Alarmed and Strangerous
This'll mostly be for the benefit of our non discord members, but it might be useful as a more searchable reference point for everyone else. Of course everyone should feel free to chat and ask questions here as they see fit as well.

First order of business will probably be collating a few Q&As and other tidbits from the discord, but shout out if you wanna see something else here.

Q&As
"how human are the harframe looks?"

varies wildly depending on how human the operator wants to look and how much they can afford to spend on it. Top of line custom civilian frames can look like basically whatever their owner wants including being indistinguishable from base line human. At the bottom of the scale are jury rigged scrap frames used by the impoverished and desperate, which look like shitty robots. The average, including the starter frames red queen kits new operators out with is probably somewhere in the uncanny valley, a decent synth skin and facial features that "look" right but are don't quite nail all the subtleties of a living body.

Of course a major factor in this calculus is SDD "self dehumanization disorder" (see the worldbuilding page for more info!) essentially a Frame that makes you feel inhuman puts you at risk of some pretty severe mental health outcomes to say the least. But you don't necessarily have to rely on aesthetics for SDD protection, so you can feel free to look like a killer robot if you spring for other features

"Is nexite mined in the earth? If so, where is it usually found and why was it not discovered earlier?"

nexite was first discovered deep, deep underground in the waning years of the Resource wars by experimental, deep core mining projects trying to wring the last viable deposits of fossil fuels from the earth's crust. Tragically, much of the data surrounding this inital discovery was lost when the mining expedition fell victim to the first recorded outbreak of SERS so many of the finer details of the circumstances under which nexite was discovered were lost.

Rather than being mined, nexite reserves are renewed by relying on its tendency to replicate itself by creating SEROS, suitable biomass can simply be left within the field of an active source of nexite and it will be converted slowly into more nexite through the same process as the SERS condition. Unfortunately the crystals that this controlled process creates are low quality: they decay faster and produce less powerful, more unstable fields. Better quality crystals can be harvested from full blown SEROS, the larger and more powerful the SERO, the better quality its embedded nexite crystals will be. The best crystals of all come from the semi permanent "colonies" where hordes of SEROS dwell and work together to produce massive, crystalline structures of uncertain purpose. Of course incursions into SERO territory to obtain these rare, high quality crystals are hellaciously dangerous.

"are harframes powered by nexite?"

HARframes are generally powered by nexite yes. although civilian frames are sometimes designed with alternate power sources in mind. A popular SDD counterweight augment is a biofuel reactor that will burn consumed food, combined with a simulated sense of taste and hunger. The actual power gains from that kind of setup are fairly minimal, but the satisfaction gained is significant.

"Is nexite blue? Idk if it was stated but I pictured it to be and dunno if im making it up"

I didn't have an answer for this so we held a poll. Nexite is officially purple! Though experiments have begun into unstable variants with different colors and properties.

"When did the SEROs first appear?"

The first recorded SERO encounter was by the team of mining geologists who first discovered nexite when the samples they discovered, which they presumably did not know how to shieldproperly, inflicted SERS on several team members who then turned on the rest of the expedition, killing most of them. This was in the early 2070's, just after the end of the Resource wars. it was probably not until the late 2080s / early 2090s that nexite technology became widespread enough that SEROs became a broadly recognisable phenomenon.

How new is the harframe technology?

about the 2090s as well, it was derived from earlier technologies that were first pioneered during the Resource wars, exo skeletons and hard suits that were developed for the high risk, deep core mining operations that were necessary at the time and the controversial "skeleton crew tanks" and "manned unmanned" drone programs that were trialled by multiple countries on the military side. SO depending on whether you count prototypes and limited runs the date can be argued back and forth a bit

"are there light sabers?"

more common are so called "particle cutters" which have solid blades and cycle a thin stream sorenkoff particles around the edge, somewhat like a futuristic chainsaw in effect.

But someones probably made something pretty close to a lightsabre if that's more your style, sure.

"Do HARframes have built in pain receptors? Or is that part of the synthskin augmentation?"

They have built in sensors for most stimuli with alarm systems for anything that can damage the frame, but they generally translate as "unpleasant" rather than mimicking a true pain response, that would require a different augment

"Anything happening in space during all this?"

Probably some of the bigger megacorps might be playing around with asteroid mining and the like, on a pretty limited scale though

Armoury Notes
"What exactly would be the average for a new recruit in terms of stats? Reading across Rileys CS it's very clear that she's not good at piloting vehicles of any sort which makes sense for a 1, but I figure at the very least everyone gets the basics of training just by virtue of going through Red Queen. So is a 1 essentially knowing how to do something at the most bare bones level? And would a 3 be something like being right around the median?"

So you're right, Riley's 1 in piloting is a worse than the average 1 in a skill, mostly as comedic foil to her otherwise serious nature, I'm giving her a modest nerf for the luls basically. A score of one is ordinarily more a "minimum acceptable competence" something you just scraped a passing grade is and you can handle a basic application of the skill in a pinch. a 2 is merely below average and a 3 is average or a bit above.

A score above 5 is more or less "top marks" , the best results your trainers would reasonably expect to see coming from someone in training.

Scores above 5 are about leveraging real world, battlefield or mission experience, you're starting to gather the little tricks of the trade and a sense of intuition on top of mere training.

Scores above 10 are where you're starting to leverage your nature as a cyborg to perform better than what a baseline human could ever realistically hope to achieve, you can do something at expert level and you can do it with inhuman levels of speed and precision. 20 is probably the realistic cap of what the setting can sustain, though there may be a handful of outliers that push that boundary.

Scores of 0 are possible in the setting for both skills and specs, but for you the player Red Queen basically wouldn't allow you to graduate until you could at least manage of a 1 in everything and scores of 0 are the performance metrics of crappy, jury rigged slum Frames made out of wielded together scrap metal, the company would never put you on the frontlines in a FRAME like that.

Red Nexite: An artificial cousin to Nexite created by NonobaCo. While Red Nexite is mostly considered a failed experiment due to its inability to power anything for long, it shows promise as ammunition given the crystals volatility types when exposed to an electrical current. When charged, Red Nexite can easily pass through sorenkoff particles. However the material quickly loses effectiveness against armored foes.

This is so unique I just wanted to tell you that dude!

Working on my sheet now!

thank you! glad to hear from you. We're looking at starting probably this Sunday, or maybe the monday depending on how things go for me if you want a rough window. We can work you in whenever if you don't finish by then though so don't stress about it.

Just wondering for HARframe model would I try on the world holding that to find one or is this to he preferred custom made!

And thanks for the eta! Has the roleplay already started without me knowing? RPN is weird with notifications-

You can customize pretty much anything to your liking. In the world building page should be a list of manufacturers and tech companies that I and the other peeps in the roleplay have come up with which you're free to use. Alternatively you can come up with your own if you like.

The roleplay hasn't started yet either, so you've still got time!

Okay great thanks for letting me know! I’m still trying to see if there’s any better face claims or not and I’ll try my best making a custom HARframe too!

Crap I totally forgot to finish the backstory and think of a custom HARframe idea! I’m sorry dude!

Don't worry about it too much I don't think that stuff will take too long and there will be time while other folk get their posts out
