Hey Everyone,

There are two quick updates that the Staff wishes to notify the site about. The first is about the new organization scheme inside the Roleplay Section, the second is about Forum Roleplay cleanup.

Organization of Roleplay Section

After our last site update, we got a lot of feedback from users and had a long discussion as administrators. Taking in what comments we received, we have made some changes to the front-end of the site.

First and foremost, "Thread Roleplays" are having their sections renamed back to just "Roleplays". This is because Thread Roleplays are typically the default playing style for many users on the site and do not need clarification (as such clarifying words were only confusing users). So on the site we have Roleplays and Forum Roleplays.

Next, we have moved all Roleplay genres to the front list so they are not hidden away underneath a main category anymore.

We also put 1x1, Public Roleplays, Forum Roleplays and the recruitment forums all underneath one category. This is so that they could all be visited from the "Roleplays" tab at the top (basically making a quick link to our Roleplay Index). Each of these sections now is separated from one another with sub-category banners that were designed into the style.

Lastly, we have moved Roleplays up on the Forum List so that they are above the Discussion forums. We felt that this would better help people navigate the site and put the most important content first for new users.

Some minor changes may still occur with this, as we are still tweaking some design characteristics. Nevertheless we hope to keep all content on the index so that it can be easily be found by users.

Forum Roleplay Cleanup

Another update to annouce is still in the process of happening and that is Forum Roleplay Cleanup. There have been many games posted in Forum Roleplay in the past month. Many of them are active and successful however many others are being made and left empty.

Empty Forum Roleplays - The Staff would like to remind everyone that if they are going to make a Forum Roleplay they must already have content to fill in those forums and that Roleplay Creators should only be making sub-forums for specific subjects and for content they already have or can reasonably assure will be filled promptly. We like to remind everyone that you can always add more sub-forums later on and that posting empty RP forums still take up site resources.

Forum Roleplays that have been left empty will be cleared out in the next few days. If such issues keep occurring, the respective users will be warned by the Administration.

Private & Collection Forum Roleplays - Empty roleplays are not the only things being cleaned up. Private roleplays (meaning roleplays that could be labeled as 1x1) will also be asked to move back to their appropriate section. Likewise, collection roleplays (roleplays that are just a collection of 1x1 roleplays or different roleplays by one user) will also be asked to be split up and moved to their respective sections.

If you are confused what all this means, do not worry. If you are a Forum Roleplay Creator we will be coming to you about these topics. So if you are not contacted and your game is not empty or inactive then you having nothing to worry about.

Thanks,

RpN Staff

Query: How does one who has a collection based forum RP (which is being flagged for removal as of this update) to move currently active 1x1 RPs to their proper place? Do we poke someone at RP Support?

Yes, you can use roleplay support and begin preparing for transfer.

1x1 have access to a ic thread, ooc thread, and characters thread. So all threads in the forum game should be merged into three threads for a rolepaly mod to merge into a fresh 1x1 for you.

Thanks you guys so much!!! ^.^

[QUOTE="Ashley Stark]I( can't v\coment on anything but this why is that?

I don't understand your issue.

You should be able to post all over the site.

Just as a specification when we are referring to Collection/Private RPs - we mainly mean forum games that are just used as a place to store one author's private roleplays that are unrelated to one another or one group's unrelated roleplays instead of having them posted in their appropriate sections. This is because it takes those games outside of the regular 1x1 private list and their designated section. As well that the Forum RP system was not meant to support games like that at this time. So while we might like to allow one person to keep their Forum RP that holds all of their private/1x1 games, we are uncertain to what degree we can support that for every user on the site (it also would make 1x1 RP section obsolete). So out of fairness this change is occurring.

While this might change in the future, right now we believe as a Staff these are the measures that must be taken.

However - Roleplays that do have a similar group of characters, setting or some other condition connecting them are fine to keep inside Forum RP. You have a lot of freedom to try new things within that section of the site and any changes to Site policy will be discussed one on one with the roleplay creators in question.

I have to say I find this layout confusing especially the front page.

Can't we just have something extremely simple and idiot proof. Something where everything is presented on the one page and people aren't left searching for things. All this would go on the front index page. The top headers up there ^ would be removed and changed to match the following sections.

Section 1: Contains 4 subforums:

  • 1on1 recruitment
  • 1on1 roleplays (all 1on1s are put in here, users can 'tag' with their genre.)
  • 1on1 ooc
  • 1on1 character

Section 2: Contains 4 subforums:

  • Thread roleplay recruitment
  • Thread roleplays (all Thread RPs are put in here, users can 'tag' with their genre.)
  • Thread ooc
  • Thread character

Section 3: Contains 2 subforums:

  • Forum roleplay recruitment
  • Forum roleplays (all Forum RPs are put in here, users can 'tag' with their genre.)

Section 4: Contains 2 subforums:

  • Dice roleplay recruitment
  • Dice roleplays (All dice roleplays go in here regardless if they're thread or forum based. Users can 'tag' with the system and genre.)

Roleplay tools:

Quick links to create a new forum in one of the four sections above.

I have no idea how much work that would entail, but just throwing my thoughts out there regardless :P

Funny enough some of your ideas were considered. Specifically things like Thread roleplay Tags and such were in our designs before we even did our first reworking of the layout. The issue is that the addons for those tagging functions are not working within Xenforo at the moment and are not kept up to date by the designer. So we would have to commission those to be redeveloped (which requires funds and to find the right programmer). Forum Roleplays only have tagging because that is our custom built and commissioned addon for those specific forums.

A lot of the current organization is a compromise between different people wanting different things. The organization is also supposed to nudge certain material that is often posted in the wrong section (such as 1x1 roleplays or recruitment threads) to be posted in the appropriate section first (as they see those options first). Granted there will probably be improvements and we will try to consider some of your ideas but there is a lot of things that go in to determine the forum index layout.

As well things are kept in the same category so that the "Roleplay" tab at the top goes to everything, which was done by the request of users to us.

Though we will hopefully try to make things less confusing for you in the future. Thanks for your suggestions.

Edit - Likewise the character and OOC forums in theory are not supposed to be on the main index. However they are currently because of people needing to merge threads together still.

So if we had an rp there before that was inactive would it have been deleted? Because I went back trying to find one I've had before(so I could get the opening post from it) and it was gone. Or is it just located somewhere else?
Ignore that. I found it using google :)

Use the search bar, it should come up.

Like wise you can use the Roleplay Support forum under Questions & Information and a member of the staff will help you find it.
