Experiences Role-play frustration Vent thread

AngelCloud

Slowly Losing my mind
Yes I know something similar is floating around. But I also realize not everyone is gonna see one little thread. So I'm making my own thread to help more users vent out their frustrations and in doing so, help my fellow rpers learn what NOT to do in an rp.

A typical post in this thread would be as Follows.

Hi, my name is AngelCloud. What am I venting frustration for? I had a partner bitch and complain about something i didn't like about his rping and when I tried to offer a better alternative, he cursed me out and told me to rot in hell.

This is just an example. But this is typically what I see in a vent

Good luck venting you're frustration here and happy rping!

I just ended my RP relationship with someone. We were starting one on discord, I’m new to discord so I didn’t know how to do everything, he made a new thread for the RP, even though I had already made one for it, when he could’ve just told me how things worked so I could make a better server, then for the character page he started using this bot for ‘immersion’ while also refusing to tell me about it or how it works. Even though he was pretty much trying to shackle me into doing things his way, I was staying quiet at first and trying to figure things out because I didn’t want to step on any toes, but he continued to not explain anything, so I eventually just said that I wasn’t comfortable using a bot and that in order for the RP to work I needed to have some control (because it was starting to feel like I had none) he immediately claimed I was being difficult, and eventually I just blocked him.

I have ended many a relationship because of that

I'm not familiar with the paper mario series, But I do have a thread up looking for a fantasy setting if you're into that

I just love it when the “users who are viewing this thread” shows ten different people, and maybe 2 of them are actually viewing the thread

It lingers for an hour, yeah. Most sites use a measly thirty minutes, which I prefer.

I just hate it when you can feel a partner being hesitant. I was talking to someone and asked if they minded I used a specific Oc to send them an ask. “Go for it” they said, seemed happy for me to do so. Then became hesitant because I didn’t have a fact sheet about my Oc. I said I could make one while my baby was asleep as that was my only chance, but no reply.

I don't like character sheets either. Big waste of time considering you're gonna see the character in roleplay. Knowing about the OC's favorite color is stupid. Also needing a face claim for it is stupid as well. Why can't I just go "okay, my character is so and so, and they'll be so and so, etc" just basic stuff about them?

One thing I dislike about RPN is the "users viewing this page" thing. Makes me think folks are interested but they're not. Really brings my mood down. I'll rather not know if anyone is viewing it. (Talking about interest checks) Just save me the trouble : (

I view character sheets as more for the person who makes the character than for their partner. Simply because it helps keep things straight about the character so it doesn't end up with 'oh this character has a twin brother now' yet ten posts ago 'they were an only child' or something like eye color or hair color doesn't just change for no reason during the rp. I know for me I gloss over a lot of the information in the history/bio of characters and mainly just put the important bits that make the character have the type of personality and view on the world that they have. yes I have other information too but it's mostly just the general basics that I've grown use to from using character sheets in the 20 years I've been rping.

Just putting in my two cents on the character sheet.. although that's only for 1x1... groups is a different view.

But also on the note of charactr sheets, people who use the info on the character sheets like their character already knows everything on it in the rp... aka meta gaming (I think been a while since I looked off the offical name for it)/using OOC info IC.

Yeah. That's why I discourage character sheets too. Can't meta game a character if there isn't a source of info to metagame from

Well yeah. Fot that reason they're fine. But if people are gonna use them to metagame, the appeal's lost

It's when characters take action based on information that they don't know, but that the roleplayers know, for example.
What if the DM (or whatever you’d call them here) makes choices based on the characters, like say if someone’s brother was killed by a gang member, and they make one of the villains they had in mind the killer?

Who else hates that when you start an RP maybe a dozen or two people say they are interested and put in there character sheets, but when the RP actually starts, there’s only like 4-5 ppl active?
