This is a very simple RP based off of the anime called Sword Art Online, that I’ve actually tried out in the past but had some issues that will be discussed in a moment. The storyline will be similar in the idea of the various characters being trapped in a VR Video Game where death in the game means death in real life. The only way to escape is to find a way to beat the game and it’s many floors. In the wake of the chaos, this plot will follow a party consisting of our characters in their struggle to survive and potentially escape. This is just an interest check for now. I have six classes below which can be taken by anyone, and there’s no pressure to fill each slot. Classes can double up until we have a total of 6-8 counting myself. First come first serve so be quick!

I don’t want any pressure on the classes as I don’t want anyone being forced to take a role they won’t enjoy. In the past I made the classes too co dependent on one another, which made the whole process kind of a forced experience that I feel ruined the fun of it all which is a big my bad. I’ve since reworked each class to be able to be theoretically used on their own by each individual player in the game! Another thing done away with is the idea of each character only specializing in one element of magic. It takes away the creativity of each characters set up, as different enemies are resistant and weak to different magics. No sense in reinforcing that co dependent idea by limiting characters magic use as well.
So if no character is tied to one type of magic, then what? Well it all comes down to the two types of classes. Melee focused classes’ equipment will have slots for runes that can be equipped to their preference. Some weapons will even have two slots which allows for multiple types of abilities to be used, and the results of these combinations can be discussed at a later date. In addition, certain weapons will already have an affinity for certain magic types. So the point is that melee classes’ magic will primarily be focused on their base strikes and combinations. But not all runes are created equal! Some will only present the potential for elemental damage, while others incorporate a new skill that can be used in combat to activate that type of elemental damage. Some will do both! (BTW if this isn’t making much sense, do let me know, and I’ll clarify!)

As for our magic focused classes, spells spells and more spells with the exception of the Oni which you can read up on in its class description. All three of these classes will learn new spells and skills that can be used instantaneously in battle without the need for equipping runes or using certain weapons. I feel this is fair given they forsake their ability for physical damage for the most part, so having a plethora of spells of varying types and elements balances that out.
Well JFO is a “Perma Death” VR title that centers around a forsaken realm overtaken by all manner of Ancient God and Primordial Entity from the Nemesis realm that harbors catastrophic power. Naturally it’s the players goal to take down this array of bosses, which is all good and well until you remember our characters have essentially been trapped in this world, where death is truly permanent. What does this mean? It’s a boss rush. There’ll be minor encounters with lesser minions, but by no means are they the main attraction as leveling up does not hinge on XP or anything like that. Your characters will grow depending on how many bosses they’ve felled.

This is another rework, as in the past I tried too hard to make this shit an RPG with turn based systems akin to Final Fantasy and such other games. Which wasn’t fun and made combat drag. I know ya’ll love some intense boss fights so that’s what will be the main attraction.

A holdover from the previous iteration is the presence of references and homages to other works as you’ll see down below with our beloved characters! Be it a simple quote in a weapon description, or a direct item from a different world! In addition, while we have our main set of bosses per floor. There will be 1-2 secret bosses that will all be cameos that our party can find and engage with! How you find them varies, and that will be discussed at a later time
So as I mentioned before, your characters advancement in this game is entirely dependent upon the main bosses they’ve fought. There will be mini bosses and minor encounters like I mentioned, but this will only serve to reward potential items and weapons. Actual advancement comes when you’ve earned the right to it. Granted it’ll be a fair scaling. We won’t have the party be getting their trash kicked in by a Nemesis God at the start. Instead it’ll be some of their lesser minions, who still possess the power of a God that can be dispersed to your characters. Right now I’m thinking one stat point per kill, but as the bosses get harder I see no issue with rewarding more stat points to keep the pace advancing. We’ll feel that one out and see.

But what are the Stats? There are four categories. Defense (your ability to take a hit and stay alive). Attack (your ability to deal damage). Speed (How fast your character moves, and by extension how quick they attack). And Mana (How long/many times your character can utilize a magical ability)

Melee classes start with five pre assigned stat points. Magic classes start with six. And as you earn additional points your character will assign to which stat they will go, thus building the character how you want with the limited points you have available. The scale of these points can be found below.

0 - Below Average Human
1 - Average Human
2 - Athletic Human
3 - Peak Athlete (Your Olympic champions of the world)
4 - Exalted Mortal (A taste of unnatural power)
5 - False God (Power worthy of fooling mortals, but the true Gods laugh at your infancy)
6 - Demi God (Godlike ability flows through your veins)
7 - True God (Your power rules worlds)
8 - Vexed God (Your wrath knows no bounds)
9 - Nemesis Entity (The Shadows begin to consume, and truth be spoken)
10 - Primordial (Cosmic Power is yours)
11+ - Forbidden Knowledge
Like I said, no pressure for classes but I will say I’d prefer no more than two per, just to keep things interesting! I intend this plot to be highly active, meaning no less than a post every week. Exceptions can be made later, as life happens I get that. Another thing is I want to hold the OOC over Discord just because in my experience it helps keep things lively! Aside from that, be friendly, be cooperative, and don’t be afraid to pitch in ideas! And as always, feel free to profess your interest or questions down below!

Classes

  • “Since it is so likely that children will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage.” - C.S. Lewis

A Melee class meant to absorb and dish out large damage. Though it’s durability may incite confidence, safety is never guaranteed in complacency.

Knights use some type of heavy weaponry, such as Great Swords, War Hammers, and Battle Axes.

    Defense: 3
    Attack: 2
    Speed: 0
    Mana: 0

Basic Skills: Knights harbor an affinity for blocking oncoming attacks of most varieties. As their equipment improves, so will their range of potential with providing cover for itself and any Allies alongside them.

Class Skill: Code Breaker - A God Stunning shield bash that deals 3x their typical melee damage. The base shield provides no status effects, but further on down the line their equipment can inflict a stunning effect, weakness, or even Armor Break! Elemental effects can be applied as well should your shield have a slot for a rune.

Ngl I’m not the biggest fan of the anime either but I love it’s concept and some of the ideas it presents, hence the inspiration!

I’m inclined to agree though. Nothing like a brightly colored tank to confuse the enemy 😂

I can't use discord, It's bena cting really crazy, Can you put the ooc in Rpnation?

Count me as well! I'll play the Knight so we have at least 1 of every class to keep it interesting. Oh and Discord works for me as well.
