Graded [Fallen Blossom Shrine] Falling to Rise

Yukan
Screen_Shot_2022-09-06_at_4.08.19_PM-1.png
Under the majority of circumstances Yukan would have no doubt taken Gyoubu over anyone else, after all she was a well bred shrine maiden and he knew that she would be effective at the task at hand, but Masanori had unfortunately changed the perimeters for this hunt about what acceptable company was. He wasn’t about to be outshined there without a reciprocal effort. Regardless something about Mitsunari was of interest to him, if the sage had power it could be beneficial, it was a risk for sure since the Kitsune was an outsider who was traveling the land but Masanori had opted to bring in so many outsiders that at this point, it seemed less problematic. He hoped that the others wouldn't be particularly bothered. He nodded towards Mitsunari,

“Thank you for accompanying me, I agree there are important matters to discuss.” Seeing Mitsunari’s sign of excitement was probably a good thing.

Of course this didn’t stop Yukan from looking over toward Gyoubu again, he couldn’t help but feel somewhat bad, and her conflicted feelings were obviously apparent, he would be more than happy to spend more time with her.Even so with the current events and needing to stand out more this was a choice he felt inclined to make. It didn't make him feel bad any less , particularly with how displeased it seemed she was when he talked about the Sage, but that was understandable it was obvious she wanted to come, Yukan would have brought both of them if he could have but knew that wasn't an option in this case.

Yukan turned to Elder Longfeather and listened to what he had to say on the matter. He thought to himself and reflected on what was said, not saying anything during the absence of sound in the shrine for that prolonged period of time. Yukan knew it was up to him and he needed to get better to reach his goals. He just hoped he was making the right choice.

"Understood Elder Longfeather." he let out after with a small nod.

With a lack of alternative actions that Yukan felt was fair he looked towards her, "I...would certainly like to spend time with you, Shrine Maiden Gyoubu, if that would be to your liking, I also understand given these circumstances, your role and pedigree, if you'd rather not, but irrespective the door will be open on my side of things, should you wish to..and like I said when..I move along hopefully more opportunities will arise where, we can all coordinate, there is no doubt in my mind of your abilities contributing toward greatness. " He stated trying to be tactful, and trying to insinuate that he still valued her, which he did, he hoped that he explained the situation well enough prior that it was nothing personally against her.

He paused to see if anyone had anything else they wanted to say, if they did not he continued,"Now then as Sage Mitsunari said there are discussions to be had, so I think that I will now take my leave." He bowed with Republic of Kuridan Etiquette F before he started to make his way out of the shrine back towards the edge of the shrine to further observe what was going on there and hopefully have some interesting conversations with some allies...

As Yukan began saying his farewells to Gyoubu, Mitsunari remained silent, watching and listening to the others, observing them for what might be the final time. Currently the Shrine Maiden still had some growing to do, but he was sure her dedication to this place would limit her and restrict her. Long Feather. The bird was odd and perhaps that came from age or experience, but there were things about him that Mitsunari did not like and in fact made him want to kill the other Sage. The way in which he stared at them and the ramblings which consumed their precious time. Luckily for the owl he had not come here to pluck his feathers and roast him over a fire.

"May we all meet again." The fox lowered his head as he said his goodbyes to the owl and tanuki, then turned and exited the shrine. His geta clicked on the stone path as he followed behind Yukan. "You were very well spoken in your farewells, Master Koyake. A trait every good leader should possess." Because his power dwarfed that of the tanuki warrior, Mitsunari made sure not to walk beside him, but behind him just a little so as to seem more subservient. This sort of posture might also make Yukan seem grander in comparison when looked on by others.

"If I may, I am curious as to what this position means to you. What do you plan to accomplish once you have claimed victory in this hunt and proven yourself worthy of the Republic's attention?" He tucked his hands into the sleeves of his kimono and tilted his head slightly to the left in curiosity.

Alfis
"I got too excited. Information about his suppliers will obviously be tightly guarded, especially to someone whos only an acquaintance." Alfis thought on seeing Masanori's reaction, mentally kicking himself. "Of course, my apologies. I'd very much like us to continue working together and get to know each other more, regardless of any business." He said, offering an apologetic smile and lowering his head slightly, leaving it at that to avoid dragging down the atmosphere.

Alfis wasn't sure, but he considered that the break in character might have been assisted by his refusal to ignore Crymaria as well. While he knew there were incredibly mixed feelings on the topic of human and beast relationships, it was pretty clear that the Masanori wasn't fond of them. One had to wonder why the tanuki would even bother hiring her then, but that was starting to become more apparent.

"If you place that much faith in me, then I have no choice but to do everything in my power to make this a success. Granted, I would have either way." Alfis replied to Masanori's ceaseless flattery with a light chuckle. It seemed that he wouldn't have any concerns when it came to payment, as long he survived that is. He had to wonder whether the other members of the logistics unit had caught on to what they were signing up for yet. If not, he was planning to have a more private discussion with them some times after they were finished here.

Something that gained Alfis' attention was the samurai that had passed through as they spoke. Nothing was strange about the from the outside, but Boris became the center of attention once again. Although Alfis had spent some time traveling with the bear and was impressed with his discipline and manners, this was becoming excessive. Perhaps he was becoming paranoid, but his eyes lingered a moment longer on the two geisha that remained before switching his focus back to the delicious meal.

Deciding that he'd like to get to know the other member of the logistics unit, Alfis began speaking once there was a lull in the conversation."We're already somewhat acquainted, but some introductions wouldn't hurt either. Since it was my idea, I'll start. He said, taking a moment to clear his throat. I'm Alfis, an earth magus and aspiring chef. Whether you need magical insight, a good meal, or something blasted with magic rocks, I'm your man. I can't guarantee my food will be as good as this, but it'll beat whatever any other group can cook up when we're traveling."

After seeing that Indicus had been rather quiet so far, Alfis decided to give the Dragonborn an extra chance to get involved. "Indicus, I'll probably be asking for your help with fires. I'm also curious how your breath will affect any cooking."

Soon after, he turns his attention to Crymaria and Boris, having his curiosity peaked by the two. "Crymaria, I'm curious about how you and Boris met." Pausing, he quickly caught himself. "Also, is it fine to just call you both by name?" Although humans were not uncommon, the way Crymaria carried herself and her manners were still unique, so he decided to air on the side of caution.

Indicus listened to Alfis's former introduction and decided to note that the man was a aspiring chef, he would have to ask how to cook or prepare some of the Republic's common cultural dishes at some point.

Indicus finished his a slice of sashimi as Alfis spoke formally introduced himself and tried to include him in the conversation. "Eh sure, I'll bite. My dragonfire so far has been like normal fire. Though it produces less smoke, is blue with small wisps of silver running through it and is harder to put out through normal means. Something about the fire using ambient mana as part of it's fuel. As for affecting cooking it is hotter then normal fire."

Indicus went quiet after answering the question to let Crymaria speak, he would be lying if he said he wasn't interested in what the woman had to say. Indicus of course got more of the exquisite food laid before him

Crymaria noticed the small look that her host had given her. When she glanced over at Boris the bear was sniffing the salmon for a moment. Though he quickly started to eat the fish that was placed in front of him as the giant bowl of tea was placed next to him he would sniff the bowl before taking a tentative drink.

When the host mentioned they should focus on the present she simply shrugged, "Comrade Masanori, a few days come much sooner than you think." Crymaria stated as she watched the squid be cut into several different pieces. Picking up once of the pieces of squid eating it as her employer once again started to speak.

As the samurai entered the room and offered Boris the saki, the bear took a sniff before returning to the berries that were still at the table for him. Boris didn't seem to care for the alcohol though was more inclined to eat the food that was in front of him. While he continued to converse Crymaria made mental notes of Masanori. Very much anti-human in this household it seems, though not entirely surprising. She thought to herself as she took another sip of the tea.

When Alfis asked her a question she looked over at the tiger beastman, "You may do what pleases you, comrade." She responded before he continued to speak. "Uh, I found Boris as a cub, there isn't much else to say he has been my life long companion." She stated as she looked over at the bear.

Yukan

Screen_Shot_2022-09-06_at_4.08.19_PM-1.png

While they were walking along Yukan glanced back eventually once he was out of the shrine to see Mitsunari was following. This was definitely a good thing as far as he was concerned. He then heard Mitsunari speak up once they were a considerable range away from the pair that Yukan had given his formal goodbyes too. He just hoped that Gyoubu and Longfeather understood his position well enough, it was all he could hope for. While they walked at a respectable pace he gave a bit of a nod,

"You were very well spoken in your farewells, Master Koyake. A trait every good leader should possess."

"Thank you, Mitsunari. it does not take one long to find out that social graces are pivotal."
He looked around the surrounding outside area, gazing out at the field where the training that was going on, presuming that he had made the correct decision there after the results of those earlier military drills.

Mitsunari intentionally staying behind him, did make Yukan feel a bit better in where his assigned position lay, still completely unaware of Mitsunari's true power. With the shrine now in the background of the pair well enough somewhat in the distance.
"If I may, I am curious as to what this position means to you. What do you plan to accomplish once you have claimed victory in this hunt and proven yourself worthy of the Republic's attention?" He tucked his hands into the sleeves of his kimono and tilted his head slightly to the left in curiosity.

He stopped and turned to face the Sage. He was in thought for a moment like he was trying to craft the sentences just right so that they were perfect. He then made some eye contact if possible with the Kitsune.

"I think the best way to describe my aspirations...Mitsunari, do you ever...feel a deep sickness when you look around Kuridan and off to our Eastern border?" He proposed the question back.

"When I look at the current leadership in Kuridan, while there are a many noble, strong, intellectual figures who remain, there is a deep sense of weakness..petty quarrels...greed, corruption, corwardice.. those seizing power because of our customs because they can just for their own betterment." Referencing how people could challenge people to combat for various roles via custom.

"And now in this time of peace between the shogunates, there is another weakness, so I've heard when Kuridan was in the war times of the past every clan brought their best warriors into the fray, forging new generations of soilders for the betterment of their land, where has that pride gone..where we allow humans of all things to govern our mighty people? Treat them like pets or property..and what do many in our very own society do about it? They are completely complicit. Do they send anyone to retrieve their captured relatives? No. They sit by peacefully and let the humans do as they please with them..it absolutely sickens me"
Yukan spat towards the end of the sentence.

"The ancestors of time long ago would roll in their graves at such dishonorable cowardly conduct..Did you or my relatives from days of old fight and die for their clan so that their family members of the future could be delegated to gladiators, exotic concubines, or servants? by a race no less who is so convinced of their superiority that they will enslave and milk the land and enslaved people until there is nothing left?"

"And we're just expected to stand by while these unforgivable actions transpire...I cannot accept this reality as it stands." He'd pause, looking at Mitsunari once more before continuing.

He tapped into his knowledge of Republic of Kuridan Culture F, "There are institutions and leadership which remain that are only rotting Kuridan to the core.. where it stands we won't see the end of this rampant..illness of bureaucracy unless we proactively take action now... To get to the heart of your question, this seat will serve as a stepping stone in the grander scheme of things, I desire to make real change, and for that, I will need to work long and hard, as well as find like minded people who will need to respect me..and what better way to gain the respect of through a productive way others than serving? As far as I am concerned it is the way forward for the betterment of Kuridan" He finally finished.

He wasn't sure how Mitsunari was going to react to all of this, but he spoke how he felt.

When Yukan came to a stop and seemed to be in thought, Mitsunari felt reassured in his choice to back Yukan. Perhaps he was just mulling over his response, but that was a somewhat calculated thing to do. Then the fox's brow lifted in surprise when he heard what it was that Yukan had been preparing to say. To the east was the empire, a place he clearly had no love for so to hear Yukan's intention started with the east was very promising. And Yukan laid bare his plans for the future while airing his grievances with current state of the nation, while sharing with Mitsunari a small bit of cultural information abut Kuridan, while also impressing the kitsune and securing his support.

"I see now why the Shrine Maiden was so taken with you, Master Koyake." Mitsunari teased as a playful grin stretched across his face. He would use [Kitsune Trickery] now to persuade Yukan to include him in his plans for the future. "You are a man of strength and courage who is rightfully unhappy with the way the world is today. The Kuridan is a windmill, stagnant and without purpose, but you are the winds of change." Yukan was all that Mitsunari had hoped he would be and more. Though he was young and had some growing to do, the man's mind was not clouded by the everyday things like greed and fear that sometimes made it difficult for people to take action.

"I am very familiar with the horrors of the east and I was greatly disappointed when i came north and found that no one seemed to care beyond saying that they disapproved. Except you. You are the first person I have found to express and interest in saving those wrongfully shackled by the humans and....for that reason I would like to lend you my aide." Mitsunari stepped back and leaned forward, bowing at the waist. "I did whatever it took to escape the east and if you would have me in your service...I will again do whatever it takes to see your dreams of a united Kuridan and an end to slavery come true." Mitsunari wasn't a samurai, he wasn't even a proper citizen of Kuridan, but so this improper oath would have to suffice for now. He just hoped it would make it clear to Yukan how serious he was, even if it was only to further his own goals.

"I see now why the Shrine Maiden was so taken with you, Master Koyake." Mitsunari teased as a playful grin stretched across his face.

Yukan gaged Mitsunari carefully after he finished speaking, what he hadn't expected was the first comment from Mitsunari, was Gyoubu that taken with him? He might have looked a bit more bashful if this wasn't such a serious occasion. He did notice the grin, which he was working hard to interpret upon a surface level look but for now he'd wait, so far it was sounding good. He did his best to correct his own expression back to it's serious resting state.

He would use [Kitsune Trickery] now to persuade Yukan to include him in his plans for the future. "You are a man of strength and courage who is rightfully unhappy with the way the world is today. The Kuridan is a windmill, stagnant and without purpose, but you are the winds of change."
He was aware that his speech had been very visionary orientated but he tried his best to appeal with the logic he knew. Truthfully he knew that he would need to learn more about their history so that he could better defend his position if brought into scrutiny but for now this would do. He also knew very well that not everyone was receptive to that sort of talk but it seemed like perhaps Mitsunari was. Yukan didn't seem to pick up on the trickery that was being used, after all it was quite a high grade comparatively. Indeed Yukan had growth he needed to make, he had to get more powerful, and obtain more skills.

I am very familiar with the horrors of the east and I was greatly disappointed when i came north and found that no one seemed to care beyond saying that they disapproved. Except you. You are the first person I have found to express and interest in saving those wrongfully shackled by the humans and....for that reason I would like to lend you my aide."
Hearing that Mitsunari was aware of what he was talking about was unfortunate for Yukan to hear, presumably that meant Mitsunari had witnessed first hand what went over there or worse, Yukan could only speculate based off of what he told him, giving him a nod.

"If this vision is brought into fruition this dreadful complicity we both speak of will be purged from the land no one will ever have to suffer at the hands of the Eastern Empire ever again." He paused for a moment before continuing turning towards Mitsunari.

"I did whatever it took to escape the east and if you would have me in your service...I will again do whatever it takes to see your dreams of a united Kuridan and an end to slavery come true."

"And after all you have said, I cannot see a reality where I could deny someone such as yourself, nevertheless a Sage to work towards this noble goal." He reciprocated a bow with Republic of Kuridan F " I would be most honored to receive your aide, great brave Sage Mitsunari, someone who has fled the East and lived to tell the tale has only my most utter respect."

The enemy towards their Eastern border would just be the start as far as Yukan was concerned, he did not want to rest easy until every single beast had been liberated around the known world and beyond. He was rather impressed with just how much of his messaging Mitsunari had picked up on, as while he hadn't explictly said it there were most definitely suggestions at a united Kuridan being a viable goal. As it stood while the Shogunates had mutual defense packs and worked together against foreigner invaders, that wasn't enough, the independent leadership, was proving ineffective as it could be as far as Yukan was concerned. Yukan needed to get it to a point where at the very least the administrative regions could work together in attacking a common enemy as well, but this inactivity, was a cancer that needed to be stamped out..

He then eventually raised himself once more, this time with a bit of a cool smile. "There will be much work for us to do then, as I'm certain you are aware..we will need to gather others when the time is right, and while I agree it has seemed bleak so far, there will be others...which collectively I believe we will all be able to achieve great things."

Whether Mitsunari was doing it for his own self reasons or not the ultimate end goal was beneficial to Yukan, and Yukan was not below even letting criminals help him for what he considered the greater good.

Alfis
Alfis curiously listened as Indicus spoke of his flames. "Hm. The lack of smoke could be either a negative or a bonus taste-wise, based on who you ask. That feature would be convenient for avoiding unwanted attention during travel. The increased heat would take some adjusting, but it could also speed up our food preparation time, especially for such a large group." He shrugs. "In the end, it's purely speculation, but it's enjoyable to do so nonetheless."

His eyes widen as Alfis comes to a realization. "Ah. Now that I think about it, I don't know anything about dragon-kin preferences." He eyes Indicus' plate. "You seem to handle all the meats and vegetables that were served here fine enough. You'll need to tell me about any flavors or spices you or your family like or dislike. Any unique recipes would be appreciated as well." Realizing he was getting too excited, he sheepishly cleared his throat and calmed his tail" "Of course, I'll owe you a meal for the trouble if you're willing."

Once he finished speaking with Incidcus, Alfis turned his attention towards Crymaria, who responded to the tigerkin's question. "You hear stories like that sometimes, but usually, it doesn't involve a bear." He chuckled slightly. "It does explain how intelligent and well-mannered Comrade Boris is, though. He still seems to be a relatively competent hunter, if not even more so because of that." Alfis nodded his head towards the bear, still slightly envious of the attention he drew but knowing better than to be.

"Speaking of hunting..." Alfis glances between the two with some confusion. "What are your choices of weapon? I haven't seen any on either of you." While the dragonkin could be more easily explained with his race and claws, the small human girl was not as obvious. "as long as we're on the topic, we can try to figure out how to best approach this hunt and any..." His eyes momentarily shoot towards Masanori. "Unexpected complications."

Seikatsu Mitsunari

The two of them seemed to see eye to eye on things and that was all Mitsunari could hope for at this time. Yukan was who he needed him to be and would grow to become what he needed him to be. It would take time of course, but the best plans required patience and while the fox was not particularly fond of waiting, he had other things to occupy himself with in the mean time. So he raised his head and locked eyes with Yukan as the man accepted his help and promised change would come one day. The tanuki was right about them needing allies to bring about that change however.

"Shall we reconvene with the rest of your company and prepare for the hunt?" The fox proposed. He had yet to meet the others who would be participating in this endeavor and he was eager to see just what type of people the event had attracted. "If we are lucky we might find our first potential partners among this crowd." He wasn't too optimistic, but anything was possible, especially if they willed it hard enough.

Indicus smiled as he watched Alfis's excitement about food and cooking raise to the point he watched the Tiger-kin forcibly settle down his clearly active tail. And so Indicus answered Alfis with a mirthful smile. "I grew up alone in a forest near Ryken so I never had a family per say but that is irrelevant. I'm not picky, I usually just cook my food over a fire and use a few wild herbs I don't rightly know the name of for flavor and if I'm lucky I find some wild peppers, berries, or mushrooms that aren't poisonous or hallucinogens."

Indicus smiled as memories of throwing up all day from some poisonous berries or seeing things because of some mushrooms played through his mind. "I still remember when I was much younger getting myself sick from some poisonous berry, herb, or other plant fun times."

Interlude Part 1: Visiting New Friends
The lady kicked at the ashes in the hearth.

“Are you sure?” A tear stricken Tanuki girl said. Her tail was tucked under and around her left leg. Her shoulders were hunched and every few seconds she looked to several Tanuki huddled in the corner of the cottage ten feet away.

“Of course!” Another lady said, laughing and kicking at the roaring hearth, not even bothering to look back at the crying Tanuki girl. This lady was tall with a messy dreadlock of silver white hair exploding around her face like a bush of angry snacks.

When the Tanuki girl joined her family in sobbing, the other lady turned around and rolled her eyes. “Don’t be so melodramatic!” She walked over to the vial of mercury looking liquid on the table. “It’s just a prank for my little bro.”

Looking back and forth between the Tanuki, she threw her hands up in the air. “See! I told you they wouldn't get it." There was a pause as she grew silent. "No, no it's fine." Another pause. “No, I’ll just ki-“ She went silent and stomped her foot on the ground, bursting through the bamboo flooring and a foot of soil beneath. Dirt and bamboo chunks flew everywhere. “Okay, fine-“ A moment of silence. “No seriously, it’s fiiiiine.” More silence. “I’m not mocking you-“

The lady took a deep breath. She was extremely, ridiculously, flawlessly pretty in a way that defied all convention. It could have been her beauty as much as her insanity that caused the family of Tanuki to be in the state they were. Of course the fact that several of the huddling Tanuki had broken bones and blood leaking from compound fractures could have also played a role.

At length, the lady with the much too beautiful face turned towards the Tanuki girl. “Here I’ll show you.”

With a flick of her wrist, five vials of silvery-white liquid manifested. She walked casually towards the family, and despite the compound fractures and terror on their faces all the males of the family, young and old alike, wagged their tales like the most excited puppy. The women became even more submissive, whining despite the fact the lady was not a Tanuki.

The lady squatted down and poured the gleaming silver-white liquid into the panting mouth of the eldest Tanuki patriarch. The gramps quivered as the lady poured the first vial down his throat. Then the lady took three steps backwards and extended her arms. “Wait for it.”

Several seconds passed, and the broken bone jumped back into place like the injury was being rewound. In under twenty seconds, he was as goods as new.

“See? And I always keep my promises unlike some beings. Integrity means quite a lot to my kind.”

The lady walked towards the Tanuki girl looking at the silvery vial and reached out for it. “It tastes quite good.”

“And they…they won’t get…get hurt?”

The lady turned and smiled a glorious smiled that would make angels jealous and fallen. “Oh they will be right as rain within twenty seconds of drinking the potion.”

The lady walked over and handed out the other four vials to the wounded males. Sure enough each one healed within moments.

“Viola!” The lady said laughing with a sound like silver bells. “Promise kept. All wounds gone.”

The Tanuki girl dried her tears on the sleeves of her kimono.

“C’mon silly,” The lady said. Smiling and patting the Tanuki girl on the back. “Here I’ll help you look pretty again.”

The Tanuki girl jerked when the lady started applying makeup again but did not resist. True to her claim, not only did the lady help but she demonstrated her pussant skill at disguise. The Tanuki girl looked beautiful and much improved from before or ever.

“Not bad!” The lady said, smiling like the Tanuki girl was a petulant child that had just come around. The lady even patted the girl’s head. She handed the girl the mercury-like liquid in the vial. “Have fun!”

The girl gave one last look towards her family. She looked at them for a long time. A few gave her nods and blew her a last kiss good bye. She left, shutting the door behind her and didn’t stop at the sound of cracking bone and whimpers of pain. To her family’s credit, they didn’t cry out like they had the first five times the lady had demonstrated the terms of their deal.

Twenty minutes later the lady left and made her way through the town, whistling softly as she went. She wore a white and pink kimono and many silk scarves that made blending into the crowd of people easier. Eventually she paused near the lee of an old tree and put five more silver-white bottles in a cavity. Then she continued on, veering off towards the hills surrounding the city. About a mile out on a now abandoned watch tower, she perched on the open roof. A mounted spy glass made observing the tree and where the girl had gone easy.

The lady smiled and turned to her easel and started painting a beautiful landscape scene on the large white canvas. She whistled while she worked and paused from time to time to look through the spyglass. Only about twenty minutes later did she resume talking to herself.

Yukan
Screen_Shot_2022-09-06_at_4.08.19_PM-1.png
Yukan nodded at the proposal, before gesturing and starting to make his way closer towards the edge of the field, with the thought that Mitsunari would follow, he moved however many Ft necessary from where they had stopped last. He then stopped and once more at this edge and turned back to Mitsunari, making specific note of Tadakatsu. "mhm..I've yet to gage the receptiveness of many here, I have some thoughts.." He paused before continuing

"That Tanuki right there, he is well respected and possess some martial abilities, he showed much more ability than Masanori did during the military training so it only seemed fitting to let him train those who wanted more cohesion." Yukan said softly and to the point.

He then got a bit closer to Mitsunari and continued. "As much as I respect Tadakatsu and the others do, he is still a potential obstacle in my goal of getting the attention of Kuridan." He stated quietly. Before he backed off some.

"Masanori-sama and Tadakatsu-san reflect different strengths.Masanori is more wealthy and connected, seems to have a visionary mind and strategy but lacks in unit cohesion when he took on the role of a captain while Tadakatsu , both of them as I"m sure you understand stand out in their own ways.." He continued with the suggestion in his voice that they were to be looked out for, if they wanted Yukan to secure the position.

"As a result I let Masanori-sama form the logistics unit as he wished which is why we have some most unusual contributors some of which I mentioned back in the Shrine.. I understand the risk involved, but both will more than likely help further our primary objective.." He continued looking towards Mitsunari, hoping this would help catch him up on events.

Five Thousand Peony Blossoms, the Masanori Geisha House.
Five Thousand Peony Blossoms, the Masanori Geisha House, was situated near the Shrine of Fallen Blossom, downstream and along a meandering path to give it a sense of solemn privacy. Masanori quietly listened to the three members of the logistics unit chat amongst themselves. He seemed to not mind the attention being off of him. He ate food and made casual comments along with the rest, but mostly he faded into the background.

Another lighter course of food arrived. Edamame made five ways with different seasonings and spices accomponanied with different tempura vegetables. It was easier to eat slow, taking bits and pieces in between conversation. Masanori picked at a fried lotus root, nibbling at the pieces as his eyes flickered between the three and the Bear and Geisha outside. Several guests from a different pavilion wandered out to mingle in the courtyard listening to the Geisha play and chatting with Boris in the beastial tongue.

“In the Republic, man, beast, and beastkin can find a sort of harmony amongst themselves. The balance is not something everyone appreciates. Like the cherry blossom it can be fleeting and easy to ignore, it’s season coming and going in days.“ He took a deep breath, smiling a little turn of his lips, before reaching over and sampling a few pieces of edamame with his chop sticks. He flicked them open with his sharp teeth and placed the skins in a dish for them.

As the conversation eased towards a lull, Masanori perked up suddenly. “Ah, I have a treat for you. I was waiting to see if our commander for the hunt would show himself, but alas I fear he may be distracted with other concerns.” Masanori shrugged. “Shall we move on to saki and haiku?“

He raised his eyes as a new geisha was making her way towards them. She had an expensive jug of saki made of pure white porcelain with a moonlight expanse of water and the full moon on its side painted in what looked like silver or possibly mithril. ”I had to pull some favors, but I managed to get us some Pale Moon Saki.” Masanori grinned. “This is the favorite saki of all the Numbered Spears and the one the Fifth Spear loves the most.“

The Geisha lady was more beautiful than even the two in the courtyard. Her makeup was impeccable and she walked with a slow, graceful elegance that drew everyone’s eyes as she came from the far side of the courtyard towards Masanori’s pavilion. It would be another few minutes as she took her time, building the tension and excitement with her every step.

Seikatsu Mitsunari
1670482059822.png
It had been a very long time since Mitsunari slowed down to talk and listen to someone whom he wasn't trying to kill or protect himself from. As he followed behind Yukan he almost forgot why had was here. Who could blame him when this place reminded him so much of the home that he'd left behind. It was nice. But when he heard Yukan speak he was pulled from his day dreaming, back to the reality the he found himself in. His eyes settled upon the figure that Yukan had pointed out. Apparently his skill in combat was nothing to scoff at and it seemed that even as a potential obstacle, Yukan still held the man in high esteem. While Tadakatsu could be useful, Mitsunari had no time for obstacles of any sort. He would have to deal with the man at some point. Masanori. The name was becoming quite familiar to the kitsune and he was already annoyed by the man who he had not yet met.

"Well if they are both potential threats to your cause and plans...we will have to change their minds and ensure they support you just as wholeheartedly as I do." Manipulating such well known and respected figures would require finesse and a delicate touch. Mitsunari only hoped he didn't find more reason to kill them than to enlist them. It seemed there would be more work to do on the political front than he initially anticipated, but the best games required you to do more than just move forward. "I thank you for this debriefing..." He bowed his head in thanks to the Tanuki. "...shall we look to the hunt now and join your unusual contributors?" His gaze shifted from Yukan to the soldiers as he wondered what other prominent figures would be joining them.

Crymaria nodded her head as Alfis mentioned Comrade Boris. "Well Comrade Boris is smart besides who would mess with a large bear?" Crymaria inquired as she looked around the room for a moment. "He could hunt on his own sure, though Comrade Boris and I do tend to work best as a team." Crymaria stated as she folded her arms across her chest for a moment.

When the question about weapons were mentioned she let out a small chuckle. "Comrade Alfis you are already looking at my weapons," She stated as she made a fist with one hand and punched the palm of her hand. "I fight with my hands much like Comrade Boris, though he can lift heavier things." Crymaria stated as Boris looked over for a second and huffed.

"What Comrade Boris you know its true!" Crymaria argued with Boris as the bear let out another huff before flopping on its back and laying there contently. Causing Crymaria to shake her head as their host mentioned drink and poems she shook her head. "I'm afraid I am no good with poems," Crymaria stated.

Alfis
Alfis' eyes went wide and he struggled to keep from choking on the tea he was sipping while Indicus spoke. Attempting to suppress any coughing and further reactions that would make the conversation even more awkward, he continued to listen to the dragonborn's words. "I-i...see..." he managed to stutter out before trying to recompose himself.

"How the hell are you even still alive?!" was all that Alfis could scream to himself mentally. Was Indicus saying that he grew up without parents in some random forest? Was that even possible? How did he survive? He felt a headache forming and rapidly growing with how casual the man was about ingesting poisonous plants. He could only side-eye Masanori while wondering where in the world the tanuki had found the dragonborn.

"I'll...be relying on your experience regarding survival skills, then. I've generally kept within a fair distance of any town or city and stuck to the main roads for the most part." after struggling to spin the situation positively for a moment, Alfis managed to reply as such. As much as he had many questions for the dragonborn, it was likely not the time or place to go into detail about his history. "I'll also have to introduce you to the wonderful world of culinary arts after this, even if it's just enjoying the food." Maybe it was a bit condescending, but he couldn't ignore the fact that Indicus mainly knew only knew the taste of fundamental cooking for the most part.

It seemed that although Indicus had been distracted by his...unique memories of growing up, Crymaria had heard his question regarding their choice of weapons. Although he initially tilted his head in confusion when she said he was looking at her weapons, understanding and curiosity dawned on his face as she elaborated. "Ah, so you fight unarmed. I've heard that's more uncommon for humans than beastkin, so I wasn't sure." Although he had some doubts due to her size, he wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt and also knew that Masanori had decent judgment. "....Probably" he added silently to himself as his gaze wandered back to Indicus. "I'm curious how your techniques will differ as a result."

As the gap in conversation grew between the sounds clattering of chopsticks and glasses grew, their host took the opportunity to speak up. Though it was not surprising, the mention of fleeting balance did manage to grab Alfis' attention. It seemed the tanuki was alluding to something. Just as quickly, he brought the topic of conversation to saki and, oddly enough, haikus. "You truly know how to enjoy the finer things in life, sir Masanori." Was all that he could say after hearing that and being met with the rare top-quality saki and equally as talented and beautiful geisha that had just arrived. If not for the fact that he had grown up among them, his inherent struggles with romantic emotions, and his current wariness, he could see himself bewitched by the woman in a short time.

"Hm. I must admit, I'm not one for poetry much myself..." Alfis' words trailed off as he considered numerous things. "I'll make an attempt. However, I will be using your words as inspiration. For a moment, he closed his eyes and took a deep breath, taking in the atmosphere of his surroundings. His chopsticks bounced in the air, following the haiku pattern as he chose his words.

"Balance is fleeting.
The unworthy wither.
Rulers will blossom."

Alfis frowned to himself as he considered the end result of his creation. "Maybe a bit too bleak sounding for what should be a festive time and what I was aiming for." The tigerkin admitted with a sigh, taking a sip of his tea. "I would say I favor the balance of peace, but it must also pass. All parts of life operate in a cycle. He continued as he stared into his cup as if looking for answers in it. "We use that time to determine what's more vital and what we need to grow and continue to improve." Finally, he raises his head with a bittersweet smile. "And maybe one day we'll have grown to the point where the bloom of peace is strong enough to persist against all.

Shrugging as if to rid himself of embarrassment, he resumed picking at and enjoying the sashimi and vegetables. He had yet to partake in the sake, but it seemed as if he had gotten drunk off the atmosphere. He had often considered things like this throughout his life, having been burdened with memories of his past life and the duty that came along with it. Although he did not know if he could consider himself close to the young scion, he believed that the man would understand to a degree with the ambitions he seemed to hold. He took a moment to sober himself as he again prepared himself for whatever was to follow in the coming days, if not sooner.

Yukan
Screen_Shot_2022-09-06_at_4.08.19_PM-1.png
Yukan liked Mitsunari's line of thinking. Perhaps the ones he had been discussing would be agreeable to some of his greater aspirations it wasn't like he had bothered asking either. But then there was the fact that talking about this sort of stuff could be quite risky, and it meant that he'd need to convince them why he was suited for the role compared to either of them. Perhaps one or the other would be open to joining up even if he continued to try his best to secure the position. He felt like someone like Tadakatsu might feel as in dignified as he did on the issue of beast slavery in the realm , but for Masanori he wasn't sure if he was the type would be willing to follow Yukan in what would ultimately become a large scale armed conflict in the future more than likely if Yukan had things his way. Masanori hadn't exactly shown a quality that he would be willing to sacrifice his life earlier when he used his unit to hide behind Tadakatsu's..indeed this one was more problematic, Yukan couldn't help but wonder if he fell into the category of person who had tainted the Republic of Kuridan as he discussed..no matter.

Yukan nodded at Mitsunari's words. "Indeed, perhaps when the time is right that would be something we should try of course I am sure you're aware there are risks involved with the business we are discussing, we must be selective with who we share the full story with... there may be a chance we can turn obstacles into allies however..if we share enough to get them working with us." If Mitsunari was hearing what he was trying to convey he was saying they should be selective with who they share the portion about Uniting Kuridan with this early on in these stages as only the most radical would probably be on board with that, as that could be interpreted as a seditious plot towards the current shogunate and leadership as it was, it was fine to share Yukan's anti slavery aspirations with most anyone more than likely , but they needed to have plans in case they told someone about the other part of the plan if said person wasn't all to understanding of the aspirations at hand...they would most definitely need to build a support base.

Yukan bowed back a bit towards Mitsunari after the thank you. "Indeed we should join the others that way you can see for yourself those I speak of and what we are working with." After it seemed like they had discussed what they needed to, Yukan began to made his way to regroup and presumably get the others up to date on Mitsunari and vice versa. This was turning out much better than he could have hoped for with the sage at his side, Yukan was youthful and a dreamer it seemed, even if Mitsunari was working with him for self serving purposes as long as they had some common goals aligned this would be quite a duo moving forward.

Indicus barely kept himself from laughing at Alfis's reaction to his childhood. It was a common one but did not cease to be amusing as most wondered how he survived. "I'll have to be sure not to disappoint then." Indicus took another bite of the food he had before him. "If you are willing to show me some of your culinary skill I would be more then happy to watch and learn. It would be nice to learn dishes more interesting then roasted meat and wild vegetables."

Indicus took a small sip of the Sake and had to appreciate the quality though he refrained from having any more lest he impair his awareness and wake up tomorrow with a headache. He noticed the female performer slowly approaching and had to admit she was beautiful but could not tell if she was more or less beautiful compared to the two in the courtyard so instead of pondering local standards of beauty he focused his attention to what he did know, and that was how good the food was.

Yukan's caution was a continued display of his understanding of statecraft and the importance of secrecy, good traits for someone in his position to have. But it was time to focus his attention elsewhere and on other people. AS they walked to meet with the others, Mitsunari conversed with Yukan and tried to keep the conversations light. He remained somewhat behind the tanuki, keeping up the appearance of subservience and respect. But as they neared their destination, the kitsune's face paled and his heart seemed to stop beating in his chest. "A geisha house..." He breathlessly said as his eyes took in the building and the sight of the geisha within.

Memories of his dreadful past life and the many miserable years played back in the fox's head as he stood somewhat paralyzed by despair. His family's geisha house had been like a prison for him and since escaping to this new world he had never thought to visit one. The years he spent playing servant to his sickly older brother were nightmare fuel for Mitsunari now, memories he would happily relinquish if he could. While he stood there with tensed muscles, it was only the sound of happy guests that broke Mitsunari from his dreaming. His ears twitched atop his head and he finally inhaled and let out a heavy sigh.

"Damn the gods." He mumbled softly under his breath. "Shall we?" His eyes swept across to Yukan and he flashed a smile at the Commander. Mitsunari headed inside, subduing his hesitation and reluctance as he left his geta at the entrance "I think I should let you make the introductions, Master Koyake. I might seem like an intruder otherwise." A soft chuckle left Mitsunari as he scratched the side of his head.

Yukan was curious about Mitsunari's reaction to the house, wondering what it could be about as his ears twitched a bit curiously at the breatheless words. He turned back to him, he felt tempted to ask if Mitsunari was alright, but wasn't entirely sure what the reaction was about. If it was something personal he didn't really feel like it was his place to ask him in such a public place of all places, particularly since he was trying to get to know the Sage better. Nevertheless he did gage and take note of Mitsunari's reaction. He figured he would tread lightly moving forward on it.

"Right, wasn't my venue of choice.. If I had it my way, I wouldn't normally step into a place like this, but a many like to gather and socialize at establishments like these.even so.goes along with the territory of making allies and having important conversations to my understanding " He stated softly the still somewhat serious expression on his face. All of the lonely people who came to these sorts of places didn't help, and tradition or not Yukan couldn't help but wonder about the treatment of the Geisha in places like these, yes they certainly helped the Republic Of Kuridans economy so he was thankful for them in that sense but the rest didn't leave the best taste in his mouth.

He nodded once more, not entirely sure what Mitsunari had mumbled, " Indeed, I'll introduce you to the rest of our hunting group that only seems reasonable" He knew very well where he was supposed to go now, as he entered the Geisha house with Republic of Kuridan Etiquette F. With the intention of seeking the group out so that he could first and foremost introduce Mitsunari properly, gazing around the rather impressive space multi-roomed beautiful space as he started to move through it. There was no denying it that Masanori's blood line had connections and some impressive worldy things to show for it, but Yukan had a more important task at hand to meet.

Five Thousand Peony Blossoms: It began in fire, Part 1
After it seemed like they had discussed what they needed to, Yukan began to make his way to regroup and presumably get the others up to date on Mitsunari and vice versa. This was turning out much better than he could have hoped for with the sage at his side, Yukan was youthful and a dreamer it seemed, even if Mitsunari was working with him for self serving purposes as long as they had some common goals aligned this would be quite a duo moving forward.

Five Thousand Peony Blossoms, the Masanori Geisha House, was situated near the Shrine of Fallen Blossom, downstream and along a meandering path to give it a sense of solemn privacy. As far as taverns, inns, and upscale establishments go, the place was nice. It offered many rooms of private tea ceremonies, geisha companionship, and elaborate meals. There were several courtyards that the rooms circled. Given the option for solitude or adhoc meetings amongst those in the other rooms.

As the pair approached the Five Thousand Peony Blossoms, they found entrance quite easy. They were welcomed by one of the samurai on duty, given suitable deference and escorted through to the courtyard.

As the trio closed up their conversations, the Geisha slowly made her way across the courtyard. Her painted white face and cherry red lips curved into almost fox-like grin. Certainly it was rare for a Tanuki to have a split tail, and these waved gently behind her slow and languid towards the ground. Her eyes were demurred, down cast as she held the Pale Moon Saki before her. The wealth of that one bottle was on display for everyone to see. All five samurai appeared to watch her passage. Two two Geisha, oddly enough, appeared startled at the newest Geisha to appear, their music fell apart and silence descended in the beautiful Geisha’s wake. Several of the other private pavilions opened their doors, drunken Tanki of middling and higher stations peering out in awe, shock, or thirst.

Causing Crymaria to shake her head as their host mentioned drink and poems she shook her head. "I'm afraid I am no good with poems," Crymaria stated.

Masanori opened his mouth several times, seeming to work through what to say. “Honored Guest, Comrade Crymaria this…this…” He took a deep breath, “This saki is worth, no the soul of the Tanuki is in this drink, Comrade. It would bring great shame upon my House if you refused.” He looked around.

Masanori flashed a half smile that weakened quickly. He took a deep breath. He looked up and out towards the courtyard, his eyes closing and then he turned back towards Alfis.

Hm.

Finally, he raises his head with a bittersweet smile. "And maybe one day we'll have grown to the point where the bloom of peace is strong enough to persist against all.

“Maybe so. I pray so, peace is good for business, but our House was built upon logistics. It’s a push-pull, I’m afraid. Maybe it will grow though all forests see fires. A healthy burn is said to be good for the ecosystem.” Masanori said, shrugging and looking towards the Geisha with the bottle of the Full Moon Saki. “Regardless, your haiku was brilliant. It is rare for it to both match the occasion and provide the hint of enlightenment.”

The Geisha bowed over the Pale Moon saki, pouring a glass for each person around the table. the liquid was pale and simmered with a faint hint of silver like it was bathed in pale moonlight.

Masanori raised his glass, opening his mouth about to give a haiku of his own.

Just before he raised his cup to his mouth, he paused, his eyes finally finding Yukan and Mitsunari. “Please, commander of the hunt and the Great Sage Mitsunari, I’ve heard so much about!” Masanori raised his cup once more. “Come join us.” He gestured towards the Geisha as she poured out two more cups.

“A toast and haiku then to what’s to come!” Masanori raised the glass up to everyone now in the pavilion.

“Blossoms with the fall
A fire blooms in our heart
Pale moon shines on.“

With that he and the Geisha both raise their cups and drink deeply of the saki.

Seikatsu Mitsunari

The house was immaculate and put his family's home to shame, great shame. It was very clear that this figure came from a wealthy family and perhaps that alone made them worth looking into. He followed their guide to the room where their associates were already seated and having a good time from the sound of things. As he used [Appraisal C] on the rest of the group, Mitsunari bowed his head and proceeded to introduce himself. "Greetings everyone. I am Seikatsu Mitsunari, the Sage who will be accompanying you all." His three tails were still, hanging lifelessly behind him as he raised his head back up and turned his gaze back upon the rest of their party.

Suddenly he caught a glimpse of his brother, a sickly figure skulking in the corners of the room and his eyes widened. He looked to Yukan and then back to the corner of the room and his brother was gone. He felt his heart racing and thought he might die, but he was glad that it was not really his sibling. Perhaps a memory or a waking nightmare. He quickly tried to compose himself and stepped down to join the others. This was surprisingly difficult for the fox.

Yukan had seen the space before but it didn't make it any less impressive as he followed the escort via Samurai. It wasn't long before he also found himself entering the space, Yukan continued with his Republic of Kuridan Etiquette F + Leadership F Giving a bow upon his entrance after Mitsunari introduced himself to the group. Yukan was not aware of the extent that thoughts were going through MItsunari's mind regarding his family, irrespective he needed to assert that this was what was going to happen.

"Indeed, Sage Mitsunari, I would like you to meet Logistician Masanori." He'd gesture respectfully. "Masanori-sama has assembled the team you see before you at this very table, all of them bringing value to the table, the outlook of the hunt is very promising with a team such as this."

"I Hope that moving forward all of you will accept Sage Mitsunari moving forward as one of our own, given the theme of this year and his abilities, I am certain that he will be most beneficial to our expedition to bring back a toad most suitable for the upcoming festival...Sage Mitsunari can fulfill a support role for our group composition for healing and then some. as we are all well aware how dangerous these large animals, I truly believe that he will serve a very complimentary role, and I'm certain that you'll feel the same way Masanori-Sama." Yukan continued before finishing up.
"Now then I believe a proper introduction is in order." the ball was now in the table's court quite literally, wanting the formalities in place, also stepping down so that he could join the others where the festivities were taking place, to sus out a place to go in relationship to the others.

Indicus looked at the two that just entered the room and listened as they introduced themselves Soon after Indicus felt the invasive feeling of Appraisal wash over him. The pair was the same politically polite as Masanori but he noticed the strange behavior from Mitsunari and watched the man glance at something that was not there eyes dilatated. Indicus opted to say nothing about the behavior as he addressed the pair. Using Appraisal on the kitsune granted an odd insight even if it completely failed even giving Indicus a minor headache. Mitsunari was strong at least a magnitude stronger then most in the room if he was to guess. This was mostly confirmed when he use Appraisal on Yukan granting much more information.

Indicus filed the information away for later and decided to introduce himself. "My name's Indicus, scout, decent fighter, and hunter." It was also time to see how the Kitsune and the Tanuki would react to his relatively rude action.
