Fandom Expedition to Castle Ravenloft

You have been hired by Duchess Morwen of Daggerford to scare away a group of mysterious villagers camped outside the town's walls. As the evening grows dark, you see a dozen men and women gathered around a crackling bonfire. The folk are in good spirits. A few of them sing and dance around the fire while others find happiness in their flasks and wine-skins. Three barrel-topped wagons are parked at odd angles. Tied to a nearby tree, grazing, are half a dozen draft horses wearing bright coats with bangles and tassels.

A man named Stanimir introduces himself and welcomes you to his camp. After informing him that you have been hired by the Duchess to get rid of them, Stanimir laughs. "Don't worry. We have no wish to make enemies of Lady Morwen. I have a story to tell you. First you listen, then we go." he says.

Stanimir fills his mouth with wine, then spits into the fire. The flames turn from orange to green. As they dance and way, a dark shape appears in the bonfire's core. "We come from an ancient land whose name is long forgotten - a land of kings. Our enemies forced us from our homes, and now we wander the lost roads." The dark shape in the fire takes the form of a man being knocked from his horse, a spear piercing his side. Stanimir continues. "One night, a wounded soldier staggered into our camp and collapsed. We nursed his terrible injury and quenched his thirst with wine. He survived. When we asked him who he was, he wouldn't say. All he wanted was to return home, but we were deep in the land of his enemies. We took him as one of our own and followed him back toward his homeland. His enemies hunted him. They said he was a prince, yet we didn't give him up, even when their assassins fell upon us like wolves."

Deep in the bonfire, you see the dark figure standing with sword drawn, fighting off a host of shadowy shapes. "This man of royal blood fought to protect us, as we protected him. We bore him safely to his home, and he thanked us. He said, 'I owe you my life. Stay as long as you wish, leave when you choose, and know that you will always be safe here.'" The figure in the dancing fire vanquishes its final fore, then disperses in a cloud of smoke and embers.

Stanimir's face becomes a somber mask. "A curse has befallen our noble prince, turning him into a tyrant. We alone have the power to leave his domain. We've traveled far and wide to find heroes such as yourselves to end our dread lord's curse and put his troubled soul to rest. Our leader, Madam Eva, knows all. Will you return to Barovia with us and speak with her?"

Under raging storm clouds, the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind’s howling increases as he turns his gaze down toward the village of Barovia. Far below, yet not beyond his keen eyesight, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd’s face forms the barest hint of a smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they came — all according to his plan. A lightning flash rips through the darkness, but Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind fills the midnight air. The master of Castle Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited.

So, I'm looking to find probably 3-4 other players for this RP. It will follow the plot of the D&D 5e module Curse of Strahd, though it won't be a carbon-copy. Still, if you're a player of D&D 5e or might be one in the future and are interested in playing through Curse of Strahd yourself, I suggest you avoid this RP.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the Ravenloft setting or the plot of this module, here's a bit of info: The vampire lord Count Strahd von Zarovich rules unquestionably over the entirety of the dark gothic land of Barovia (a place almost completely forgotten and unknown to the majority of the world), which exists in its own demi-plane of existance. Strahd often swallows up adventurers from the Material Plane (the main world of the universe) in a magical mist that transports them into Barovia, to become little more than playthings for the Vampire Lord, which is what has happened to our characters. The goal is simple: escape. Unfortunately, no one has ever achieved such a feat.

We'll be using a simple dice-rolling and stats system, nothing too cumbersome I assure you.

I will add that if there are enough interested applicants, I'll probably be a bit picky with who I invite. It won't just be first come first served.

Also, this will probably be a slower paced RP, not a lot of rapid fire posts, might be q few days in between mine, at least.

Let me know if you have any more questions about this.

I'm interested! I have played a little of the module but bot much (I can expand to what point if you so desire, but we didn't leave the starting town).
How close to the traditional classes would you like us to be?

i'm in

played d&d but no ravenloft , setting intrigues me and enjoyed the concept.

any character build specifics

You don't really need to strictly follow the DnD classes. If you want to be an Assassin Rogue that's great, but you can also be some sort of fire mage spellblade or something like that. Although it is a dark fantasy setting so nothing too crazy/silly.

@low Nothing specific, but keep in mind that your characters would be around 3rd level if this was an actual dnd campaign.
