Committing Effort for the day to automatically pass is a big cost! We can only do that a few times per day, and if we do, we can't use any of our fancy powers anymore. I think it's rare you'll see players spend Effort to pass a save unless it's the consequences of failure are truly dire.

ok u have a point

I'll try to finish my post today, I'm not actually used to daily posting frequency in a PbP lol

awrite i had an energy drink today so i think today is the day fr this time
You can do it! I know when I get behind in pbp, it causes some anxiety in regards of that game which in turns triggers avoidance behavior..

No idea if that's ever been your experience, but don't stress too much about it. I'll make a post today regardless, and if you are feeling drained or whatevs we can just post around you for a while and keep the ball rolling, then post like a summary of what has transpired (feeling like I have to read a novella can also keep me from posting sometimes when I've fallen behind). :)

It's not even that I make elaborate posts, its that im a depressive mf who can't work up the energy sometimes but im on a caffeine high rn and feel like i could fight god

I know the feel, bro/broette/brochetarion.

And since this is a godbound game, fighting god is a real possiblity.

ok my upcoming post might be a lil long since i ended up describing most of the fight lol

I just had a thought; hypothetically, if Orrin could get a Strength of 27, would that still only be a +5 modifier? 🤔

It still applies just fine to checks, though. You don't apply your modifier to strength checks, you just subtract your attribute from 21 to find the DC. So you'd have a DC of -6, meaning you had a 90% chance to succeed on even the most incredible feats of strength possible for a human (+8). That's the thing about attributes in Godbound - they're kind of irrelevant. They're just for little toy tasks, and are completely outclassed by Words.

I guess maybe Str and Dex are good for combat? I'm actually not sure if they're used for much. Oh, Dex applies to AC. So yeah, I think the physical stat bonuses are actually useful for something, where the mental stats are mostly just for decoration. Caesura will almost certainly never roll with her 22 Int, and her +5 int bonus is only contributing to her Evasion save. Likewise with Charisma, if you have 22 Cha you almost certainly have a bound Word that makes it obsolete.

Caesura doesn't even have a bound Word like Desire, but even she can spend an Effort on a Miracle to make everyone who witnesses her consider her the most important person in their life instantly, making Cha kind of redundant. The only reason I wanted her to have 22 Cha was vanity 😆.

The reason I ask is bcuz I saw the Frenzy word in the homebrew list and the Greater Frenzy gift for it. It honestly wouldn't even fit the character (at least, not as he is now,) but the idea of having 27 Strength in a system where having more than 18 in a stat is an extreme rarity just tickles me in a way i cant explain 😂

I completely understand - it's up the to ST if they want to extend the modifier table to give it a +6. Given 16 -> +3; 18 -> +4; 22 -> +5 we can infer that maybe 26 -> +6, 28 -> +6, or 30 -> +6, depending on whether we're switching to a regime of +1 every 4 attribute points, increasing the attribute increment by +2 for each bonus step, or doubling the attribute increment for each +1 modifier after +3. We don't have enough information to really say what the pattern is.

Edit: Oh wait, is it 18 is +3, 19 is +4, and 22 is +5? That's even weirder.

Unrelated, but wow the Frenzy word is insane. Followers' Rewards and Fervor of the Righteous are both crazy for Lesser powers, and FotR especially looks absurdly broken. Linear bonus scaling on number of followers? So if you get a hundred people together to follow you, you get +200 to hit, +200 damage, and +200 on saving throws? 😆 And all your followers have DR <your level> to prevent them from being slaughtered en masse by AoE? Paired with Pulling God's Teeth you could one-shot almost anything in existence. What has more than 200 HD?

I guess this is kind of where gifts come back around to rendering large numbers useless. Yes, theoretically a Might/Frenzy character with a hundred minio--err, followers, can one-shot four Made Gods in one hit with Loosening God's Teeth, but those Made Gods would also have gifts to help negate or mitigate that.

Though it would be fun to carry around a sack full of mooks and become a DB Super character. 🤣

hmmm good point. per...whats a realistic number of worshippers in a late godboundgame? no one really gave me a lot of criticcal info on my homebrew words.

My recommendation would be that the Frenzy word be forbidden to Free Divinities, and that the bonuses of Fervor of the Righteous be equal to the Faction Power rank of your Godbound cult, at absolute most. Even in late game, a +4 or +5 bonus to basically everything relevant to combat is YUGE

Of course, this means Orrin won't get to use it since I plan for him to be a Free Divinity, but hey, what can ya do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would also advise to avoid gifts that are flat bonuses as much as possible, since Godbound itself makes a point to try and avoid that as it doesn't really align with the ruleset's more narrative-oriented design philosophy, but that's all up to you.

Also, I'm gonna wait for a response from either Zaal or Kritas before I do my next post.

Dunno if you had anything in mind as far as the hierarchy for the Arcane Order caecgirl caecgirl , but I am imagining that they are ruled by a council of wizards called Magi (singular Magus), and that Kritas would be on said council. Not sure if that's more than you had in mind, if so we can just have 'Magus' be some form of lower title :)
