While she was thinking over her options she had finished packing up her art supplies.

Maybe she'll go home like the mother suggested. She could already feel the edges of exhaustion creep in instead of her usual sleepiness from her insomnia.

Backpack in hand she turned to go home, hopefully the neighbor had already caught Riot and was already in his home. Maybe when she gets inside her house she'll start working on another story, or maybe she could work more on the 3d model she had started last week…...

Another woman's voice brought her attention away from her thoughts. She was a tall, purple dyed, energetic looking lady….

……

What was she doing?

The lady was searching the park calling out looking for someone. Rouge blinked for a moment. Another odd thing added to the list of how weird today was.

Feeling a little unsettled Rouge turned to go another way. She's already interacted with enough people already and weird day aside, she didn't feel well enough to deal with more people.

Leaving is what she was planning to do but unfortunately, a quiet whimper caught her attention. Rouge closed her eyes and gave a big sigh.

There was a dog.

Odds are it could just be sad, or hungry, that's normal for strays. It's probably not hurt……

Another whimper.

Rouge slowly turned to look at where it came from, it was from the direction of the girl.

Oh God damnit.

A grimace slipped onto her face and she VERY reluctantly shuffled her feet closer to the area. Her expression fell blank as she skirted around the place trying to not catch the girls attention yet still trying to follow where the whimpers were coming from.

It took the lady only a few seconds to find the dog. Rouge hanged back as she watched the girl comfort the dog before picking it up and carrying it towards the small parking lot.

Well….at least the dogs getting help. She saw the dog's tail wag a bit as the lady talked to it and a small weight seem to lift from her chest a bit. Creepy as it may, she watched to two go, her lopsided smile showing a bit. Just as the two passed the tree line and she herself turned to leave movement in the terrain caught her attention.

_“listen up Ruu! In the wild anything can happen!”_

Pale uncoordinated limbs reached out from between two trees. It was a person, red liquid stained their clothes. Something was wrong.

_"always wear this mask ok! Mountain lions sometimes stalk us humans when we get into their territory.”_

Her feet were moving. Her eyes noted the…. organ, the intestines? Trailing behind it. Something was very wrong.

_“so always watch your back ok? Because first chance they get”_

Her fingers slipped the backpack off her back. Both straps gripped in one fist.

_“they'll aim for the neck and eat you.”_

The backpack slammed into the person's head from behind full force. Rouge caught the girls startled gaze for a second before looking at the ladies body sprawled on the floor a few feet away.

Did she just……

Rouge could feel herself pale.

Oh no…..

Oh no….

She just assaulted a person. She just assaulted a injured person. She….. she shouldn't have done that.

She should have stopped the lady and called a ambulance like a regular sane person would have. She should have. It's just, the way she was in general didn't look right. Her leg…. You could see bone. And her guts were……

…..

Though she felt the gravity of what she just did, her fingers didn't shake as she pulled out her cellphone.

An ambulance, right, definitely need that.

She flinched as she glanced at the girl and then the lady on the floor. Said lady twitched.

Well at least she didn't kill her…...yet….

The moment she put the speakers on her ear she barely noticed the busy line before the lady she assaulted before abruptly got to her feet and lunged at them.

Jenna: The Park

[IMG='width:576px;']https://www.rpnation.com/proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fcoloristshop.ru%2Fimage%2Fcache%2Fcatalog%2FManic_Panic%2FElectric%2520Amethyst%2FEA-007-800x800.jpg&hash=483b3e1c4d339e5d11b55a6407c94b85[/IMG]
Jenna spun sharply around at the sounds of something hitting flesh. Standing over a woman with her organs hanging out and bone sticking out of her leg was a girl with red, dyed hair.
"What the fuck?!" She cried "What did you just do?!"

Before Jenna had the chance to throttle the girl for assaulting an injured person, the woman on the ground got back up and lunged at her. Her teeth were bared and there was a look of animistic hunger in her eyes.
Still holding the dog, Jenna jumped away, out of reach from the injured woman. The fact that the woman was moving at all, let alone unnaturally send off alarm bells in her head. With the state of her injuries the woman should be dead or at the very least out cold, not moving around and attacking people.

The dog, which was quietly howling before started to growl and bear her own teeth at the injured woman.
"What the...What the hell are you?!"
The woman did not reply, and instead turned it's attention to the girl with red, dyed hair.

She should have stayed home.

Out of more reflex than actual blocking, she quickly brought her back up using it as a shield as the lady, the corpse, slams itself into her. Her knees give out and as soon as her back hits the ground she kicks her feet up and vaults the corpse over her. The corpse landed on its back seeming momentarily stunned.

_“gotcha!” a taller child, her brother, slammed his whole body into her at full force for the fifth time that day. Both children fell off the forest trail making the third child chase after them.

“Hey. Don't be mean! She's too small for that!” said her other, more frail brother.

“...” small silver eyes peeked out from underneath arms as she was held in a headlock. _

She chokes as her breath was knocked out from the hit. The adrenaline running through her veins kept her focused long enough to swing the backpack over he mead and smack the corpses face giving her time to scramble on all fours the same time as it. Again she used her backpack as a shield keeping it shoved on the corpses face as it dove at her again. Their movements seemed like a bizarre tug of war only instead of pulling, the two were pushing at each other with all their strength.

What does she do!? She can't assault a person-corpse?- twice!

Barking and the girl's screams were making her frazzled. She flicked her eyes to them for a second, what caught her gaze instead were a couple as they ran down the street being chased by…….a couple of corpses just like the lady……

Roue almost lost her grip on the backpack as the corpse knocked her over and got on top of her. The corpse-

…….zombie? Her feet kicked out making the zombie go unbalanced and fall onto it’s back. As she got up her foot slipped a bit on one of the entrails making more droop out of her stomach and entangle itself with the rest that had already spilled out all around them during the struggle.

Oh, it might actually be a zombie
..she vaguely thought as she slipped again on the blood and crashed into one of the cars next to them.

She blinked at it for a split second before dodging out of the way as the zombie lunged at her and crash into the same spot she was before. Before it recovered, without putting much thought into her next action she grabbed the back of its head and slammed it into the window. A loud thunk sounded out.

Another hit, and another. Each swing getting harder to do. The window started getting cracks, on the fifth hit the head broke through. She startled for a second staring at the body. When it twitched and scramble in an attempt to get out she slammed her weight on it’s back. Its neck dug into the glass and she held its head down as her other arm scrambled to get one of the glass shards. The moment she grabbed ahold of a decent sized one she rammed it into the base of the zombie's skull and it finally stopped, it's only movements were twitches.

Rouge wheezes as she backs away and puts her hands on her knees. Adrenaline was still coursing through her veins and she couldn't catch her breath. More distant noises caused her to look up again. In the distance, she noticed more sounds of chaos and disorder than before the fight happened. There were screams and another car zoomed by the entrance to the parking lot.

She REALLY should have stayed home.

Her eyes eventually went back to the girl with the dog. She noted the girls horrified expression. Aside from the violent display she just showed she must have looked terrible. Blood definitely covered her from rolling around the bloody ground and tussling with the corpse.

Spitting out a foul taste in her mouth she stood up. She was hoping to calm the girl before she gave into hysteria but the moment she went to speak her knees crumbled and she promptly threw up.

Suoh.pngOwen was glad that he continued his outburst when the lady tried to tell him that his car wasn’t going anywhere. His mother was likely in terrible danger, and he would get up to the hospital if he had to run the whole damn way. However, Lucia, as she introduced herself, offered to give him a ride and he sighed, glad that he hadn’t been a dick for something that wasn’t her fault. She couldn’t make his car any less of a POS.

“Yeah I would appreciate a ride. I’m Owen by the way,” he introduced himself. This was much better than his plan. Someone else had called shotgun? Was her boyfriend waiting outside or something? No. As Owen followed Lucia out of the mechanic shop she found a small boy sitting in the passenger seat. He looked a lot like Lucia, the same dark hair and eyes. Owen flashed him a smile as he took his seat in the back behind him.

“Hey nice to meet you,” Owen greeted the boy with a smile. He wasn’t without manners despite his worry. He thought about calling Andy, but knew that she wouldn’t answer him. Maybe after today she would get over this petty nonsense and talk to him, but Owen wouldn’t hold his breath. The girl could hold a grudge when he wanted to.

“Thanks again for this. There is something going down at the hospital and my mom works there. If you could just drop me off near there I would appreciate it.” Owen didn’t want to put this girl or the kid in danger if he could help it, whatever was going down at Freeman Medical Center had to be bad if it was making news like it was.

The possibility that he couldn’t make it onto the premises occurred to him as well, the idea that he was too late. He hoped that he would arrive to find his mom, bossing people around in her normal way outside the building. He fastened his seat belt and waited for his accommodating driver to take him to his destination.

Just outside Freeman Medical Center -

You ever seen a bighorn sheep? Lemme tell ya: they ain't jokin'! Horns bigger than your head!
The Chauffeur

KF67vZr.gif

As recompense for the faulty car the previous day, Aurora Rentals felt it was only right to assign Ben their finest rental and a complimentary chauffeur to go along with it. The young businessman had half a mind to decline the offer and take an Uber instead, but he'd ultimately decided to take them up on the offer. And, oh, what a mistake that was...

The man behind the wheel of the black Benz-- Lenny, he thought his name was-- wouldn't stop talking. Particularly about his hunting trips in the mountains just north of his hometown. Benicio had been on a few hunting trips himself in the past, when he'd been forced to cater to the pleasures of a would-be business partner or investor. Mostly desert mule deer in the plateaus of Sonora. He'd never developed a taste for it, however. Trophies to him were the sad (or angry) voicemails of beaten competitors on his phone: begging him to reconsider a deal, to give them another chance, to stop sleeping with their fiancee, wife, or daughter, yada yada yada. Killing majestic animals for sport was just... needless.

But, as usual, Benny's natural charisma had given this man the thought that he was a mental and more than willing depository for all of his hunting stories and 'accomplishments' he'd made in this small hick town of his. With the derogatory comments he'd received from the dean after his presentation at the university was over, however, Benicio just wasn't having it today. He would rather wait for the Uber in the cold.

"Stop the car." He demanded calmly, cutting Lenny off mid-sentence about the right way to season deer jerky or something like that. When that was followed by a long pause and no car stopping, Benicio spoke again. This time a bit more forcefully. "Stop. The. Car."

This time, thankfully, the chauffeur did as he was told almost immediately. The black Benz came to a swift stop just in front of the main entrance to Freeman Medical Center and, as Lenny hastily inquired what was wrong, Benicio opened the door and strode out. He took a deep breath and opened up the home screen on his phone, ignoring the chauffeur's begging for an explanation all the while as he walked towards the hospital's front lobby meters away. Then, without warning--

BANG. BANG BANG.

He'd nearly dropped his phone from the alarming sound. At first, he reasoned it was nothing but an old car somewhere nearby having trouble starting. Hick towns had hick cars, right? But then there was another gunshot, followed by the terrified screams of people muffled from somewhere inside the hospital. By the time Benny turned around, Lenny had already stepped on the gas and lunged the black Benz forward. The young man dashed forward to try and catch the door, but missed it by a long shot. He watched as the car steadily became smaller in the horizon... and as it passed by military-grade vehicles that seemed to be approaching just as fast.

Andy had a hard time admitting when she was wrong, this would be one of those times. Luca had been nice enough to help her out of what could have been a fatal situation and she was being stupid by wanting to go back in there, throwing his generosity away. Of course she wanted to check on her mother, find that she was alive. However, at the end of the day all she would be doing is throwing her life away.

If she was alive, she wasn’t in the emergency room anymore. Luca was right about that.

“Wait up!” She called after him as he left. Jogging, she was able to keep up with him pretty easily. Andrea had no idea what kind of person Luca was since the days of watching him and her brother play together, but at the very least he had a plan and a gun.

Something was causing people to turn crazy, bite each other...kill each other. Staying here was certain death. Her mother didn’t even know she was here, and Andy tried her best to think that once she made it out her mother would be outside, take her into a large hug and chastise her for coming her.

“I’m sorry okay. You’re right, so how do we get out of here?” She noticed they were in a part of the hospital she wasn’t entirely familiar with. At a point all the white halls and sterile smelling rooms blended together. It seemed that her knight in shining armor had some sort of clue as to where they were going.

Something about him set of Andy’s alarm bells, the same way a dark alley did or a car that followed her one turn too many. She wanted to chalk it up to the nerves of the day, but everything from the tattoos covering his skin, the the way he held himself, to the confidence he had holding that gun, assured Andy that he was dangerous in his own right. Less so than the madmen flooding the hospital though, and that was enough for now.

Andrea followed behind the smoking man, as close as possible without actually touching him. Something about the whole ordeal felt off, like something straight out of a horror movie. Looking around the hospital didn’t help, this particular corridor seemed eerily quiet in comparison the chaos of the rest of the place. Her eyes settled on a form, knelt down on the ground a few feet in front of them.

A low moan escaped her lips as she did her best to be quiet. The thing in front of them was covered in carnage. It looked like it was maybe a young male, but his blue scrubs were almost violet by the dark red blood that soaked through them and made them cling to his skin. Blood seemed to cover his arms and hands, and more importantly his mouth. His teeth were stained with the stuff, and in his hands was what looked like a severed arm, the gleam of white bone standing out against the mess of blood and senue.

The sight made her want to throw up, and at the very least made her stomach turn. Something wasn’t right. These people were going crazy, attacking others, biting others. She hadn’t expected to see someone eating another person’s arm though. But after watching a dead man stand back up, maybe it wasn’t so far fetched. They almost seemed like...zombies or something.

Andy reached out and grabbed Luca’s bicep, doing her best to stay silent but to also warn him of the thing lurking just in front of them. It didn’t seem to notice them yet, she wasn’t sure where they were going, but she hoped that it didn’t mean they were going to have to walk past this crazed man currently feasting on someone’s forearm.

"Ah, fuck!"

She played videogames for a living, obviously she'd come across the undead. Zombies, infected. Whatever you wanted to call them, she'd killed them and even played as them. During Halloween she tried to find a new horror game to play through and visited haunted houses up and down the country. She was a sucker for that kind of stuff, hell she'd even discussed at length what kind of plans she'd have for a zombie apocalypse.

It was all for fun, of course. She didn't really think that sort of thing could actually happen, although she'd fantasised about it.

And as she stood over the corpse of an inhuman creature, and the word zombie came to mind all Jenna did was freeze up. Her eyes were wide, but her arms still locked around the injured dog. She started to bark again, snapping Jenna back to focus as a few more zombies started to move in. Mouths wide open, arms stretched and then, there was the smell.
Holding the dog tightly, she opened the door to the car.

"Hey!" She shouted at the red-haired girl "Get in the car! But if you throw up you gotta clean it! This piece of shit car's a rental and the company will have my arse if I give it back with so much as a scratch on it."

Doctor Ralph Fisher: Freeman Medical Centre
700-00439956en_Masterfile.jpg
"I don't have time for this!" The Officer shouted "Move away from the hospital, sir or I cannot guarantee your safety!"
Ralph ran his hands through his hair "You aren't listening to me! I need to get in touch with the CDC or a lot of people are going to die! I could have grabbed my phone by now if you weren't holding us up!"

The officer took one step towards Ralph. He was a slightly taller man, but as he stood up straight he towered above the Doctor.
"You listen to me Mr Fisher..."
"Doctor."
"I don't care." He shook his head "You being on hold to your people isn't enough of a reason to risk the lives of my people. I could have an officer take you to the police station. At least there you'd be safe and could warn the CDC...I'm sorry about your team man, but I'm not risking my own officers over a phone."

Ralph opened his mouth to say something, he really wanted to give the officer a piece of his mind or even throttle him for giving the disease an upper-hand. It had time on it's side, Ralph was clueless and people were panicking. It was like three bullets in a loaded gun. There was no way he could get inside himself, but if the police weren't going to help he needed to find another way.

He approached the crowd and held up his badge.
"Excuse me, can I have your attention!?"
They were already scattering, moving as far away from the hospital as possible. His calls for help were ignored as he could barely hear himself over screams and cries of survivors, and the angry voices of those who'd shown up looking for loved ones.
"I need to get inside the hospital! I have research notes on what's going on and a phone with an emergency speed-dial to the Centre for Disease Control!"

Nobody seemed to pay attention to him, or his voice didn't travel far enough.
"I can stop this! But my team's dead and I can't do it alone! Please, you have to listen!"

> Freeman Medical Center

Andy caught up to Luca well before his hands pushed open the doors leading to the third floor. It creaked open as Luca slowly peeked his head out, looking around to be sure the coast was clear before advancing. He wasn’t exactly focused on Andy, but having someone to watch his back while he formulated a plan moving forward was the best chance he currently had at getting out alive. Light hues scanned the long hallway before them. To their left was two elevators, both of which seemed to be out of use. Half of the floor’s electricity was seemingly out, with only a few lights on over by the nurse’s desk.

Nearby, was a nurse eating away at a corpse in the middle of the hallway. The light belonging to that part of the wing illuminated the eery scene. It might not have noticed the two, but the man was still unsure of how to move about the beast. Perhaps it would be too focused on eating to worry about Andy and himself. One thing was for certain, and that was the two needed to make it past the zombie in order to reach the room with the fire escape attached. Luca was nervous. If he fired off his weapon to take out the zombie, how many more were lurking around waiting for a loud sound to go off? How fast could they move?

Luca was not concerned about the amount of bullets left in his clip, as he constantly kept count. Running out of bullets in the middle of the firefight was not one of the ways that Luca wanted to go out; he learned from the very same mistake that took his father’s life years ago. The clip had twelve in total and he had used two. Luca had ten shots left and it was extremely plausible that he would need to make every single one count in case things got dirty. The man turned his head to Andy, unsure of the correct call. He spoke in an extremely low and hushed tone, moving his lips close to Andy’s ears as her arms wrapped around his bicep.

“Listen very carefully.”

In the distance, the only sound aside from Luca’s hushed voice would be sourced by the zombie. The sound of flesh squishing between its teeth. It’s feet and hands shifting in the puddle of the deceased man’s blood as it re positioned itself to feast on other parts of the body. A brilliant case study could be made for the beast’s appetite. This person was once human - what the hell could it have been that possibly turned people into monsters with such an unquenchable appetite? Luca pointed his gun at the door opposite of the hallway they were standing at.

“We have to get into that room, open the window next to the bed and use the fire escape to get down to the ground. We’re gonna try and get past this thing quietly. Maybe it’ll be too distracted to notice us. I’ll be right behind you - if it turns its head even a lil bit, you need to make a run for that door. Don’t look back.”

He aimed his gun to the side of the hallway, motioning that they were to go around it’s back. Moving his face from hers, he nodded and waited for her to take lead. Staying as close as he possibly could, Luca’s free hand grasped onto the back of Andy’s shirt so he could properly direct her if the need be. Together, the two began to slowly advance toward the zombie. Luca grew careful with each and every step. Eyes moved to take note of the lights as he got closer. One of the casings was broken but the light was still blinking, as though it was trying its best to do its job.

There was barely any room between the zombie and the desk around the nurse’s station. The two squeezed by as quietly as they possibly could, Luca’s eyes fixated on the back of the beasts’ head as she made it past without issue. The same could not be said for Luca, however, whose sole stepped on a piece of glass belonging to the broken light casing. It made a low crunching noise, leading to Luca immediately letting go of Andy’s shirt. At the very same time, the cigarette that was burning away between Luca's lips dropped to the ground.

The zombie turned its head up from the severed limb it was eating. Luca slammed the grip of his gun down into the back of the zombie’s head with as much force as he possibly could, breaking the skull and generating a small crater as a result. The zombie moved its head once more. Panicking, Luca lifted his arm back up and banged the grip of his gun into the same spot, forcing the crater to become larger. He continued swinging at the back of the zombie’s head until its face was in the pool of blood it had been sitting in. Then, Luca stood upright and promptly stomped the back of his heel into the back of the zombie’s neck. The bone cracked loudly on impact, but the zombie stopped moving.

Luca looked to the left. Andy was gone; the door was open and so was the window. A pair of hands reached out from his right, one of which grabbed the fabric of Luca’s jacket upon contact. Instantaneously, the man shoved another zombie off of him without even looking - partially slipping as he turned as fast as he could and gunned it for the room with the fire escape. His feet led him through the doors with no issue, though as Luca ran he noticed the hallway perpendicular to the one that he had been in was filled with zombies walking in his direction. If the electricity went out… Everyone on life support was now a zombie.

The fire escape was seemingly clear. Luca slammed the window closed behind him, standing there on the fire escape momentarily. Huffing and puffing, the man placed one of his hands on his chest, continuing to hyperventilate momentarily before the adrenaline rush got the best of him. Moving to the nearest banister, Luca would lean his torso over the bar and proceed to vomit stomach bile and water over the side. Hell, at least he still had his bag filled with cash. All money was blood money.

Lucia Gonzaléz
Lucia gave Owen a nod as he introduced himself, He didn't seem too bad of a guy, friendly enough.. Although, clearly Antonio thought different, He ignored the man. Once they all settled into the car, Antonio gave her a confused look. She noticed turning his way, "Giving him a ride, it won't take long." She explained. Antonio looked towards Owen, and back to Lucia. "¿Recogiendo a los vagabundos ahora?" He said with a pointed look towards Owen. "Si todos los vagos se veían así.. habría abierto un refugio para desamparados hace mucho tiempo." Giving him a playful wink. Antonio's face facial expressions changed from discontent to disgust. Which made Lucia smile from the humor of it.

She looked up into the rear-view mirror, attempting to catch Owen's eye, "Owen, meet Antonio." She rolled her eyes playfully, "My problematic brother." She said pushing Antonio softly, When Owen spoke. She brushed away his thanks "It isn't a big deal. Besides work and school we're hardly busy." She said it was a lie. It was because of work and school they were always busy. But for some reason she felt like helping, she'd like someone to help should she was ever in his position. But because Lucia and Antonio's time were limited when they were actually together. Today was the first time they talked, like really talked. Sure, she only knew bits of what happened at the school. But usually he'd flip out, storm in his room and then the next day it was just 'What's for dinner?' through to each other, It was a good day for the two. But she hated to think it wouldn't last for long, Antonio was always a hard kid to get through to. Very closed off, In that way they were similar. She huffed a breath, and her eyebrows raised in surprise when Owen said he'd need to go to the hospital. "Yeah..we heard about that." She started the car. As her and Antonio exchanged glances. "I'm sure she's okay." She said, to Owen. Turning slightly so he could see her give him a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.

She started driving towards the hospital. Antonio turned around in his chair, "So, Owen. What do you do?" He asked, looking the man up and down, as if trying to figure out something. "Y'know for work." She was interested in knowing also, what's the harm in finding out? She watched him through the rear-view mirror, waiting for a reply. Antonio kept bothering the man for questions, it seemed more of an interrogation then introductions. She let the harmless questions pass, "Do you have a girlfriend?" Antonio asked, Lucia glared at him, and he raised his eyebrows. "Do you have a boyfriend?" He said instead, Lucia sighed heavily, slowed the car down a bit and pulled Antonio by the hem of his shirt, making him sit down. "Stop." She said, to which he just crossed his arms and sat there. "Sorry." She told Owen, after a few minutes in comfortable silence when they were about a block away, police cars came speeding past her own car, she swerved to narrowly avoid a collision "Qué mierda?" She cursed, and mumbled out an apology. As she got closer to the hospital on the road, there were a few cars that seemed to be unattended. As if someone was driving, suddenly stopped and got out of their car? and left it on the street. "Jesus, the shooting made people go crazy." She said parking the car across the street from the hospital.

"I'm not hundred percent sure what happened there, but i do know that there were shots fired, i'm not sure if it was just the police or the assailant. If there even is one.." She sighed and turned towards him. "Just be careful."

Rouge:
Without second thought Rouge dove straight into the seat. It was only when she closed the door and clicked in her seat belt that she realized the ridiculousness of what the girl said.

She was covered in blood and organ bits, undead were rising around them, a dog was in the back seat that was probably shedding from pain and stress and the girl was worried about her puking?

Rouge furrowed her brows and squinted her eyes a bit confused as she glanced at the girl for a second before locking the door. It was times like this that she wonders if she'll ever understand regular people or if their train of thought would always elude her. Deciding not to comment on that she asked something else.

“um, so we should, w-we should-” the undead were starting to get close enough to the car where she could see the wounds in gruesome detail. “- Really get out of here. Anywhere fine just….” her brain was working overdrive “- just gotta get away from the, the center of town.”

The dog started barking from the back seat at the corpses. Rouge held a hand back to pet the dog.

Suoh.pngOwen couldn’t help but give the rather mischievous kid pestering him with questions. He was a good brother to his sister, that he could respect. Some of his questions were loaded, definitely meant to make him look bad in front of his sister. Owen was sure he had done the same to any lowlifes sniffing around Andy, so he knew where the kid was coming from. He flashed Antonio a smile.

“I work at the pawn shop,” Owen answered… not a lie but not really the truth either, it was the stock answer he gave when people asked him the question, the same answer he gave his mother when she asked how work was going. Bert and Ernie's definitely helped pay most of the bills, but his work for them went much deeper than just pushing a broom.

“No girlfriend, no boyfriend either.” When Lucia apologized for her brother Owen shook his head and grinned.

“No need to apologize, he’s just looking out for you. You’ve got a good little brother there,” He turned his attention to the kid. “I have a big sister too.” Andy was only older by a few moments, but that didn’t stop her from rubbing it in his face when he was younger, or holding it over him when he made what she considered to be a bad decision.

They neared the hospital, the crowd of police cars and panicked people he saw in the parking lot didn’t do much to soothe his nerves, or to rid him of the lump in his throat. Owen didn’t want this nice girl and her kid brother to get wrapped up in this madness, and totally understood when she parked across the street from the hospital.

At Lucia’s warning he gave her another smile, she was kind to him. It was the kind of thing that didn’t go unnoticed by Owen. Even if she didn’t know it, she had made a friend in Owen. He repaid kindness.

“Thanks. I just want to grab my ma and get out….” his voice trailed off as his eyes settled on the tiny mint green car in the parking lot. Owen would recognize that car anywhere, Andy had gone crazy for the color. He had gone with her to the dealership when she had gotten it, to make sure she didn’t get swindled by some greasy salesman. He had thought the car was tiny and girly, and totally not his sister’s type of thing, but she had wanted it so he made sure that she had gotten it.

Andy was here too, hopefully outside in the group trying to get information about his mother. Hopefully not within the blocked doors and out of his reach with the chaos of the gunman inside. All the color drained out of Owen’s face.

“Fuck…” he growled, concern taking over his features. His brow wrinkled as he searched for his sister’s number in his phone. “Lucia, thanks again. I have to go, my sister is here too.” He turned to Antonio and offered his a fist to bump. “Take care of your sister.” Then he turned from both of them to take his own advice.

Jenna: The Park

[IMG='width:576px;']https://www.rpnation.com/proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fcoloristshop.ru%2Fimage%2Fcache%2Fcatalog%2FManic_Panic%2FElectric%2520Amethyst%2FEA-007-800x800.jpg&hash=483b3e1c4d339e5d11b55a6407c94b85[/IMG]
Before the girl could even finish her sentence, Jenna had already started the car and was pulling away from the park. Jenna's hands gripped tightly around the steering wheel as she swerved to avoid a corpse on the road.
"Okay. Plan. We need to get away from the centre. But I need to treat the pooch. So we're going back to my place. Just for a bit. After that..."

She took a breath, realising she was talking too fast.
"Thanks. I never said thank you, for saving me I mean. Well, me and the pooch."

Everything was going by so fast. Just a few minutes ago she was still streaming and talking about pets. In fact, her stream was probably still going as her phone was still on in her pocket. They'd only be getting the audio, so she'd still need to warn people in Aurora. The dead were walking the streets, and it was only a matter of time before the entire city was overrun.
Even if the police, or national guard got it under control eventually a lot of people would still die. She had a responsibility to her followers now, at least to get the word out.
Whether or not they believed her was another thing, but she had to try.

The girl in the passenger seat. Jenna didn't even know her name, but she might have a family or friends in the city. What about them?
"You got family? Friends? Anyone you need to contact?" Her eyes were still fixed on the road, only having to avoid the occasional body. The carnage died down as the car drove further away from the centre.

Going back into the hospital by himself was suicide, that much was certain. As he ran scenarios through his head, Ralph sighed heavily. He was wasting too much time at the hospital, and worse... If the situation worsened or he tried to reach the CDC by himself and he became infected then not only would his team have died for nothing but the parasite would just gain more of a foothold.

He turned to the officer "I'm going to reach the CDC from your station. Please let them know I'm coming."
With a simple nod in response, Ralph took off as fast as his legs could carry him deeper into town. He was sure the infected had already left the hospital through broken windows and back entrances, and the city would be a warzone.

Getting to the station was his number one priority right now. He couldn't be distracted.

[div class="Line"] [div class="Icon"] Actions[/div] Lilly stepped off the bus, on her way from classes to Marcus's dad's shop. He texted her, said it was super important. She hoped it wasn't like another 'urgent' message to just get her to hang with him. She had homework..and her personal project to work on. Plus the chickens had to be fed and mom's shift as IT supervisor for the hospital doesn't end till later and Aunt Vadalia is out of town. This better be really important, else Marcus was going to pay for her lunch, that she skipped earlier.

The bus stopped a block down from the shop. People hurried to get off, shoving her aside. Eventually she managed to slip her way onto the side walk and move forward. She expertly dodged the people passing by. The day seemed normal enough, the shop didn't seem to busy as she entered. Marcus didn't seem to be at the front counter.

"Marcus?" Her voice cut across the room as she looked in the back for him. "What's the urgent thing you wanted to talk about?" She looked around. Lilly hated this store, the weapons all of it. The only reason she tolerated it was because of Marcus. The, wares of the store, made her uneasy, for many reasons. She eventually found her friend.

[div class="Line"] [div class="Icon"] Actions[/div] Luka had simply been walking down the street, today he was going to try to talk to his mother and sister. Though in hindsight he should've made sure they were home. Oh well. Luka would just sit on the porch till some one came home eventually. People went by on the side walk, cars went by on the street. Seems like there was some panic going on by the hospital. He looked by, people, cars, weird...things walking around. He didn't have time to worry about that as he walked past it.

The commotion was left behind him. Walking was objectively better for him since he stayed at his computer most days but damn was it annoying. At least the farther he got from the center of the town the quieter things got. His thoughts did muddle in his head making noise he couldn't escape. He gritted his teeth and just kept his eyes forward. No more thoughts just... what the heck was in the road?

He stepped closer, seems like...a body? Did a junkie over dose or something? Shouldn't there be like people to take care of dead guys? Wait...this isn't even the shadier part of town. How this dude get in the road with out like police and like any one here. Maybe some one tried to hide it and ditched it. Luka stepped closer, putting his hoodie over his nose, germs and the stench. Looking side to side he walked over.

Wait, his spine felt like it snapped into place as he saw a trail of blood following behind the corpse to an alley. Did it...move all the way out here? no must've been the dragged out here theory. The corpse did seem to twitch and actually reached out out him, He could see a old pipe sticking right through its torso and many broken bones, he didn't look like he was dead more than...maybe not even a day. looking at him now seemed like this guy just croaked, possible feel in the alley but...still moving??

Luka wasn't having this nonsense, the brooding late teen jumped back and just in time, narrowly escaping the path of a car with...two girls and a dog??? He should've stayed home. This was not real was it? Just another messed up dream, or night mare, though there waas no figure in a trench coat any where...not a dream then. "HEY WATCH IT!" He yelled to the passing car. There was no time to be yelling at vehicles, escaping the possible hallucination is a must. [/div]

He looked down at his watch, staring at the hand. "Damn...sure is taking her time isn't she?" He sighed, he was standing at the front desk for the time being but since she was taking a bit he decided to restock a bit before he had to go, that's when she startled him. He jumped up almost dropping the box of hunting vests. "Oh, uh hey Lilly...urgent well...wanna sit down a second?" He points to the camping chair that happened to be there. "So...anyway...I-I..." He takes a deep breath. "Okay...you can do it..." He says out loud to himself. "Lilly...you probably didn't know this but there are some...secrets I haven't told you and one of them I'm going to tell you today, I guess in hopes of finally having what I've wanted for all these years...I've been a bad and a good friend at times but never the less I have always been here for you haven't I? Rouge shook her head. “ah, no need to thank me. Honestly I acted without thinking. If that lady wasn't already dead I would have technically committed homicide based on a bad feeling.”

She looked out the window a bit tensed. Now that they were out of the parking lot there was a remarkably drastic decrease of corpses. Maybe they were unlucky enough to encounter the beginning of the disaster. And maybe they were lucky enough to escape it. Or at least get ahead of the carnage……

“uh, no….no. I don't, I don't have…..nah. I'm good. I'm new here, so haven't had the time to make friends….” Rouge flinched as they narrowly missed a guy in the middle of the road. She made brief eye contact with his fiery eyes before they passed him. She saw a body next to him. He guy was the first they had seen since leaving the park, and he seemed to be heading to the disaster area. Hesitantly she pointed at him.

“uh….should…..should we help him?”

Everything in Andy wanted to bolt back down those stairs and leave that shell of a man to his feast, but something glued in her in place. Maybe it was the sense of teamwork, or the comforting sound of Luca, whispering his plans in her ear. He seemed to be a little more put together about this than she was. His idea required quiet and quick feet which thankfully were two things the girl felt confident she could provide. The idea of not waiting for him if he fell behind didn’t sit well with her, but it wasn’t the time to have hushed arguments about morals. Plus, Luca had a gun and she did not. It made more sense for her to book it if it got nasty.

Andy followed her companion’s lead, allowing him to keep hold of her shirt, and moving quietly beside him as they made their way past the zombie. When she heard his foot crunch the glass and felt him tense, her body reacted on instinct. The red head bolted as instructed out the door in front of her. She could hear the commotion inside coming from Luca’s fight with the zombie.

Part of her wanted to go back and help, but something glued her in place. Luca was more suited to fight the thing than she was anyway, if she had her bow maybe…

But she didn’t. Luca had a gun and going back in to help would ultimately only put him further at risk. Andy waited just a few steps down the fire escape, waiting for the man to emerge. When he finally did, a large breath caught her lungs and relief took her. She walked up the steps to catch up to him right as he threw up over the side of the railing.

“Hey…” Andy spoke softly as to not startle him. “Did he hurt you?” She wasn’t sure what she was going to do if Luca was hurt. The place you took people in times of crisis was sort of down for maintenance at the moment. She was going to suggest that they get the hell out of dodge, the commotion that she could hear down in the parking lot made her realize that people knew what was happening.

The glare of red and blue lights flickered below her, a sight that her brain was programed to associate with worry. She wondered if there was any chance that her mother was down there in the crowd, helping the wounded and tending to the sick. The deep, burning, pit in her stomach told her otherwise.

Andy’s phone rang, and she gestured for Luca to follow her down the stairs of the fire escape while she pulled the thin device from her hoodie pocket. It was Owen. Under normal circumstances he would go straight to voicemail, but this was different. If he knew what was going on, he was likely calling to check in and not answering and causing him panic would be cruel. The girl answered it.

“Yeah?”

“Andy, please tell me you aren’t in the hospital.” She heard Owen’s voice on the other end. To her it sounded worried, she was sure to others it sounded gruff.
“Not anymore. I just got out,” she answered shortly, clearing the steps and making it to the safety of the concrete parking lot below her.

“Thank god. Is mom with you?” He asked. Andy’s silence was met with a frustrated groan.

“I see you across the parking lot,” Owen was waving her over to him. “Come over here.” Andy hung up the phone and sighed. The girl turned to Luca, she owed him a lot. It was weird that they had both managed to stay in Aurora this whole time and not run back into each other. The fact that the universe dumped them together right when she needed someone to watch her back was even more unfathomable to her.

“Thanks for everything. You really saved my neck back there...a few times. I need to go fill my brother in with what’s going on and see if my mom made it out. You are welcome to come with me if you want to catch up with Owen….” Andy’s gratitude was cut off by a loud screeching noise from her pocket. It was an alarm sound that was coming from her phone. She heard many others go off simultaneously. The girl looked down at the screen to see a message.

“This is not a Test. Aurora Township is in a state of emergency. All citizens should report to James D. Wilcox Middle School for testing and quarantine. This is not a test.”

Andy’s eyes widened as she looked up at Luca. Were the people that were going crazy in the hospital sick with something that was contagious? Was Luca now sick? Was she?

He watched as she took the bracelet from him, he had a matching one someone like it that made it piece together to show they were one. It was a bit cheesy but Lilly usually loved cheesy. “I…really? “Yeah.”

Luca was not comfortable with the female wrapping her arms around him. However, it wasn’t exactly the best time to make a fuss about such meaningless embraces. Moving a sleeve across his mouth to remove any excess saliva, the man followed Andy down the fire escape and into the parking lot. Then he placed his gun between the waistband of his pants and his underwear. He slowed a bit as Andy did, his eyes studying the expression on her face as she mentioned that Owen was here and that the two had to go inquire about the well-being of their mother.

His phone vibrated in his pocket. Luca swiped up to unlock it before reading the notification and putting it back to sleep. Things were far more serious than just an isolated incident in the hospital. Both Andy and Luca were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not everything too bad came out of this scenario, though. For Luca, life wasn’t exactly roses before flesh-eating humans became a thing. Rather, he was living in a different version of the same hell. With his handler now dead and the government in a state of emergency, Luca had seemingly stumbled upon a clean slate.

The man took a deep breath. He understood that she needed to inquire about her mother, but he was not interested in staying around one of the most dangerous places that Aurora currently had to offer. The text had been very clear as to where the safest place was. While Luca was not the biggest fan of the government, nor did he have any desire to go back to the school he dropped out of, it was obvious that it was the safest place to go. Luca didn’t have any family left; he couldn’t relate to Andy’s motivation.

“I’m going my own way. Give Owen my best.”

Shoving a hand into his pocket to deposit his cell into its depths, the man would withdraw a key fob. He clicked the lock button and then clicked the button that ran the engine; an all-black sports car in the corner of the parking lot started instantly, it’s lights turning on in the process. Without another word, Luca would then turn from Andy and walk away. Moments later, Luca pulled into drive and peeled out of the parking lot. The first place he was going to hit was his local gun shop. He wanted to grab enough ammunition to fill the car he was driving. It wasn’t his; Luca didn’t technically own a vehicle. The cars he drove were under the names of people who worked for Luca rather than himself. He did this to keep his name ‘off the books’, despite having a driver’s license just as a valid form of identification.

Luca was forced to drive in a panic; there were cars swerving and hitting other cars, hitting people in the road while presumably trying to either get to the middle school or out of Aurora. In one case, Luca had to completely swerve around a truck which slammed into a car that had been half a mile in front of him. Had that been Luca, he would have certainly been killed. He needed to get off the road as soon as possible. Anxious and frustrated, Luca finally pulled up to the shop. He noticed it had been ransacked. There wasn’t another car in sight, aside from one police car. Its lights were going off but they were not accompanied by a siren.

The former capo got out of the car, slowly closing the door before reaching for his gun. It wasn’t there. Looking back into the window of his vehicle would spark the memory of a few minutes earlier, when Luca placed it on the passenger seat so he wouldn’t accidentally shoot himself while he was trying to avoid panic on the highway. He blew air out of his nostrils faster than usual and then turned from the car, slowly moving to the handrail to the ramp and hopping over it. This ramp led to the front door. He ducked down low, eyes barely making it over the broken glass of a window, so he could see what was going on inside. There was a cop standing there, using his radio. He was trying to get back up. This cop wouldn’t have time to wait for his friends while Luca was trying to look around.

Moving slowly to the door beside the window, Luca calmly walked in. The back of the cop was facing him, but the man had yet to hear him. Luca moved to a spot opposite of where the cop was standing, behind a gun rack. He quietly kneeled to pick up an aluminum bat that had been left by one of the vagrants who had robbed the store. Only time would tell if the shop still actually had anything of value, but Luca would first have to get rid of the cop before he could look. Luca took a few deep breaths before standing up straight and moving around the gun rack so that he was standing about a foot behind the cop.

“Hello, officer.” He cooed softly, with that slight Italian accent slipping off his tongue.

The cop turned rather quickly. Reacting just as quick, Luca immediately swung the bat diagonally upward from the right side of his body. The aluminum tip smashed into the cop’s chin, forcing his neck back and instantly knocking him unconscious. As the cop fell to the side, his head smashed through a glass display – killing him. His torso laid limp against the rest of the display along with his feet, being partially hung by the shards of glass sticking through his neck. Luca spun the rubber grip of the bat in his hand once, holding it firmly as he stared at the man’s body. He too, much like Luca was minutes earlier, was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

After a bit of investigation and deep searching, Luca came up with very little. He had a few boxes of rounds for a sniper and a bat, which would be of use if he ever ran out of ammo. Luca removed his cell phone from his pocket, checking the time. He had a plethora of missed calls and texts. Fifteen minutes had passed. It was time for Luca to get to the middle school. There was no other gun shop for miles, and Luca didn’t have the time to drive on a bet. Holding the bat underneath one of his arms, Luca wrapped his fingers around both ends of the phone and snapped it in half, dropping the broken technology onto the floor.

As he did, he heard the shifting of feet. Luca didn’t freeze, nor did he turn. Rather, he ran the hell out of the gun shop and got into the car, once again peeling off – though this time, he was headed for the middle school. Back at the gun shop, the officer who had been hung from the glass display was reanimated. The blood from his carotid artery had spilled completely over the side of the display, staining his clothes. It was dried up around his neck, where the rather large shards of glass had still been sticking through. The dead’s hands reached forward, as though he was still chasing Luca. At the same time, the dead cop was loudly groaning as the tips of his toes attempted to gain enough ground to remove his body from its pinned position.

So the girl didn't have anyone either? All of Jenna's family members were back in the UK, and the few friends she had made on her road-trip across the states were at least a few towns away, with the majority being out of state. She'd have to stick with the redheaded girl, at least for a bit to keep an eye on her. She did save Jenna and the dog from the zombie, after all.

Getting used to that word was still difficult, but she had to confront what was directly in front of her. She didn't care about breaking the speed limit, she just had to get back to where she was staying so she could treat the pooch and warn as many people as she could.
As her mind wandered, still trying to process the situation she almost hid a wandering pedestrian in the middle of the road. She was normally a careful driver, and prided herself on that but this was a rather...Unique situation, to say the least.

Jenna slammed her foot down on the break, and the car screeched to a halt in front of Luke. The car would be a bit cramped, but if something were to happen to the stranger she wouldn't be able to live with herself. She'd nearly run him over, as well so had to check if he was okay.

Rolling down the window, Jenna poked her head out of the car and shouted over at Luke.
"Hey! You need to get off the streets!"
She paused. If she were to shout at the stranger about the living dead attacking people he'd probably just think she was crazy, as well as a bad driver.
"People are attacking each other! You need to get somewhere safe!"

“I…really? You aren’t tricking me like you did back at Teal Creek are you?” He said almost in disbelief but she seemed genuine, he was so happy until his phone vibrated along with Lilly’s. It said something about a quarantine and how they needed to meet at the middle school. “Hmm…ya let’s go, do you think this has anything to do with that patient that was on the news before? He then locked the store doors and made his way over to the middle school with Lilly.
She took his hand and followed him to the school. "The...town seems creepier now..hardly any one walking around.." Lily stuck close to Marcus. Happy for the recent events, but worried about events to come. What ever they need to go into quarantine for, it could be in the air now.. they could be infected or in some other terrible danger. "What do you think is happening? I haven't heard about anything...I've been in class all day.." She looked at him a bit worriedly.

The feeling of dread was swelling up in her chest, what could be brewing around here. She wanted to ask more questions but doubted Marcus had any answers. There was a bit of comfort in holding his hand. The gold bracelet bouncing against her wrist. The street was still eerily void of people. May some would rather hold up in there homes and stores.. the school came in to view, perhaps answers will be there. At least thre was more people heading towards the school, not so eerie after all. He looked over, the car stopped. He looked at the girls inside and their..dog? Well it was better than what he had just witness. His phone buzzed in his pocket. Ignoring it he nodded at them, "Alright." Luka hopped into the car, it was a bit cramped. "There... I don't know what I saw but...I'm not crazy trust me...a dead guy...attacked me...?' He looked at them. hoping they'd believe him. He wasn't usually affected by irrational emotions but seeing that guy..that thing.. rattled him.

His eyes fell onto the dog. they narrowed at the canine, as if communicating something beyond words with the canine. His hand went out and patted it's head. Luka decided to like this pooch. [/div]

Collette “Colt” Stanhope
The ungodly screech of Colt’s phone rang through the woman’s whisky sodden mind like a fire alarm. The woman groaned as she sat up, holding onto her head as it thumped in her hands. What was she doing last night? The empty wine bottle and whisky on her sideboard gave her the answer.

What did this stupid machine want? Lifting the phone she looked at the annoyingly bright screen. The middle school? Why would they go there for quarantine? What was going on? With a sigh, Colt sat up. She reached to her sideboard and took her nerve medication. She either took these or she'd be screaming in agony over the pain in a limb that was not even there.

Christ she hated this. She glared at the prosthetic leaning on the wall next to her bed. Now she saw it she remembered what had caused this hangover. She wore shorts the day before when going out (the rarity that she did) to the shops. And she heard the one phrase from a snotty nosed kid that she hated more than anything else.

Mommy, what happened to that girl’s leg?

Just when she was having a somewhat good day too… if that little snorter knew anything about what she had done before losing her leg he wouldn't have said any of that. Not just kids, but even other bloody adults! Why couldn't people just have respect?

Ugh…” she really didn't want to go the middle school for this stupid quarantine but, what was the harm in it? Might be interesting to see these pampered idiots suffer for once. Then again, whenever these things say “this is not a drill” it usually was. Unless your bunker was being ambushed with grenades. The corner of the woman’s mouth twitches a little at the thought. Where was her flask?

Colt (after taking four aspirin for her hangover) glanced out of her window as she ate the rest of the vindaloo she had ordered the night before. The last of three portions. Her apartment was littered with them. Old takeaway boxes and bottles of all shapes and sizes dominated whatever ornaments Colt may have had around the apartment. What could she say, the woman liked vindaloo and most kinds of alcohol. As she ate, there was something that caught her attention. Lots of people seemed to be running in a panic.

Collette shook her head a little. She was pretty sure it was just some dumb drill. Still… better to be safe than sorry. Grabbing her rucksack, she started packing.

You always liked those dumb apocalypse flicks, Sasha.” She looked at the small photo frame of the photo of both her and Sasha in their marine colours before putting it in the rucksack , “We could have made a bet.” She sighed as she packed her COLT 45, a flashlight and some other essentials. Which included her flask that lived in her back pocket, having been filled to the brim and she had put the rest of the bottle in her rucksack.

Once she had attached her leg, Colt left her apartment, wearing her denim jeans, camouflage jacket and cap. As she walked, there was an ever slightly noticeable limp. It drove her mental. Unscrewing her flask, despite her hangover, she took a long drink out of it. As she did, she glanced to the side just in time to see a kid getting into someone’s car, talking about… a dead guy attacking him?

wait!” She raised a hand, having to step back to regain her balance. She screwed the top of her flask back on, “is that what people are freaking out over?” Colt has dealt with people shooting, stabbing, stuff she really didn’t want to remember… but never something like this?

Taking another drink from her flask, Collette signed, “whatever this is, some middle school won’t be able to handle it.” She grumbled as she took out her gun. Seems this was going to be worse than expected. Good thing she had whisky.

"It's not crazy, kid. Well it is. But it also isn't. The dead are walking around munching on the living. Goddamn zombie outbreak or some shit. And yes, that's a dumb way to describe it but..."
She shrugged "I haven't got any better words. So I'm going with zombie till someone throws a better word in the ring."

She took a deep breath and was about to press her foot to the pedal. She still wasn't used to driving on the wrong side of the road, but this was the first time she'd nearly been in an accident. Well, one that would have been her fault at least. A few people had cut her off or nearly hit the rental as she'd gone from state to state. The freeways were organised chaos, but when it came to country roads it was basically an every person for themselves type of situation.

No different from back home, really.
As she was about to press her foot to the pedal, she heard somebody shouting. Given that the dog was now lying on the floor, there was only really room for one more person in the car. It would be cramped, but that was much better than the alternative.
"I'm not going to the middle school. I'm-we're heading to the edge of town where I'm staying. Got to treat a German Shepherd with glass in it's paw and warn my followers that dead people are running around."

She noticed the limp as the woman walked over, but if she was injured it was hidden by her jeans.
"Are you hurt? I'm not a doctor, but I'm a qualified veterinarian." She offered a smile

Doctor Ralph Fisher: En-Route to Police Station
700-00439956en_Masterfile.jpg
Everyone seemed to be going in the opposite direction from Ralph. A few passers-by had mentioned the middle-school. If the entire town, aside from those already dead was heading to one location there would be a bit of chaos involved. Another bullet the parasite had in it's loaded gun, of course. If anyone got inside that was already infected, it could turn into a bloodbath.

All the more reason why he needed to hurry. Sure, it would take a while for the CDC to send people to help but at the very least they could talk to the police on Fisher's behalf, and give him some authority to manage the situation before it escalated. With the state the hospital was in, he was sure that at least one hundred people were dead, or infected. Possibly more, a lot more.

As he ran around a corner, passing by a family of four a horrifying thought hit him like a punch to the gut.
In the morgue, the dead bodies had gotten back up and he'd assumed the parasite behaved in a similar way to cordyceps. Perhaps a crossing of the species barrier? After all, human DNA was chemically similar to ants, it was the sequencing that was completely different. Otherwise humans would have evolved antennae. A scary thought in of itself.
He good a close look at the infected as they tried to tear out his throat, and at the bodies in the morgue when they were dormant. There was no sign of any kind of fungus or growths on any of the bodies. So how the hell did the parasite spread? The obvious answer was something Fisher kicked himself for not thinking of earlier: It was airborne. It had to be.

He'd been so caught up in contacting the CDC or just staying alive that he'd missed something so painfully obvious, and now he'd just given the parasite more ammo for it's gun.
It wouldn't just be the dead in the hospital's morgue, but every funeral home. Hell, even some nursing homes had a very small morgue for their dead and many people held wakes for the dead within their own homes. Anyone who died in Aurora would get back up and attack a living person.
In the USA alone, somebody died of heart disease every forty seconds. If the parasite wasn't contained, or nothing was done then the entire country could fall within the next few weeks.

He picked up the pace, running around the corner to the police station with his badge in hand and sweat tricking down his face.

This couldn’t possibly be the start of some creepy zombie apocalypse right? Maybe those people were just seeing things...best to stay away from them. "I'm...sure it'll be fine, I heard its safety precautions for some sick guy at the hospital we will be fine... I think." He seemed to get worried himself just thinking about what the people in the distance said. Marcus made his way to the school getting closer and noticing more people gathering to the entrance. "I guess we go inside?" He asked.
