Multiple Settings All Your Powers (CONCLUDED & READABLE: For more info, PM! This may make a comeback!)

Uh, Wamba Juice is a perfectly acceptable drink to be having with friends these days - whether or not that trend's gotten old years ago - and I do not appreciate the implied insult on something that's more than a smoothie.

You better believe I'm about to make number 2 happen.

Wamba Juice / Mauman I
Wamba Juice

Mia looked straight at him for a solid second. Of course, he didn't get impatient or anything. "Alright, we'll go for a drink. May we exchange names? I'm Mia."

Karter's stare traveled over Mia. "Mia, hm? You're not from Keptro, are you? That's an uncommon name in the city, despite how popular is it in the world. I'm Karter." He cracked a smile and stepped back, giving Mia some room to move. "Shall we? I gotta come back to pick up Collin. He can't drive."

Mia chuckled and started to walk with Karter towards the nearby Wamba Juice. "That makes a lot of sense, actually. He was walking around when I met him for the second time. And don't make fun of people who can't drive! I don't even have a car!" She crossed her arms.

Karter gave a faint smile, then his expression turned to one of deep thought. The rest of the walk was going to be a fairly silent one. Collin, what are you so worried about? This chick is broke, doesn't seem too smart, and doesn't actually seem that bad.

After five minutes of awkward silence, Mia opened the door for Karter to Wamba Juice. His expression didn't really change from what it was earlier. "I don't know if you know a thing about social customs, but usually it's the guy who opens the door for us. Just for that, you're paying for my drink. Get me a mango slushie." Mia smirked and took a seat at the far table, leaning back on the chair, almost to the point of tipping.

Karter didn't really do a thing to warn her about it. He was still deep in thought. Tell me, Mia, how did you mess things up with-

"Next!"

The Wamba Juice employee called Karter up. She nearly choked when she saw Karter's face, stumbling back a little bit.

"I'd like a large mango slushie and a large Kale smoothie." (ಠ益ಠ)

"Woah what happened to your face? And...order coming right up!" (ō_ō`)

Within a few moments, Karter walked to the table and set down the drinks. He sat down across from Mia and leaned in a little bit, resting his head on his hands. "So, Mia, when did you come here?"

Mia shrugged and started on her slushie. "A little over a week. I'm still trying to figure out what's going on in the city."

Karter gave a slight grin and took a sip of the kale smoothie. "That's interesting. Y'know, I know this awesome place. It's about an hour's bus ride, but the view is to die for! It's really shows how close Keptro is to the Mauman desert and to the sea. This city's amazing!"

"Heh, it's definitely something." Mia chuckled nervously, finishing the rest of her slushie within the next few seconds. "If you'll excuse me, I gotta use the ladies' room."

Mia stood up and began to walk off, only to be yanked backwards a little bit. Karter was holding her by the arm. His bold green eyes were aimed straight at Mia, and even seemed to glow a little bit. "I'll be waiting outside."

Once Mia left, Karter took the mostly unfinished Kale smoothie and chucked it into the trash can. If only you could see this shit, Collin. She is totally normal.
. . .

"Karter! I'm back!" Mia stepped out of the Wamba Juice store, this time avoiding Karter's arm length a little bit. Her face was a bit red, and her left hand clutched her arm. "Hey, that slushie was great. I've never had Wamba Juice before today! Shall we head back?"
"Yes, good idea. We should head back."

As the two neared the gym, a higher voice echoed around the area.

"Karter!" A girl stepped out from behind the gym with a friendly grin on her face. It was none other than Rena. Mia narrowed her eyes. She definitely looked young. With long, reddish blonde hair and solid pink eyes, she looked rather different. She was short, but by no means did she look like a child. Did she wear colored contacts? "It's nice meeting you here! Is this your friend? She's cute!" Rena giggled and went over to shake Mia's hand.

Karter immediately stepped in and slapped the girl's hand, hard. Rena yelped, and glanced down at her hand. A bruise started to form where Karter had hit her. "K-Karter...what the hell?"
"No. Touching. Not her."

Mia stepped back and watched the scene unfold. It was all starting to make sense now. Not once did Karter make contact with Mia's hands, and not once did he let the girl touch Mia.

They knew about her powers.

Mia went over to grab Karter by the hand. Karter reacted immediately. He grabbed Mia's wrist and twisted her arm behind her back, spinning her around and holding her tightly.
"Ack! Let go! What the hell?"

"It's the copycat. Perhaps you enjoy that name over Mia, hm? Rena, take her phone."

"What the hell are you talking about?!" Mia tried to elbow Karter in the stomach, only to have her other arm grabbed. Using an ability while being unregistered, in public, would be no good. "You have the wrong person!"

The girl glanced at Mia. Mia glared back. Rena flinched a little bit. "Sorry, it's because of Collin, don't be mad at me!"
"This is twisted! Coldskin is some hero!"

Her eyes began to glow. She thrusted her hand against Mia's pants, and it simply went right through. Bit by bit, the cell phone began materializing on the other side of Mia's pocket along with the part of Rena's hand

"Got it."

Karter smiled. "Leave it here for Collin. As for us, let's make a trip Mauman."

Mia's eyes widened. That was the desert that he was talking about earlier! Rena stepped forwards, her eyes still glowing. She palmed Mia's forehead.

. . .

Mauman, Part I
The world started to spin. Mia's vision blacked out, and then everything went silent. She blinked once and attempted to turn on the shockshield. Nothing happened. All she could see ahead of herself was a dark space, scattered with small, glowing pink particles. A small bit of light scattered from what looked like the end of the dark space. The light moved back, then thrusted forwards at high speeds.

Mia tried to scream, but nothing came out. It was impossible to breathe in here.

The agony soon ended with a bang, and the howling desert winds replaced the sounds of the city and the dark space. Mia gasped, clutching a handful of hot sand. The fine grains pressed against her body, causing immediate discomfort due to the heat. The air was dry. Everything was dry.

"Karter, we're just going to do what Collin said, right?" Rena stepped back, trying to keep her distance from Mia. Mia was able to get a glance of Rena. Her body looked different. Patches of darkness covered her skin. They began to dissipate slowly into pink particles.

Karter grinned and went over to Mia. "Correct!"

"GHK!" Mia's chest felt as if it collapsed. Air was forced out of her body as she rolled several meters away from Karter. Combined with the lightheaded feeling of being forcibly teleported into the desert and the heat, a kick to the stomach was the last thing Mia needed. She coughed. The feeling of nausea came over her like a wave.

"Okay, I think she's-"
"Not yet."

Karter raised his hand, his fingers curled slightly inwards. A ball of red electricity formed on his palm. The ball of energy buzzed louder as it grew in size. "You know, I'm really pissed 'bout Collin. He could've done this on his own."

Mia slowly turned her head to face Karter. "C-Coldskin...is a really piece of shit. Using his friends to attack someone who one-upped that edgelord once."

Karter grinned. "Oh shit, you gonna fight or somethin'?"

Mia nodded. "Yes."

1. Mia activates Trust's ability and uses it to close the gap between herself and Karter (20 meters). Take advantage of the strength boost and punch him as hard as possible, before he can shoot the electricity. For now, go on the offensive and try to prevent Karter from attacking at all.
2. Mia activates Trust's ability and uses it to dodge the electrical attack. After dodging, Mia switches to Coldskin's ability to minimize damage. Stay on the defensive for now, and make this fight as one-sided as possible. Karter is the bad guy, not Mia. Make sure that neither Mia nor Karter gets hurt too much.
3. Attempt to copy Rena's ability (she's standing about 45 meters away) and use it in the fight. This has a high chance of failing, but Rena's ability seems to be pretty amazing to begin with.

[A/N: Hello! I promise I won't have author notes for the rest of Mauman (which could be anywhere from 4 to 6 parts, depending on your choices). Anyways, it seems as though everything escalated so quickly, right? Well, that's bound to happen when Karter's around (>_>). Anyways, your choices are now super important as they'll determine how the fight ends! I'm still trying to find a name for this arc for archiving purposes. I'm thinking of calling it the "Welcome to Keptro" arc. What do you guys think? Let me know. You guys can also discuss this in the lounge! Once again thanks, for being a part of this Quest RP! It wouldn't be possible without your participation!]

Wait, I'm super confused, didn't they both touch us?

Mia acquires powers through touching others (her palm makes contact with their skin). She wasn't given the opportunity to touch either of them, as Karter avoided her and Rena simply grabbed her head while she was restrained by Karter. Therefore she didn't acquire the abilities of either. I should've made that clear from the start with some sort of demonstration, my apologies.

I'd like to pick 2 and play things safe here, but I also want to see what happens if we four-part this situation, so I'm going 3 - the Rena powers have got us covered this time.

Ah, so it has to be the palm. I thought all touching was enough.

Hmmm... I really want to get us more powers, so I'll take a gamble and vote 3

What!?! No 1's? It seems super bad ass to me.

3 is out of the question for me, here's why: In order for us to gain that power, we would have to make physical contact with Rena, however, her power allows her to "ghost" thereby avoiding our touch even if we got close enough. She also seems to have so teleporting powers, which gives her another option to avoid us by teleporting either herself or us away. Seeing that she is already aware of our powers and thus actively avoiding physical contact, the 40 meters is an insurmountable distance. (The fact that this has a high chance of failing certainty doesn't help)

2 is a little bit better, but still not the optimal choice for me. There are too many unknown variables here: Such as whether we can dodge the electricity (keep in mind Trust's power also increases our mass, and that the electricity can travel to near the speed of light, so dodging it seems insane) and the extent to which Coldskin's power will protect us considering that Karter's volts exceed 20,000 PSI and that even a mere knife swung by a common criminal was able to pierce our skin. (In Mia's words, her "powers [are] really weak") This makes sense as Coldskin is considered a weak hero, so our version of his powers should stand no chance against 20, 000 PSI. It is also worth noting that electricity usually causes damage beyond direct damage, so we risk the chance of being burned or even paralyzed through nerve damage, among other dangers. Considering that both Rena and Karter's powers seem to be mainly offensive, it is suicide to think that we can survive using a purely defensive strategy.

That leaves only Option 1. This is by far the best option from a strategic standpoint as it utilizes a very potent weapon: the element of surprise. As the audience, we are aware of everyone's thoughts, and Karter has made it repeatedly clear that he does not view us as a threat, looking down on us even more than Coldskin did. His arrogance could very well be his undoing if we decide to utilize this advantage and strike first. Based on Trust's top speed of 140 miles/hour, it would take 1.118468146 seconds for us to reach Karter, which is probably not enough time for either Karter or Rena to react (ok, human reaction times are around 200ms, but this still gives us a better chance than the other options, and we hopefully have some plot armour to protect us), especially since they believe we are incapable of fighting back in any manner. Regardless, once we pushed off, our momentum would be pretty much unstoppable, and should take Karter out of the fight. At this point, we would be dealing solely with Rena, which sounds a lot less threatening than having to deal with two supers. What really convinced me to choose this option was the fact that Rena was hesitant to hurt us, and is essentially only doing so because Karter forcefully decided for her. This, coupled with the way Karter has been treating her actually gives me some hope that Rena will agree to stop fighting us once Karter is out of the picture and maybe even decide to join us, as she certainly looks out of place among the morally corrupt duo.

This actually took me quite a while to write and do the research for, so hopefully this will inspire some of you to change your choices or at least further the discussion.

Hmmm.... you almost got me convinced, except for one small detail you may have forgotten: Karter knows that we have coldskin's ability. By rushing to him we have the element of surprise there, but ultimately he will be counting on us using coldskin's ability. Now consider that he was introduced as "an upgraded version of coldskin" and that he has shown to be profecient in self-defense combat. We would likely get a punch... followed by getting a zap of eletricty at point blank range in our head.

So there is a risk with option 1 as well. Plus even if we pick 3 we still have the element of surprise. I do agree that 2 is wrong though, as in addition to what you've said, we can't forget the whole fatigue business.

And now the cherry on top of the cake, while there is, admitedly , a bigger risk in picking 3, there is also a considerably greater reward. Teleportation is an amazing way to get us out of binds. It's an assured failsafe should we find ourselves outmatched in anything except speed.

Can I join this? I never tried these "quest" roleplays, but the friend that recommended me to this site said I might like them. I'm not entirely sure how it Works even. Do we just vote?
Yep, ya're free to join! quest roleplays are like "choose your own adventure" books, one players writes and gives options, the others choose

Welcome aboard! As a player, you do vote on specific options based on the ones the author (me!) provides in each post. Once in a while, some quest authors like to provide a "Write-in" option as well, where you're free to write what the character does/says, and that's about the most writing you'll have to do. Quests are a fun and easy way to participate in a roleplay!

You chose a nice time to join as well. We're still relatively early on in the roleplay. I highly recommend reading from the start, but if that seems overwhelming, you don't have to do that at all! As long as you have learned that Mia Steele has recently moved to a big city and learned that she can copy and store the superpowers of anyone she touches, we should have no problem integrating you into our voting body!

(I was working on this this morning, but I sort of lost motivation, midway through. I'll post it anyways as I think I still covered a few good points, and I'll see if I can add to it later if I have time/feel the motivation to do it.)
Yes, that is all part of my consideration. For now, the only power we possess that Karter is aware of is Coldskin’s power, and it is likely that he has not even considered the possibility of us having copied additional powers, based on his assessment that even Coldskin would be able to take us down and his arrogant attitude up to this point. He also mentioned that if we only have Coldskin’s power, we would be an easy fight, so his indifferent attitude seems to suggest that he believes we only have Coldskin’s powers. However, choice 1 actually relies on using Trust’s powers, something that Karter has likely never been exposed to before and thus would not know how to counter. I completely agree with your assessment that using Coldskin’s powers should be out of the question, since Karter is extremely familiar with it and likely knows how to counter it effectively – something that he would do as soon as our eyes flash grey. Thus, Option 2, which relies heavily on using Coldskin’s powers to withstand Karter’s onslaught, should certainly be disregarded.

I think that it is highly unlikely that Karter is "an upgraded version of Coldskin". (Unless my memory is failing me again, I don’t recall when he was introduced as such) For one, none of the supers we have encountered so far have the same powers as another super, although I won’t completely discount this possibility based on the fact that Trust and Coldskin initially thought that we had the same powers as him, so perhaps it is more common than we have been shown. However, the fact that his power is the ability to shoot red lightning(with exhaust fumes?) makes it highly unlikely that he would also possess durability powers like Coldskin, since it is completely unheard of for a super to possess multiple powers, which is what makes us so unique.

On the contrary, I don’t think it has been satisfactorily shown that he is proficient in CQC; while he is able to manhandle a girl that has only started to hit the gym and has no combat training at all, his training consisted of shooting his lighting towards “heaps of metal”. This, coupled with the fact that he mentioned that he would be sure to keep away from us when fighting us, shows that he is uncomfortable with us getting close, which perhaps could be something we use to our advantage(really depends on if he freezes in the moment or not). Neither do I think he could stop us with a punch when we are engaging Trust’s power, which both increases our density (and therefore mass) and energy, while giving us strength and speed boosts. Considering that Trust increases his weight to 25,000 pounds and can increase his speed to 140 miles per hour, stopping us would be akin to punching a speeding truck, which he wouldn’t be able to do unless he had a strength enhancing power. (See above paragraph regarding the likelihood of that) That leaves his only defense being his lightning, which despite having a PSI of 20,000, has been shown to focus only on small areas (small holes in heaps of metal), considering that our momentum would be significant (p=mv), his lightning would certainly not be enough to stop us. Even considering the worst case scenario where his lightning has other effects such as temporary paralysis, we would still slam into him, and there is nothing he, or Rena, can do to stop us once we activated Trust’s powers and launched ourselves at him.

Barring some miracle or the appearance of another super, choosing option 1 would almost certainly take Karter out of the fight. (Realistically it would kill him, but some suspension of belief is needed here. Or we could say we held back/Karter’s powers saves him or something.) Once this is achieved, we would attempt to convince Rena to stop attacking us, which is plausible based on the evidence outlined in my previous post. (Hesitation to attack us, Karter’s rude treatment of her, etc.)

My main argument against Option 3 other than it’s low probability is the fact that it is actually high risk, low reward. I think it is significant to note that the distance between us and Rena is actually more than double the distance between us and Karter. This means that they have double the time to react. In addition, since our intention is to copy Rena’s power, we would have to retain a measure of control and precision, which means we cannot go at full speed, further decreasing our chances at success. With Karter not being directly threatened, he would have plenty of time to just shoot us down. I’m also assuming that Rena is somewhere behind Karter, so we would be putting ourselves in a position between our two attackers, which never turns out well except in movies. Ok, let’s say that by some Deus ex Machina, we successfully get to Rena and manage to grab her despite her efforts to ghost or teleport herself or us away, what are we going to with those powers other than avoid attacks or run away. This does not get rid of the fact that Karter will continue to hunt us and if our intention was just to run to live another day, why wouldn’t we just use Trust’s powers and get the hell out of there.

I can't agree with your analysis completely, but I'm convinced.
