Good night or day, friends

I've been thinking of running a D&D campaign on here for a while since I can't DM anything irl, so I got myself a campaign book that looked cool, read through the setting and the lore a bit, and I'm willing to give it a shot. When it comes to online DM experience, I've run part of "The Dragon of Icespire Peak", a roleplay which has kind of died down mostly through my own fault, but I'm looking to do it better this time.

I would mainly be following the storyline of the campaign and the ruleset of D&D 5e, but obviously with some minor adaptations to make it more interesting to play online.
Which adaptions would that be, you ask? I'm honestly not 100% sure yet, and it will definitely be a bit of trial and error. I want to keep the original ruleset as much as possible (since it obviously works), but make some changes to allow for the slower pace of online posts. Combat will be slightly different and the focus will be more on character interaction.

I do aim to keep this campaign friendly to both veterans and newbies to D&D, so all are welcome.
If you have already played Storm King's Thunder before or know what happens somehow, I do ask that you let me know so we can work something out.
I'm looking for a cast of about 10 players.

So, if there would be any interest in joining me for this sort of adventure, please shout "AYE" or just post something here. Or do both.

"Frequently" Asked QuestionsWhat will be the post requirements?
I don't like enforcing a minimum (definitely not a maximum) amount of words, but I would like to discourage posts with just a short couple of sentences.
It's not like I'll be banning anyone if they don't write enough, but I ask everyone to try to give your imagination and your co-players some things to work with.
Same goes for grammar: if you show that you're at least trying, I'd say a few mistakes here and there can be forgiven.

What level will we be starting at?
We will be starting at level one just for the sake of allowing a stronger focus on roleplay and character interaction, but we'll be bumping up those numbers pretty quickly :)

What content is allowed?
I'm going to use D&DBeyond as a reference for what is "vanilla". If you can't make your character there without adding homebrew rules, just let me know about what exactly you're looking to do and we'll discuss it!

AYEEEEEEEE! (Probably)

Now a few questions:
-What will be the post requirements?
-What level will we be starting at?
-What content is allowed? Any official books not allowed (planeshift included)? Is unearthed arcana allowed? What about homebrew?

Awesome to see, thanks!

Unearthed arcana and planeshift are neither homebrew nor “vanilla” though. What’s your stance on those?

If you want to use anything outside of the "vanilla", it's all good as long as I can look it up online and then pretend I'm smart and knew about it all along :^)

In other words, as long as there's some "official" documentation to be found on it online, it's all good! Just tell me about the super funky ones

Noted. I don’t really agree level 1 is the most conductive for roleplay (mostly on account of the limits it imposes on character possibilities), and I’m a bit iffy on the no requirements thing, but I’ll give it a shot.

I'm interested! With Descent into Avernus down (and me still in the mood for D&D), I'd love to give it another chance if you'll have me. :)

Given I made her and barely had a chance to play her, I'd be inclined to bring over my Halfing Mage, Chise, if that works.

That sounds great! I'm just looking for a minimum of 10 players, but you're definitely one of them then :)

Are you sure? That's a lot of players for a D&D campaign. Most I've seen average around 5 or 6.

Not that there's necessarily a problem with more people of course.

Well, true, but from the rp's that I've been in over the years I've noticed that at least half of the starting cast tends to drop out, so I wanna have a good safety margin so we don't end up playing with just one or two left :)

of course we could also just start off when we have a about five, and people can always pick in at later points

I'd be interested! Not entirely sure if I've done something like this before, but I like D&D and I have a couple of character ideas, so why not put my name on the list? This looks really cool :)

Well, considering that I’m free to join another rp, maybe I can join up with you guys once again in another rp, considering the last one kinda died (and I was a bit inactive for the latter parts) but I was thinking of heading back in, and possibly giving Timmothy (or another character idea) a go

I might be able to jump into another game. Just would have to come up with a good concept for this.

What system for the attributes are you going to use?

AYE! This sounds wonderful and while I have never done RP online before, I would love to join! :)

I’d like to join, if you still have room! Never played in a written format before, but I do have a good bit of 5e experience and would love a chance to play Storm King’s Thunder :)

Thanks for all your answers! Sorry it took me a while to get back to it.
All of you are absolutely 100% welcome!

Do be warned, we might have a bit of a slower start since things at work will be hectic here for the coming week or two.

Sherwood Sherwood attributes are likely going to be just as 5e. As far as I know at least, granted I haven't actually physically played d&d but I've seen my share of Critical Role :^)

I'll start thinking of a good opening post and will tag you all in the relevant threads soon, thanks for the interest guys!
