An epic journey, a path to redemption, a quest that will bring an entire land out of darkness.

When the gods left the earth, chaos took over. Demons rose to power, enslaved humans, fought amongst each other, pillaged and warred without end. For a hundred years people prayed, and for a hundred years, most of the gods were silent. Then, the queen of the gods made a choice. She chose to fight on the side of humans and used her elite force to subjugate the most powerful demons on earth. One by one she defeated them, and placed an enchanted bangle on each of their wrists. Their powers sealed, they were given a choice: Flee, and let their power bleed from them until there was nothing left, or, join a quest, protect a band of humble humans on their perilous journey to the farthest reaches of the god kingdom to find the sacred scrolls of peace, and restore light to the world.

The dynamic here is going to be unique:

  • You can play a human, dedicated to one or more deities, they can be fighters, but there needs to be a spiritual element to their profession, a paladin, priest, monk, healer etc.
  • You can play one of the demons that has made the choice to join the quest and win their freedom. The demons were some of the most powerful, they aren’t anymore (though still pretty powerful), and their powers are tightly linked to the will of the humans they travel with. They will regain them slowly as the thread moves on.
Generally, the humans are good, pure and dedicated to the quest, and generally, the demons are morally grey at best, but those are not solid rules. You can make up lore and history for your characters, the demons’ backgrounds, or if a human, the deity they represent/worship. Humans can absolutely be bitter about the gods just up and leaving, and some demons might also be remorseful about the destruction their kind has caused.

This concept is high fantasy, but this is pretty much a version of Journey to the West, the story of the Monkey King (but made for a group rp) and it’s about redemption, reconciliation, responsibility and the nature of good an evil.

You can base your characters in any culture, this will not be limited to European or Asian concepts, but it will be embedded in a fantasy world, so no real places will be used.

This concept is going to be on the more advanced side of RpN, with detailed posts and characters carefully selected based on their originality and depth and people will be writing a lot of the lore themselves (Though I will need to approve it).

If this sounds like your thing, please reply! Add if you'd be interested in a human, or a demon or one of each.

This sounds amazing! I would be interested in playing as a demon!

Are we alllowed to include the—as OSP's red put it—child-leash magic migraine sutra (totally spelled that wrong; I'm gonna have to go look it up, later)

I'm definitely interested! One question, though, is the light and dark thing figurative or are they literally in a dark world?

I understood very few of those words in that order. Please explain.
So like—in the original journey to the west, Sun Wukong (the monkey king) got this magic circlet slapped on his forehead, and anytime he misbehaved, Tripitaka (monk dude who they decided to name after the scrolls, because Journey to the West is one big fat allegory) could recite a not-quite-but-kind-of spell called a sutra. It basically gave Sun a splitting migraine until he wasn't able to Do the Thing, anymore, only stopping when Tripitaka stopped reciting the sutra.

Yeah they have bracelets to something of that effect, I'll go into more detail about how they work if we get enough people and the thread launches.

Ebic~

Are we allowed to play more than one character? Because I think a healer human that only got wrapped up in this quest by accident, and a juvenilely spiteful demon would add a pretty interesting dynamic

Yup, though I'll set a rule that if you have 2 characters its gotta be one of each group. And max 2, this will be a detailed thread, so, a lot of writing for each.

I was thinking about making a human and a demon. The demon would be a bit of a "I just want to have fun" (his idea of fun generally being chaos) sort of character who's probably on the younger side for demons, while the human is pissed at the gods for leaving (they'll still worship a god, though, but it'll be more of a "I can do things for you, you can do things for me" relationship than anything else), even more pissed at demons for that whole "conquering the world and enslaving humanity" thing, and takes everything very seriously as a result (including things that it's probably overboard on). They're going to annoy the everloving fuck out of eachother.

There are. Several ways these characters can go. Less so for the human, but he still could probably get some decent variation

I'll have to interrogate you about demon culture before deciding for the demon, but so far I have (these are only the names of my self-made archetypes, not the character):

Imp(erial): they didn't start powerful, for a demon, so they figured out how to manipulate. How to scheme and strategize. They're confident and sly, but have attachment issues, and they don't belive they could ever learn to fight "like a real demon".
Possible arcs include:
-Chill arc (letting go of control)
-Insanity arc (tried to control too much and broke down after being forced to agknowledge they can't)
-Learning to fight
-learning to value others more than tools
-friendship is magic

War: Impaiteint and previously powerful, War is an archetype that craves violence as a quick end to a situation. They lack tact, but not colorful insults.
Arcs include:
-Chill arc (learn tact)
-Hunter arc (tries to actively hinder the party in some way)
-Shattered arc (tries to break the party apart)

Anxiety: Similar to War, Anxiety has never been without power. Now, they're abruptly aware that they're weak and at the party's mercy. They're afraid, and that subdues them, but there is DEFINITELY some hidden demon aggression in there.
Arcs:
-Confidence without power
-trying to make themsf indispensable
-Holy-hell-this-doormat-demon-is-actually-scary, sometimes
-Healer arc :D
-indecisive

Aaaaand some for the human:

Pacifist: Having grown up worshipping a god that generally holds up the belief that violence is unacceptable, Pacifist has never learned to fight in his life.
Arcs:
-Let him fuck shit up
-Chilling out the demons
-He can't save everyone
-Low-on-materials healing

Not-so-violent: NsV grew up worshipping a god of war known for her brutality. NsV pointed out that if you wanted a war, then there had to be all sides involved, including the desperate healers of both sides just trying to save everyone they can, friend or foe.
Arcs include:
-this guy's a healer??
-war god ain't just for show
-"I litterally cannot be the only one who cooks every day."
-Infecting the demons with morals reverse-psycology style

Reaper: Reaper worships a death god. Kind of. This death god's style is more like... everyone will end-up dead, eventually, and the more people there are, the more people they'll eventually acquire for their domain. So they help Reaper with healing, because they're in no rush.
Arcs:
-death god can Do Shit
-Life-threads
-This man is literally the wost fighter ever
-Stitching with Actual Threads of Energy

I was thinking of making a demon more based off of yokai. Actually....... I have a character that's already made probably just need to alter it a little to fit this.

I'm really interested in playing a human character that's some type of healer, who learned to be so from his family- but he's also not very respectful of authority; so he managed to offend his god in some way -and has to go on a quest to avoid getting his healing liscence revoked and/or lowkey disowned by his lil deity worshipping village. So he is not very happy about all that- and still regularly complains about the gods.

And for the demon character
Some type of dream/sleep demon who is too lazy to be that evil; and is salty about getting dragged into this despite being too busy sleeping to cause trouble when the whole demon takeover was happening

Well, I was going to have the "strongest demons" but, I could change that to, just "the ones the god queen thinks might actually not murder all the pilgrims intentionally or otherwise". And it'd be funny if one of the pilgrims is on the quest because "Their god said they'd be fired if they didn't" XD
