Realistic or Modern Coldwater: A Supernatural Horror Western (Interest check)

Sorry, why are we posting character sheets in the interest thread where they will be harder to find due to the comments in between?

They go here for approval and then I'll move them into a character thread once we start. I've learned the hard way not to go through all the work of setting up a bunch of extra threads if the RP does in recruitment.

Never heard of this "Deadwood" show, but I'm a fan of Clint Eastwood movies so I figure I'll try this out as well.

⥈ Name: Alexander Jefferson Gurley
⥈ Age: 45
⥈ Height: 5'10"
⥈ Description: Gurley is a calm and dignified seeming man, baring his most severe addiction to gambling. Perhaps his composure has enabled him to be relatively successful at it, but luck always runs out and Gurley never quits while he's ahead. By contrast, his drinking habits are quite temperate. He's something of an amateur chemist, knowing how to make gunpowder, soap, and dyes. He speaks in a soothing, sometimes airy Southern drawl. Despite having military experience, he can't shoot worth a damn. His reflexes are slow, and he has generally had to rely on methodical approaches to his problems.
iu

⥈ Profession: Making soap is a side gig, he mostly lives off his savings and good gambling streaks.

⥈ What brought you to Coldwater? A fresh start, primarily to escape some gambling debts.

⥈ Who came with you? Nobody.

⥈ What's your big secret?
Coldwater is the most recent in a string of towns Gurley has fled to after ending up in the hole, a sequence which has taken him from Louisiana to the Dakotas. He's stolen a few valuables on his way out of those previous townships, seed money for his next venture. Gurley also committed arson in Nebraska, but it didn't seem like anyone suspected him of that.
This is so good! Approved!

I haven't watched Deadwood or Dog Soldiers, but I've watched a few westerns and played a lot, a lot, of Red Dead Redemption 2 - will that suffice?

If so, I'd like to make a lady who's the owner and bartender of the town's saloon or bar. Would that be an option?

━━━━━━━━━━⍟ CHARACTER SHEET⍟━━━━━━━━━━
man.jpg Name Josiah Bridger

Age 38

Height 6' 0"

Description A quiet and steely figure, known for his diplomatic manner more so than for having a booming voice or powerful presence. Tall and lanky, but deceptively strong when it comes down to it.

Profession: Josiah is the elected Sheriff of Coldwater

Business: Josiah does not own a business, but he does man the Sheriff's office and town jail.

What brought you to Coldwater?: Josiah came to Coldwater looking to escape from the life of a lawman. He had intended to open a general good store and live in peace, but the need for good law in the town became quickly apparent. With the aid of a few selected deputies, Josiah was able to bring a semblance of order to the town, but like any small town in the west, new trouble blew in with every tumbleweed.

Who came with you?: Josiah came to Coldwater alone, bringing only bad memories.

What's your big secret?: When he was Twenty-three, Josiah's wife her brother were murdered in retaliation for Josiah capturing the leader of a gang of horse thieves during his time as a Texas ranger. He has told no one in town about the tragedy.

Hello. I'd like to give this a go if there's room. My idea is an old civil war vet who fought for the union. Wasn't a doctor exactly, but picked-up field surgery from his service and is trying to set himself up as the town doctor.

I’m a bit interested as well. Is there any specific role that’s needed or available to take. So far I see a preacher, law man, doctor, bar owner.

If possible I could maybe create a seamstress, hired gun, cook, or nurse. I just want to make sure to not step on any toes and fill in a position that’s needed!

Play whatever you find interesting! I would say, a small town like this would be unlikely to have a nurse, especially because we have a doctor.

This sounds pretty interesting! Quick question: What do you think of a tavernkeeper type character? I think a well-connected charismatic bartender might be an interesting addition to the crew c:

I think LadyLynx LadyLynx is planning a barkeep character. Maybe she's looking for a business partner? I'll defer to her.

The IC thread. I'm working on the first post now. Once I approve your character sheet feel free to start posting!

I was thinking that since it was a small town, she'd be the sole owner and bartender (she's also charismatic and not afriad to stand her ground). But, perhaps it would make sense to make a combination in house? With a saloon/bar on the ground floor, with a motel-esk, room rental (or workplace for girls in business, who knows?) on the second floor?

I’ve decided to make a Madam. It’ll be fun to have ladies of the night around. So I’ll have her form up shortly.

Sure! I'm willing to go with whatever suits you best, I think having a place for the working gals would be quite cool. I was thinking kind of a quite dramatic and cheeky younger man who's actually a runaway from a shitty home life, so maybe she ended up giving him a job after that? If we went that route we could chat a bit about making them close friends.
