Hey there!
Sooo, this is the out-of-character thread for the RWBY roleplay. As I already mentioned in the recruitment thread, there isn't yet any plot for this RP, therefore everybody can throw in their two cents! And I should mention that this holds true in general. I really don't want to be the one forcing everything upon the rest and making all decisions; please feel free at any time to share your thoughts :)

So, I was thinking about the different possibilities that we have in terms of our little RP world. To use a sort of top-down approach:
-First we should probably decide at which huntsmen academy to play. On one side, picking any academy BUT Beacon would give us quite a bit of freedom and we could make up almost anything. On the other side, playing in Beacon would already give us some better picture of the place that our characters are at. I personally would go for the latter option, i.e. choose Beacon :)
-On the next lower level, we should decide how much to keep of the characters and plot from RWBY. This means
  1. do we keep the staff (Ozpin, Glynda, Oobleck etc.) or use new characters?
  2. do we keep the students (Ruby, Blake, Sun, Coco, Pyrrha😭 etc)?
  3. do we keep the plot? If yes, how much of it? E.g., do we keep Salem, Cinder, Roman etc. as the antagonists and the Fall of Beacon as the central plot turner? Do we keep the Vytal Festival as it went in the series or change it? (If we keep it as in the series, obviously our characters will not be able to participate...)
Regarding 1, I'd prefer to keep the staff so that we don't have to come up with additional chars. Regarding 2 and 3, no idea 😅 I think we could either keep them and if necessary, make some plot changes (e.g. if everybody wants to participate in the Festival, we could just make it so that they loose at some initial round or so) and also stick to the overall series plot, including the Fall of Beacon (and then just make something up regarding where our own chars go after Beacon has fallen). Or of course we could just change the setting of our RP to some "alternative version", keeping the background chars etc., but remove the central characters and possibly also make up a completely new plot/antagonist and so on. The first option would of course be easier, I guess.

What does everybody think?

with so many interested, we can keep the originals and make room for extras. Im fine keeping with the same story structure. If we want to go way off script it should be past by the group, but im not for a word for word RWBY script

ps if we want im also for side stories. things that might be happening in other places of the world while the main plot of RWBY is taking place

I personally really like the side-stories angle, honestly, almost like a "Expanded Universe" like Star Wars novels used to have. I.e. all the stuff in the base work is happening, but we either see a different side of it, or we're in a different area, or even something as cool as something that is touched off in one is the thing that causes an event in the other. One of the most memorable roleplays I've ever been in was something effectively based off a webcomic; so while we could watch in the main comic the main characters do their thing, our characters would be contributing to the story in a completely different way that was very easily seen as related. And yeah, as was stated above, there's enough room in the lore to have the canon professors/characters exist and just have more that unique to the RP.

As for which Academy, I admit I like sticking with Beacon because it's the most fleshed out (and has the most initial plot relevance). alsobecausethecharacterihavereadykindareliesonnotgettingacceptedatHavencough

It is settled then, we will play in Haven!

Kidding 😜 Yes, I also agree as I said; Beacon is rather practical. And certainly we can do side-stories; we do not at all have to only write our chars going to class, eating, sleeping, then repeat!

So everybody is fine with Beacon, keeping the series characters and playing our OCs into the main plot from the series + side-stories? (Possibly with little changes, i.e. Festival etc.)

I suddenly now realized why Monty said that part about Ozpin. Also, btw, most of the main/ secondary characters are based on a legend, folklore, or a fairy tale.

I did follow that rule, and it is not exactly difficult to do so as it only states that characters should be based around some color. There are even name generators if someone struggles with finding a name ^^ It might be more difficult to produce team names, but I am sure we will manage!

Also regarding characters: I really don't want to strongly limit anybody, everyone should really be creative. I still want to state a couple of points:
-I do not have any intention of using any unnecessarily complicated stat system like it is found on basically all RWBY-specific roleplay forums, where every char has to set points to attributes and aura and watch their aura levels incredibly closely. I want to roleplay and have fun, not write a math test, and surely so do you.
-From my side, there is also no necessity to put strengths and weaknesses and positive and negative personality points into your descriptions (after all, in real life, humans are not created either with an attached manual stating their pluses and minuses...)
-That being said, you can add explicit strengths and weaknesses, and even if you don't do, I will trust that while playing, nobody controls their character in some godlike manner; having a group of Mary/Gary Sues bunched up is not exactly fun either...
-In terms of semblances: Feel quite free to choose what you want and be creative. The first "exception" is glyphs, as these run heredetarily in the Schnee family and you would have to come up with a really good explanation how Weiss suddenly has another relative who is a huntsman/huntress in training
-the second "exception" are semblances that make everybody else lose their fun while playing. E.g. while watching the series, I came to really hate Emerald's mental illusions. Basically every time she used them, I felt the urge to give her a real good beating for being such a disgusting person. Therefore, if you decide to give your character a semblance that steals/blocks other char's semblances, creates illusions, stops time for everybody else or takes control of other being, I really expect you to do so in a fair way :)

Of course, this is not a ban of such semblances. If someone else would like to ban these semblances, let's discuss it here, otherwise I just hope that everyone plays their character so that nobody else is forced into a playstyle they don't want :) Feel free to add your own thoughts!

Heterological Heterological : You mean because of Ozpin's backstory or what? I am not sure myself actually. I thought it was just because of the wizard of Oz.

Good night then everyone ^^

I guess one quick question is do you mind if I actually _do_ just retool/reuse my character from the other RWBY roleplay? I know sometimes that's a sore point ><.

I can't really say, Ozilla Ozilla , because there are some people here who don't know the backstory of Ozpin since they haven't gotten to that season. But back when Oz was born, the names weren't like the ones in present-day RWBY, if you get what I mean.

As long as I can play as my character Isern Vargr, a character I've tried to play many a times, I'm happy. (First name can change to fit team name if necessary)

it looks like Ozila's not online. we probably need the obvious, usual things, name, personality, appearance, backstory, etc. Semblance and weapons are also going to be the two other things.

Hmm, the search thread just said to move on to the OOC if anyone was interested in joining, sooooo.... hello!

Morning everyone!

Yes, I was offline as was stated. I assume there are time differences between our different places :)

PixelSymphony PixelSymphony : Not sure why anybody would have a problem with you reusing your char o.0 Go for it! Unless of course you yourself think that it is going to be weird for you to "restart" your char
Heterological Heterological : Ah you mean Ozpin's past. Well that is true, but then again, he did change his name (at least the ending of it). Also, you can have multiple characters, if you want! I will only play one; not sure if I could find enough time/motivation to play several ones :'D
Soviet Panda Soviet Panda : I don't see why you could not play that char ^^ Does their name go according to the color rule? o:
Yakov011001 Yakov011001 : I will create the char thread soon, there you can post your sheets. The requirements were already stated by Heterological Heterological . Of course, everybody can decide how much of your character's personality and past to share in the sheet; you can also leave some things to be found out inplay :) Just a general overview is fine. Regarding aura amounts, you could mention if your character for some reaso has particularly litte or much aura (in the latter case, again, please don't make it overpowered :'D), otherwise the color should be enough. And as also already stated, if something is not right, we can all modify our chars :)
Puppernickel Puppernickel : Welcome!

(Edit: Feel free to create humans and faunus and also regarding their sexuality, if you want! I did not add the LGBTQ-friendly tag because this is first and foremost an action/fantasy whatever RP, not romance, but that is not to stop you!)

One thing that I remembered late yesterday: In terms of weapons, you can also feel veeery creative, but please make it somewhat RWBY-like 😅 Some time ago, I stumbled across an OC that had a tank as weapon. While the idea was interesting (and also polished; his semblance worked well together with the tank iirc), it felt just somewhat weird to imagine a tank (or a submarine or aircraft for that matter) next to swords, rapiers and pointed umbrellas...
