Experiences What was your worst roleplay experience?

My worst experience was a couple years ago when Google+ was used pretty often for roleplaying. I was having a pretty interesting rp with someone, and it was all fine and dandy. Then without warning, their character rapes my character. Like wtf? This came completely out of nowhere without warning, and did not even remotely fit into the plot of the rp. Not to mention they didn't ask to make sure I was comfortable with it.

I dropped out of that like a hot rock

Anyways how about you guys?

Wow... That's incredibly gross. I'm willing to bet that's neither the first nor the last time that person did that. Sounds kind of like they used you to play out a fantasy. Awful...

Mine was not nearly so bad in comparison, but it still irks me to this day. I used to RP a bit on a MMO-type site. One day I agreed to start a 1x1 with a person who had an oddly specific RP request (many years later, I started to suspect it was a fetish thing for them). It started off pretty well, but eventual this person started nagging me after every post that I needed to make my posts longer. I was writing a solid several paragraphs a turn, which was honestly the best I could do considering the RP was still pretty early on and there wasn't much to respond to. It wouldn't have been so irritating if my partner could back up their complaints. They couldn't. They managed to write slightly longer posts than mine, but every paragraph was essentially the same, just written in slightly different ways. I tried to subtly argue that I was trying to write longer posts, but content couldn't be sacrificed for length. That didn't stop them from scolding me every time, nor did it convince them to put more effort into their own posts. Eventually, their nagging and the repetition of it all got the best of me. I completely stopped using the site. Haven't logged on in years. It had stopped being fun, anyway.

Oh heavens, the worst experience I have ever experienced while Role playing? I have to think on it, as I had quite a few.

The worst one that I can literally feel my blood boil was when I was attempting to do multiple characters for the first time. I had 2 OC's at the time, and there was 8 members in the RP. The GM was keeping the RP moving pretty smoothly, and it was a scientific lab one where GM was an owner of several lab subjects (which was us participants). He had a rule that all RPers had to have a male for every female and vice versa, so we all either had 2 or more characters. Another rule he had was no romance at all. You can be friends, but no kissing or anything along those lines as they said that they wanted to make this RP very comfortable for all ages- which I was fine with.

Anyways, we were role playing, and my OC Sein was in a swimming pool with a few other characters in the lab and they all were just lounging around and relaxing before they had to go to their cells. Of course, my OC Sein was a playful guy who acts childish a lot of times So, to stay in character, I tried to interact with another RPer (let's just call her Jamie as I can't remember her name as it was a mixture of letters) by having him look at her girl OC, swim over to her, and precede to grab her shoulders while exclaiming 'Gotcha' to her. During the time, Jamie was not interacting with anyone, so I was attempting to bring her into the RP as no one was interacting with her characters.

By god, my character touched her character!

Next thing I knew, I got an OOC response by her that said 'I'm going to report you!'

So I asked 'What happened?'. During that time, I was replying to another character, so there was more words underneath my OOC response. And I was also confused as heck because she had other people she was talking to with her one other character so I didn't know who she was talking about. She verified that it was me she was talking to.

She took my character's grabby hands as rape, and she precedes to use all caps at me telling me that I broke the rules and should not be in this RP as I broke the rules and I was trying to rape her character. I tried to calmly talk to her, but it didn't work real well. I was lucky enough to have other people come on and back me up to help get her to stop yelling at me and just enjoy the RP with all of us. By then, the owner of the RP got on and he was just as confused as me. He asked what was going on, and I explained it to him. Of course, she said that I was lying and tried to bend my words. Well, my back up during that time had diminished and they went back to RPing instead of worrying about the drama.

Guess what GM's solution to this was? Stay out of it. He was smart, I'll give him that, but I didn't know what to do. I didn't want people having to see the explosion from a kid trying to be power happy, and I didn't want her to take it out more and start spamming me. So, I had to leave the RP.

All in all, that was my first experience with doing multiple characters. While I am not shy from doing multiple character Rps, I can't help to remember this experience. The only thing good I got from the situation is that I happily went away from one line answers and went to be more descriptive in my responses!

Hm... That does sound like a bit of an overreaction. Sorry you felt like you had to back out. =\ That's not fun.

Yeah, it was. To this day, the only idea I have that could of made her think that is if she read someone else's response and mixed it with mine and took it entirely wrong. Other than that, I have no clue where the rape factor came from. The RP was fun till that happened, but I guess there is good and bad parts in RPing and you either take it or leave it. Though, I did see your worse experience. I have never had that happen, but gosh! I don't think I have ever experienced that before. I can see why you quit the RP and the site. I'm surprised you kept your cool and didn't blow up at them to explain that they need to back off some, or all the way. They asked to RP with you, so they should understand your RP style and accept that your way of RPing is different than theirs. They should of never begin to nag at you because of you not meeting their standards.

Thanks. I don't know if I'd say it was worse, but it was certainly obnoxious. In all honestly, I didn't mind that they had standards. I just don't think we ever really discussed it beforehand, as far as I remember, and the fact that they were so unwilling to compromise was really frustrating. It might not have been so bad had their own replies set a good example for me to feed off of and follow.

But at least I learned what to look for in a potential partner, and what kind of questions to ask (and tell) regarding preferences.

I don't think I've had a lot of super bad experiences, myself. Probably because I'm a little picky when it comes to choosing an RP partner, and will flee the scene if I see any red flags.

There was this one RP partner that just ticked me off because they moved through the story far too fast. They came to me with a pretty decent plot which sounded like it had the potential to be a really nice, enjoyable adventure story. But we started off with my character essentially getting kidnapped and held in place without her having any say in the matter whatsoever. She was forced together with this other person (Which she hated, but had no say in the matter) to essentially save the world, and we suddenly just kind of... Did that. We went and defeated a monster, and the roleplay was done within 3 pages. I was pissed because I barely got to do anything, and they were just kinda off creating their own short story, not giving me any time to reply or participate. I was really proud of my character, too, so I was also pissed that she didn't get a little more development. She hardly got the chance to do anything.

If you want to make a short story on your own, buddy, then go on ahead. You don't need me stickin' around in your way.

That's a bummer. I had a partner who was clearly just dragging me along for the ride while they played out their own fan fiction, but nothing quite so aggressive. Did you ever use that character for anything else? Would be a shame for a character you liked to go to waste.

Yeah, it was less than 5 pages long aggressive. I kinda felt like they just wanted to get away from me or something, but I acknowledge that that could be just anxiety talking.

I do still have that character, though! I try to use her when I can, but unfortunately, I haven't found the RP that's worked out. And when I do have a promising RP in my hands, medical issues get in the way and it ends up getting dropped. :/
She's got an interesting set of abilities that actually have consequences that could endanger her. Heck, I even did the artwork for her myself. Sucks that I can't use her in much.

A pretty bad experience I've had in a role play was actually one of my first attempts at horror, long story short I was a Frankenstein gone wrong and my character was trying to kill it's creator after years of being used. Buddy boi that I was with realizes halfway through the role play (even though I specifically wrote in the rules that his character WILL DIE if he doesn't kill me) that he doesn't want to die and attempts to make this a monster romance, multiple times I try to not so subtly remind him that this is not a romance play but he kept making moves so eventually I opted to just go for a quick kill to end the role play.

Buddy boi sent me a " ;-; how cruel " and I never looked back.

I relate a little too much to this one. I'm so sick of romance in roleplays but seem to never escape it

This is why i also avoid romance RPs like a plague, many never understand the "no, i don't do that", and most of the time, it's just an excuse to grab the attention of people..

i remember a girl who either does that, or start a drama over nothing important (just randomn celebrity disliking animes),
the more she overracted, the more i get annoyed and dropped the RP without warning.

Combination of things led to a pokemon 1x1 turning very unpleasant.
-Dude throws me a zero backstory character with even less personality and a kingdom hearts name. Fine, I'm reasonable. Go ahead, probably was in a hurry. Spaghetti-o's getting cold & whatnot.
-He wants his character to be league champ (also strongest trainer in the world because his character's so awesome and mine is so not.) sigh Sure man, whatever. You can be the champion even though they'd forfeit their title if they don't defend it. I'll let it go. This isn't canon, not trying to pretend it is.
-His character insults mine and calls her stupid, correcting her misidentification of one of her pokemon. (Then is confused as to why she's not falling in love with his character. Because he's so cool and edgy she's supposed to think it's charming)
-He abuses meta knowledge available only within inner monologued thoughts, and the character sheet. He then forces my character to have a Bulbasaur when she's supposed to be a lucky idiot with a blind Pikachu and a shiny Magikarp she thinks is a Goldeen. groan Okay, I'm still on board.
-My new Bulbasaur speaks English and makes references to HP Lovecraft. Dude flips his shit and tells me I don't know anything about pokemon, and I'm not taking it seriously. Like, bruh with all the crap you just pulled, if I wanted to bring in Vegeta, a Digimon, and the cast of the Hobbit, you should stfu and take it, because it's still less bogus than what you just put me through.

Ugh, that's the worst! How does anyone not realize that's not okay?

A group RP I once joined had a person in it who did that constantly. I tried to subtly nudge them by saying things like, 'How did she know what she was thinking? It was like she was reading her mind,' in the narrative parts. They didn't catch on until I confronted them directly...

Haha, brilliant! At that point, why not?

I had partners like that, i can tell you that their characters were "killed" in the next minute.

The worst roleplay experience I had was when my partner at the time had a Mary Sue character that had almost every single possibly bad thing in the world happen to her. That character could do absolutely nothing. She was clumsy and useless and everyone/thing was out to basically make her life harder or hurt her in some way. And then when my partner went as far as to have her get raped and pregnant, it just absolutely ruined the whole thing for me.

It was very draining and irritating to deal with this partner who insisted on this character being her favorite for some reason. I was losing my mind. I no longer roleplay with this person.

The BeckyfireDisclaimer ; I don't actually remember the girls name so we'll just call her Becky.

So I met Becky originally in a Flash AU RP that I was a mod for. The GM and I were actually creating three different roleplays across a shared universe based on the CW Shows. We started with the Flash TV show, we added in Supergirl TV Show, and I think we were doing a Elseworld's Style Batman AU as well.

But the Flash AU rp was the flagship of the shared universe and the one that I joined first. I played a Henchwoman to the main Villain as well as Kid Flash. Becky applied to play the Flash himself. Now he was kinda integral to the plot ( being the protagonist ) so maybe we shot ourselves in the foot by letting an unvetted role player take him. But well GM and I were both new and figured anyone wanting to join our little nerdy corner would have some passing familiarity with the show.

So Becky gets the Flash. And proceeds to light the roleplay ON FIRE with bad writing, whining privilege, and just a general attitude like this was her roleplay and she could do whatever she wanted.

First she didn't want to use a picture of the actor playing the character in the show. Despite the fact that EVERYONE else was doing this Becky wanted to do this hand drawn stick figure of a different character anyway.

When the GM put their foot down on this she moved to complaint number two. The one paragraph requirement for posting as well as the third person perspective. Again this is in the rules and also EVERYONE else is already posting like this. But Becky wanted to post shorter replies in first person. Because of that sweet sweet Becky Privilege apparently.

GM once again put their foot down. Like no follow the rules or leave.

So Becky begrudgingly decides to do the bare minimum. By which I mean all her posts were basically rainbow colored copy and pasted recaps of the previous posts in the roleplay. With maybe a few extra words like " He said yes, or He ran here " added in.

Technically they were in third person and more than a paragraph. It wasn't new content but GM was like " Um I guess I didn't say it had to be?" And I'm like " Because it's sort of common sense?"

Becky was allowed to remain in the Flash RP but I was on my guard.

She didn't try to join the Supergirl roleplay, not her cup of tea. But oooh boy did she have a lot of ideas for the Elseworld's Batman spin off. Like she basically wanted to make a Gotham City RP where the main focus was a villain romance where she placed both characters.
To which I responded : Not going to happen please leave my rp.

Not really a rp experience, but dammit does it make my blood boil every time I recall it.
So there were me, the DM, and 2 players, discussing the rules and our chars and all that.
  • I said I wanted to be a blacksmith, and showed them my own weapon designs as "proof". They simply ignored all that and changed the topic, like I wasn't even there.
  • They showed pics of their chars and seemed to be really interested in the arts. The DM only had commissions, I think... and one other player only showed pics of a wyvern in the game Monster Hunter. Not even original art. I showed mine and they just said nothing. Literally.
  • We talked about how players could handle themselves in a fight in the rp. That Monster Hunter guy had electric claws, the other player could control... bees ? I don't remember, to be exact. Point is, the DM really liked their ideas. But, when I talked about mine (just some weapon conjuration, nothing OP or game-breaking), they simply said nothing. Like, literally. Not a single word in response to what I said.
  • I pm'd the DM and talked with her about my previous rp experience with godmod people, then learned about her char being some sort of godlike being whose power and duty is to move the sun and moon to keep the cycle of day and night going. She's also worshipped by the locals, too. I asked for her feedbacks about my char's power, and she snapped at me as "too overpowered". She even tried to correct me something like "blood magic is not necromancy, look it up". Whatever.
    • I told her those powers were all my original ideas, and she got really pissed, saying that I blatantly copied the shouts from Skyrim. I said it's still my original idea to use the infrasound and ultrasound to make something similar to the shouts (because I don't think anyone has ever thought of that yet, at all), and she acted like she was gonna drag me to the court.
    • I said sorry, she said ok, so I thought we were done with that topic, and decided to talk about something else. I told her sometimes I had lots of troubles with rp's because english isn't my native language, so there'd be times I couldn't get the idea... she said I was being manipulative, because apparently she was still pissed, and thought I was trying to avoid her.
  • I left the rp, and the Monster Hunter wyvern player pm'd me something like, "you know what's great ? being good looking", which was referring to the comments he got for his char in the server earlier. I replied, "better if you can draw your own arts". He said, "no, better if you're not a salty cracker, because I can get commissions"... at this point, I was 1 millimeter away from insulting him about his disability, but I just blocked him instead.

Oh god . That sounds horrible.

My worse rp experience was when I started back on 3ds ..anyone know that place called Miiverse. Yeah I hated that...only thirty posts a day. And sometimes you couldn't even write a lot down in those post because they had a 100 work limit . But as I was saying. I joined an rp late. And as soon as I joined ..I was greeted by cancerous kids who were trying to pick up dates or something like that. I left that and never went back to miiverse.
Yo, that happened to me a lot on MiiVerse when it was still around... thank goodness the site shutdown!!

I once RP’d with a guy who wanted to fulfill his incest fetish...

I agree and i'm glad that Miiverse was shut as well, that was a kinda fine site with lots of messed up people,
also.. ew... incest.. seriously..

On Quotev (Which I still rp on but it’s RARE to get a good one, like E.Coli RAREEE.) there was this person who wanted to rp an apocalyptic scenario with me, I said sure because I’m always a slut for an apocalypse. We exchanged ideas and decided that for the sake of getting into the rp quicker to just do a zombie apocalypse akin to one like the walking dead and fear the walking dead. It was all good and dandy until they immediately wanted to do smut. Mind you, I was around 13 at the time and barely knew about smut. I knew about sex but I didn’t understand why people would roleplay that. So I was hesitant, eventually they manipulated me into it and they straight up made our characters SCISSOR. Literally. Fucking. Scissor. I’m not joking and I really wish I was. Then they had their character have a piss fetish and it all went downhill and they kept guilt tripping me into doing what they wanted. I wanted to leave the rp so bad but they kept harrassing me through DMs until I deactivated my old (oldest) account. It broke my heart to do it but I had to or else they’d just make another account and keep messaging me about “our apocalypse roleplay” which eventually just became them dragging the roleplay along with my uncomfortable ass barely replying and only doing so when they were able to manipluate me into it. I’m still mad about it and feel a little violated to this day. This is the first time I’ve told people about this ?

Still a shame from this guy, plus, i don't get how smut could fit in a TWD themed RP..

You're welcome, i do have played to some TWD games, most of the times, the characters were only in a move, so it's a mystery how smut would fit, like, at all..
Mood, our characters weren’t exactly Maggie and Glenn, and after a while it just turned into the person’s own cesspool of fetish and nasty ?? and I got dragged along because back then I was too afraid of hurting peoples feelings ??

Don't be afraid to tell that you don't want that, it's not normal to drag people like that..
