Futuristic The Voyages of the U.S.S. Phoenix

Since you're being pedantic, it's more an issue of mechanics. Their grammar is actually fine; colloquial, but not bad. Remember grammar is the structure--order and phrasing in a language; mechanics are the rules, such as spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.

I don't mean to come off as rude to you; it just seemed unnecessarily blunt of you. I feel like you were likely implying this roleplay was going to be semi-literate or higher. I agree: I just feel that more slack can be given out of character. Sorry if I come off as a know-it-all or control freak, though I am female enough for the b-word. ((🐶))

Karcen Karcen That is canon in Star Trek (one of the influences.) The Doctor in Star Trek: Voyager was an AI. Mind you, neither of us is the GM, so it's her say.

Geozaki Geozaki I would like to reserve the Communications Officer. As long as I am not expected to know Klingon.

Based on their reaction, they didn't take it as one. Next time, just clarify? Add a jk or lol.

Do you have any specific plans for the tactical officer? You implied they'd be an alien race?
Yeah, I've been thinking. Not sure what's gonna be in the CS but based on the amount of time it's taking i assume it'll be deep (i like it that way) so I've been brainstorming character ideas.

hmm this could be neat given this is the future with aliens abd such what of an AI a ships AI would that be avilable to perhaps taje up an open role?

Hey! I don't see any problem with you playing an AI character at all if you wish to join. As Lost Echo Lost Echo stated, The Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager was an AI, and on top of that the Orville has the Kaylon, a whole race of artificial life. So yeah, I don't see an AI character being an issue at all!

This sounds interesting, can I take the first officer role?
Geozaki Geozaki I would like to reserve the Communications Officer. As long as I am not expected to know Klingon.
No problem to both of you, I'll add you both to the reserved section of the introductory post right away. There will be no need to know Klingon ;)

okay that tells me i am good bye

Okay, while I do believe that it was simply meant as a joke and was not intended to be in any way malicious, I do completely understand why offence was taken.

Karcen Karcen you are still more than welcome to participate if you wish to, and I am sorry if you felt pushed away and do completely understand if you wish not to join in, but there is a spot for you if you want it.

AKIMBOCROSS AKIMBOCROSS I understand that it was just a joke, but I can fully understand why Karcen Karcen didn't take it as so as it was their first response upon joining the thread and although intended as a joke, it was a joke at their expense which can be hurtful even if you know it's intended as nothing more than a joke.

As a general rule to everyone, please refrain from making jokes at the expense of others unless you're 100% sure that they will understand it as nothing more than a harmless joke and, if offence is taken, please be understanding and apologise. As Lost Echo Lost Echo stated, this RP is indeed intended to be semi-literate so please be understanding of the fact that everyone has different writing styles and different strengths when it comes to grammar and literacy. I, for example, am completely inept when it comes to grammar, spelling, literacy and so on and rely heavily on predictive text and apps like Grammarly to ensure that what I write is as understandable as possible. I really want this RP to be a welcoming and accepting space for everyone to have some fun and be creative without any fear of judgement.

In other news, I apologise for my lack of any substantial progress to present, I was called in for another shift both last night and this morning on top of my shifts this evening and yesterday morning, so my set-up time has been greatly decreased. Although I hope to have at least the character sheet thread up by then, in a worst-case scenario I should have a full day off on Sunday. I'm really sorry.

It's fine! Yes, we're excited, but we're hobbyists. Real life is unavoidable. If there's anything we (not that I speak for everyone) can do to help, just ask. Mind you, I've never actually set up a roleplay before, so I don't know how helpful I can be.

Yeah, I've been thinking. Not sure what's gonna be in the CS but based on the amount of time it's taking i assume it'll be deep (i like it that way) so I've been brainstorming character ideas.
I keep running different species in my head, thinking of sci-fi books I've read. I have no idea what I'd be. I'm so indecisive. Even if I focus on communications it barely narrows the choices. The Aeluons from the Wayfarer Series communicate through color, it makes me wonder how I'd even roleplay that. It'd be a fun challenge.

Geozaki Geozaki
Just to be sure, the ships size..is about...like could you give a comparison in size? Since I re-read something about how the security team would be like the "police" on the ship..so I'm assuming the ship is quite larger than normal.

Let's a GO!

The year is 2498, and humanity ventures amongst the stars as a prominent member of the Galactic Union, a federation consisting of multiple species from numerous planets and star systems which work together under a banner of peace and freedom. The Union has an impressive fleet of ships ranging from fighters to frigates, one of these ships is the U.S.S. Phoenix, (U.S.S. = United Star Ship). The Phoenix is an exploratory ship, meaning that it and its crew are tasked primarily with exploring unknown regions of space and other similar tasks, though sometimes the Phoenix finds itself performing other duties too. You are a member of the crew of the Phoneix, and these will be your stories...
Apologies for the crude introduction, I've been thinking about this RP for a few days but wanted to post an interest check before thinking too hard about major details as I didn't want to flesh everything out fully if no one was interested. This RP is inspired by franchises such as Star Trek and The Orville and will follow the crew of the Star Ship Phoenix. Much like in the two franchises mentioned above, the ship will be home to its crew and their families and, as an exploratory vessel, the job of the Phoenix is to 'Boldly go where no one has gone before'. (Yeah... that was a bit plagiaristic, it won't be in the main RP lol). The RP will focus on the crew and their lives on board the ship in a sort of slice of life kinda way, and also on the new discoveries and dangers that they encounter during their journeys through space. In an ideal world, this RP will last for some time and we'll be able to experience many arcs throughout its lifetime, so if you're interested in creating your own 'encounters' for the Phoenix and her crew then that's awesome too. Let me know and we can discuss any ideas you have and work them into the story as best we can.

I wish to make it clear that you do not have to have seen either Star Trek or the Orville to participate in this RP, it's not a fandom RP as it will be separate from those universes, the idea was just inspired by those franchises. As long as you can enjoy the idea of a large crew living together and working together on a spaceship, then you'll be more than welcome.

As for characters, there will be 2 primary groups of characters, crew and family.

Crew - The crew will likely be our largest roster of characters, they are the people responsible for running the ship. From flying the ship to maintaining the ship and everything in between. These characters will get the most adventure and action.
Family - Each member of the crew will have their own quarters aboard the Phoenix and many crew members have family members living with them aboard the ship as well. These characters won't be active members of the ship's crew but will still live day to day. These characters will be mostly slice-of-life characters and generally will be less involved in the adventure elements of the RP however, they will still have to deal with any consequences and may get swept up in the action from time to time.

There will be other characters too, such as NPCs and the such.

We will, if possible, need a full command team. If a member of the command team is not accounted for then their duties will be split among the other command team members.
If you wish to request a specific role then say so and I'll put your name next to it to mark it as reserved. As an example, in this case, I will take the role of captain so my name is beside the captain role.

Captain - Geozaki Geozaki - The Captain is pretty self-explanatory. They are in command of the ship and any actions taken by the crew is their responsibility
First Officer - The First officer is the captain's second in command, they are often consulted when it comes to big decisions and, should the captain fall sick or be unavailable, the command will then fall to the first officer. (There can also be second officers, third officers and so on, but these titles will likely be given to other members of the command team rather than being separate roles of their own).
Helmsman - Mr. Skull Mr. Skull - There's often a large group of people aboard any ship who can fly it, but the primary helmsman is often the best of them all. It's their job to safely navigate the vastness of space while also being ready to chase targets or lay down some evasive manoeuvres should conflict arise.
Navigator - The navigator is often another helmsman who helps keep the helmsman on the right track.
Tactical Officer - AKIMBOCROSS AKIMBOCROSS - The Tactical Officer is in charge of the ship's weaponry and shields. While the hope is that they are required to do very little, especially on an exploratory ship, when they're needed they must be ready for anything, one mistake could be the difference between life and death. They are also in charge of the tractor beam.
Science Officer - The Science Officer is in charge of the Ship's scanners and is able to quickly contact the science teams through the ship to coordinate any required research, analysis or medical attention as required.
Medical Officer - Rarely seen on the bridge, the Medical officer is in charge of the team working to keep everyone healthy.
Chief Engineer - Mineczka Mineczka - The Chief Engineer is responsible for co-ordinating ship-wide repairs, they must be able to manage their teams and prioritise what needs repairing first to keep the ship operational, to aid them with this, their station has a detailed overview of the ship's systems, shield status and hull integrity. In addition to this, the engineer can allocate the ship's power to certain subsystems. The ship generally has a balance of power across all substations, but in the event of a loss of power or other extreme circumstances, some systems may have to be sacrificed to keep others operating as effectively as possible.
Chief of Security - Nothingness Nothingness - The Chief of Security's job is to keep everyone on board the ship safe. When working on the bridge they can see any reports from throughout the ship relating to injuries, damage or other oddities so that they can effectively command their security teams and, in the event that the engineer's display ceases to function, they can provide the Chief Engineer with live information on damage as it comes in from the ship's crew. The chief of security is also responsible to ensure that landing parties have adequate security details, keeping the people living on the ship safe from each other and keeping everyone safe from outside threats or the members of boarding parties.
Communications Officer - The communications officer is in charge of sending and receiving hails to and from other ships and will often deal with the majority of communications that do not require the attention of any other member of the crew.

The Helmsman, Tactical Officer, Science Officer, Chief Engineer and Chief of Security will all have teams working beneath them, responsible for keeping the ship running.
The helmsman will lead the other pilots and navigators on board. This team will be required to step in for the navigator or helmsman aboard the bridge if needed and may be asked to pilot shuttles or fighters at any given moment.
The Tactical Officer will lead the tactical team, the tactical team's responsibilities include helping come up with strategies to overcome difficult obstacles or enemies as well as keeping the ship's armoury and munitions safe and ensuring that the ship's weapons are functional at all times.
The Science Officer will lead the science team. The science team is huge and consists of many roles such as medical (Which is overseen by the Medical officer), research, analysts and so on.
The Chief Engineer will be responsible for running the engineering team. The engineering team are in charge of ship maintenance, installing upgrades and overseeing important ship functions such as the engine.
The Chief of security is in charge of the security team. The security team will have the most weapons training and must act like police officers aboard the ship. In addition to this, members of the security team will be called if there's ever a firefight on the ground, be it inside or outside the ship.

If you wish you can be a member of the teams if you don't wish to be the officer in charge of them, or if the official position has already been taken.

Apologies if this is hard to follow, it's quite late here right now and I'm still working on some of the details.

The RP is planned to begin after a massive repair job to the Phoenix, which was all but destroyed in a recent battle. Some of the crew will be new whereas others will have survived the battle. I know it's not much to go on right now, but thought I'd add that in case you want to think about your characters and how long they've been aboard.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Hopefully, we'll have a super awesome RP together!

Edit: Although I only mentioned Humans in the 'dramatic opening paragraph', you are more than welcome to play non-human characters. If you wish to be a member of a race that already exists in fiction, such as Star Trek's Vulcans, The Orville's Xelayans or Battlestar Galactica's Cylons then feel free. (Obviously, races not used as an example are welcome as well). You may also create your own species if you wish. The only real restrictions are that they can conceivably work within the RP and that they are not indestructible omnipotent god-like beings, in other words, nothing massively OP.
Interested! I wonder if it would be possible for the communications officer position to hold two people? Thinking of maybe a radio host kind of dynamic, but if that’s outside the limits that’s fine too

Yeah if I need to call a role medical officer is still open otherwise ship AI as sone kind of none physical auxiliary officer would be nice

Lol, I hadn't even thought about that.
We dont have a medical officer XD

I can only imagine everyone getting hurt and Captain is like..."walk it off!"

Yeah it is one of the last open though I figure an AI could have modules they can use to change their role with expert knowledge as needed to fulfill any role

This seems like a really fun premise! If its still open, I'm interested in the Science Officer.

Ahh..yes. More fuel to the fire...

I mean.... Your Chief Engineer would gladly say that.... XD

Alls I see:
"Can you move that part? Okay then, I see no issue."

Or...

An engineer walks into the medical bay with a splint for a broken arm made out of a driveshaft split in two and copious amounts of duct tape.

Huh, that sounds interesting. I'm willing to try it. I've been fitting a lot of this into my knowledge of Star Trek, so I'm not entirely sure how the radio host dynamic would work, but if you can explain more (and the GM agrees), sure? I am definitely okay with co-chiefs or something similar. Even without the dynamic. Whether we work together, split duties, or whatever.

If you have a character in mind, I'd be willing to step back from the spot. Geozaki said we didn't have to be just officers; lower-level crew members or even family (which implies a larger ship?) are allowed. I can be one of those. I haven't picked anything about my character, so I won't have anything to change.

I wouldn't get toooooo excited, a lot of the time has been caused by me being a complete dumbass and having to change things or messing up priorities and so on.

Also, that does sound like a super interesting idea if you do decide to go with it

Just to be sure, the ships size..is about...like could you give a comparison in size? Since I re-read something about how the security team would be like the "police" on the ship..so I'm assuming the ship is quite larger than normal.
The ship is fairly large, there would likely be approximately 400 crew members on board, as well as the families of many of the crew members as well. There would also be additional quarters to be used in the event that our mission at the time requires us to take more people on board. So on a normal day, depending on how many crew memers' families have decided to travel with them and how big those families are, there would likely be 400 - 1000 people on board.

Interested! I've been craving some trek rp.
Awesome! Welcome aboard!

And yeah good to hear AI is good. I felt it best to ask just in case.
Yeah if I need to call a role medical officer is still open otherwise ship AI as sone kind of none physical auxiliary officer would be nice
Yeah it is one of the last open though I figure an AI could have modules they can use to change their role with expert knowledge as needed to fulfill any role
Sounds good to me. Would you like me to reserve the medical officer for you, or would you prefer to be a multi-purpose sort of character? It could be both if you wanted, but as the Medical officer that would have to be your priority so while you could still have multiple functions, you would likely have to prioritise the medical care of the crew.

I have no problem with the idea of 2 communications officers. It would be fairly unorthodox to have 2 officers for a single division on the ship, but we could make an exception. Equally, if rather than sharing the role you wanted to be the officer and the second in command of the department that would be fine, or any other configuration. And yes, the roles aren't restricted to the command roles in the introductory post, they are just there as they are the roles that people might want to reserve. Characters can be any part of the team you want them to be.

This seems like a really fun premise! If its still open, I'm interested in the Science Officer.
I will reserve the spot for you

I made a small amount of progress after work last night when really, I should have been sleeping. (It was like 2am lol), I am going to work on it a bit more before work now and hopefully more when I get home later too.

I'll go with a both type that is mostly focused on medical for now.
