It's the Golden Age of Piracy, and you are one of the many individuals who has taken to the sea to discover their fate and adventure around the world. Whether you're working as a privateer, a buccaneer, or a French naval soldier, you spend your days in the south Mediterranean Sea, sailing the unpredictable waters in search of fame, fortune, and glory.
WHO are the significant groups?
The featured groups in this Role Play are: A band of pirates from along the Barbary Coast known as the Barbary Corsairs. A Privateer ship from England. A French naval ship.
WHAT are they doing?
The Barbary Corsairs and English Privateers have spent the last ten years plundering away across the Mediterranean sea, preying mainly on merchant ships in order to obtain booty and capture merchant crews to sell into the slave trade. However, a hoard of merchant ships has pleaded with European countries to assist the in driving out the pirate threats, and have recently enlisted the help of France. French naval ships patrol the Mediterranean, chasing away or destroying any pirate ships they come across.
WHEN does this take place?
This role play takes place in 1720 during the Golden Age of Piracy (1700-1730).
WHERE is this happening?
All of the ships sail most frequently in the Southern Mediterranean. The corsairs stay in small villages along the Barbary coast (the part of Northern Africa that meets the Mediterranean Sea) when they aren't sailing. The French also raid and destroy these villages in order to take out the corsairs. Privateers only sail back to England when in SERIOUS need of supplies, and generally get supplies from plundering other ships.
WHY is this happening?
When queen Elizabeth began to recruit her best naval officers as privateers they would go out and plunder merchant ships from other countries under the name of their queen in order to claim resources and goods for their country. They were given some goods, but the majority went to the Queen and country. When the privateers began to see how much money was in piracy they began to break rank and go rouge, becoming sea robbers.
HOW are they doing this?
The corsairs board ships and battle opposing crews that put up a fight in order to raid their ships. The French plan of attack is to track down and destroy pirate ships, make raids upon and burn down the villages along the Barbary Coast, and killing any corsairs or buccaneers they come across.
In the tabs above you will find three different ships. You will choose between a Rouge Corsair vessel, a seemingly-loyal English Privateer ship, or a French Navy ship.
Once you decide upon the ship you would like to be a member of you will fill in the corresponding application form. You will only be permitted to have one character (priority applicants* are exceptions to this rule), and you cannot change your choice once it's been made.
