Is this offer still available, old friend? :)

Depends! I have a strong, stable 1x1 going on off-site, one RP sort of in hiatus, and one going, but I miiight be open to something new!

Well I'll leave it to your initiative then - if you find yourself craving another RP please check out my interest check I posted yesterday :)
I think I might try to find one more RP, be it a group or 1x1. Most of my favorite people are so busy lately!
Looking for the right RP opportunity, but everything seems too casual or dark. =[

Sometimes I like futuristic- it really depends on how much it relies on science and tech. =)

The basic plot revolves around the creation of teleportation devices which puts the other transport industries out of order. As such, they strive to survive by making themselves into more touristic attractions. The roleplay would focus on the staff working on a train
I think I need a new RP. Something with a decent pace, preferably, not fandom, and without an all-teenager character cast!

I like RPs where I get a couple paragraphs per post.I also enjoy the fantasy, supernatural, superpowers, futuristic, or historical fiction genres. Not sure what other requirements I have!

Awesome, that is good to hear. February is just around the corner. As for RPs, lol. It would be nice to wave a wand and say 'presto' right? What are you looking for on RPs? Just a long, realistic, adventure? Fantastical? Sci-fi? I will admit I don't find a lot of those around, if you are.

I traditionally like supernatural, superhero, fantasy (urban, high, or low)- something along those lines! I've found RPs on RPN before, and I'm in a couple now besides my own, but I see myself having fundamental differences both in my RPs and looking for others. That's not to say what others are looking for are wrong, or what I am looking for is wrong, but it just always feels like a struggle. Every few months I come back to this and just think... "Maybe I need a break? Buy a new game to play? Try a new format?"

Hm, no, what you're feeling is very fair. I know what you mean. You don't exactly want to bash other roleplays, but they're not on the same wavelength usually, of what you want? Like you'd need to create your own roleplay to reach that particular itch you're feeling. We are similar in that regard. I'm t the point where I can't join an RP I haven't made myself. Those that I want to make RPs so I can join...don't want to, lol. It's a conundrum.
I'm starting to think what I like, want, and expect out of a RP is just incompatible with most of the site. =(

I appreciate it! It is struggling a bit, as most RPs do, with people remaining faithful to posting. If it falls apart it won't be any fault of yours, I promise.

It's a shame. This is assumption but I felt the compatibility would've been there. Hopefully this doesn't mean you will leave the site altogether I do hope?

I'm going to see how things go. I left the site a while back for a year and a half or so when I had my second son but came back, so even if I do, it doesn't necessarily mean forever by any means!
The most captivating characters are the poor, the ugly, the lame, the ordinary, and the unassuming because more often than not people focus on the rich, the highly intelligent, the socially adept, the beautiful, the tragic, and the gifted. To see someone take a risk, to play something different and perhaps slightly hobbled, is thrilling!

the bigger problem is finding conflict. Proper conflict is harder to find on more "gifted" characters, to generalize, which results in the fact that in such an improvisational medium as roleplay, you can hardly take the chance. It takes a partner who either compliments you extraordinarily well or one which can foreplan with you well enough that more intricated character arcs can go without too much interference.

I find people that play the extraordinary characters (that are gifted in many aspects) have a hard time "losing" too. I have a good friend that I do an off-site RP with that we have very powerful characters... and we argue about who gets to lose in a battle. I want to lose because I think his character is awesome, he thinks mine is superior. If you find a conflict and the person is just as okay with winning as losing latch onto them forever!

I will never be able to get over your more than perfect like-to-post ratio.

Haha, there are people with much better ratios! I think most of the likes come from my "Introduction to Forum Role-Plays" tutorial. I love tutorials. =(
I will be launching a detailed RP (lore leavy, 2+ paragraph posts) that some of you might remember, Psydrium, in the next month or so. Please let me know if you'd like an invitation to the RP. My hope is to create a friendly RP atmosphere focused on both slightly absurd characters and their mundanes [players] that tempers serious stuff with silliness.

I always love characters (and RPs that allow characters) that are older. I need to find a home for my widow character someday!

Haha, I'm not into creepy characters so much but I like having chances to play characters closer to my age. ;)
I'm so frustrated by this tag system (specifically the lack of prefixes) I don't know how it will be possible to make new RP friends or find new ventures. And since I know that's not open to discussion (the prefixes) I'm open for suggestions on how to find things before I walk away. I want to invest in the community, it just feels so exponentially harder now. And I was a big cheerleader for changes, I really was, but this significantly impacts my navigation. Am I alone here? How are other detailed RP folks coping? How are you able to find things? Or are you struggling too?

With all due respect, I disagree. Lots of labels are subjective- like genres. Urban fantasy could be in either fantasy interest checks or modern. I understand the desire to remove elitism, but I think it makes as much sense to remove prefixes as it does to tell people, "Hey, genres are so subjective we're not going to label those anymore." You're not helping people find what they want, you're just making it that much harder. Instead of simplifying the process, you're putting an onus on the user/player to spend more time trying to find what they want.

My personal goal is to spend most of my time RPing, you know? The purpose of the site is to connect people with similar ideas, expectations, and values for a RP. When you take away the tools they use to identify others, it can breed frustration. You can't force people to suddenly like a genre and I think it's sort of the same for writing expectations. People just like what they like. And when you make it murky, with a bunch of people all expecting different stuff coming together, ignorant of those differences, they'll be upset.

I get they weren't perfect prefixes. I get that. I'm just looking for advice other than "message everyone individually to ask what their post expectations and rules are" or "hope people get better with tags." I'm hesitant to join anything at this juncture because it's all so unclear so rather than post on a lot of threads quizzing folks, I'm apt to walk away and find alternatives. I'm just not sure what those alternatives are!

I see what you mean. :) If they don't specify and I'm not REALLY into, then I do just walk away from the role play. But if it's something that I REALLY like, then I do usually take the time to ask them. And it's always great when they state their requirements.

Hey, Syrenrei!  I honestly could never trust the roleplay prefixes, which is why I never used the interest check forums before all of the changes.  I always found new roleplays and writers through my connections.  That's how I found you!  For me, one roleplay always leads to another.  It's not perfect, and it doesn't work every time, but I find it to be much more efficient than the interest checks.
I like the update, but I miss prefixes. =/ I can't find the motivation to read all these interest checks without any clue as to post requirements, since that is just as much as a deciding factor for me as genre!

"Hey, what are your post requirements?"

"Sorry, I can't tell you that because there isn't a prefix."

    X3

In seriousness though, people will learn to put that sort of thing in their tags.
