Viewpoint What makes you nope out of a search thread?

I'm not into Omegaverse stuff or anything even close to anthro/lycan/furry and so on. But... well, I am a little troubled with people bashing each others' fandoms.
 
This might sound a little Elitist but whenever i'm grazing through interest checks, through experience I tend to just ignore those that have multiple, singular phrases/replies - as in:

"Interested"

"This sounds cool"

"Count me in"

Whilst I completely agree that it's basically me pre-judging people but I don't think it's entirely without cause. Been involved in many group RPs that have quickly fallen apart because of cliché, uninteresting and border-line overpowered "Lazily made" characters from people that come and go like the wind. The same kind of folk that i've noticed write "Interested" and little else on interest checks. - Not to say that all people make crappy characters but my personal interest gets raised upon seeing in-depth conversations in the Interest check and it gradually disappears upon seeing pages upon pages of vague commitment.

Agree! That doesn't sound elitist to me. I think if someone is interested in writing together, they're going to have more to say than just interested. Interested in......what exactly? A banana?
Yeah, I've had people respond in a similar way on past interest checks I have had which tells me absolutely nothing.

Why would I want to do that? They messaged me for something on my request thread, I'm not here to play Scooby Doo and find out what they want to do.

Aye, it's a big indicator for me to figure out who's genuinely interested and those that are "Along for the ride." Furthermore, reading through people's responses to the interest check helps me work out the kind of atmosphere I might be joining. Will my fellow characters be chilled out, mature and reliable or will they be a bunch of single-liners, Master-Chief wonna-be's and/or emotionally unstable clichés.

It's a universe that assumes humans have three genders based on "canine" physiology and social structure. (It's not actually how any canine species interacts but w/e it's a fantasy trope). So the idea is that there are three genders. The genders are Alpha, Beta, and Omega.

Alpha are the aggressive and dominant gender who seem to have the more traditionally "masculine" role in their society.
Betas are the even tempered diplomats of the world and are usually just side characters in the stories I've seen. They don't have an equivalent gender IRL.
Omegas are the submissive and maternal gender who seem to take on the more traditionally "feminine" role in their society.

Alphas and Omegas mate for life like dogs. Omega can be male or female. And both sexes have children. So you can have homosexual pairings that can have natural children as long as one of the people is an Omega.

I believe female Betas and female Alphas can theoretically have children but their fertility rate is lower.

tl:dr it's a way for people who like strict power dynamics to have mpreg.

Yep, that's what I read basically, except with more descriptions of how procreation works and a special horror called "heat".

Yeah it can get pretty graphic. I think my favorite versions of the world are the ones that treat it like a metaphor for rigid gender roles and societal pressure to conform.
 
Huge "nope" for me is the "Requirements: Must be of this and that age" and the reasoning "because i want my partners to be mature/I am uncomfortable if I roleplay with younger people"

In some cases, I understand it, but then, sometimes, I see 18 year olds stomping around like a peacock on mating day and be like "Ayy, lmao, no kids here. Must be 18+" Andthat makes me think... 17year olds are younger than 18 year olds... in which case, congratulations, you don't want to roleplay with your own age group. Aren't you mature. Not only is it most likely the case that you are no where near mature if you write that in your thread, it also shows that you are a massive butt who thinks once you turn 18 you are part of a secret society called "adults", which just makes you look more immature.

I get it when the person writing it is like, I dunno, 24 or something around that age, even though you're maturity doesn't exponentially rise with your age, but whatever.

Also, big no no for me, "I'd say I'm lit to advanced lit and I want my partner to be lit, at least."
It took me so much time to figure out what lit even means (might just be my small brain, as you may have noticed, my writing isn't too lit either (yes in both ways), but nothing keeps me from a good 5Am rant).
When I finally found out it meant literate, i rolled my eyes and cringed the last bit of nostalgia out of my brain.
Since when did everyone turn into a sassy b-word? Who the hell says that they are advanced literate? I remember people who are considered advanced literate by today's standards being like "Yeah, I can write a bit" back in the days.
Now, everyone who can write 5 paragraphs that have a considerable length is literate? Nah fam, ain't having it.
Try to be a bit more humble, say how much you can write, tend to write, but don't go out there and be like "YAA. MY PARAGRPAHS ARE PARA-PACKING. ADV. LIT GANG, STAY WOKE." Humble. Say "I can write pretty much/I tend to write more, maybe ??? to ??? paragraphs. I would consider my writing to be more on the good side."
Self-esteem and confidence and all that stizzle I don't have is great and all, but please don't turn it into a lance that keeps people away who might not think so highly of themselves.

I feel like I just made a bunch of enemies, but that was worth it. I feel a lot better now. Needed to get this out.

Really big agree on this lol.
Any time I see someone going on and on about how great their writing is in a search thread I am out.
It's one thing to say factual things like "I have good grammar, good spelling and I tend to write x amount" but when people go on and on it's a huge turn off.
And I'm not a fan of all these weird terms either. There's no definable standard for anything except one-liners... and that's only because one-liners are self explanatory. One persons idea of "literate" is another persons idea of "advanced literate" is probably a different persons concept of "novella."
It's why I always go by word count in my own posts to give a general idea of how much I write. That is a measurable number, not a loosey-goosey term.
Of course I don't have any problem with people who use these terms (I know a lot of people grew up in RP's with them), but to me they don't really mean anything.

I've been browsing through search threads for fun lately and a couple things jumped out at me that had me instantly clicking away.
- Threads that are titled with "plots inside" or anything relating to having "plots" but the actual content of their search thread is just pairings (ie. blahblah x blahblah). I'm sorry, but that is NOT a plot lol. A plot requires a basic suggestion of a story, not just a laundry list of pairings. Anyone who clickbaits like this is someone I assume doesn't actually know what a plot is so I tend to skitter away immediately.

- Threads with just one or two lines in them. If I don't have a basic overview of you as a writer I'm outta there. Search threads are kind of like resumes, and if someone hasn't seemed to put any effort into it my assumption is that this may likely extend to their writing in general.

- Threads with extremely condescending/demanding language when it comes to what they want in a writing partner. I don't see this a ton, fortunately, but occasionally I'll run into a search thread where the poster has incredibly narrow restrictions laid out for the person they're looking for. It's totally fine to be picky, but when there's a list a mile long of do's and don'ts I feel there's a problem. Roleplaying should be a collaborative effort and if I have the feeling that the person is going to be difficult to work with/abrasive/overly controlling I'm gone in a flash.
 
1. Whenever someone talks about the characters as YOU and ME. (ex. I am a barista and you’re my cute as heck boss). It just feels weird to me, and I’ll immediately exit the thread.

2. Fandoms. I do not at all meant that there’s anything wrong with roleplaying fandoms, but that’s not just something I’m super familiar with. If the thread has a list of 20+ fandoms, I just think that they might not be the best perfect match for me, and messaging them would only waste both of our time.

3. Attitude / no personality. For me, it is really important to kind of ”click” with the person I write with, and I quickly exit out of threads where the writer seems more like a mechanical robot listing rules and expectations.

While I admire roleplayers that have a firm grasp of grammar and orthography they tend to intimidate me a lot if their requirements include that I am one as well.
No hate, I actually wish I could be more like ya'll <3

I am really advanced, but I'll happily play with someone even if they throw a typo now and then or their sentence structure is off. And if you are using the word 'orthography', I would happily play with you! Have faith.

Wtf, does the sex of your writing partner really matter? I can easily say I'm a male, female, or a plant, or a toaster... and still write the same. That and we can't see each other so such a requirement is kind of... silly, especially since RPN allows us to hide our preferred sex.
