Dragon Slayer Arcos

End All Life; Embrace Silence
What would you do if you were told your fate was already decided?
For some, they would believe that their own destiny was never part of their personality. Others however believed in such a thing to begin with. In a world in which magic is considered both holy and a taboo is where our characters shall begin. Some races believe in the symbiosis of natural and the supernatural. Others believe that anything beyond the easily explainable to be an act against the natural order.

In this world, our characters will be thrust into the politics and danger of the world. Each given something to move the world further down the path. However, how everyone uses their gifts can impact the fate of the whole world. This is where our kind come into play. Either gifted or cursed with a Fate Mark, you will be directly responsible for the course of the destiny itself. Every choice we make, and every step we take will drive the story into unforeseen directions.

Fate Marks
  • This plot will revolve around people gifted with extraordinary powers.
  • Each person will be given 1 or 2 Fate Marks, a magical symbol that represents their abilities.
  • A Fate Mark is eternal, and throughout history appears on individuals when the time calls for it.
  • Some cultures believe Fate Marks to be divine appointment in the Grand Design of the world. Others believe them to be Sin Marks, abominations of nature and regarded as curses.
  • Fate Marks can represent almost anything and any random person can be born with one. However, 4 Fate Marks are considered "Source Marks" and are unique with only 1 person being born with them at any give time. The Source Marks being: Creation, Destruction, Life, Death. Or the Four faucets of reality and all other Marks somehow stem from these 4.
  • Each Fate Mark has a role, and those that are gifted with one can be considered an integral part of the shaping of the world. However, the way that shaping takes place isn't predetermined.
  • A Fate Mark is a visible manifestation of a power. It appears on the body in the form of a tattoo. The symbology often can infer the nature of the power, but there are Fate Marks so powerful that they require several vessels to properly function. I.E. a key necessary to unlock the full potential of others or completely remove the Fate Mark itself, distributed in parts to more than 1 person and all parts of the Mark must be present for the power to work.
  • A Fate Mark is invisible except in 2 instances: The user uses their abilities, or if exposed to a raw uncut diamond. A raw diamond must be within a very small proximity to the Mark for it to appear however.
  • A Fate Mark has costs, some simple and others more costly. The cost equal to the benefits of the power given.
  • Using a Fate Mark beyond the abilities of the user can result in death, to which the Fate Mark will move on to another vessel.

So can you elaborate a little bit about the resistance part of your question? Do you mean resist the mark itself and try not to use the power and reject the possible destiny you were given? Or do you mean resist the consequence of using your Mark's power?

As to your second question, the Fate Marks are bound to the person's soul. If the marked skin were to be removed, the mark would manifest somewhere else on the body. However, to remove the marking fully from someone without killing them will be difficult and will fall under one of the Mark's that is split between multiple people (possibly NPC's) and be very dangerous to even attempt. It will also come into play how powerful the Mark is itself. Example would be a person trying to remove the Death Mark from themselves, with it be a Source Mark, the chances of anyone involved with this removal attempt would probably die horribly.

witcher0y witcher0y does that make sense?

Thanks. specifically, blanketing the consequence of removing a curse type mark

Say a mark for Null can be used in conjunction with Knife mark for this 'surgery'

How broad are the abilities of someone with a source mark? Are these playable characters?

Abyss Abyss the Source Marks will have wide abilities, and will be very powerful. They will be playable but if someone wants to take one of those spots I will need to provide a writing sample as the character and how they would use the abilities.

Example: Destruction Mark would not just be wanton destruction, but could be used to destroy relationships, mindsets, the structures of spells, a person's sense of Self, etc. However to restrict the Source Marks so they aren't so OP, the costs to use these powers will be considerably higher than other Marks.
