There is nothing to fear
Ancient history
Long ago, before mankind's ancestors had ever stepped out of the primordial ooze there was a ancient empire that had existed for over a billion years, the Thu'ma. These Ancient Thu'ma were very similar to humanity but their empire had lived long enough that they found all the answers to all the questions of science in our universe. For a time it seemed as if they had reached their pinnacle, but there was more to be found and more to be done. It wouldnt do for the universe to be empty save for them. Around the same time they decided to begin crafting life they discovered the source of our very universe, without much better of a name in mind they called this "the source". A supernatural force by definition due to it existing outside of and beyond out natural universe this "source" was believed to be the place where all matter and energy in our universe came from. In their attempts to create life they made a mistake that most prideful intellectuals make, the mistake of believing nothing was outside of their control.
In their arrogance they crafted their first lifeforms the Thu'Aan who would come to be known as the Titans. These massive humanoid lifeforms has a passive connection to the Source as they were made to be the "Ultimate lifeform." Sadly for the Thu'ma, the Thu'Aan were a roaring success. These titans possessed tremendous power and were able to launch a rebellion against their creators. Despite the Thu'ma having a great empire with countless numbers and advanced technologies we could only dream of...the Thu'Aan were greater still, able to use their connection with the Source to learn at a ludicrous rate and alter the very fabric of reality, bolstering their own numbers by creating lesser versions of themselves who were still powerful enough to press the assault on the Thu'ma. Fearing their coming end the Thu'ma developed an entirely new lifeform to defeat the dreaded Thu'Aan. They found that by changing their tactics mid battle they could almost counter the Thu'Aan, but the Titans learned fast enough that this was a stop gap measure that they struggled to pull off more often than not. So they crafted a new race who could adapt much faster and much better. The Dra'Khan were born.
The Dra'khan were great winged reptiles with a similar connection to the Source to that of the Thu'Aan, however the Dra'khan could use this to alter themselves rather than alter the world around them, furthermore they were impervious to the Thu'Aan attempts to alter them directly. The Dra'khan could use this power to shapeshift, convert others,and evolve a seemingly endless list of powers and abilities to face the Thu'Aan. They were however a little late to the party. The Thu'Aan had already pushed deep into the heart of the Thu'ma empire severing communication and trade networks as they went effectively cutting the Empire off from itself. With the empire divided and being crushed under the weight of their own needs, to say nothing of the Thu'Aan and their consistant attacks, it seemed the Dra'Khan had come to late. The Thu'ma empire collapsed and the Dra'khan rose up in their place launching a far more successful assault against the titans. They hunted down each of the progenitor titans and slew them, without their greatly enhanced minds guiding the reat of the Thu'Aan it was a simple mop up job after that.
Sadly it seemed the Dra'Khan were also a bit defective. Immediatly after the war the dragons split into two factions each having a different view of their place in the cosmos. The Followers of Tiamat had decided that they were the inheritors of the universe the remnants of their creators should be purged lest they create a species to hunt the Dra'khan. Whereas the Followers of Bahamut believed they were created to protect the universe and it was their duty to see their creators restored to their former glory and elevated beyond. This fracture amongst the Dra'khan resulted in a terrible civil war that would last for a billion years and would be known throughout the universe as the Great Dragon war.
~~~
As it turned out the Thu'ma were not destroyed but were scattered. Much of their ancient history and cosmic architecture was destroyed by the back to back cosmic conflicts. Because they lasted for billions of years and were cut off from their technologies that let them alter the worlds they dwelt on to suit their needs the Thu'ma actually went down several different evolutionary paths creating countless new alien species, inculding the humans of Mars who would go on to populate the earth after their planet was the stage for a catastrophic battle between the Dra'khan factions. However after enough time passed Tiamat was bested and she and her followers banished to the Source where they would be unable to interact with the physical universe without the followers of Bahamut being instantly aware.
Recent history
The Thu'ma of Mars would eventually go on to become humanity with their history playing out as it is recorded currently. Occasionally they encountered A Dra'khan or even a Thu'Aan. But the humans were surprisingly similar to the Thu'ma of old and were resilient often finding ways to avoid their destruction though sometimes it was with the help of the Dra'khan followers of Bahamut who was influenced by the humans to change his races names to the Dragons. Humanity progressed remarkably fast going from stone age to space age in only 12,000 years, just over the lifespan of an individual dragon. However in the modern era things have begun to grow problematic. You see Humans have just discovered the Source and accidentally brought Tiamat and her followers out. Almost just as bad it captured the attention of the remaining Thu'Aan who have been rebuilding in solitude during the Dra'khan civil war and afterwards. They intended to strike back but found Bahamut to be far to clever a leader, yet now that the Dragons were distracted by the return of their other ancient enemy ths Thu'Aan begin their march across the cosmos again...and earth is caught in the middle of this battle.
The Story
Ok so this storyline takes place in the modern day earth but maaaan is it crazy. Random portals open up in random places spiting out Evil dragons, Great stone structures fall from space unleashing The Titanic and Terrible Thu'Aan and the earths military is hilariously outgunned here. Thiugh in all fairness their dealing with reality warping giants (Thu'Aan) and the literal ultimate in adaptable bio-weapons (Dra'khan). Luckily hope is not lost, The Dragons (The Members of the Dra'khan who follow Bahamut) are coming to earth with a genius plan to fight back. Bring strong dragons and infuse their Dna with the local fauna and dominant species and if things get to hectic there are countless worlds populated by the decendants of the Thu'ma, brother and sister species to humanity, who would be more than willing to launch a siege on earth to liberate thier populace.
I will only be allowing characters from the following factions
The Dragon Faction- the Members of the Dra'khan race who didnt see themselves as superior to the rest of life in the universe. They follow Bahamut, the last truly immortal Dra'khan besides Tiamat. There are 3 different species of dragons though two of those species are far more diverse than the first.
True dragons- Those who are born and raised as dragons. They have access to all of the abilities of their race including shapeshift, energy manipulation, extreme longevity, advanced regeneration, and the ability to draconify other willing species. Three of these True dragons were sent to earth, Bastion one of the three the sons of Bahamut, and two elder dragons meant to guide him in his first military command position. (2 spots available)
Drakes- When a non dragon species is given cells from a true dragon these cells mutate the being into a dragon hybrid. They gain several abilities from the dragon species while keeping all of the abilities inherent to their species. They can shapeshift between their normal species form and a large dragon form and even do partial shifts like granting themselves scales or wings and even claws. They gain access to a specific element like fire or lightining and can use this element for a breath weapon even in their non dragon form while also becoming incredibly resistant to said element. They also gain access to the Source to fuel this elemental power making it nigh limitless. Finally they gain physical power that is a middle ground between a dragon and a member of their species. So on average they are around half as physically powerful as a true dragon but many times stronger than a normal member of their species.
(8 roles available .)
Wyverns- Its not only intelligent lifeforms that can be Draconified. Typical animals can be gifted dragon cells and mutated into a wyverns which is the lowest class of dragon though is still exceptionally powerful. They become permanantly shifted into a half dragon form of whatever they are and while they will not gain access to the Source they still gain an elemental ability to be used as a breath weapon and are resistant to the element both to a lesser degree than drakes. In addition they become imbued with some kind of poison or toxin making them a dangerous foe even for more powerful enemies. These beings unfortunately never convert the dragon cells within them making them completely subservient to the True Dragon that Draconifies them. It is possible for the True dragon to pass control of this creature to another Dragon or drake.
Artifacts- with enough effort amd skill in the draconification process a true dragon can infuse their cells into non organic things like a sword or a gun. This results in that object gaining access to one single additional ability that is tied to the source and thus inexhaustible. While only the oldest and wisest of dragons can actually create these objects they are technically timeless artifacts that do not decay or degrade over time so they almost always outlive their creators and will never cease to have their power unless they are broken. Some of the artifacts in the dragons arsenal are over a billion years old having been made during their war with the Thu'Aan. However the vast majority of them came to be during the billion year dragon civil war when both sides were churning them out as fast as possible. Due to this there is a massive stockpile of them and the dragons are very generous with giving them out even granting them to non dragon allies and making them basically standard issue for drakes when they are enlisted into the dragon armies. Sadly the neutral nature of these weapons make them easy to fall into the enemies hands and surprisingly effective at killing dragons. Several Thu'Aan and even Humans have access to these weapons.
The Hunters- A faction created by humans and funded by several mysterious billionaire benefactors. They hunt down artifacts and ancient technologies and use them to slay Dragons,Dra'khan' and Thu'Aan alike, along with any other non humans they find...or humans who get in their way for that matter. While they have yet to face a true dragon in combat they have actually slain almost a dozen drakes from both of the two Draconic factions and a pair of Thu'Aan who arrived on earth earlier than their kin. They operate like a mix between a cult, a fanatical religion, an intelligence agency, and a paramilitary group. There are designated sects in every country strategically placed in cities that grant them access to the entire respective nation. Their reach is global and soon to expand into space.
This takes place in a modern earth where 2020 was alot worse. It came with evil dragons and giants plus an alien presence in the form of the dragons arrival...thats in addition to the covid, murder hornets, and political madness across the globe. So humanity isnt doing so hot right now...who knows maybe the dragons will help?
