Grey Grey Do these look good? "****" is just a placeholder since I haven't given her a name yet.

FAMILIARITY: Sky Pirates - Born the daughter of an infamous sky pirate captain, **** is familiar with the norms and taboos of sky pirate culture and has personally met some of the pirate lords. When interacting with other sky pirates she gains +1 die to rolls of:
+ Mingling
+ Persuasion
+ Empathy

KNOWLEDGE: Pirate Legends - **** grew up hearing tales of riches and glory had by the greatest pirates and yet to be had by those brave enough to claim them, and she has devoted considerable time studying and looking for clues so that she might one day claim such riches and glory for herself. When attempting to recall information on, learn new information about, or track down myths and legends of pirate lore **** gains +1 die to rolls of:
+ Lore
+ Investigation
+ Navigation

TRAINING (physical): Pirate Princess - It is of course expected that the daughter of a pirate captain be strong enough on their own to instill fear and command respect, and to have a nose for mutinous crew members in preparation to be captain herself one day. When acting in the role of a pirate, **** gains +1 die to rolls of:
+ Defense
+ Awareness
+ Ranged

All in all good. I might suggest her training be Dirty Fighter, Boarding Action, or Gunslinger, but don't feel pushed.

I hope we get a martial artist in this bunch.

She's gonna be almost exclusively a martial artist when it comes to fighting, but I'm trying not to meta game too much. I'm going for a younger character (took the 40XP option for skills) that is still developing and full of potential (rather than being great at her specialty from the start).

Ideally her training as a pirate princess would actually give her some social (Empathy) or mental (Administration) bonuses but I know you want training to be physical. Since it should be physical only, though, I chose Ranged because it makes sense that she would have at least learned to fire the cannons. I might change it to be even less meta-y and make it add to Ranged, Piloting, and Awareness...or maybe you'd allow a single social or mental bonus and I'd add one of those in. I don't know. I'm still just trying to figure out this character. I have a rough idea with some ideas for character progression (as far as character development is concerned), but all the ideas I have for her are still kind-of all over the place. Hehe, maybe it's fate that I picked a Windborne character.

BTW, does one of the documents have the bonuses for Dirty Fighting, Boarding Action, or Gunslinger?

All good thinking.
If you choose to be a martial artist, you actually take a Training for that martial art in order to use it, like

Training: Feather On The Breeze Style
+1 die on combat rolls using techniques from this martial art. Access to the techniques of this art.

(that might actually be too strong and I'm tempted to just make it a requirement for using a Style)

Dirty Fighting, Boarding Action, or Gunslinger are just alternate names for the Training you've picked that narrow the focus a little more

Oh, I totally didn't even realize that was labeled as Training. She definitely would have learned her wind style from her father as a kid.

Another question: You mentioned being able to buy extra Trainings/Familiarities/Knowledges with starting XP. Does that mean we can spend a portion of our Skill or Attribute XP on them, or is there some other free XP we have at character creation I'm unaware of?

Remember you need to raise the Linked Skills for the martial art to access ALL the techniques.

And yes, I was thinking of giving out a little general XP once I see backstories or if anyone feels their character doesn't have some stas they need to make sense.

What is the difference between skills and training? If say, I make my character has 6 points in spear-wielding, wrestling and horse-handling from his life as a squire of a hedge knight, does it mean I must give him trainings in spearplay, wrestle and horse-handling, separatedly? Or should I give the training point to the ability he's best at? Or, do I just wrap it into one packet as squire training?

Skills represent everything you've learned and are usually fairly general. They affect the Difficulty of rolls and are rated 1-6
Advantages like Training represent your formal study and training within those Skills, and are intended to showcase your backstory with some minor bonuses. They add +1 die to rolls using those Skills in the appropriate circumstances.

So in that case, you might have something like:
Training - Squire
+1 die to rolls using the following skills as trained by the knight to whom you squired.
Melee - Spears
Unarmed - Wrestling
Ride

And maybe you've spent some XP adding Skills to that to get the bonus for them, too, like Defense - Spears.

..is Ride in the Physical Skills list? I need to put that back if not.

I'm still here.

Yes, shirked my responsibilities... was ambitious beyond my capabilities.

You mentioned your char being a daughter of an infamous pirate. Well, my char was a crew member for an infamous pirate. So maybe her pirate familiarity she might know of him, or maybe he worked for her father.

Could be an avenue of familiarity between them that we could work out, if you are interested.

D. Rex D. Rex That sounds great. I always love coming up with pre-established relationships. Here's some bullet points I'm building my character around that might be helpful:

- Born daughter of a powerful and infamous Windborne sky pirate (uses wind and fire martial arts, considering having his pirate name be Smokebeard because his beard and hair are literally smoke :coolshades:)
- Grew up sort of raised by the whole crew of the ship
- Not the best father (cared more about adventuring than her and got bored with her desires for attention)
- Strove to prove herself to win her father's affection
- Had a falling out with her father (not sure how severe I want it to be but right now I'm thinking she actually got banished and only managed to not walk the plank because she was his daughter, haven't decided the specifics of the falling out yet)
- Left to look for a crew she could join up with and make a name for herself (and definitely not in naive hopes of earning her father's affection finally)

Some of these points are negotiable. So what did you have in mind?

Hope folks are still with me.
No worries, I'm here. Had a damn busy week-end, so no progress was made - plan is to get stuff done tonight, I'll see how well that works out.

Sweet, now I can put some seasonings into the fingers.

What kind of prosthetic did you have in mind? Depending on who makes it, whether Engineer, Magus, or Scion, it could have a lot of different looks and functions.

Just a short question: What does it cost to get an attribute up to fifth level? Treefolk can reach intellect 5, apparently, but does not get a bonus by nature - in the document, I can only find the cost to go from 3 to 4 (9xp), not the cost to go from 4 to 5. Logic suggests that it should be 12xp, just wanted to make sure that's correct.

Something simple-looking, like Elric's automail. i just want an arm of steel that can also be used to store stuffs like salt, balm, sugar and maybe some vials.

Cool. Doesn't even need any real special rules, then - it just won't heal, will take more damage without breaking, and is going to hurt if you hit someone with it.

Uuuugghh...Our food dispensor just exploded, flooding our kitchen and getting food bits everywhere. I never want to look at another egg noodle again. The smell was terrible.
