MORES HOMINUM.

Tab One: Introduction. "Hell is empty and all the devils are here."

The work of hunting down the nation's most prolific serial killers is nothing short of terrifying. Understanding the criminal mind takes nerves of steel, a sharpened skill set, and a bright mind. Why do these murderers do what they do, what makes them tick, where are they located, and what could they do next?

These questions, and the monumental task of hunting these offenders down, is executed by the Behavioral Analysis Unit, or BAU, of the FBI. They are an elite team of America's most brilliant minds working together as criminal profilers to understand the behavior of predators, killers, and terrorists alike to pinpoint their stressors, triggers, and motivations, in order to prevent them from hurting anyone else.

The unit is carefully curated, with each of it's agents possessing a specific skillset that makes them a valuable asset to the team. With each new case comes a new trauma to face, a new horror to stare deep into and try to understand. Only time will tell if these agents can continue to bear the weight of dozens of lives on their shoulders.

Tab Two: Case File 17-1-00346. CASE FILE 17-1-00346, dubbed by the media as the Butterfly Collector Case. Throughout states in the Northwestern region of the United States, cases of missing women from ages twenty one to twenty five were garnering national media attention as the disappearances were evidently linked together due to eyewitness accounts of the abductions. How they were abducted was the main question: all seven of the women abducted, within a two year period, were all attractive brunettes who were physically active and maintained a bright happy life, often described as social butterflies. Yet, one day they were living their lives as normal, and the next they had vanished out of thin air. Some women were abducted as far as from Helena, Montana, and another from Redding, California. How does a human being simply vanish?

Nestled deep in the deciduous forests of Washington is the Skonieczny estate, seemingly occupied only by the unsub who was identified as Dominik Skonieczny, and his teenage daughter, Aleksandra. The estate is made up of acres of property, rolling green grass and trees as far as the eye can see as it borders a major forest in the sate of Washington. Within it, a mansion, absolutely massive for only two family members, with twisting hallways and curious paths leading in and out of the home. Despite its solitude, the house is like new, the gardens are well maintained, and in the backyard garden is a large, gorgeous greenhouse. Flower bushes as far as the eye can see give color to the scene, and within the greenhouse, dozens and dozens of brilliantly colored butterflies.

And within the greenhouse, Skonieczny's own curated butterfly collection.

He had an eye for beauty, he claimed, for preserving beauty within an individual so it does not become tarnished from the hardships of life. A butterfly is a fragile thing, after all. Naming his victims after different species of butterfly, Dominik was proud of his collection; however, he'd kept it private for the sake of his own reputation. And while the idea, for the most part, had been hisβ€”it was no surprise that he had his accomplices; one in particular standing out. His daughter, a young woman who'd been conditioned to work alongside him and raised accustomed to his habits. It seemed she was a child doomed from the start, left with her twisted father after her mother died in childbirth. If one compared his "butterflies" to photographs of his late wife, one would note the striking similarities in physical features. The police considered not only Aleksandra as an accomplice, but the landscapers and housekeeping as well. There were three employees who helped maintain the Skonieczny estate: a live-in nanny, a housekeeper, and a landscaper. When they realized the horrors happening within the home's walls, the nanny took it upon herself to stay with Aleksandra, to keep her under a watchful eye and protect her from her father's wrath. The other employees decided the same. They couldn't bring themselves to leave, as they had been hired since before she was born, and the guilt weighed on them tremendously.

What made the cards all fall into place were two eyewitness accounts of the abductions of the last two victims. It had taken some time to find actual witnesses, but they were both seen stuffed into a vehicle of the same color, make, and they even got partial numbers from the license plate. By the time the FBI and local authorities had arrived at the Skonieczny estate, the Gardener escaped and went into hiding. His daughter and the help were arrested and interrogated as they tried to figure out where Dominik had fled to, but their efforts were futile. Seven victims were found alive and physically healthy and cared for, but the mental scars of the ordeal would likely never fade. The first victim had been held in captivity for nine years.

The Butterfly Collector case went cold in 2017 after the victims were rescued, as the FBI were unable to find Dominic Skonieczny, no matter how hard they looked. The case is considered one of the most depraved and chilling investigations they have ever worked, but eventually, they had to move on.

Until, four years later, a gift was sent to the round table of the BAU conference room. Inside a beautifully wrapped gift box was glass frame containing a delicately pinned butterfly, with wings of brilliant pearlescent blue and black. The Papilio chikae, also known as the Luzon Peacock Swallowtail butterfly. Even more concerningly, the butterfly name of Skonieczny's first victim.

The Gardener is back, and ready to pull the Behaviral Analysis Unit into the darkest game of cat and mouse.

Tab Three: The Roles. THE LEADER. What can't they do? The Leader is the BAU's Unit Chief, handling the darkest and most depraved cases that humanity has to offer, and the mountains of red tape and paperwork that come afterwards. Level headed, collected, and strikingly intelligent, they're a chronic workaholic yet capable of handling such a taskforce. Don't mess with the individual who stares into the abyss, unflinching. | STATUS: OPEN.

THE MUSCLE. A force to be reckoned with, don't mistake the Muscle as only the brawns of the group. They are the strongest and most adept at fighting of the BAU, possibly an instructor for other FBI trainees when they're not handling cases, but they possess an equal level of intellect to the rest of their unit and they make that fact well known. And they're not just adept at hand-to-hand combat, but all types of firearms as well. | STATUS: OPEN.

THE GENIUS. The Genius is exactly that, a genius and childhood prodigy, intelligent far beyond their years and an extremely valuable asset to the team. Whether their focus be on criminal psychology, methodology of offenders, the science of the human brain, or even the linguistics of an individual, they are an informational sponge and the unit's walking talking encyclopedia. | STATUS: CLAIMED BY low fidelity low fidelity .

THE ENIGMA. There's not much known about the Enigma, and their presence on the team makes others curious. They were recommended with a long list of accomplishments, and their work in the field solving cases is extremely admirable. But, if you try to look into them, or read anything about their past from their personnel file, much of the information has been redacted or simply doesn't exist. Where did they come from? | STATUS: OPEN.

THE MEDIC. Throughout the years, the BAU learned sooner or later, they would need someone with medical expertise to keep the unit alive in the field. The Medic is that person, an individual well versed in medical expertise and criminology alike. Hunting down serial killers comes with a price; sometimes, agents in the field get seriously hurt, and so having the Medic at their side is the best chance for survival. | STATUS: OPEN.

THE HACKER. The BAU's very own mission control, the Hacker is just what the name says: an extremely talented hacker, knowledgeable in all things digital. Gathering information on the fly for the team as they're out on the field is their specific expertise, and they are the backbone of the BAU. Even if their methods aren't entirely legal, they are a vital asset for hunting criminals, and not someone to be underestimated. | STATUS: CLAIMED BY Takuwan Takuwan .

THE NEWBIE. The most recent addition to the BAU is the Newbie, a fresh face who has recently graduated out of the FBI academy and been amazingly accepted into the FBI's most elite unit. With a long list of recommendations and some suspicious family connections within the Bureau, their quick ascension has raised some eyebrows. Time will tell if they can keep up with the heavy weight of what the BAU does. | STATUS: OPEN.

Tab Four: The Rules. RULE ONE: First and foremost, please follow all RPN rules. Drama, bullying, or bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated, we always intend for our group roleplays to be safe spaces to all. This roleplay is entirely inspired by the crime drama show, Criminal Minds. Similar to the source material, this roleplay will include serious themes of heavy violence, serial killers, murder, and criminal psychology. Trigger warnings will be enforced. Please be 18+ if you'd like to join.

RULE TWO: Please know that a Discord server will be made once the cast is chosen. Personally, I find it really great to have a server for easy OOC chatting and convenient plotting. Be aware of this if you’re interested in joining! Not only that, but we'll likely be experimenting with Discord integrations for some fun interesting interactions with characters through group text chats, and perhaps even dice rolls to determine the outcomes of major decisions. Exciting stuff!

RULE THREE: Previous knowledge or familiarity with the show Criminal Minds isn't necessary! You can join without having seen the show, though I would recommend maybe taking a peek at the wiki to understand the source material, themes, and plot ideas we'll be exploring.

RULE FOUR: Please know that literacy is a must. This will be what most would consider a "literate to advanced" roleplay, where we expect good grammar, literacy, engaging writing, and 400+ word count multi-paragraph replies. I won't be meticulously counting your replies words, but I do hope to see fun detailed writing. No one liners.

RULE FIVE: The world has gone a bit crazy as of late, so Taku and I understand that not everybody can be on daily. Once the roleplay has started, please be able to post once or twice a week, but also keep in mind we'd really like folks who are happy to chat OOC and contribute to plot discussions and such!

RULE SIX: This is not first come first served! If enough interest is garnered, there will be an application process, which means we will be reading through each character and considering which ones would fit best for what we have in mind. This isn’t to be picky, but to maintain a standard of writing quality that maintains immersion for everyone.

Always been a fan such shows. Looks like a great idea for a rp too. While my rust could use some shaking off, but I’m interested if taking more apps. And a update on role availability.
