I feel I was leaning too hard into Jekyll and Hyde turf and that’s been done to death. So I’m kinda reorienting so my Leech will have already been down that path years ago and is now just sort of living as a more realized version of themselves.
Is she still going for the angle of upgrading herself with technology? Or going for lore of an inventor role?

Oh most definitely upgrading, just a bit more subtle for now. Mostly bc it is an absolute trial to find art that fits the idea in my head. Same sort of premise but toned down. Less ‘that’s a monster’ and more ‘I want to be a monster’

Let me see what I can find for you. Maybe I can turn something up.

I think I’m going with these for now, just gotta write up the bio! And I’ve seen a few of those already! Used quite a few of them to filter things out.

Those are great! Good finds! I like those better. Especially the masked one.

Lol I don't have my bio. Still not entirely sure what his past is. Professor(?) and Aspiring Criminal mastermind. Other than that, my mind went blank.

How did he become a professor? What was the school life like? Did he make friends easy? Did he find it difficult around other people? How does he see the world and the people in it? Are other people just puzzle pieces waiting to be solved and slotted into the right space with his help?

How does he live his current life? What’s good about it and what could be better? How easily could he make it better if there wasn’t any type of morality attached to it? Do people stand in his way or are they the key to making his life better?

Does he see beyond the day to day ? Why and how? Is he a puppet that can see the strings or is he an actual puppeteer? Does he dream of something better? If so, on what scale? For himself? For his close group? For humanity? What exists in the world that can be better by his unrestricted hand?

Those are all things, too, you can determine during play. I always like—for games like this—to have it a really vague idea and then fill in details as part of scenes or flashbacks so they’re useful in the context right then.

So fun.

Im pretty cool with that! Will help me tie things together as I understand the lore and city and factions better.

And will give me time to really nail down some of Frixs excellent questions.

To that end, am I missing anything on my CS, boss?

No, I think you’re looking good. Again, as we play, you might find certain parts of the character sheet more useful than others and you can adjust accordingly.

The only thing I’ll point out is that there is a playbook XP track and an XP track for each attribute (insight, prowess, resolve).

You actually track all those separately.

Teh Frixz Teh Frixz , your character is awesome. One thing, like I mentioned for D. Rex D. Rex , each attribute has its own XP track. Make sure to add those so you can track the attribute XP.

All the characters are fantastic. All are approved. Well done.

Give me a bit and we’ll get started on the crew sheet.

I’ll adjust! I just shamelessly stole the formatting from Rex and plugged in my own stats. Loving all these characters so far, I think the mix will be fairly spicy. Just gotta align our goals and before we know it, the city will be ours

Steal away! It's repurchased from what we use in exalted. Glad I'm able to help!

Lol I like that we all seem like we are new additions to Batmans rogues gallery.

Yes! I love it!

Okay, so let’s make your crew!

Step 1: Crew type

We choose a type of crew. Keep in mind, this sets group’s purpose, the crew special abilities, and how the crew advances.

I think you guys talked about choosing Shadows. That sets your how the crew gains XP as:
  • Execute a successful espionage, sabotage, or theft operation.
  • Contend with challenges above your current station.
  • Bolster your crew's reputation or develop a new one.
  • Express the goals, drives, inner conflict, or essential nature of the crew.

Also, your hunting grounds have these activities based on your crew type:
  • burglary
  • espionage
  • robbery
  • sabotage

Does that sound on point?

I'm down with a Shadows style crew. I think our char seem to be better geared for the more clandestine sort of affairs than anything violently overt. Not that we won't be violent, of course

I agree! We want to get our hands on forbidden knowledge and secrets (espionage), we're willing to burgle and rob to get forbidden sources of knowledge (and wealth, of course), and that skill set lends us towards sabotoge, which we're willing to do for a price.

We prefer to not be violent, because that's messy, inefficient and brings the wrong kind of heat (and sure, sure, ethics and whatnot). Our crew is far too "intelligent" to rely so much on violence.

We probably want to boost our reputation so that we get more avenues: to get the real secrets and wealth, we need to get the really exclusive clientele, right?

How about we start ourselves with a focus on Espionage?

We are a new gang, after all. And given our intellectual tendencies, I think it is only proper that we craft our foundation on a principal we all seem to share. "Knowledge is power".

Of course we will earn coin while doing so, but our endgame is the knowledge itself. Of the city. Its movers and shakers. Who has what, and where is that what.

Then as we grow... patiently and effectively... we bide our time when we can use that knowledge to its fullest.

That is what Phineas would recommend.

Personally, Wilhemina has little issue with violence as a means to an end. But if playing the long game showing patience gets her to where she wants to be, there’s no complaints coming from her. As long as we are seeing progress.

If we rely on Phineas to come up with plans. Then I am sure he can find plenty of uses for Willhemina's talents. After all, we can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs. And I plan on making a really really big omelet.

Shadows definitely seems like the type of crew we are going for.

Espionage sounds like a good starting point but if Myrke finds out about some interesting magic, he's gonna push for going after it, and sabotaging those who would use magic for ill reasons.

I think out of everyone Myrke might be the one who is most against violence since his whole schtick is gathering and using magical artifacts and technology to better the lives of the average people. Not to say he won't fight or knock someone else out but killing should definitely be the last resort.

Well, we ARE a criminal organization. So I don't think we can exactly promise that we won't be using magic for ill reasons. I'd wager thats probably exactly what we'd do if given the chance. *points at willie* I mean, we aren't really good guys.

That said! Phineas certainly would be against massacres. And keeping ither gangs from doing their dirty deeds also keeps said gangs from profiting from it. So his methods could be argued of being good for the commonfolk. That what they become will ultimately be the lesser of evils that would benefit all of the city in the end. He can work plans around being as stealthy as ghosts, and keeping troublesome violence to a minimum. A gentle hand will help us keep the heat down, after all.

Not to mention, there is certainly value in maintaining good will among the more innocent populus. A cooperative people certainly makes certain jobs much easier.

Still... our city is not a city that knows innocence. Its corruption runs far far far too deep. The number of clean hands are likely few and far between, and shrinking with every passing day.

Sadly should we only restrict ourselves to kind business, we will not be able to bring about our full potential. Opportunistic burglaries, for-hire work, and other such unsavory jobs will be how we grow. Will be how we set ourselves up for success and find and carry out those jobs that net us some magic and tech.

Yet, I think some of our characters might have issue about giving such prizes over to charity.

Myrke is and will be so so soooo precious to Wilhelmina. His paranatural heritage, his mystic schtick, and the whole collection of ‘magical’ and mundane artifacts is just something she’ll love on every level.

I’m curious as to how bold our crew might grow to be, seeing as if we play our cards right, our horde of items might become exponentially more important to others.

Yet, I think some of our characters might have issue about giving such prizes over to charity.

I mean, we can’t all be selfless martyrs for the greater good. What good has charity done in the long run? First and foremost should be securing absolute power for ourselves, then we can look into fixing people that can’t fix themselves.

The idea is to reverse engineer the magic and make it more easily accessible. To better and improve the quality of life for everyone, not just the few. Myrke's goal is to be better than the people he steals from. Just because you are a criminal doesn't mean you have to be evil.

So this'll be fun for character interactions! :P

Myrke would find Wilhelmina interesting as well. The idea of using magic and supernatural energies to enhance the body would have never occurred to him.

I think Myrke could easily be loved by all. He so cute it will be hard not to.

I think the city is too far gone for simple charity. With so many gangs. Give a family some coin to help, and by the end of the day they will be mugged and the coin in the hands of an enemy gang. Potentially putting the family in fatal danger.

Even at the higher levels, nobility and law are corrupt to the marrow. And no better than gangs themselves. How long have they been in power how effective have they really been in keeping the gangs at bay?

Imagine if you will, the benefit of our home territory. To be able to hold it, and grow it. To keep it secure. Sure, not all of the protection would come for free, but the improvements we could make in their lives, especially compared to the turns of other gangs, we could eventually have streets begging for us to release them from the shackles of the more violent gangs. Imagine going as far as to turn the territories of rival gangs against them?

Ambitions! Phineas has many. But step by step. We will grow bold, but all in good time. We are shadows after all, and your spider will help make sure that everyone we strike from those shadows, our succes will be all but inevitable.
