Over time, the world has had its fair share of oddities. None of them were as odd as the monsters and beings you hear about in stories living right next door to you though. In the past, these beings were hidden away in plain sight from the world by an organization known as “The Magisters' Roundtable”. The year is 2018, and the world has changed so much. The Roundtable had managed to integrate the empowered after finding a way for both the humans and supernatural to work and make society better. A power move made by the Roundtable that kept society from suffering from an economic crisis was made, and the price was to allow the supernatural to inhabit the land safely and be given the same rights as the people. There were, of course, a few extra laws that applied to them, as they all aren’t exactly human. Accepting of the laws placed upon them, the empowered that were in hiding for so long proved to the humans that they were capable of coexisting.

Tall tales, myths, legends both urban and not, for many years they were thought to be fiction and superstition; however, now we know they were not but a veil of misdirection that had persisted for thousands of years. The source of this veil was the Magisters’ Roundtable, an ancient organization made up of human spellcasters and friendly empowered races. Through the organization’s efforts, those touched by the supernatural could live relatively normal and safe lives for countless generations, twisting potential breaches in their secrecy into opportunities to create skepticism. However, over time there were a few notable slip-ups that changed into long-lasting mythologies, religions, and folk tales.

With the turn of the 19th century and the industrial revolution, the organization was given several hurdles to overcome with the advancing of technology and accelerating rate at which information traveled, having to recruit and train more spellcasters to keep up with the rate at which the educated, perceptive populace of normal humans grew. By the 20th the Magisters’ Roundtable had infiltrated a majority of news companies and fed the public lies and slander in order to hide the supernatural side of the world and throughout the century they “debunked” many claims of unnatural/otherworld beings and events, even going as far as to pull the strings to start the world wars, subsequent cold war, and caused several other events to keep focus away from their charges.

At the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries, the Roundtable saw the changes humanity was taking upon itself and started to have a change in heart. In wake of the age of the internet upon them, the Magisters decided it would be easier to step out of the shadows before it was too late. Biding their time, the Roundtable informed everyone protected by them, helping them prepare, and preparing strongholds that could resist the modern weaponry of humanity in case the worse happened, but it never came to that due to the Magisters’ timing. During 2007 an economic crisis occurred that gave the Roundtable the opportunity to not only safely reveal the existence of the supernatural, but make it one of the new supporting pillars of modern society.

Now, eleven years later, humanity has come to peace with itself and for the most part, accepted it's supernatural bedfellows. The year is 2018, many social reforms have been made as supernaturally inclined humans and other species have taken to openly living with the rest of the world. The supernaturally inclined were titled the “empowered” and given different ID than the rest of the world and had to go through several tests and licensings in order to be allowed to use their powers. Our story takes place in King County, Washington, following the normal and not so normal lives of our characters whether they be a supernatural race, empowered human, or simply a random normal joe going about their life in this world now changed from the one we know, with companies run for, by, and or against the empowered, families being able to reveal their powers after generations of studying and hiding them, and Magisters now able to do as they please since they’re no longer needed in order to keep the empowered a tightly guarded secret.

"Hello hello, H-E-L-L-Oooooo Seattle, today is Monday, June 11th, and it's 12:30 pm. Currently, it's 68 degrees out there, with a low of 53 tonight and a high of 71! It's gonna be a moody one out there today, ranging from partly to mostly cloudy and a 50% chance of precipitation, so keep your umbrella's with you folks. In case any of you forgot, which is unlikely, amirite, it's an hour and a half, 90 minutes, until the after rush hour. Now not to keep my loyal listeners waiting any longer, it's time for 30 minutes of uninterrupted music. See you on the flip side."

The radio station starts flooding rooms across Seattle with music from the past twenty years, and with both private and public school had let out for summer last week and the youths of the city were either out enjoying life or working like their adult peers. Traffic jams still hours away, it would still be straightforward getting anywhere without too much complication. The day is young, get out there!

[[RP is now open for posting!]]

Eld
Walking down the semi populated street of Tacoma in the industrial portion of town, Eld reached into his pocket and pulled out a pair of wireless headphones and connected them to hisphone as he checked an address on the screen, quickly ducking through a number of back alleys before reaching a warehouse side door with a man of Hispanic decent with heavy tattoos standing outside the door. Seeing Eld approach, he stepped to the side and silently passed him a roll of bills. Pocketing the bills, Eld opened the door and stepped inside, his eyes quickly adjusted to the dim light inside. with a couple taps on his phone, music began to play a mixture of pop and electronic. walking a short way into the depths of the warehouse, he reached a grizzly scene, looking down he found two bodies in a massive pool of blood, each one riddled with a number of bullet holes. checking the time on his phone, he thought to himself that he likely had about 2 hours before the cops would finally decide to roll up. the cops already knew what happened, the calls to 911 came in almost immediately after the men had died late last night. but a bit of money from the local gangs helped to keep them away for a number hours, and if there was nothing to find once they got to the ware house, then there would be no issue, would there.

Stepping into the blood, Eld reached down and flipped open the flap on the laptop case slung around his shoulder. inside were a number of vials and flasks neatly lined up. shuffling around with the flasks for a bit, he pulled out a flask filled with a black sludge like substance. Uncorking the flask, he poured a little out on each body, and after a couple of seconds, the air was filled with a hideous sizzling sound, watching for a brief second as the bodies were melting in a disgusting manner as if made of plastic into a puddle of nothing but blood. walking towards the wall of the warehouse, leaving bloody footprints behind him, he silently inspected a couple bullet holes as music continued to pound through his headphones. reaching once more into his bag, he pulled out a vial of grey powder and one filled with clear liquid. Pouring some of the grey powder onto his index and middle fingers, he then dripped a couple drops of the clear liquid onto it, forming a grey paste. reaching for the holes, the tips of his fingers ignited with a magical flame. Rubbing the paste against the metal walls of the warehouse, they became soft and malleable as if like putty. rubbing the bullet holes in the wall together to no longer exist, his fingers flashed with an intense burst of flame, burning off the rest of the grey paste. reaching once more into his bag, he pulled out a bag of white powder. taking a pinch-full, he blew it against the wall and watched as it clung there for a second. about 30 seconds later, he pulled a water bottle out of his bag and sprayed it against the powder, washing it off the wall. although it wasn't perfect, the powder absorbed nearly every trace of magical essence it touched and conveniently dissolved in water, the traces with it. walking back to the bodies, which had finally dissolved into a massive pool of blood, he pulled out a red orb. crushing it, he threw the powder out across the pool of blood and watched as it "sprouted" and began sucking up the blood and forming a massive cobweb like structure across the floor, absorbing even the bloody foot prints left behind by Eld walking through the blood. after the cobweb of blood finally finished expanding, he summoned a tiny flame and cast it against one thread of the cobweb. instantly the entirety of the cobweb burned away as into nothing, leaving nothing behind, not even an oder, once more reaching into his bag, he pulled out the powder that removed magical traces, and after aging it a bit with flame magic to look like common dust, he blew it around the room, removing every trace of him using magic. finally, he pulled out one one final vial filled with a green gaseous substance. holding his breath, Eld uncorked the vial and the green gas expanded throughout the room, eliminating all other traces of evidence from the prior murders.

Walking out of the warehouse, Eld slowly walked back towards his car, pausing his music and disconnecting his headphones and returning them to his bag. getting into his car, he started the engine, and watched as a police cruiser drove past in the direction of the warehouse. by then the gas would have been dissipated, and there would be no traces of the crime. putting his car into gear, Eld pulled out into traffic and started the hour long journey back to Seattle. he had nothing else planned for the day so perhaps he would take a little time off from research and walk around the emerald city for a bit.

Daniel Kim
(20/Gumiho/Tags: N/A)

The sun shone through a small break in the clouds, directly through Daniel's apartment window and, by happenstance, onto his resting face. His once peaceful sleep had been rudely interrupted by the forces of nature. With a groan, he threw his sheets off the edge of the bed and, all but gracefully, rolled himself onto the floor, all 9 tails poking up into the air like 9 silvery-grey flags. At least this time he remembered to set his alarm from beeping to the local radio station.

A yawn. A stretch. A groan. This is how Daniel's days usually started. Monday mornings, however, were especially brutal. At least he didn't have uni today. That was some kind of grace. He didn't bother making coffee or eating breakfast. He could do that a bit later while he was setting up the cafe for work. "Cherry Cafe", Seattle's favourite coffee shop, or so the slogan went.

He checked his pockets haphazardly. Phone, wallet, keys. All there. The radio said that it would be a chilly 53, so his favourite, grey hoodie was added to his inventory. The radio had also mentioned rain, but Daniel didn't really mind a drizzle. The dusty umbrella remained in the bedroom corner. The smell of toast and bacon assaulted his nose as he walked into the communal hallway of the apartment. he nearly regretted his choice to leave on an empty stomach.

Stepping onto the street, it still felt weird to be accepted into human society the way he was. Being half human, he always received some lee-way compared to full-blooded empowered, but he was so used to shapeshifting his ears and tails into backpacks and baseball caps that he felt almost naked without the mirage on. He still received odd looks from human passers-by who found his appearance astonishing. Once, a little girl asked if she could pet him, like a puppy. Her mother, of course, admonished her for being rude, but Daniel hadn't minded. In fact, he had knelt down to make it easier for the child. He enjoyed the attention.

The cafe was open and ready for the lunchtime rush by the time he arrived.

An apron. A cup of coffee. A slice of french toast. Dae-Hyul Kim was ready to start the day.

Alejandro Moretti
Interacting w/: No one

Mood: Calm

Activity: Going for a walk

Objective: Enjoy his afternoon

Two men, one of them being Alejandro, sat down in front of a small store, having just walked out from it, "Do you even like beer?" Alejandro's friend had asked, as Alejandro grabbed the can and opened it, gulping it down as if he hadn't drunk anything all so far. "It's not a go to, but it can be refreshing when cold." He responded, before drinking the rest of it. "Besides, it's not like we're on the clock or anything. I've been working nonstop and if I really wanna go day drinking, I deserve it." He added as he cheeks flushed a soft pink. He was a total lightweight, but good thing it was only just a beer. If it had been something stronger, he'd have already been drunk. Looking around for a trashcan, Alejandro asked his friend, "You know what I mean, right? They work us to death. Sure there's a lot of cash in working the longer shifts, but still." As Alejandro finished talking, he found a trashcan, taking the shot and making it. His friend then took a seat next to him, chuckling a little as he did so. "Yeah, you're right. I do have my family to get home too, so I can't do any major day drinking. If you want a night drink though, I'm just the guy." And with that, they both laughed, before Alejandro reached out his hand, asking for another beer. "Nope. You're a complete lightweight, and that girlfriend of yours might not tolerate you coming home drunk. That being said, I'll hold on to these." His coworker said, shaking his head before the two continued their conversation.

After sitting talking for a few extra minutes the two split. Alejandro hadn't taken into account what Astrid would think of him being drunk so early in the day. Even if they didn't actually stay together, he did speak to her on a daily basis, and they would often meet up. Walking the street, now alone, Alejandro began to wonder what she was even up to. Both of them are inquisitors, so maybe she was doing something for the Roundtable. shaking his head, he sighed and continued to focus on what was in front of him. It was a nice day, and so far, there wasn't anything happening. He had the day off from his job as a park ranger, and the Roundtable hasn't contacted him about any empowered or supernatural going berserk in the city. Kicking a small pebble as he walked the broken sidewalk, he sighed. Today was necessarily boring, but for it to be one that was even more enjoyable, he was hoping something would happen. Any day, no matter how nice could be even better in his opinion, and while he was up for a little mischief or getting on Astrid's nerves, it wasn't planned, so it wasn't going to happen.

Mal Mizushima
Interacting with: Roman Roman

Being surrounded by fresh coffee, cake, and people quietly doing their own thing was probably Mal's favorite thing about her job. People alone doing their own thing but never actually alone. She worked behind the counter today; All she had to do was work the register, wash the dishes, socialize a little bit with the customers and that's about it. To be fair, she was usually always behind the counter, occasionally having to step in and help serve the customers who were seated. She had to work in the back and help out with the food once...once. It was a complete disaster, really. Mal couldn't cook to save her life and had managed to burn a grilled cheese sandwich to the point it could be used to knock someone out and broke the spatula trying to pry it off of the stove. Thankfully the manager was understanding about the whole thing and decided to keep her out front from that point on instead of kicking her to the curb.

"Hello?" Mal turned away from the sink full of dishes and made eye contact with the customer in front of the register, she'd seen her come here a few times, not enough to consider her a regular though. "Welcome back, how can I help you?" She asked as she dried of her hands with a towel. "Can I get just a coffee to go please?" Mal set the towel aside. "Sure, would you like anything in it? creamer, sugar, milk...?" "No no, just plain will be fine." She nodded and rang up her coffee, taking the 5$ bill and giving the customer the proper change. Printing out the receipt, she tore it off and handed it over. "Your coffee should be out soon, feel free to sit down while you wait." "Oh no, I'll go ahead and wait here if that's alright" Mal just nodded in response, as long as she didn't stand in the way of other customers she was fine with it. She looked out the window and at the sky, there were definitely some clouds. She pressed her lips together, dreading the thought of having to walk home in the rain. She should have brought an umbrella after all. "Don't like the rain?" Mal blinked and looked at the woman, "Huh? Oh no, it's not that. I just don't think I remembered to bring an umbrella. I usually walk home from work." She explained before turning at the sound of the bell being rang, signifying that the coffee was ready to go. Mal picked up the paper cup from the window and turned, extending the beverage out to the customer. "Your coffee, Ma'am." "Oh please, call me Lana, and here, take my umbrella" Lana took the coffee and placed the umbrella on the counter, not giving Mal much time to refuse the offer. "Dont you-?" "Oh my look at the time, it was nice to see you dear but I'm afraid I have to go, bye~" And just like that the woman left, leaving her umbrella behind. Mal just smiled and set it behind the counter, both confused and grateful for the umbrella. Hearing the bell on the door ring, she quickly brushed away the confusion and looked over at the new customer. "Welcome, let me know when you're ready to order."

Robin - ♦︎ - Human Witch, Uni Student - Tags: Daniel Kim ( Yushin Yushin )

Robin has been awake to hear the rattling off of the day’s stats from her family’s radio, though less productive than she usually would have been. She had initially decided that she would spend the whole day in bed- uni had run her on the same schedule of nearly everyone else in the area, and now, at the start of break, she deserved to become nocturnal. Unfortunately after only a few minutes longer, her plans were interrupted by her own restless body. The young witch only groaned in protest and bared her teeth at the clock on her nightstand as she got up and dressed. She was clad in her usual attire- violet and black jacket, dark jeans, and her leopard-ear headphones. Sure it drew attention sometimes, but the girl usually shrugged it off. Her own feline friend certainly didn’t mind. Calling a quick greeting to her parents in the kitchen, Robin pressed play on her music.

Robin snatched her phone on her way out and turned it on briefly just to summon her familiar. The genie-like appearance of the transparent-purple-cat took only a second, and once out it floated to the ground and followed its owner just as it had in real life. “Morning, Ghost.” Robin greeted with a grin, eyeing shops they passed by. She had the intention of getting a part time job somewhere but nothing really seemed to catch her attention. Ghost, on the other hand, had started over to the closest local café in a dazed determination. Robin followed only steps behind, and glanced down to the spirit cat looking back up to her. She had to admit, the place looked nice, even just for a drink. Why the witch had never gone there before she didn’t know, since it really was close to her house. Perhaps it had come in while she was away? Coffee shops tended to appear like that.

The student tentatively pushed on the door with a ding and looked around as she entered. Robin didn’t bother to keep it open for Ghost since the cat had already floated back up to her shoulder, and upon finally making eye contact with the kid behind the counter, her mouth moved into a grin. Her wait in line was short, and when she finally did make it to the supernatural being taking orders the witch forgot to say her own. “Wow, hello! I didn’t expect to see a supernatural so early in the day.” Only after she spoke did she realise that it was not, in fact, early at all, or that what she said could have been seen as offensive. Robin blinked a few times before registering her previous movements and glanced behind her to luckily not see anyone else in line after her for the moment. Turning her head back so she could face the barista again, the dark haired girl scratched the back of her head. “Oh, uh, really sorry about that, you’ve probably been getting that a lot. I just... well, I’m a witch, and I’m really excited to see the change.” Her grin had changed to one that was more flustered. Ghost was merely floating with her ears pressed back, knowing full well just how long her owner could talk.

Hotei - ♠︎ - Cursed Dragon, Rock Shop Owner - Tags: open

Hotei grumbled under his breath as he walked a brisk pace on his way back to his store. Why, of all places, did he have to live in Seattle? He hated the rain with a passion, being a fire dragon and all, though he supposed that he had invested in his shop there with all the humans considered valuable. Washington was advertised as one of the better places for beings such as himself, yet his business was less than booming at the moment and he had no money to move.

Hotei had built up an empressive hoard of riches just as any well-mannered dragon did, however that was all the way back in Asia. He hadn’t considered that people would find it either, which they did, since with his humanized size he obviously couldn’t hold it all and his cave was not incredibly difficult to get to. Hotei had only gotten the chance to take the most prized of his hoard with him but it had diminished from his initial trek down the mountain and was reduced only further because of the need to sell stuff.

The only things he had now were kept in a locked chest in his basement- a measly little thing. He certainly couldn’t sell any of the rest of that either, and had since relied on the stones that his instincts brought him to. Unfortunately for him, the humans did not prioritise the riches as much as he did. Maybe the integration of the other supernaturals could help his livelihood? If not that, then Hotei supposed he would be good at appraising objects of interest...

The red-head snarled to himself at the thought, his hand angrily gripping the metallic clasp on his wrist. The metal glowed red with a surge of heat from his palm, but after a few minutes it hadn’t changed at all. This happened nearly every single day and the dragon had made little progress, even when his true form had returned to him. Instead of bursting like a normal shackle would have, it only grew with Hotei.

Giving a defeated sigh, Hotei dropped both arms down to his sides and gave up on returning to his shop for the moment. Sitting out here was far more productive than he could have been in there, so that’s exactly what he did. His candle-flame eyes flickered to a nearby bench and he sprawled himself out on it, laying with his legs on one end and his chin perched atop his knuckles.

The look on his face seemed to dare anyone to tell him to move.

Activity: Ordering a coffee

Objective: Get coffee and read his book
Summer break had started for all the students and Roman one was one them. Ever since the accident back in middle school, he's had a lot of time on his hands. His two best friends were gone. One passed away and Kaori had been taken to a facility outside of town, and he wasn't able to go visit due to how far away she had been taken... And that left him. His injuries weren't as bad, just a slashed up eye, but that was all fixed thanks to Masahi giving up his left eye for Roman to replace his damaged one with. It may have been years ago, but he still thinks of them. They were his first true friends after all, and in his opinion, no one could ever amount up to them. No one could ever get him to open up the same way they did. Lastly, no one could ever be his rival like Masahi was. Hopping out of bed, Roman got dressed, wearing what he usually wore on his free time. It was rather strange for someone his age to willing to wear a suit, but it was sort of his style, so he just went with it. Once he was finished freshening up, he made his way downstairs, waving goodbye to his sister, and grabbing his book.

Some time had passed, but Roman made a few stops on his way to the cafe. His first stop was in the morning, as he took some time to stop and read in the park. It was one of his favorite places to read. None of the people there bothered him, and he returned the favor by not bothering them. As he read, he also listened to a radio station, hearing about the current weather situation. He was unlucky in that light, as he didn't bring an umbrella. Getting up from his seat, his second stop was to stop at the small shop nearest to the cafe. Luckily enough, they sold umbrellas there. As he walked, Roman accidentally brushed against someone. This person just happens to attend the same school Roman does, and they were all too familiar with who he was. Pushing Roman, the student laughed and mocked him, "Not gonna do anything are you?" He said, laughing some more. The boy was also with a group of his friends, consisting of mostly the popular kids. Some girls and jocks... The usual. Roman shook his head no. "I'm not. There's no reason for me to stoop as low as I should to reach your level." Roman said in response to the boy's question. The boy then frowned, "You piece of...!" He said as he readied a punch, directed specifically for Roman's left eye. As a result of the boy's action, Roman swung his umbrella into the boy's hand and kicked him down. "Sorry." He said, before running off, clutching his book and umbrella so they wouldn't fall. The cafe wasn't far from here, so he was going to reach his destination pretty soon.

Roman soon made it to the cafe, having stopped running, and slowed back down to a walking pace. As he prepared to enter, there was a woman exiting, so Roman held the door for her. She thanked him and he nodded a response before stepping inside himself. Walking to the counter, Roman smiled to the girl working behind it before looking up at the menu. "Ah thanks, I'll just order now if that isn't a problem." He said, looking around a bit. "Are there any specials? " He asked before his gaze rested on the girl once more. "If there isn't, I'll just take vanilla latte." She probably didn't notice, but at this point, it was almost as if Roman was inspecting her. He wasn't sure if he had seen her before, which caught his attention and raised his curiosity.

Oof. Not even lunch yet and he was already receiving apologies. Not that he minded, of course. Just meant he had to come up with something sly to balance the equilibrium.

"Don't worry about it, miss. I thought it was the cat that was the supernatural and you were the familiar."

A subtle grin lifted the corners of his lips. "Why, now that I think about it, perhaps I was right? You know how cats are."

Once Mal got a good look at the customer, it wasn't hard to not recognize him. She'd noticed him around school many times, mostly because of his hair, odd but it suited him pretty nicely. She remembered someone pointing him out and saying his name once or twice, but she couldn't quite recall what it was off the top of her head. She nodded at his request, offering a smile as she looked at the piece of paper taped to the wall next to her, placing her finger on it and placing it on the Monday label before tracing over to the specials section. French kiss? Who the hell comes up with these names? There was no way she was going to say that out loud. "Our special today is a white coffee combined with vanilla creamer and a bit of white chocolate. I can get that for you if you'd like, unless you'd prefer your vanilla.... latte?" She stated as she looked back over to him, trailing off a bit as she now noticed his staring. Normally she'd be creeped out, but something told her that wasn't his intentions so all she did was stare back for a couple seconds before catching herself. Blinking a bit, she shuffled a bit to the register and rested her hands on both sides of it. "...Is everything alright, sir?" She wasn't used to being stared at, not at work at least, sure there was some eye contact with the customer here and there but it almost looked like she was being inspected by him.

Robin was relieved to hear that the boy- kitsune, she assumed?- was not bothered, however she quickly drew a hand to her chest in mock offense at the second part. “Well clearly I’m not the familiar! This sort of originality isn’t merely summoned after all.” The witch said coyly, taking a quick opportunity to glance over the menu again. Daniel’s comment about the cat, however, made Robin fake a gasp. “She can hear you, you know! She’s going to talk about that all day today.” The girl shot a teasing glance to the entity floating next to her, who had met the comment with a smug look. The cat was sitting on the counter now, though technically just floating above it.

Robin turned her head at the sound of the familiar bells on the door ring again and gave an awkward cough. “Oh, guess I should order, huh? Could I please have a small black tea to go?” Her joking atmosphere had quickly quieted down to a small, friendly smile as to not annoy the other customers.

Jaxton
Rubbing out the inside of a steamer mug, Jaxton looked at the crowded cafe before him. Because of the time it was just about the lunch rush, and being so close to the nearby college, even though it was slightly small (and probably a tad over priced), his shop was always packed around this time. Turning to glance at the register, he saw one of the new hires there, Jaxton remembered his name was Sam or something like that. He's one of the students at said college, and needed a summer job. Jaxton was happy to hire some of the students for help, most of them seemed like good kids. Hearing the order Sam had just taken called out, Jaxton started the espresso machine and began filling the steamer mug with milk as one of his other helpers, Karen, passed him two mugs with a layer of chocolate and caramel at the bottom. Sticking the steamer mugs under the spouts of the compressor portion of the espresso machine, hot steam began to shoot into the milk, frothing it and heating it up. As that happened, jaxton ran the espresso machine and two streams of espresso ran into the caramel and chocolate forming a dark fudge colored liquid. finally the milk had heated and pouring them into the serving mugs, all of it mixing together to form a creamy toffee colored liquid. placing them on the counter he called out to the floor,
"Two caramel mochas!"
Looking out over the floor, Jaxton saw a number of his other employees walk in to start their shift. looking over at the cashier, he told them he was heading out for a bit. thats the nice thing about owning a business, you can make your own hours on the fly. throwing on a jacket on his way out the back, Jaxton headed out into the alley behind his shop and out onto the crowded street. he didnt have anything planned for today, but didnt really feel like being in his cafe today. it was more of a pastime for him than anything after leaving the military.
Not really having any idea of where he wanted to go, Jaxton started walking in the direction of downtown, figuring something would eventually peak his interest if he did so.

Activity: Ordering a coffee

Objective: Get coffee and read his book, all while not seeming weird
As he stood there at the counter, inspecting the girl, it had occurred to him that she did, in fact, go to his school. What didn't click was her name. Despite being a familiar face, he wasn't too sure what her name could possibly be. Deciding it'd be best to not let it bother him, he simply went back to focusing on the menu. Unfortunately, it was too late for him as he was already caught staring. As he was told the special, he could see that she had begun staring back at him, and in response to her stares, he started to stare back. For a brief moment, his eyes met her's and that's when his awkward and nervous laughter kicked him, "H-Haha... Uh, yes. Everything's fine. I... I'm sorry for staring. You just looked so familiar." He said, rubbing the back of his head before looking all around the cafe. That was the weirdest situation he's ever found himself in, and he didn't often get into those.

"I'll just have the special. It sounds good." Roman said as he switched his book from one hand to the other. It was a habit that he had picked up on a while back, and he was hoping she hadn't noticed because he couldn't stop himself from doing so. "I hardly ever come here, do you need my name or anything? Some of the places usually ask for it." He asked, the book slowly coming to a stop in his right hand. Trying to avoid the awkwardness that he may have just caused for both of them, he continued to look away from her. It may have been rude to not make eye contact with someone, but since he had just looked her in the eyes a moment ago, he was shying away from doing it again.

This guy actually wasn't bad after all. From the outside he originally looked like he was some stone faced prick, considering she'd only ever really caught glimpses of him in the hallway for a few seconds at a time, but now he didn't seem like that at all. Not to mention she never really gave people the light of day, but at work it was a bit different, something about the cafe really calmed her and maybe that was why she wasn't as tense and moody as she usually was. She'd been working here for almost a year now so you could say she was used to it all, but the people were always different or at least the ones who were willing to say anything conversation wise were. She lightheartedly waved her hand as a gesture to not worry about it, it was partly her fault for staring back. At least he was polite about it.

Mal rang up his order, tapping the buttons and only glancing at his hands and the book for a split second before tapping the final button. "$2.57". She hummed a bit at his final question, usually they didn't take names and just had people hold onto the receipt as confirmation that it was their order, but this would be a good opportunity to hear his name. She laughed lightly, a bit of their earlier awkwardness showing. "It's not required, but it'd make the process easier if you were to tell me." She held up her name tag, swinging it a bit. "If it turns out I'm lying, you can report me".

Activity: Reading his book and waiting, whilst thinking

Objective: Get coffee and read his book
Roman was finally calm again, having completely gotten over the whole awkward aura that surrounded them from the little staring incident. It seemed like they were conversing more than anything else, so Roman was going to have to make this quick before someone else came into the cafe, or he got the girl in trouble with the manager or something. That absolutely would be a terrible first impression. Having still been looking away to avoid eye contact, when she told him the price, his mouth opened a bit before he turned to look at her, a smile forming as he did so. "Ah, here you go," Roman said as he took out a $5 and placed it on the counter, sliding it to her. The special was surprisingly cheap, which made him happy. The coffee also smelled pretty good too, leaving him with high expectations for what he was going to be given. When told that he didn't have to give his name, he chuckled a bit, nodding his head to show that he understood. "If it makes the process easier... Wouldn't hurt. My name is Roman... Ishida if you really want to put my last name there too." He told her, tucking his book under his arm. It had started to become a nuisance to hold in his hands, as he felt as if he would start playing with it again. "Report you? I wouldn't... Maybe I told you my name because I wanted you to know. They can't get upset with you because of that."

After finishing his statement, Roman took a step back, "I'll take a seat while I wait. It sounds like it'll take a couple minutes to prepare." Roman then turned around and walked towards a table, taking his book and placing it on the table, the umbrella was then leaned against the table and his jacket placed on the back of the chair he was about to take a sit on. Once he was all set, he smiled a soft smile and opened his book, continuing from where he left off from. For him reading was therapeutic. Helped his focus on better things in life. While everything had been good, there was always another happiness that he could only get from reading a good book, which easily made it a hobby of his, but the one thing he couldn't stop thinking about was not his coffee, but the girl preparing it.

Dan smiled. This girl knew how to take it AND dish it out. Truly, a worthy opponent.

"Black tea is all?" He rung up the order. "I'm gonna need your name and number miss".

Taking the money he slid over to her, Mal gave an appreciative nod, remaining silent as she listened to him speak. Roman Ishida. She mused, pushing a couple buttons on the register before it slide open and she put the bill into its rightful place. Now that she'd heard his name, she could recall having heard her classmates mention it once or twice. She couldn't remember what they said after that though, she had quickly lost interest in a lot of her classmates considering their personality's were vastly different her own. It didn't help that she was part demon too, somehow someone had discovered it and spread it around the school. A lot of people didn't care, seeing as how these days you never knew what kind of being could show up, but another chunk liked to gossip about it just because they could. Thus, she isolated herself from everyone and preferred to be in the comforts of the cafe, even if it was her job.

"Mm, you're right, they couldn't" Mal confirmed, watching as he took a step back. She listened as he excused himself, maybe spending a couple seconds too long watching him get set up. Was she starting to develop a habit of staring or something? Hopefully not, her mother often told her it was rude to stare and Mal took that information to heart considering who it was coming from. Shaking her head and recomposing herself she turned and focused on the task at hand. Brewing coffee was basically second nature to her at this point, and weirdly enough she took pride in being able to do it well. Now having freshly brewed white coffee, Mal filled an empty coffee cup half full of it, filling another 1/4 with vanilla creamer. While mixing the drink with one hand, she heated up some milk in another cup and placed a chunk of white chocolate in it, watching as it melted. Tossing the spoon (carefully) into the sink Mal took the milk/white chocolate mix and put it in the milk frother, waiting until the machine finished. Once she heard the whirring stop, she opened the container and poured the liquid into the coffee, mixing it once more. Satisfied, she placed the coffee cup onto a small plate and stepped out from behind the counter, making her way over to the silently reading boy. Placing the beverage on the table, Mal smiled, clearly pleased with her creation. "Your coffee, Roman."

She looked at the Empowered human standing there on the top of the building, fumes coming from her mouth. Her powers… well if she used them for the cause of chaos and evil that would be VERY bad for humans. Seraphina wiggled her fingers, unseen as she stood behind the woman. “Is this really truly what you want?”

“I want them to burn. I want those people too feel like a freak just like they made me feel.” The woman spoke into the air. Seraphina pouted, her wings fluttering in worry. “What poor children must be down there… being hurt… just like you…”

“I need to help them.” The woman whispered, acid tears trailing down her cheeks. Seraphina grabbed onto that. That glimmer of an idea the Empowered hadn’t thought of. “Help them.”

The woman froze and growled, her hands clenching. “This will help.”

“It won’t” Sera insisted, her hand clenching hard around the thought she was trying to get this woman to hold onto. She couldn’t force her mind to accept the idea… but maybe with some more guidance… The Roundtable trusted her to take care of this. This woman would destory that whole apartment building just to kill her abusive foster parents. Seraphine hoped that this act of good… maybe it was the one?

“It won’t… help?” The pull lessened… Sera opened her eyes. The Empowerd’s hands unclenched. “It won’t… save those children. Can’t save them behind bars or dead. Go help. Help them. Help them.” Sera’s wings fluttered as the pause in the air breathed for some moments too long.

“I… What am I doing?” Sera grinned, looking up… but nothing happened. Her smiled faded and she turned around, knowing the woman’s mind was on a different course now thanks to her guidance… Sera’s wings vanished, no longer on a mission for good. Great. Sera hopped down onto the fire escape ladders, climbing down the buildings as she took out the phone that connected her to her Roundtable supervisor. She pressed the call button, the tears already streaming down her face.

Yet another mission of AMAZING guidance and… nothing. She was still STUCK here! “She’s fine. It’s handled… and I’m still HERE!” She growled and whined into the voicemail box, a little sob sounding out. Seraphine looked up as the clouds wished past her. With no fake human school she would have to attend since she still looked so young in this world… her days were filled with helping those who the Roundtable thought she could. Those whose paths weren’t set.

"I thought you guys said that if I helped you enough then I would DEFINITELY get back home! I need better missions! I need to save more people and prove that I can be a GREAT AMAZING ANGEL!" She cried out, half screaming, half whining, all sobbing and throwing a tantrum as she stepped out into the road. When would she finally ever be able to go home?

Objective: Enjoy his book
Roman had been sitting at his table, silently reading his book. Having just started it, he found himself easily entranced with what had been happening so far. It was a good book from what he could tell, and some of the other students had suggested it to him, and out of annoyance, he read it, expecting little. As he read the book, he could hear his coffee being made in the back. Sounded like it was going to be something very interesting. A fresh new taste he hoped. A few moments later, Roman heard footsteps coming towards him. The sound of glass clanking against the table caused him to close the book and look up, his eyes meeting with the waitress' again. The smile on her face bringing one to his own. "Thank you." He said, inhaling, taking in the sweet aroma that is his coffee. "Wow, this smells amazing." Roman then picked up the cup by its handle, placing his other hand around the base of the cup.

There was something that clicked, causing Roman to stop before he actually took a sip. He then looked at his drink, taking his eyes off of the waitress and taking a look at his drink, only for his gaze to quickly dart back to her. "...I'm not sure if you're allowed to, but if you can, would you mind sitting with me? Business seems slow today, and a little conversation wouldn't hurt." Roman asked as he took his first sip of the coffee. "If it's too much to ask though, I completely understand." He told her, placing the cup down and smiling. "Oh and that's actually very good. What's it called?"

Eld
Driving through the back alleyways of Tacoma, Eld slowly headed back towards the main highway. Plugging in his phone he launched an app that tracked the movements of police vehichles. Accelerating down the street, he quickly racked up the traffic violations without the police around. Speeding around the corners he navigated the back streets as he got closer to the end of the industrial zone and began seeing signs for the main highway. Having this bit of fun is one of the few exciting things he gets to do not being on the crowded Seattle streets. However as he drifted around a corner, he saw a girl with blonde hair step out into the street in front of the front bumper of his car.
"Well shit"
Slamming on his brakes, Eld swerved the wheel to the left to try and avoid her, however it was too late, his front right end of his bumper slammed into the girl and sent her tumbling down the street. The car quickly decelerating, Eld put on his flashers and put the car in park before looking down the street. Seeing there was no one around on the street, he reached over into the passenger seat and grabbed his potions bag. Unlocking the door and stepping out, onto the street, he slowly walked towards the girl laying on the street. Reaching down he glanced at the girl and saw a girl looking around the age of 16. Checking for a pulse, he waited for a couple seconds before determining there was none. Sighing he pulled out the flask of body disolving poison, and uncorked it slowly tilting towards her.

Mal intently watched him glance between the drink and her. Normally, she wouldn't care so much about a customers opinion about her coffee, but after chatting with Roman a bit she'd like it if he enjoyed the coffee enough to come back. Her mouth opened a bit in surprise when he requested that she sit with him, looking around. It was true that they weren't very busy at the moment, nor would they be for quite a while. She looked over at the wall at the clock before answering. "I'm sure it'll be fine, as long as I don't slack off my manager wont mind." Mal smiled and took off the apron, laying it across the back of the chair similiar to what he had done with his jacket before sitting down. If she happened to get in trouble for this, she could just say she was on her lunch break. Once she was comfortably seated she looked back up at him right as he began talking again. She hadn't even noticed he had taken a drink yet, but at least he seemed to like it. "A-Ah... the name? It's a bit silly for a drink, but it's called French Kiss." She answered, almost hesitant.

It might be a little silly for her be happy just from a compliment, but Mal wasn't a very skillful person at many things, so knowing that she could make an above average cup of coffee was one of few things she could show off. "Just so you know, I don't name whats on the menu." She laughed lightly, wanting to make it clear she hadn't come up with a silly name like that. Her gaze dropped down to his book, it was one she hadn't read before unfortunately, but she'd heard good things. She leaned on the table a bit, pointing at the book, "Is that as good as people make it out to be?"

Activity: Conversing with the waitress

Objective: Enjoy the afternoon
Hearing her response to his suggestion, Roman's smile widened a bit. It was always nice to have some company, especially the company of someone who catches your eye. From the moment he stepped into this cafe, there was just something that made him happy. Unsure of what it had been this entire time, he thinks he had finally figured out what it was... Better yet, who it was. It was good to hear that her manager wouldn't mind her taking the time to talk to a customer, which in itself was still a possibility as she herself didn't seem to sure of them being as lenient. Picking up the cup, Roman took another sip, listening to her every word, even as she stammered on them as she tried explaining the name of the drink. When she did, he chuckled, placing the cup back down. "It's... Cute... In its own little way." He said, laughing a little bit. The name alone made him blush a little bit, his cheeks turning a soft hue of pink. In reality, he was slightly caught off guard by the name, though he wasn't going to let her notice that.

"Whether you named the drink or not, that doesn't take away from the flavor. You're pretty good at this, wish I was just as good as you, but my coffee making skills need work." Roman said as he watched her lean forward to look at the book he was reading. At first, he thought she was going to ask him why he's reading a book about feet, as the cover was just a large picture of a foot, but she must've heard of this title before, as she asked about the quality the book within its story. "A-Ah... It's rather good. I've only just started it recently, so I don't have much of an opinion on it yet. If you want, I'll lend it to you." Roman offered, placing his hand beside the cup that his coffee was in. "I have a few other books I want to finish up before I actually dive into this one and I'm not sure how long that's gonna take."

“Yep!” She replied with a grin, slipping out a cat-themed wallet from her pocket to pay. It took her a moment to realise the terms of the order, but when she did her eyes moved back to his sharply. Huh, his expression said that he meant it.

Robin snorted silently in amusement, then held her hand out. In a second a small paper had appeared between her fingers and she set it on the counter. “Hm, don’t remember seeing that price on the menu, but I’ll give.” The girl found a pen and scribbled down her information before sliding it over with her money and a smile. “Don’t worry about the change.” She finished. Taking her tea when it was ready and making her way to the area with a few barstools, Robin leaned her elbow on the counter. Though it was meant to be a place to set down food, the spirit cat had made it her new perch, her ghostly paw moving to try to knock her owner’s beverage off the bar. It naturally didn’t work.

Robin’s attention was literally out the window, though it moved back to the other supernatural once he had finished with a few more customers. “So, go to school around here?” She questioned just as she brought the drink to her lips.

Hotei - ♠︎ - Cursed Dragon, Rock Shop Owner - Tags: Jaxton ( Wicked Jester Wicked Jester )

Hotei’s nose scrunched up upon feeling a raindrop on it, sitting up and glaring at the sky. His stare now challenged the sky itself. A soft hiss played from his gritted teeth when he felt another, eventually standing with a snort. The rain there was expected, but not welcomed, at least by the dragon.

He stood with his arms crossed across his chest, not taking the obvious way to avoid the weather and just go inside. The redhead waited until a few more raindrops fell on him when flame burst across his shoulders and heated the air around him, huffing out a disgusted sigh when he walked right back onto the sidewalk. Hotei tried to calm hismelf by fanning at the flames with his hand. Of course this wouldn’t improve his mood, but the sight of someone literally on Fire might not be good for his reputation. His clothing was still smoking when he glanced around at any possible witnesses. No one appeared to hav- ah shoot, there was a guy walking this way. Maybe he hadn’t seen the fire elemental’s tantrum. Accidentally making eye contact with the cafe owner, Hotei glanced down and turned to hurry into his own shop.

Lend her the book? Tempting. She truly had intended on getting the book herself once she got paid, but if he was offering to lend it to her sometime then heck why not? It wasn't like she had any reason not to anyways. "If you're offering, I think I'll take you up on that." She replied, running hand through her bangs and watching them fall back into place. Her only concern was how she'd give the book back. Sure, he could just come to the cafe to retrieve it but that'd be a bit hectic depending on if they were super busy or he came when she wasn't working.

A few seconds later Mal turned a bit, reaching into the pocket of her apron and pulling out her phone. "Ah, if you don't mind could I have your number? I was just thinking it might be more convenient, b-but if it's a bit weird since we just officially met I can understand that." She said, clutching her phone to her chest a bit. Was she coming off as creepy? This was the first time in a while she'd held a nice conversation with someone her age, even more so someone from her school. Maybe she'd been a tad bit too eager after all. Nice job, idiot. She internally groaned, was she overthinking this? Definitely. Worst case scenario he said no and they carried on with their conversation, simple.

Roman nodded as he slid the book across to her. As much as he felt that he'd enjoy it, he was in no rush to jump straight into it. That was something he had learned a while back, and it was most definitely in a hard way. It was almost as if he had no choice, as his training was one of the things that helped him learn that patience was the key to almost everything, even things as simple as answering a question. "Please do, I'd love to hear what you think about it. I've heard a lot of good things, but your opinion on it may be the deciding factor." He told her, his smile still taking form on his lips. It was nice that he had found someone his age with similar interest. She may be his first actual friend since Kaori and Masahi, and that made him happy... And that was all in such a short amount of time.

Roman had his hands on the cover of the book still, and once he removed them from the cover he placed them around his cup. As he did this, he heard Mal ask for his phone number, which caused him to tense up a little bit. He raised his hand, covering his mouth with it, hoping to cover his blush. "M-my hone number?" He responded, laughing nervously. That was a bit scary for him. Not in a bad way, but him knowing that she would have to call him someday. Without thinking, he took out his own phone, placing it down on the table and sliding it to her, "Y-Yeah. If you give me yours, I can know when you're calling me..." Roman said, his voice almost silent as he rubbed his head and looked away. He felt like one of those characters from an anime or something. Blushing and whatnot because a girl asked for his number, or in this case, someone was willing to even talk to him, and that someone being a cute girl in a cafe... Not like he was upset about it or anything, "A-And it isn't weird in anyway. Just two people sharing interest in something, right?"
