I don't think anyone sees it as a competition. And part of finding someone compatible is how good their writing skill is.

Experienced writers want to write with people who can match their skill in a lot of cases. Everyone's writing is measured to a degree.

When someone talks about being an advanced or semi-advanced writer but their writing clearly shows that they are not.
