History
In late 1916, the debate over whether or not the United States of America should join the war in Europe was ongoing in the congress and in the public. Many who supported American neutrality, had rallied behind Nathan Holn, an American-German congressman, ex-governor of Virginia and the man who had lost to Woodrow Wilson in the 1916 Presidential Elections by a mere ten votes. Ever since the war had began in Europe in 1914, Holn had firmly believed that America shouldn't get involved- For the protection of American citizen; civilians and soldiers. While many saw and supported Holn as a 'defender of the people', many loyal to President Wilson thought of Nathan Holn and his followers (who were often called 'Holnists') as a "rebellious bunch of nationalists" that wanted to isolate America from the rest of the world. Early in 1917, Nathan Holn was approached by representatives from both Germany and Mexico. They knew of Holn's strong wish for America to stay neutral in the war, but offered him a great reward if he was to incite a rebellion in coordination with a joint-attack of German and Mexican forces against the United States. Though the contents of their conversation were never recorded nor heard by anyone but them, it would be right to assume that at first Holn had turned down their offer- But when they had showed him a map (which was found later in his home), he had clearly been lured into an alliance.
And so, when the time came in April 1917 for the United States of America to join the war in Europe- Holn met with a group of his most trusted and loyal followers (his "top lieutenants", so to speak) which included David Williams, Thomas Bethlehem, Sean O'Neill and Hermann Wilkes, and told them about how he intended to seize power from Wilson via rebellion that he had been preparing for the past few months, though he left out the part about an alliance with the Germans and Mexicans. A month later on the 15th of May, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Mississippi all joined Nathan Holn in receding from the Union and declaring independence. The United States of course declared war on Holn's rebellion- But with equipment gained from Germany and through other means, the "Holnist Rebellion" put up a good fight. However, when the self-proclaimed President Holn's second-in-command, David Williams discovered the plans about giving parts of the United States to foreigners, the rebellion nearly fell apart as Williams revealed Holn's plans to the other Holnists, who became infuriated. They had all thought Holn's rebellion was about securing American neutrality and safety from the war in Europe and not about creating a fascist puppet state of the Germans. Nathan Holn wasn't even given a chance to explain himself, as everyone wanted to lynch him- And as brutal and barbaric as it may sound, that is exactly what happened. Holn was hanged by his most loyal supporters as a traitor to not only the rebellion, but to America.
After the death of Holn in early June, the Holnists were left in disarray and there was already speak of surrendering and ending the rebellion. However, David Williams stood up to the plate and assumed presidency of the "Southern Union", (as it was called until 1918) rallying the old Holnists to see the rebellion to the end, with their goal being the formation of an independent state. With Holn dead and Williams having no intentions of giving American soil to foreigners, Germany and Mexico quickly receded their support of the rebellion. The "Second American Civil War" lasted (for the Confederacy at least) a little over a year. With states all across the nation, receding from the Union- The United States was left weakened, especially with a lot of their forces fighting in Europe. Virginia was taken by the United States fairly quickly, and the main part of the war, was fought over the "Tennessee Battle-Line", which was the border reaching from Tennessee to the coast in North Carolina. Several battles were waged over this imaginary line, both sides throwing powerful attack against each other. In March 1918, Texas and Oklahoma joined together and receded from the U.S., after which they were quickly threatened by a militarist force of receded states in the West. The "Grand Texan Republic" found itself very vulnerable and pleaded for Confederate aid, which it got later in March 1918 as it joined the union led by Williams, which was soon after named 'The Confederate Union'. In April 1918, the United States made one final push against the Confederacy, and in the bloodiest and longest battle of the war, the United States occupied North Carolina and parts of Tennessee - Forcing the Confederacy to retreat. Fortunately, with both sides being exhausted economically and militarily, an armistice was signed and peace declared.
What followed, was the creation of the official constitution of the Confederate Union of America. It was decided by vote, that the new Confederacy would maintain a democratic way of life and that Presidential elections would be held every four years and Parliamentary elections, every six years. David Williams became the first elected, President of the Confederacy, though Nathan Holn -despite his treacherous plans- Is considered to be the first President overall. The next two years consisted of the Confederate Union rebuilding what was lost in the 'Holnist Rebellion, as well as building and establishing new infrastructure. Laws were created and reformed, and a provincial system established.

The Confederate Union of America, still claims the states of Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia as it's own and recognizes their occupation as a hostile one. There is an ongoing dispute over these territories. Richmond in Virginia is considered the Capital of the Confederacy- But until it is liberated by the Confederacy, Tallahassee serves as the De Facto Capital of the nation.

Many people felt betrayed at what trick was pulled Holn, and felt that this whole secessionist movement was wrong to do in the first place. During the Second American Civil War, many people of the South felt as a need to reunite with the North. But this sense of guilt has resided in many Americans, and its somewhat the reason as to why Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia haven't revolted against the North.
