I will always remember that time in Dresden Files where my character - who just so happens to be half-phoenix because a phoenix lent him her powers - was kidnapped and placed on the top of a skyscraper in Paris. I thought it would be a good idea to attempt a concentrated beam of light to try and hit the enemy who was behind me. Instead, I failed the throw miserably and my power exploded, thus exploding the roof of the skyscraper. As I plummeted to my doom, I then decided it would be a good idea to open my phoenix wings, which have more or less a two meter span and are huge, and blast my self off of a piece of debris to fly away. I blew up the front of the skyscraper instead. Later, in order to escape from the police helicopters, I decided to close my wings in mid air and force a landing on the roof of a building. That worked out. Then I threw strength to get through the steel door that impeded me from entering, and I got such a good throw that I lodged it into the concrete wall. Then a partner came to rescue me but since I counted as a magical creature, my magic made the elevator stop working and we got stuck in it mid escape. Dice can really fuck you up.
