years was to try and put an end to these feelings but that obviously did not work out. William's mind was also on Catherine's finishing words about Ojore. He did seem quite angry back at the meeting but would he seriously attack Will? So much had changed that Will was unsure and he did not like that. William always had to have the upper hand in these types of situations, how else would he survive? Without the knowledge of how the clans had evolved over the years of his absence, William would be at a severe disadvantage no matter what.

Somehow, she managed to become angrier at his response. This time, though, she didn't lunge at him. That she was even holding his gaze while preventing herself from doing so was a wonder in itself. Once again, she felt trapped and completely useless. There was no way or nowhere for her to unleash this rage and wealth of emotion she felt in this moment. She couldn't do anything to Lex, and she couldn't have anything done to him on her behalf. More than ever before, she wanted nothing to do with this clan--especially the person who sat before her. The only thing she wanted to do with them was to see every single one of them succumb to the same fate as Marcos. Whether or not she wanted that more than Jack's offer--or threat would have been the more appropriate term--was something she was still deciding. In more ways than one, Josie still hadn't finished processing the news and what it meant. She was aware of this, and she really had no desire to complete the grieving process once more. She had no clue what was in store for her if Jack did decide to off her. Certainly the possibilities were more abundant than what she was able to find locked in a bedroom for six months.

As the trend seemed to go, though, she wouldn't meet her demise at the hands of Jack even if that was what she wanted. But it also wasn't either of their call to begin with. If she was going to have a say in anything, it was going to be her own end. For whatever reason, Lex continued to look out for her. Up until now, it was something she mildly appreciated. From now on, though, she would be taking a different approach. She wasn't going anywhere until she made him feel the way she felt right now, and that wouldn't precede seeing him and the rest of this clan suffer. If she was to be a part of this clan, then so be it. "Go ahead then," she said mockingly in response to Jack while she held Lex's gaze before beginning to walk away. As she moved, she couldn't decide if she wanted to feel confined between four walls, or if she wanted to feel detached from the world beneath her. Given that her priority right now was calming this hunger, she would decide later if she would reside in her room or on the terrace. "Sounds like it wouldn't be the first time you betrayed your leader."

Overview
Mentioned: Physiicz Physiicz

Catherine's eyes followed William as he checked the place out. Black Veil was a work of art in Catherine's opinion; Himera had done a fantastic job at capturing the perfect vibe. She spent far too much time there drinking, as she was doing now, and sometimes bar tending (though that was 99% just her drinking too). While Cat's inability to take work seriously had its faults, Kamaria and Himera both couldn't complain, at least, about Cat's ability to maintain a long roster of regulars on the days that she did work at both of their establishments. She was sociable and flirtatious, and was able to lure men into coming again, and again, and again, and tipping well every time, just because she gave them attention and humored their attempts at flirting with her. Cat didn't even do it malicious or manipulatively--she actually enjoyed conversing with strangers and saw it as a fun game rather than a way to scam them into giving her nice tips. The money helped, but as Cat's work ethic suggested, she wasn't really concerned about raking in big bucks. She often stole the nice, expensive things that she wanted anyway, regardless of whether she could have paid for it or not, so money didn't mean that much to her.

"You don't need to pretend to care," she responded flippantly to his question about how she had been. Since she was drinking, it was easier to act abrasively towards William, but once she sobered up this would all start hurting just as badly as it had stung when she had first seen him earlier in the night. She had missed him so badly for so many years. Like him, she had spent those years trying to get over it, and the hurt on her end from feeling like he abandoned her helped to make the lack of contact a little easier. She told herself that if he cared, if he cared about her or anyone other than himself, that he would have reached out at some point. When he didn't, she knew that she had her answer that her feelings for him had always been one-sided. It had been a hard pill to swallow--and one that she had never fully swallowed, as her reaction to his return now indicated, but it had solidified the idea that he didn't care about her. "How have you been, though? All of your French whores must've been keeping you so busy," she mused sarcastically.

[div class=container][div class=border][div class=name]Dorothea & Jack
[div class=role]lucinius clan members[/div] [div class=image][/div] [div class=textbox][div class=scroll] Neither Jack nor Dory said a word as Josie departed, though not before slinging some taunting words in Jack's direction. Once she was gone from the room, he opened his mouth almost immediately though. "So, it's settled. We kill her before sunrise," he stated. It wasn't that killing was suddenly a mundane thing now that Marcos had passed. It still carried the same weight that it had beforehand, but killing a new vampire was different than killing an old one, in his opinion, at least. New vampires were more risky to take into the clan and again, the modern world posed more problems than the old world did when it came to turning vampires. Lex had really screwed up and from the start, Jack had believed that killing Josie was the best way to go about the situation. Now that she really wanted to cause problems, and now that Lex seemed incapable of keeping her tamed, it seemed like the only option they had. "You have that big head of yours and you couldn't even use it to block any of this?!" Dory was less interested in Jack's declaration (which, by the way, was not going to happen on Dory's watch) and more so with the stain that the tea Josie had tossed was going to leave on the couch. She had gotten up and pushed Lex aside to assess the damage. "Thankfully" his body had been hit with most of the hot liquid, so there wasn't much residue left on the couch's fabric, but it was still enough to bother her. She liked things to be perfect--no, she needed things to be perfect. "I'll have to order a replacement tomorrow," she mulled aloud, though it wasn't relevant to either of the men in the room. She didn't mind having an excuse to do some furniture shopping, though she didn't truly have room in her schedule to do it. "In the mean time, you go fix the trouble you caused," she said to Lex, looking at him with mild displeasure before her eyes returned to Jack. "And you," she began, "You mind your manners. The only person that needs to be eliminated is the Abarra boy. We don't kill for fun, Jack. We kill to protect--" Jack opened his mouth to object, wanting it to be known that Josie posed a danger to their clan as well, but Dorothea raised a finger to silence him before a word could escape his lips. "We kill to protect our clan, and our species. Josie is one of us, and moving forward, she will be treated and addressed like one of us. She's just a baby and this is all new to her, so I expect you to show some compassion," she demanded, before looking back to Lex. "And I expect you to do more than the absolute nothing that you have apparently been doing so far. Take her out tomorrow during the day. Give her your ring, and take Marcos' for yourself. Teach her how to be one of us." William "Will" Shaw
--
William’s face glazed over slightly as Catherine spoke. Her voice, although clearly intoxicated, was still heavenly to him. He watched her lips move as she spoke, his eyes darting back and forth although her words came out harsh. He had very clearly destroyed whatever connection the two had shared, how could he be so stupid? No. He wasn't stupid, feelings are burden, remember? Or have you forgotten? You don't want that pain again. Williams internal battle had no affect on his expression. That was one thing he was good at, faking it. Pretending. As William mulled over her words, he couldn't help but laugh slightly. In his time since New York, William hadn't touched a woman nor thought of one in the way he thought of Catherine, did that make him weak? Yes. No. William turned away. His mind continued the onslaught, how could he fix this? Maybe he should have just stayed away. For one he wouldn't have to try and deal with whatever was going on now and for another thing, he definitely wouldn't be in danger.

William turned back to Catherine. He wanted to open up, ask her what she'd been up to, what she had done in his absence, tell her how beautiful she was but with others in the room, William would have to maintain his image. At least until he knew Ojore's intentions. "Paris kept me busy yes, the women not so much." Will looked over toward Dion, "How about that drink, my friend?" William inquired, a disarming smile playing across his lips. It was always easy to wash away any problems that may present themselves, in fact it was so easy that Will was almost always drunk when he was in Paris. Waiting on the drink, William couldn't help but look at Catherine again. He tore his gaze away quickly. Weak. You're weak!

Memories came back to the surface, fresh as if they had been just yesterday. William could see her face, dirty and bruised but still amazingly beautiful. It was 1717, William had been on the slave ship for what seemed like an eternity but it was made easier with Marina. A girl, his age. Stunning and bold, William had loved her. The type of life you only come across once in a lifetime. These memories had been suppressed for so long they came out almost like an explosion. Flashes of her face. of the day a lady had boarded the ship. Picking different slaves. No not picking, buying different slaves. Marina was one of them. William had fought, oh how he had fought but there was nothing he could do. Marina was gone. William didn't realise it at the time but the woman, that dreadful woman who had bought Marina was in fact a vampire. Kamaria to be exact.

William's expression faltered, sadness beaming form his very core. Sadness and pain. Feelings only caused pain.

Kamaria had left the meeting feeling as if nothing had been accomplished, which was true. In the end it seems each of them had decided to go about handling the situation in their own way. Perhaps it would have been better to discuss things between the clan heads, but then again she wouldn’t have been aware of Williams' return either. She would have to inform her members of his return and get as much information as she could regarding what he had done. Seeing as there were members who had been a part of the clan longer than herself she was sure they’d have some useful information for her.

As the familiar view of their home came into view Kamaria could feel herself relaxing. Honestly she couldn’t stand being on Lucinius territory for longer than needed. Being surrounded by them put her slightly on edge. Kamaria stepped out of the car once the door was opened for her. While she would have loved nothing more than to head to her room to enjoy a glass of B- and her silk bed sheets, there was something that she needed to do. As clan leader it was her duty to fill the clan members who hadn’t attended the meeting in. It was an organized and useful way to make sure that they were all on the same page and up to date. To show that they were a united front.

So Kamaria gathered her people and met them in their main board room. She took the time to explain to them the events of the meeting. Kamaria paused for a moment to let them speak. When Zaire spoke up she turned her attention to him. “Good question Zaire. For the safety of everyone here I believe that curfew would be useful. Of course I’m not putting you on lock down but until we find this murderer we need to be vigilant. But of course if you absolutely have to go out I suggest bringing someone along or being very aware of your surroundings. We cannot be caught unaware like Marcos and together we are strong.” She looked at each of them. “I also want everyone to brush up on their combat.” Kamaria looked around the room, urging her members to speak their minds and ask her any questions that they had.

Defeated was the best word to describe how Lex was feeling by the time that Josie stormed off, and Dorothea had finished lecturing him. A conversation that was supposed to focus on eliminating the threat that was William of the Abarra clan, and allowing Lex to flex some of his leadership and mediation skills in the process, had turned into nothing short of a mess. Now Josie hated him even more than she had before, Jack was apparently set on killing Will and Josie, and Dory was pissed at him over a stain on the couch. All of that, and the night had just begun.

He sighed, wiping away some of hot tea that had been tossed at his face. He didn't know how he was going to fix all of this, but he had to do something. Something... tomorrow. Later. Not now. That mindset of postponing difficult things was the one that had led Lex into the predicament that he was currently in, but it wasn't one that he was going to abandon with ease. There were certain situations that he was comfortable with addressing without a second thought. Every career path he had ever taken had been like that; he was intelligent and could get a job done. In his personal life, especially recently, things were a bit trickier. He wanted to blame it on women being overly emotional, since his recent problems were mostly just one problem--Josie, but he knew that it wasn't a fair placement of the blame. He was the one who had turned her, and maybe Dory was right--he hadn't been doing enough to help Josie get acclimated into her new life. He felt like it was better to allow her to ease into it on her own time, and it had felt like she was slowly warming up to him, but maybe he did need to be more hands on. Taking her out into the world sounded daunting in some ways, but he also supposed that Josie would take it as good news. It would allow her some more freedom... so long as she didn't take it too far. Jack's threats were ones that Josie seemed keen on taking lightly, but Lex knew that Jack wasn't afraid to follow through on them. In fact, had Dorothea not been in the room, Lex wouldn't have been surprised if Jack would have went ahead and "taken care" of Josie then and there.

Since Josie's path seemed to indicate that she was going towards the kitchen, Lex opted against following her. He nodded to Dorothea and instead, headed upstairs towards his bedroom. On his way up, he texted Cat, asking her: "Hey, what're you doing tn?".

[/div] [/div] [/div] [div class=right] [div class=scroll] Himera's remaining sober thoughts were fighting to intervene between Will and Cat but Dion's grip on her arm kept her from taking another step. It took a lot of willpower not to lunge herself at Will. One part of her just wanted to keep him safe. The other part wanted to tear him a new one.

She finally settled down back into her seat with Dion off to fetch her a cold glass of B- and the others their drinks. She could tell that Dion didn't want to stick around once this turned into an Abarra meeting. Once he came back with the drinks she told Dion to ready a private lounge for a meeting before reassuring him that she could take care of herself.

As the two younger vampires conversed, Himera tried sobering back up and sent Ojore a text. "The bastard is over at my place. Meeting in the lounge once you can get here." Her thoughts then wondered off to when she first joined the Abarra.

It was just a year after she arrived in New York in 1920 when she opened the Black Veil as a speakeasy for vampires. The competition was cutthroat but despite that, Himera tried to make more friends than enemies since she believed that connections were a key to success. One of the first friends she made was Ojore and his clan. They ended up becoming her best customers and acquaintances.

It wasn't long until she ended joining up with them officially and provided them with some backup in their troubles. After building her way up in the city, she had many more responsibilities to herself and the clan. Will come back with a whole clan potentially after him is not going to deter her from her duties either. She wouldn't hesitate to face the entire Lucinius if she had to.

"Will, whatever shenanigan's you plan while you are here will need to wait. Half of the Lucinius have called for your head." [/div] [/div] [/div] [/div]

After reading Lex's text, and opting not to answer immediately, Catherine watched Will intently, but she didn't believe the words that came from his lips. He was too charming for it to be true, but also charming enough that seeing him here in the flesh made it so much harder to hate him than it had been when he was away. She didn't want her face to light up, heart eye emojis protruding over hers, but... it was hard. Even putting the crush she had had on him behind, he had been her best friend and partner in crime. They had had so much fun together, gotten into so much trouble. Every day was something knew and he always kept her laughing. Things had been okay here without him... Cat kept herself busy. She made her own fun. But no one knew trouble the way that William did. No one knew how to bend it and twist it into an adventure like he did. So, she was conflicted beyond just the physical sensation of the renewed attraction she felt for him. It was a deeper part of her that was rejoicing, but at the same time sobbing. It wasn't like Cat to make things deeper than they had to be. She preferred keeping things at a surface level, somehow finding the fun in everything to avoid the seriousness of life. Rather than gaining her immortality in vampire form, Catherine probably would have been much better suited for immortality on Peter Pan's Neverland, perhaps.

"She's right," Catherine nodded after Himera spoke. "You're going to have to get down on those knees of yours and beg for mercy. Look up at them with those pretty blue eyes of yours," she pondered aloud, a small smile creeping up on her face. "Maybe even put that big mouth of yours to use. Something tells me that you'd be able to satisfy Jack much better than Dorothea can, and maybe after a little TLC he'll stop being such a dick for once," she said, speaking with a purposely innocent tone, as if her suggestion was one that was just as valid as any. She looked back to Himera then, her inability to keep things serious and her desire for mischief overpowering her better nature. "If anyone would know, it's you," she said, playing on the fact that Jack sometimes stopped by the bar when Himera was around. "How about Will gives it a go first, and if that fails, we'll send you in there next."

Zaire nodded as Kamaria spoke, understanding the points she was making. However, it made him wonder whether she truly didn't believe that William Shaw was the murderer. She either believed that he was and still believed him to be a threat, didn't believe that he had killed Marcos, or wasn't sure. Considering that she hadn't been present in New York back when William had been banished, he couldn't have blamed her if it was the last of the options. The intertwined history of the clans was deep, and the person who knew everything about it was now dead. Given how Kamaria was friendly (right?) with Ojore at least to some extent, Zaire couldn't help but to wonder though, if maybe the Abarra leader had fed Kamaria some sort of insider information under the table. Kamaria was a brilliant woman and Zaire didn't think she was susceptible to being fooled by anyone, nonetheless Ojore, but still... it just had him thinking. William being the murderer was so easy to believe. All of the pieces to the puzzle were there.

"You think William may not have done it, then?" he asked, leaning back in his chair as he looked to Kamaria. "I agree that proceeding with caution is the only way to proceed, but everything we have points to him. The motive, the timing, he history, the mental instability..." he trailed off. "And if so, are we going to allow Lucinius to eliminate him for the mere act of stepping foot on New York soil, if that's the case?" As if the death of Marcos didn't complicate life enough, Will's return just came and made everything worse. Zaire wasn't against killing Will for returning to New York, simply because even if he hadn't killed Marcos, he was still a threat. A loose cannon. His presence made Zaire feel uneasy, as if the entire clan was at risk. However, with the power dynamics up in the air, killing off a member of a rival clan and justifying it with possibly] fictitious moral ammo seemed perfectly timed for the clan desperately grasping onto power. Even if Will wasn't an ideal clan member, removing a clan member in any sense weakened the clan, and he wouldn't have been surprised if the Lucinius were focused on that. If the Ventari clan practiced appeasement and let them take Will out because it affected them minimally, and in a good way at all given the peace of mind that would come with his death, who's to say that Lucinius wouldn't turn around and start slowly and meticulously eliminating members of their clan next?

While opinions on Marcos differed, no one could deny that he at least maintained some sort of balanced moral court. Only two weeks six feet under, and everything he had established was being tossed out the window with this idea of murdering a vampire with little evidence. It left Zaire feeling unsettled. "Have you spoken with Kante? You know, privately? Do you think you could get it out of him whether Will did it or not? It may be in our best interest to play both sides of the field here... if we look at this from a long term perspective." As the saying went, keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.
