The world as we know it is headed towards the end of its existence because of deadly aliens called Gravelings. The Cardinal Corps was formed and given the mission to try and save the planet and it's respective inhabitants by destroying these aliens and finding out where they come from and how to get rid of them once and for all. This mission is important. The fate of the battle, nay, the war, nay, the entire world rests on the outcome. Who has the capability to stick it out, to give the good guys the victory they desperately need? This calls for a special team. They decided to form an elite squad of soldiers after every graduating class. This squad would be a special unit and would take on harder and more dangerous missions than the other soldiers to prevent unnecessary casualties and death. It would be known as the Crisis Relief Unit (CRU). The past CRUs have gained unique information but nothing that can quite turn the tide of battle. But, with this new class of trainees, some commanders already spot skilled soldiers and think these might be the ones that will take it all the way. Maybe. Not to mention the military has just received notice of a new commander joining the ranks. This commander is said to be special as well. Very skilled and tactical. He will be the commander for the new CRU.

So essentially this will be a roleplay about a quirky team of skilled soldiers who save the world. There is a handful of small details and information I want to list real quick.

Gravelings

Deadly aliens that roam Earth and Space. They can vary in size, color, appearance, power, and even abilities. They are truly a scary species. Some people speculate that some Gravelings can have a higher level of intelligence than others.

Cardinal Corps

Military dedicated to eliminating Gravelings and finding out where they come from and how to get rid of them permanently. Also responsible for defending Earth and gathering information on Gravelings. The Cardinal Corps use special weapons called Runes. They can range from swords, spears, guns, axes, scythes, etc. They are powerful weapons used to rid of the monstrous species that inhabits Earth.

Cardinal Training Corps

Branch of the Cardinal Corps dedicated to training and educating trainees to become respectable soldiers.

Essence

Essence dwells inside all living organisms and throughout the atmosphere. Think of this as energy. It can boost the power of Runes and even grant soldiers unique abilities like fire powers or enhanced physical abilities. The only downfall is that Essence also dwells within Gravelings and it also grants them abilities. Wielding Essence is something Humans are still discovering and learning about. Scientists speculate we can use it in many more ways and it has tremendous potential.

Cursed Bloods (Might think of a better name. Doesn't flow out the mouth that well.)

These are very rare soldiers who have had Graveling blood injected into their system and had it mix with their own blood and Essence granting them a special super-human power unique to them. This reaction happens because the already different, but powerful blood from the Graveling, filled with it's own Essence mixes with the Human's blood and it's own Essence to form somewhat of a special mutant blood and mix of Essence that is called, Cursed Blood. The powers are very very unique and are different from powers granted by regular Essence. You're probably wondering why anybody wouldn't want this. Well, it's very heavily frowned upon to have the enemy/very creatures that are destroying your home land and killing your people's blood in your body. Cursed Bloods are also known to have bad side effects and reactions to certain things. For example, they might have migraines often, bloody noses, a messed up mindset, different reactions to Gravelings, intense pains, etc. It is common to gain disorders with it as well. Now, how people get Cursed Blood, most people with Cursed Blood were given it by force as an experiment. Others willingly volunteered but that's extremely rare.

Also, to give a little example. Think of regular Essence powers like small time abilities like being able to shoot fireballs or summon lightning or fly or something. Cursed Blood powers are those but on a much greater scale, complete fire manipulation, full shape shifting, healing factor, gravity manipulation, etc.

There might be more abilities, equipment, gear, etc. that pop up later in the roleplay.

Please please please let me know if you have even the slightest bit interested in this or if you have any kinds of questions. I am fully willing to answer them.

So is this sort of like XCOM with superpowers? Aight. I'm down with being the pilot that gets people to places and then hovers around for air support.

Mmmmm. Think more like Infinite Stratos or Hundred. Except no battle armor or suits or anything.

I thought there is a more boots-on-the-ground kind of vibe going on. XD

Same. This especially:

It seriously sounds like you are describing X-COM and we are the special elite squad that follows The Great Commandy One's edicts. The rest of your opening post as well infers a CRU chases aliens around to anal probe them and see how they like it.

Side note what would be your stance on a chopper pilot? I'd like to take the squad to places and support them from above if possible but if they'll all be flying around by themselves I'm obviously going to need to pick something different.

I mean that could most definitely be something that happens. You could like drop soldiers off at mission points and pick them up as well.

Cool. DIBS ON DA CHOPPA (You must get to it).

I will take musical requests for a situation of someone's choosing, but when I'm off to give close air support you lot get some quality tunes.

I am intrigued and I don't know if I my character will go to karaoke with the heli-bard or crack a ukulele over his head 🤔

...Intrigued.
I have a few questions, though.
What happened (if anything) to Earth?
Are there other weird substances like the Essence? Are we allowed to make up our own?
What happens if the Essence and Graveling blood combine?
What determines the powers that the Essence or Graveling blood give a human?

Well, until someone responds, I'm just going to write and see where the wind takes me

Well, I wrote a thing.
Dr. Tricia Requirem walked in this morning, excited, if not darkly, by what she could accomplish. With her, in her inner coat pocket, was a vial of something that had taken months of research, careful calculations, and work to acquire. Inside the vial was the blood of a Graveling, a substance that had taken a painful amount of effort to acquire, and they finally had found it, traces of it, at least, around a broken battleground of a dying universe. It wasn’t just pure graveling blood, no, they had needed something to make it a bit more potent, a bit more volatile. They had mixed it with a concoction of her own design. She called it Agony, a substance made from torturing any being, they just needed to know how to extract it. I had something to do with how large amounts of pain and despair transmuted the Essence in a person. And she had, finally. After years of research, she had found out how to break a SOUL completely and extract Agony from that. Agony, unlike the graveling blood, was very volatile and the mixture had seemed to produce wonderfully enhancing effects on whoever they injected it into, but they ended up dying. The substance, which reproduced at an alarming rate, seemed to replace the cells of living beings very fast, systematically destroying the organism and replacing it with it’s own life, which eventually failed without a host. So she had decided to try another being, one not so susceptible to that kind of destruction.
She had chosen a Cursed Blood.
His will had been strong, very strong, in fact, but the forceful removal of his wings and his continuous torture had broken him down, but not completely. They had extracted some Agony from him, but not a lot, so his will wasn’t completely broken. He had no hope, but his determination, what would hopefully give the Agony-Celestial blood, what she fondly called the Ink, direction, was still there, just hidden beneath the pain.
In other words, he was perfect.
Once he saw her enter, the subject’s form, balled up in the corner of the test chamber, stumps of his wings still on his shoulder blades, scrunched up a little more, afraid of what might happen, his trench coat in tatters. Good. Fear is the best motivator.
She had brought her cane, of course, a black iron rod with a silver ball on top. It was imbued with powerful, powerful, Essence, which had been helpful for defending against the subject, which she had found in the same place where she had found the graveling blood, and it gave off readings like nothing she’d ever seen before. It’s power was unparalleled.
She had done many experiments on the subject, but this was the REAL one. The one that might change everything. Besides, humanity needed a super-soldier, one more obedient, and this kind could easily defend itself, and humanity, against any type of threat. Especially if it was aimable. Point-and-shoot. A Weapon.
Her assistants scurried around, preparing everything, the injector, the wall, everything.
She sat in a chair on the other side of the glass, watching as the fake wall on the side of the chamber moved forward, bringing the subject closer. One of the assistants injected the subject with the Ink, and they waited for something to happen.
At first, it didn’t, it seemed normal, just the subject getting weaker.
And then it happened. The subject’s eyes turned black and he seemed to be going into shock. The Ink started to spread from the subject’s arm, where they had injected him, and the places where it spread started to melt downwards, the Ink not stabilizing itself into a harder form, and becoming the goopy slop that they would probably have to mop up later. Or, rather, her assistants would.
First went his arm, melting downwards as his Inkified hand tried to claw at the glass, and then his side and the side of his face, many of her assistants muttering. This was going exactly as it had before. She was ready to call off the experiment, decide it was a failure, when the Subject talked. That had never happened before…
“I… I understand now…” The subject mumbled as he drooped to the floor.
“What? What do you understand?” Dr. Requiem said urgently, trying to force answers out of him.
“The world…”
“What do you mean? This world? This planet?” The Doctor waved at one of her assistants to make sure they were recording. They were, but lights were flickering. She motioned for them to switch to backup generators. They already had.
“No, the universe… the multiverse, even, I see it now…”
“What about it,” She pressed urgently, “What about the universe?”
“It’s… it’s… the world, it’s…” the subject stuttered out as his face continued to melt.
“What? What is it? TELL ME!” The Doctor yelled, wanting to get answers out of him before he died.
The lights went off, covering the lab in darkness. She heard the slight cracking, then a shattering of glass. A snicker bubbled up from the subject’s throat, a snicker which turned into a chuckle. A chuckle that turned into a full-blown laugh. Even though she couldn’t see anything, she swore, she SWORE she could see him smile, that melting, demonic smile, a feeling that chilled her to the bone.
