Viewpoint Do you read RPs for fun?

Don't let it ruffle your feathers, my liege.

I'm always curious about what folks are RPing so in my spare time I poke through people's threads and read them.

Am I the only one? Do you read RP threads you aren't involved in? If so, why?

Not really, no. I have a hard enough time finding roleplay requests that pique my interest. Perusing through people's 1x1s or group RPs that are up and running isn't how I intend to spend my time on the site. I keep a pretty keen eye on what goes on in the reqs (at least in the group reqs), and if it didn't appeal to me from the initial pitch and I didnt try to join, then I don't really care to look further as it goes on without me in it.

I dunno how to say this without sounding self-centered, but if I'm not going to be in the roleplay or if reading it isn't going to contribute to something I'm going to undertake (like looking for a writing sample for example), then I don't see the point. There are only so many hours in the day, ya know? And I'd rather spend them doing something that furthers my own aims.

Not other people's. When I do read other people's roleplays I'm usually looking for something or trying to assess someone's writing style.

That being said, I do read my own roleplays for fun. The end product is the goal in my writing so I really enjoy reading what I've made and what others made in response to it.

I definitely like the idea of others reading my roleplays though, if they are interested in it. After all, one of the main reasons I roleplay is to share what I come up with.

Yeh, I do and it’s fun! I consider writing to be a form of art. I enjoy reading back on my own RPs and looking through the forums at other peoples’ writing.

Also I’ve met people I wouldn’t have otherwise by letting them know I like their writing or characterization. There’s all kinds of unique ways to find writing partners and that’s one of them!

Not really. Probably to see their writing style.

Not typically unless it's a subject that deeply interests me. That's pretty rare, though, as I have interests that are pretty niche in the RP world.

Not really, at least not someone else's.
I sometimes read my own old rp for fun though!

I did once. I followed one on here wayyy back when. <.< It was so, so good. I was riveted. Stellar writing, stellar characters, stellar setting. But I haven't been able to find it since. I think it had even died back then, or at least slowed down.

I am not sure if they knew I was lurking LOL.

Even then, I didn't frequent the 1x1 forums. Never go there now. But I def read my old RPs, it's so fun.

Naah
The only time I read a roleplay that I'm not involved in is if someone asks me to for whatever reason. Other than that, I really don't read other plays 'n such. Why? I just don't see the point in doing so

Usually, no, but there have been a couple of exceptions. I do re-read old RPs between me and some friends offsite all the time, though, because they have a lot of fond memories built into them.

Yes, my own. Way too much, in fact. Considering I usually end up cringing at myself I think this might be detrimental to my health.

Sometimes I'll read old RPs that I used to be involved in for the nostalgia factor or to see if there are any characters/plots I may want to recycle for the future. Otherwise I don't peek into anybody else's threads. It staves away the temptation to join group RPs.

Yes. I've always done this lol. It depends on what my attention span is like that day and if I'd rather be doing something else, but there've been times I get invested in other RPs and I'm sitting there rooting for these people's OCs as if I'm reading a book. lmao

I used to love rereading my old RPs on here, but I've done that less and less ever since I started using this site less and less. But a lot of big ideas I got for writing were started on this forum.

Sometimes I'll skim through them, especially fandom ones. It's relaxing to me, and it's basically reading fan-fiction so sometimes you get some cool concepts.

i do read them! i've found some i really enjoyed. it's hard to find ones that really hook me, but there's at least one RP i've actually read multiple times... i just like other people's writing! on a meta level, i also like seeing what other people expect in a RP and what the conventions are. when i joined this site, i definitely looked a lot of the RPs here just to assess the vibes and see what things are like here, since every community gravitates toward a different type of style.

I really love to reread my old Roleplays. I think it's incredibly fun to see how I've grown as a writer over the years and even reminiscence some too. Sometimes I'll peruse through other people's as well, but at the same time, I also feel like I'm invading their privacy. Which is probably a bit silly, but it's always cool to see how other Roleplayers write too. You never know where you might find a style that could just end up influencing you!

i do! i don't keep up with any, but i do pop into different 1x1s that sound interesting. also, if a friend is telling me about one of their other rps, i'll usually read the most recent post.

I like to read rps my other friends are in! I can't be in more than a handful of rps (including 1x1s) so I like to follow along.

i rlly like reading bad roleplays. mostly from amino bc its full of illiterate and edgy 11 year old, which is fun to watch
