Viewpoint What makes you nope out of a search thread?

I'm not *against* Discord, I use it pretty regularly for other stuff, but I don't really like using it for OOC, mostly just because I think making a thread on RPnation works fine, and also because it complicates things for people that don't have it. Either people can't join a RP because they don't have it, or there's a discord and a RPnation thread and it gets confusing because information is spread across two places.

I once joined a roleplay that died because the gm forgot to make announcements in the rpn ooc thread because they had already done them on discord.

Oh heah, I just remembered another thing that really turns me off.

If the title is just something like "School RP" or "Magical Werewolf RP".

Like, jeez man at least try to come up with a title. It's not that hard.

Got another one: When OP has BBcoded all the info into a tiiiiiiiny box. Extra nope points for using semi-illegible fonts.

When people write plots as if they (and their reader) are the characters.

So it's a lot of - You and I do [plot related things]. Or You have had a crush on me for the last few years and are finally ready to tell me.

It just creeps me out because it feels like they don't understand the difference between the player and the characters.

When the search thread is less than a paragraph that gives no clear understanding of the person as a roleplayer, what they honestly are looking for, or interests we might share.

Honestly, I have no idea if this is just something a lot of people would agree on, but I don't really want to role-play a story that's meant to be written as a book. I'm not talking about novela role-play. I mean when the search thread has "this story will be made a book", or something along those lines.
Thanks for letting people know, that's actually nice of you, but I want nothing to do with it.

I'm not in to pairings. I don't fully understand them and don't want them. I kind of feel like when people only have pairings in mind, they're only going to focus on the dynamic between those two characters. I like being able to have minor characters, npcs, and weird in-between beings for my character to interact with and grow on outside of your character. So, I dip out of a search thread if all they have are pairings.

I don't think my gender, age, occupation, or sexuality is something I want to share with a potential writing partner at first, if at all. This isn't poking at anyone specifically, and I understand why a lot of people place these limits up, but I won't stay on a search thread long if any of that is required for me to write with someone.

Claiming sole authority over whether my character lives or dies, whether I want them to die or not. Too close to godmodding for my liking. My character, my decision is how I feel about it.

Oh hey this RP looks coo-

"AND THE NERD SHOULD DATE THE JOCK AT THE END OF THE ROLEPLAY WHILE THE POET SHOULD BE IN A POLY RELATIONSHIP WITH THE NEW KID AND THE GANGSTER"

How nice of you to determine the ending of the roleplay already, Karen. Nope.

When the request thread says:

"I'm a picky person to write with."

"I'm hard to write with."

"I'm selective in who I choose to write with me."

Okay so you like detail and don't favor less than that. One liners or destroyed grammar isn't your thing, if all of this is outlined in your rules no need to say you're a hard person to write with because in instances I've seen as well as experienced some people that have said that have turned out to be more of a headache than it really is worth. When I looked for partners I skipped over those RTs immediately.

Rampaging hatred for OCs. I'm not talking about coming across a polite 'canon charactrers only, please' or something—we like what we like. But I have seen request threads in a few places where someone has heaped some pretty serious derision upon OC, even one that said 'All OCs are Mary Sues, keep your self insertions in the drawer with your other toys'.

Ah.

Well then, yes, keep them in your drawer. And maybe get a hobby.
Those sorts of toys are fine to have; my objection was to that player being soooo damned dismissive of OCs. I have seen OCs that just knocked my socks off with how intricately and beautifully-crafted they were.

Interesting responses thus far.

I do have things I am interested in and things, I'm sure, others are interested in. I'm okay with our needs/wants not always coinciding. I think that's somewhat the beauty of choice and the huge influx of different styles and interest points on RPNation, whether you're completely open-ended or have certain desires/cravings/preferences.

I don't have many hard-passes but I think my main one is omegaverses followed by fandoms. I think omega-verses are too out there and not my cup of tea. Plus I'm not really a huge fan of furries (and I don't consider lycans to be 'furries').

I'm also not really a fan of fan-doms (no pun intended). I think, as a concept, it's cool and it's fun at times; however, I guess I'm more interested in something more original (albeit trope-ish in other ways).

Yeah, I don't feel like clicking links today.

I'll just assume it's a universe in which the user The_Omega_Effect has finally killed and insulted everybody.
