Sounds like a good choice, it seems reasonable to make up a bit of backstory and fluff pertaining to your character's original species to flesh things out, but Terran is probably fine too.H'llo everyone.
I'm having a bit of a dilemma that I'm wondering about, so I thought I'd mention it to hopefully get some inspiration from you guys.
I am desperate to play one of my characters (not RP'd with him in several months), but I'm not sure whether to just go straight Terran or to have him be another race with a humanoid appearance but perhaps some differences in the physical or mental. For example, I was thinking Betazoids from Star Trek; my character isn't physically fit at all, so having his mind enhance what he can do with weaponry seemed like a good idea.
A rundown of Betazoids are that they are empaths to a telepathic degree, and in an RP sometimes that kind of power isn't the best, so I'm certainly not married to that.
In previous incarnations of him, he has been a bit more resistant to physical pain and mental stress, so he has made a good juggernaut or tank when paired with heavier armour.
Any thoughts? I'd love to hear what you guys think!
I often like it when a character's "powers" end up being more of a flaw than a boon. So I'm thinking a massive flaw of this betazoid-esque race being information overload, or overstimulation. It would make sense for them not to be able to interpret each others' psionics, since alongside a "power" like this must come defenses. So imagine someone going from a culture where they can occasionally interpret simple psionics of animals, non-betazoids, and etc, and then thrown into a world that is not betazoid-heavy.Sounds like a good choice, it seems reasonable to make up a bit of backstory and fluff pertaining to your character's original species to flesh things out, but Terran is probably fine too.
It makes sense to have a skilled combatant on what is basically a hunting trip, and a character that experiences strong empathy can develop interestingly.
BuggaBoo Looks good! Go ahead and drop it in the CS thread.Hi!!
Alright here is Calli!

- Calliope Brillianté Majesty Jones -
"I'mma regret this... but here goes!!"
Girl/She/Her(s) | 25yrs | 5'1" | 110lbs
Faemiliar 5.0 | Lesbian| The Loveable Rogue
~Appears:
Calli is short with dark orangey-brown hair with fuzzy orangey-red skin with several broad brown stripes that cross her forehead, cheeks, back, arms, thighs and tail. She is curvy enough but a strong tight bod is what matters more to her. Peak physical fitness and fine musculature she values much more so than any sultry hourglass figure could provide. She has heterochromia with her right eye coloured green and her left eye coloured yellow. Regardless of colour there always seems to be a glint or shine in her eye whenever she has an idea; terrible or otherwise random. She has a smile firmly stamped upon her lips and shiny, sharp white teeth constantly flashing her signature grin, followed by a wink and nod. She is quite practical with her clothes, not too showy and definitely function over form mentality. Style wise, Calli is normally found in riding leathers and a white tee and Fibre-weave leggings. Her colour schemes may be drab and even dark, but her orange coloured body, big shiny eyes and vibrant personality more than make up the monochromatic stylings of the Faeralis female. But the one thing she always seems to wear gloves or other some other kind of hand wear; Calli always complains that her hands are cold. And so that's where her nickname "Ms. Mittens" comes from.
Body Mods/Scars: Gold and Black Tattoos, Pierced: ears, septum, navel and hood. Scars from fights and falls, but massive one on her left thigh which she will love to embellish the story of the bitemark.

Calli is a part of a freeroaming bio-engineered race that has recently adoped the name: Faeralis. Originally from Ziggurai-07, the Faemiliars were first produced as small, toy-sized creatures. They were created to be little, walking, talking (and sometimes swimming or flying) pets for those who may afford such exotic luxury. The 'Fae' part of their naming scheme comes from the word 'faeries' which is how the first 2 generations were modelled; little adorable elfin creatures. The 'Familiar' part of their naming scheme was a mix of 'family' and 'familiar' as in creatures that bonded with supernatural beings via telepathic or empathic bonds. But by the time the 3rd and 4th gens came about, the bio-engineered pets took on more of sinister roles. Gen 3 were part of a shadow war meant for sabotage and subterfuge. Gen 4 were outright mass-produced beasts of all-out-war. But as the wars waned the Faemiliars were soon corralled and later culled due to signed peace treatises and accords for the Ziggurai solar system and neighbouring systems, Pyramius and Tempalo. Yet no one had foreseen the emergent property of the 3rd and 4th gens. Engineered to be infertile, it seemed as if the gen 3 and gen 4 managed to cross breed. And thus the 5th generation came to be. For years they kept hidden, cloistered away amongst only their own kind. Their population grew quickly as the 5th gen are fully grown adults after only 4-5 years old. Although living together in close quarters, they still split into 2 separate species: the canidae and felinae. And finally when they were discovered, hidden amongst the populace of the Tri-sister systems, they were hunted down with extreme prejudice. The survivors boarded their space vessels and decided to split up, canidae went one way, felinae went the other. Far off into interstellar space they found themselves, separated, but still thriving.Calli's great-grandparents were part of that exodus and joined the ships that branched away from the main group of felidae where they landed on a hospitable mining planet populated of mostly human colonists. They found refuge and proliferated here on Vatarri-05. And it was a soon enough they became a space faring race again, as her grandparents generation of felidae Faemiliars took to the stars and first coined the name for themselves; the Faeralis.

You could start with the list of what archetypes are available, choose 2 and start there?I am completely brainless to think what kind of character I want to use.
Can I make an android? The archetypes are more like loose guidelines than something you need to abide to; they were made for this exact instance, when you aren’t sure which way is up. Take your time, you’ll figure something out in one way or another.
What are you thinking?Wait, I have a better idea.
I'd love to discuss characters, plot opportunities or whatever with you lot, so do let me know!Hi, sorry again for the lengthy wait time to actually get things started. Feel free to discuss your characters or possible plot opportunities here, or just miscellaneous banter, I don’t mind.
Can I help too?I'd love to discuss characters, plot opportunities or whatever with you lot, so do let me know!
One thing I was thinking about, relating to my character and potentially Nellancholy 's as well: droids/drones/cyborgs vs Zirzolan's psionic interpretation? Would they produce psionic projection, or something similar? Any thoughts?
Of course! I'd love to get a little in-universe ideas chat going, and learn more about everyone's characters (from an OOC perspective at least, since I don't believe any of our characters know each other). Can I help too?
News, in SPACEOf course! I'd love to get a little in-universe ideas chat going, and learn more about everyone's characters (from an OOC perspective at least, since I don't believe any of our characters know each other).
On that subject though, perhaps our characters have maybe heard of each other's accomplishments or whatnot. That's down to GM discretion of course, but certainly Weiss has a lot of scientific credibility going for her, so maybe some characters who follow that know of her.
As for my Lull, he's a big ol criminal, so maybe his exploits have been on the spews (space news) before.
That gives a lot of different platforms for RP I feel, very nice. Certainly, Lull wouldn't notice anything for a long time probably, since he is, as you say, trying to block things out. But, in combat, he allows those psionics in, since they assist him greatly; perhaps something might show up there, dependant upon what Weiss was doing at that time.0stinato
Certainly the identity of Dr. Weiss would be fairly well known, but probably mainly to those who run in academic xenobiology or explorer circles. The kind of name you see on a lot of journals, but not the ones on the space news presenting groundbreaking discoveries.
A particularly sensitive psychic might notice that her signature is rather muted, mechanical even. But someone actively trying to shut things out might not.
Hmm, maybe psionics in this universe are some kind of Prim molecular wavelength, so obviously inorganics are off the grid. Entities of pure science and reasoning. I think the most they might do is affect the particles around them if they have simulated emotions, so they might create something that seems like a psionic signature but is superficial, giving a very two-dimensional impression.I'd love to discuss characters, plot opportunities or whatever with you lot, so do let me know!

I was wondering how Prim would factor into psionic interpretation, so it's interesting to hear this. It'd be very fun if there is something to read, but that something just isn't 'right.' Honestly, the RP potential with the psionics, of seeing the weaving of the other characters' minds, that's what I'm looking forward to the most right now! It'll be so fun to see what a faemiliar brain prioritises as a strong emotion, for example, in comparison to Lull's experiences with other species. I doubt he's ever met a faemiliar before.Hmm, maybe psionics in this universe are some kind of Prim molecular wavelength, so obviously inorganics are off the grid. Also, I don’t see why characters can’t have heard of each other, I just wanted an emphasis on them never having met one another personally. One might know of Dr. Weiss, but likely have never actually met them, and if Lull is part of that crazy rehab system, those on the crew will likely know about said system beforehand and that it will be put into effect on this expedition.

And yeah you make a good point: if you have a crewmate with some pretty colourful criminal background, it'd probably be for the best to make that very clear to the rest of the crew. But don't worry, I'm sure he has very strict standards to live up to with parole...
Did you read over the first post? I don’t feel as though you’ve grasped the tone; Katarina feels like she was made for another roleplay. There isn’t a Spetsnaz anymore, for starters, and you left a lot of your form unfinished.DONE WITH MY CS!
