Futuristic The Adventures of the Inquisitor

Alyssa listened to Jame's speech, and looked over to Blink. She smiled and stretched after he addressed her as the pilot, and made her way towards the piloting bay. In the few seconds no one was around, she yelled in satisfaction, a bright smile on her face. All she wanted to do was explore, and they were going to do it soon enough!

She began setting the ship's controls to the special way she liked them, that meant she was going to drive very fast. Ally looked around at the buttons, there were many, but she knew most of them were rarely used, and that the buttons that resembled a holoboard, with a switch on the top right, was the most useful. It resembled a computer's holoboard, and it was, if she flipped the switch to change it from piloting control to keyboard, of course. Ally felt like it was most important not to forget that switch. "Blink, I should teach you how to pilot..."

Most ships, including this one, were set to pilot using either a joystick, a WASD or Arrow Key control, or a body detecting sensor. Ally preferred the WASD control, as she was used to playing Video Games, however the joystick was also a fun thing to use. She found the body sensor absolutely tiring, even if it meant just moving her hands.

Ally spun in her chair as she found herself ready, her bag next to her, and she was wearing her usual blue jacket, the sleeves going to the middle of her palm and cushioning them.

"Ready, Captain!"

While Zephyrus, Laiya, and Aya went aboard and headed off to who-knows-where (probably their respective work places, he figured), James watched Alyssa make her way to the bridge where he was waiting for her. When she arrived, the small girl seemed almost excited, and quickly began to set her preferences to the ship's control panel. James had flown a few starships in his time, but most had been small fighters, and this interface in particular was foreign to him.

He stared at the girl as she altered certain settings, almost entranced by how smoothly her hands flew across the keyboard. "Blink, I should teach you how to pilot..." he thought he heard her say, and it was then he noticed the feathered alien had followed them here, rather than accompanying his master (though at this point, James was wondering if Blink was the master and Zephyrus was the pet...). Finally, Alyssa spun around in her chair, satisfied. "Ready, Captain!"

James smirked at her. "Good. We'll get going once those two aliens get on board," he stated simply, referring to the Coyum, who (as far as he knew) hadn't gotten on board yet. He nodded at Alyssa before taking his leave, hoping to find someone else and see how they liked the ship. It wasn't a particularly big cruiser, but it was a reasonable size for the expedition he was planning.

The boy released the breath he'd been holding slowly, trying to make it as quiet as possible. He peered down through the vent, hoping to catch sight of someone. Anyone. He had heard voices not too long ago, and the thought had crossed his mind to come out of his hiding place to greet them. But that was risky, not to mention stupid. He would wait until they were out in space before he revealed himself. That way, they couldn't kick him out until they reached their next stop. And that would (hopefully) give him time to take the ship back.

The boy sniffed quietly, before squinting through the cracks before him. Silence was the only thing that greeted him, and he sighed, a bit annoyed. Seeing no further use for this place, he began to army crawl his way forward, over the vent he had just been spying through. The soft fabric of his hoodie kept the loud clang of his elbows against the metal to a minimum, and he was grateful. His jeans made a soft shhffhhss noise as they dragged along behind him, and his shoes he remembered to keep off any surface at all. Just for precaution.

The boy squeezed the handle of his gun a bit, and was ever-so-conscious of the knife tucked in his belt just below his back. He shuffled through the vents quickly; in case someone did discover him, they would have trouble pinpointing exactly where he was in a few seconds. He made his way to where he had heard voices again, and this time he heard them approaching this room (the bridge, he knew instinctively). He stared down through his peephole, anxiously waiting for someone to enter.

He knew it was risky to spy on these people, but he wanted to find out what kind of people they were before he let them use his family's ship. ...Of course, he wasn't going to let them keep it. No way. That jerk service guy hadn't even asked before he just sold it to the first person who wanted it. Then he'd been dumped at the nearest station and left to fend for himself. It wasn't that big of a deal, though. He'd finally gotten back to the Inquisitor-- his ship, and no one else's.

He'd hidden his bag in one of the secret compartments only he knew about, containing his clothes, other various weapons and gear, a book or two-- What? He liked to read! --and his holotab (a device similar to a laptop, phone, and iPad combined). The boy knew these people wouldn't be able to find it. After all, it was their first time on the ship (aside from the 'captain', but it was only his second), and there was no way they were that perceptive.

The boy squinted and shook his head, before rubbing his eyes with his thumb and forefinger. This was followed by a pinch to the bridge of his nose, another sniff, and a sigh. Boy, was he tired. He hadn't slept for who-knows-how-long, and needless to say, it was beginning to take its toll on the kid. He blinked a few times, then adjusted himself into a more comfortable position so he could see the people down below.

The Rassa didn't quite understand what the captain was saying but he gathered that it was time to go. Finally! Rassa didn't show it much but this was kind of exiting for him!

<Yahlie!> Rassa called to his wife <We're leaving now!>. He turned to Bill. "Eyaw syi, Bill" he said, holding out his hand. "Good friend. Rassa miss. Maybe meet again?"

Bill took his hand with a smile, "I hope so, Rassa. But until then, <Taelis' blessing be with you two>."

Rassa smiled and pulled Bill into a sort of half hug. <And to you, my friend. Good-bye>.

...

"It is cute, isn't it?" Said the human.

"Yes!" Yahlie nodded vigorously. "Is pet, yes? Good! All in same house. One have pet, ALL have pet! We share!" Yahlie continued to babble. "Yahlie say husband, say 'Rassa! Pet cute! We have?' But Rassa say 'Noooo. Pet smelly. Make trouble.'" Yahlie crossed her arms grumpily. "That why we no have children."

Suddenly she heard Rassa calling, <Yahlie! We're leaving now!>

"Oh! We going." She said. Yahlie looked back at her new friend, "we talk later. Okay? Okay. Bye-bye!" And Yahlie ran off to say good bye to Bill.

...

After Rassa had said his goodbyes and made his way into the ship, Yahlie went up to Bill. "Bill suuure no come??" She pushed.

Bill shook his head. "I'm sorry Yahlie, but I have responsibilities and a family to look after. You know that."

Yahlie wave your hand in a pish-posh manner. "Ohhh, Bill leave responsibility. No good." She grinned. "Yahlie talk to Captain. Take ship to Bills house. Whole family go!"

Bill had a mental image of Yahlie hijacking the ship to kidnap his family on short notice. And on a school day none the less. "Uhhhh..."

Yahlie gave him a wry smile, "Yahlie joking."

"Oh, good." Bill said with relief, "it's hard to tell with you."

Yahlie smiled somewhat proudly "mm-hm. Yahlie know... Stiiiill..."

<YAHLIE! COME ON!> Rassa yelled from the top of the loading plank.

<Alright! I'm coming!> Yahlie turned to Bill and gave him a big ol' hug and a kiss on the cheek (and by "kiss on the cheek" I mean "full blown dog lick". Bill, not wanting to offend her, didn't say anything but resolved to get the hot water and disinfectant later.) "nue Taeli yeOhshul, Bill." She said sincerely. "Yahlie miss. OOH! Yahlie forget!-" she released Bill and pulled out her phone. "Yahlie take last picture!" (Rassa could see where this was going and started to walk over to them, rolling his eyes heavily.)

"Uh, don't you need to-?" Bill began

"Oh, Yahlie only be moment." She held up her phone. "CHEESE!" Click "No-no-no, Bill. Smile! Ok... Aaaaand... CHEESE" Click "Good! Ok, now funny face- aWOOF!!!" Rassa had walked up, thrown her over his shoulder, and was walking back.

"Eyaw syi, Bill!" She waved as her impatient captor carried her into the ship. "Bye-Bye!"

Bill waved. "Eyaw syi, Yahlie! Good luck you two!"

Yeah. He was going to miss them.

[so, where is this new character in relation to everyone else? I really think he's underestimated the extent of Laiya's preparations. She knows everything about that ship that could reasonably (and sometimes unreasonably) be found out. Really, there's something wrong with that girl...]

Rassa walked down the hall, his wife still over his shoulder. <Rassa!> Yahlie scolded. <Was that really necessary?>

<Yes.>

<But I was In the middle of a funny image!> she whined. <You can't leave without a funny image!>

<I know you took one as we walked away.> Rassa smirked. <That will be the funny image when you explain the back story. "This is a picture of Bill. This is another picture of Bill. This is a picture of Bill from a distance as my husband picks me up and-">

Rassa suddenly stopped, his ears sticking straight up, and looked at at the air vent.

<Rassa?? What is it.> said Yahlie.

He studied the vent hard for a moment. <... I thought I heard something moving in there.> he shrugged. <Probably just one of those "rat" animals.> A rather BIG rat.

<Oh, okay.> Said Yahlie. <Now, care to put me down?>

Rassa thought about it. <Mmmm... No. Not really.> He reached up and tickled her in the ribs.

<AAGH! NO! STOP IT! HEE-HEE-HEE! No! Rassa St-HEE-HEE-HA-HA! HOO-HOO! (Gasp!) put me- put meAH-HA-HA-HA! HELP! HEH-HEH-HEHEE-HEE-HEE>"HELP!"<HA-HA-HA-HA!>

And thus, Rassa tortured his struggling prisoner, kicking and laughing and pleading for mercy, as he carried her all the way to the bridge to report (and, of course, to show of his trophy).

"Wife found." He said to the pilot as he entered. "We go now."

Ally nodded, quickly tapping away. "This is the Inquisitor, ready for take off, over.", she'd speak into a holo mic floating next to her mouth. The sonic transmitters, AKA speakers, near her seat released the response. "Roger that, you're clear for lift off.", the flight control officer would announce, many workers around the ship jogging off.

Automatic Safe Flight Control, off. Flight Guides, off. Flight AI, off. Fuel usage limiter and speed limiter, off. Ally smiled and clicked a few more buttons, preparing the main systems. The ship then raised into the air, and made it's way into space, slowing down as it would get a few hundred meters away from the station now in the distance.

Any who weren't supported well on their feet would have probably been knocked unto the ground due to the high amount of resistance that was briefly there from the artifical atmosphere of the station. Another reason, (for another fall), would be that the ship stopped quickly after the quick launch.

"So, the destination?", Ally would ask her new captain. She felt alive when she was flying, and she obviously was one to enjoy high amounts of speed and risk when it came to flying. She seemed like she'd almost do better without the automated systems. Like they'd just get in her way.

[He's going to get a big shock when he finds out where they're going. So, how about we have him near the bridge instead, as that's where the talking is actually coming from?]

Laiya replied first: "We're exploring. If the captain is okay with it, I have a route plotted out around the place where we're supposed to go. Captain, will you hear me out?"

Laiya paid no heed to the Coyum carrying his wife into the bridge. She supposed there was quite the story behind it, but it wasn't professional to ask. She was (or at least, she hoped she was) entirely concerned with the captain, and what his response to her question would be. She could do this 'socialization' thing later, when they were coasting along their route and could take a break.

~

Aya picked herself up off the floor. She wasn't really concerned with the launch protocols- they weren't her business. What she was interested in were the vents. They were somewhat larger than on the ships that she had seen. She had never before studied an exploration vessel, though, which she supposed accounted for the difference. The extra space was probably there to let the carbon filters do better work. Aya wasn't quite sure, though, and so she headed over to the venting system so she could go see how it worked. She took off the vent cover, and examined the interior. She found one of the embedded filters, and checked it out. Aya moved quietly. She knew that the more noise she made, the more she was disturbing the environment, and, like a true scientist, she kept the environment the way it was.

The filter was nice and high-tech. It was designed to fit in a web with all the other filters in the Inquisitor, working together to purify the air so it was breathable. There was also a blinking yellow light. Aya knew enough about color codes to know that that was bad. Something was obstructing the function of the filter web. Aya whipped out her pocket computer and connected it to the filter. She read the information on her screen as the distress signal was downloaded and decoded.

There was an obstruction in the vents. Nearby, according to the signal, a large something, somewhat smaller than Aya herself (she also showed up on the screen) was blocking a good portion of the vents. Aya disengaged her computer and quickly and quietly got out of the vent. She replaced the vent cover and told everyone:

"There's an obstruction in the vent system. Probably a stowaway, it seems about the right size. I'm going to go scan the vents, radar and infrared. We'll see it if it's there."

Aya proceeded to do just that, and, when she looked up at her computer, was unusually serious. "It's a stowaway. Smallish, but it seems he has a weapon. He's also right by the bridge. Captain, what do you propose?"

(( @ActionPony Ohhhhh.... I thought they had already headed off to the kitchen... =P Derp. Yeah, I'll edit that... (||||||)O Also *gasp* how does Aya know this stuff?? She's seriously one smart cookie~! xD ))

"So, the destination?" asked Alyssa, and James barely opened his mouth before Laiya (of course, leave it to the navigator) answered her for him.

"We're exploring. If the captain is okay with it, I have a route plotted out around the place where we're supposed to go. Captain, will you hear me out?" Laiya asked, and the man almost scowled at her for interrupting him. He didn't, though, and instead simply nodded. She would know best, he figured. Otherwise, he wouldn't have hired her.

"Wife found." said a voice, and it didn't take a genius to realize it was Rassa. "We go now." the Coyum said, and James made a face at the struggling Yahlie enveloped in his arms. James raised an eyebrow at the alien, but the wolf-creature hadn't directed his statement at him. He ha said it to Alyssa, who didn't respond. James almost rolled his eyes.

"There's an obstruction in the vent system." said Aya suddenly, and James whipped his head around just in time to see her replacing a vent cover. "Probably a stowaway, it seems about the right size." The captain rolled his eyes. 'Are you kidding me?' he almost said aloud, but he still had enough self control to keep himself quiet. "I'm going to go scan the vents, radar and infrared. We'll see it if it's there." Aya continued, and James nodded approvingly. The cook did so quickly, before looking up seriously. "It's a stowaway. Smallish, but it seems he has a weapon. He's also right by the bridge. Captain, what do you propose?"

Great. Not only a stowaway, but one with a weapon as well. This trip was seeing to be great already. But he needed to stay calm. "Rassa, Yahlie, stay here with Alyssa." The man pointed at the two as he said their names, then shot the pilot a look. "You can watch 'em for a minute, right?" Before he could get a response, he turned to the navigator. "Laiya. You know this ship like the back of your hand. See if you can close off certain airways or rooms so we can trap this thing." James glanced around. "Where is Zeph?" he asked, a bit annoyed, before shaking himself. "Nevermind, we'll find him later. Let's get going." The captain stormed out of the room without another word.

~~~
The boy listened, interested in everything these people had been talking about. Apparently, they were explorers of some kind. He shook his head, rolling his eyes, at that. However, he narrowed his eyes when he heard one of the girls mention their plotted route. Before they could say anything else about it, a large wolf-like alien wearing only a loincloth entered the room, carrying a smaller wolf-alien-thing, this one seemingly female, judging by its clothes.
These two the boy didn't have much interest in, and so he ignored them, more or less. They did seem to have a higher ranking sense of smell than humans did though, and he froze when he saw the male alien face the vent. Luckily, the creature took no action, aside from turning away and saying something in its language to its sister... or wife... he wasn't sure which.
Suddenly, the boy heard a clanging noise, and his vision whipped over to where he saw a red-haired woman peering inside another vent opening. His eyes widened and he hurriedly tried to scurry back the way he had come before they figured out he was inside. It was too late for that, unfortunately, he found out a moment later.
"There's an obstruction in the vent system." said the woman. "Probably a stowaway, it seems about the right size. I'm going to go scan the vents, radar and infrared. We'll see it if it's there."
The boy started to panic, but kept trying to maintain his breathing in an attempt to stay calm. They couldn't catch him yet. They had just barely even made it out into space. He continued to shuffle backwards through the vents, mindful of his shoes and of the vents below that were prone to opening. Before he could get very far, he heard the girl's voice echo from the way he had come, after a moment of silence.
"It's a stowaway. Smallish, but it seems he has a weapon. He's also right by the bridge. Captain, what do you propose?" said the red-haired girl, and the boy stopped short. He needed to hear the captain's response if he was going to outwit these people. He stayed absolutely silent, and even scooted forward a bit so he could hear better.
"Rassa, Yahlie, stay here with Alyssa." said a male voice, and the boy figured those two must have been the wolf-aliens, judging by their odd names. "You can watch 'em for a minute, right?" He figured this was aimed at the 'Alyssa' he had mentioned. "Laiya. You know this ship like the back of your hand." The boy squinted. No way. He did. Not this 'Laiya' who had never set foot on this contraption if she could help it. "See if you can close off certain airways or rooms so we can trap this thing." The boy rolled his eyes. He knew the ship couldn't do anything fancy like that. "Where is Zeph?" the captain continued, before finishing with, "Nevermind, we'll find him later. Let's get going."
The boy figured they were leaving the bridge, and their conversation was over, so he continued his escape. He was concerned about this 'Zeph', but there was little time to dwell on him. He silently made his way back through the vents, before reaching a turn and heading down that way. He would head back to his hidey-hole, where his things were stashed, and then cut off the power to the ship by hacking the system through his holotab. That part would be easy. After that, he would reveal himself. They wouldn't be able to do anything to him, lest they be stranded in space, and he'd make them promise not to hurt him after he switched the power back on.
He breathed quietly to himself. That was the plan, at least. He told himself not to get too cocky. Then he stopped and smiled, before squeezing his eyes shut, shaking his head. Being cocky was his brother's job... but his brother wasn't here. He shook himself again and tried to focus. Breathing shakily, he continued down the vent.
James raised an eyebrow at the alien, but the wolf-creature hadn't directed his statement at him. He ha said it to Alyssa, who didn't respond. James almost rolled his eyes.
"There's an obstruction in the vent system." said Aya suddenly, and James whipped his head around just in time to see her replacing a vent cover. "Probably a stowaway, it seems about the right size." The captain rolled his eyes. 'Are you kidding me?' he almost said aloud, but he still had enough self control to keep himself quiet. "I'm going to go scan the vents, radar and infrared. We'll see it if it's there." Aya continued, and James nodded approvingly. The cook did so quickly, before looking up seriously. "It's a stowaway. Smallish, but it seems he has a weapon. He's also right by the bridge. Captain, what do you propose?"
Great. Not only a stowaway, but one with a weapon as well. This trip was seeing to be great already. But he needed to stay calm. "Rassa, Yahlie, stay here with Alyssa." The man pointed at the two as he said their names, then shot the pilot a look. "You can watch 'em for a minute, right?" Before he could get a response, he turned to the navigator. "Laiya. You know this ship like the back of your hand. See if you can close off certain airways or rooms so we can trap this thing." James glanced around. "Where is Zeph?" he asked, a bit annoyed, before shaking himself. "Nevermind, we'll find him later. Let's get going." The captain stormed out of the room without another word.
The boy listened, interested in everything these people had been talking about. Apparently, they were explorers of some kind. He shook his head, rolling his eyes, at that. However, he narrowed his eyes when he heard one of the girls mention their plotted route. Before they could say anything else about it, a large wolf-like alien wearing only a loincloth entered the room, carrying a smaller wolf-alien-thing, this one seemingly female, judging by its clothes.
These two the boy didn't have much interest in, and so he ignored them, more or less. They did seem to have a higher ranking sense of smell than humans did though, and he froze when he saw the male alien face the vent. Luckily, the creature took no action, aside from turning away and saying something in its language to its sister... or wife... he wasn't sure which.
Suddenly, the boy heard a clanging noise, and his vision whipped over to where he saw a red-haired woman peering inside another vent opening. His eyes widened and he hurriedly tried to scurry back the way he had come before they figured out he was inside. It was too late for that, unfortunately, he found out a moment later.
"There's an obstruction in the vent system." said the woman. "Probably a stowaway, it seems about the right size. I'm going to go scan the vents, radar and infrared. We'll see it if it's there."
The boy started to panic, but kept trying to maintain his breathing in an attempt to stay calm. They couldn't catch him yet. They had just barely even made it out into space. He continued to shuffle backwards through the vents, mindful of his shoes and of the vents below that were prone to opening. Before he could get very far, he heard the girl's voice echo from the way he had come, after a moment of silence.
"It's a stowaway. Smallish, but it seems he has a weapon. He's also right by the bridge. Captain, what do you propose?" said the red-haired girl, and the boy stopped short. He needed to hear the captain's response if he was going to outwit these people. He stayed absolutely silent, and even scooted forward a bit so he could hear better.
"Rassa, Yahlie, stay here with Alyssa." said a male voice, and the boy figured those two must have been the wolf-aliens, judging by their odd names. "You can watch 'em for a minute, right?" He figured this was aimed at the 'Alyssa' he had mentioned. "Laiya. You know this ship like the back of your hand." The boy squinted. No way. He did. Not this 'Laiya' who had never set foot on this contraption if she could help it. "See if you can close off certain airways or rooms so we can trap this thing." The boy rolled his eyes. He knew the ship couldn't do anything fancy like that. "Where is Zeph?" the captain continued, before finishing with, "Nevermind, we'll find him later. Let's get going."
The boy figured they were leaving the bridge, and their conversation was over, so he continued his escape. He was concerned about this 'Zeph', but there was little time to dwell on him. He silently made his way back through the vents, before reaching a turn and heading down that way. He would head back to his hidey-hole, where his things were stashed, and then cut off the power to the ship by hacking the system through his holotab. That part would be easy. After that, he would reveal himself. They wouldn't be able to do anything to him, lest they be stranded in space, and he'd make them promise not to hurt him after he switched the power back on.
He breathed quietly to himself. That was the plan, at least. He told himself not to get too cocky. Then he stopped and smiled, before squeezing his eyes shut, shaking his head. Being cocky was his brother's job... but his brother wasn't here. He shook himself again and tried to focus. Breathing shakily, he continued down the vent.
Oh. Oops.
Zephyr was still in the engine room. To be exact, sitting on the floor of the engine room fighting off a wave of nausea. "Who the heck is piloting this thing?" He practically yelled at the empty room, choking back the urge to puke. His claustrophobia was already making him feel sick and the violent movements of this flying death-trap were not helping.
The room finally stopped spinning and Zeph slowly climbed back to his feet. Guess Lady Luck is finally demanding payment for all the good luck earlier, he thought with a sad chuckle. His self pity however was interrupted by banging coming from the ventilation above his head. "Huh?" Did the ship have rats? No, it was too big. Knowing his luck, it could be-
"Oh gosh! Please don't let it be a mutant space rat... with rabies!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As soon as the Alpha land-walker had said "let's get going." Blink dove for the vent, disappearing just before he hit the grate. The audible pop of his reappearance echoed through the duct and Blink began to sniff around. The metal box stunk of stale, recycled air, but there was also the scent of a young land-walker. This must be the one that they were after. Stalking down the duct, the little dragon followed the boy's trail. It was time for the mighty hunter to get to work! To find the hatchling! And to prove his worth to the new flock!
"Who the heck is piloting this thing?" the boy heard a voice yell from up ahead, and he silently cursed his luck. This must have been 'Zeph'. Well, he should be easy to take care of. At least things couldn't get any worse. Clang. The boy cringed. He'd accidentally knocked one of the vent walls, and it had been rather loud. Maybe this guy hadn't-- "Huh? Oh gosh! Please don't let it be a mutant space rat... with rabies!" came the voice, and the boy cringed again, though this time with his accompanying rolling eyes.
He was just about to climb down and take care of this 'Zeph', when he heard a noise from behind him. It sounded like a snuffling, clacking noise... almost like a mutant space rat... No! The boy shook his head, annoyed at himself for being so stupid. It must have been some sort of alien pet, no doubt set after his scent like a watchdog.
He couldn't shoot at it from inside the vent-- too loud; too risky. Not to mention dangerous. The knife wouldn't work either. He'd have to turn around to use it, and that wasn't an option. He hesitated for a moment, not sure what to do, until he looked back down through the vent for a second time, to get a better look at his soon-to-be opponent.
The boy barely even noticed the other boy's large, green wings. He'd seen weirder things, even in his short lifetime, and besides, he almost felt sympathetic to this guy. He was probably always used to feeling like the 'weird one'. And he knew how that felt. It sucked.
The boy was so lost in his thoughts, he barely noticed he'd been moving forwards, and next moment he felt the vent grate below him giving way. He tried to regain his balance, but it was no use. He toppled out of the vent, turning his fall into a roll expertly. He whipped around to face 'Zeph' and fumbled for his gun. He'd dropped it when he fell, and he kicked himself mentally for being so stupid.
He pulled it out, finally, and pointed it at the winged boy, not saying a word. It made him seem more menacing, he thought later, but in all honesty, he was too exasperated at the moment to even think about talking. His brother would know what to say, he realized, if he were here. His brother had always done the talking. He mentally shook himself and tried to focus on this 'Zeph' guy.
"So... Laiya, I think, once you're ready just give me the course...", Alyssa would ask her, constantly glancing at Rassa and Yahlie. She stretched, and pulled out something of her bag. Alyssa wondered what the stowaway looked like, that would be interesting. And where Blink went off too, probably to track that person, that poor, poor person. She wondered if Blink would kill him or not, as she dug through her bag.
Ally pulled out a large red container and a cup, and it seemed that there were many more of these two items. She opened the container and poured in it's contents into this cup, a powder of sorts, and simply blew on it. The powder erupted into an almost perfect fill of the cup, and it was coffee.
She smiled, got a few packets of sugar, and poured it into the coffee. "Anyone want some?", she'd ask. Ally figured Rassa and Yahlie might, it wasn't too strong, more sweet, how little kids would want it.
(...Woah! Ok just went from take-off to tea-party in the blink of an eye. Give me a moment.)
( @xXxKateKaysxXx why didn't the captain want Rassa or Yahlie to help with the stowaway hunt?)
(Guys, can we please put the Occ comments in the Occ area.)
(Also, ship can't leave without the captain's say)
CRASH!
"Ahh! Please don't eat... me... " Zeph's scream of terror trailed off as he realized that was not a man eating rodent that had dropped from the ceiling but a human boy. "Oh, he-he. You- you scared me there, kid. He-he... What's that in your..."
Zephyr tensed up as soon as he realized that the boy was holding a gun. He slowly raised his hands in front of him in a none threatening manner. "You- you can put the weapon down, kid." He said cautiously. "I'm no threat."
Just then Blink popped his head out of the vent, looked around the room, and let out a series of victorious chirps when he spotted the boy. He had found his pray!
Knowing how Blink operated, it only took Zeph a second to piece together what was going on. Obviously the kid was a stowaway and Blink was hunting him. But Blink never hunted something bigger than him unless he was trying to impress someone, and he always let that person know that he was chasing something. Since Blink hadn't been hanging around Zephyr recently, that meant that someone else on the crew was looking for the boy.
"In fact," he continued, a plan formulating in his mind and a smile creeping onto his face. "Not only am I not a threat, I'm an ally." Zeph felt sympathetic towards the stowaway, having been one himself, and wanted to help. Grabbing his pack, he began to dig through college textbooks, blueprints, a book on Greek Language, and several half complete mechanical creations, before finding what he was looking for.
"Here. Put this this on and flip the switch on the side." Zeph told him, tossing an armband with several wires sticking out of it to the kid. "It will hide your signature from any kind of scans the ship can make." He explained. "Radar, sonar, thermal, you name it. It can't hide you visually though, so avoid security cameras." As an after-thought, he looked around the room for any cameras. None. That's good... Actually, that's probably a huge design flaw. I'll have to instal one later. "Blink. I want you to lead anyone coming towards this room away."
Blink gave the winged boy suspicious look. You want me to betray the flock? To make them lose their prey?... Okay! The feathered dragon flew out of the room and down the hall, anticipating the belly rub that was going to come later.
Zeph turned back to the boy. "Just in case that doesn't work, you should find somewhere to hide."
"So, the destination?" asked Alyssa, and James barely opened his mouth before Laiya (of course, leave it to the navigator) answered her for him.
Laiya nodded quickly got to her computer. She fluidly ordered the computer to seal off key sections, making navigation of the ship nigh-on impossible without advanced knowledge of its schematics. There were doors all over the
Inquisitor, and even the smallest area could be sealed off. Standard construction. It ensured that as much air as possible could be held in the ship in case of a hull breach. And then, she depressurized them, and all the areas around them.
Although Laiya didn't know it, she had sealed off the secret compartment where the boy had stashed his stuff.
Laiya then began the action of depressurizing the vent system. She couldn't keep it up too long, but that was okay. She'd force the little rat who stowed away to show himself, or die in the vent. She'd repressurize it in thirty minutes. She called out to the rest of the crew:
"I'm depressurizing the vent system. If you're going to go anywhere there, take your breath masks."
She then hit enter on the command, and, as per the
Inquisitor's safety system, a warning echoed through the ship:
"Depressurizing Venting System."
Laiya then told the pilot: "I have a route planned. I'm sending it to your computer now. To avoid the stowaway, it stops by no inhabited planets. We're going directly out of the explored galaxy. Key it into autopilot or do it manually, but stick it so the ship can't get off it, and make the Jump into Warp. That should help thwart the stowaway."
And, if that wasn't enough, she'd black out
all of the Inquisitor's nav systems. If necessary, with a hammer. She knew where the escape craft were located, and she could get the crew out, but the crippled Inquisitor wouldn't be going anywhere. Laiya really hated hijackers, which she suspected the stowaway was. When she had a goal, she liked to be able to reach it. She automatically panicked and overreacted when she thought that all her hopes for the Inquisitor's journey would be dashed. Laiya was not ordinarily a ruthless character, but she did have a disorder that sometimes resembled OCD.
At the sudden excelleration, Rassa, his wife still slung over his shoulder, staggered trying to keep his balance, and at the sudden stop, flew forward, sending both of them into control board. Rassa sorta slammed his top half all along the nobs and switches while Yahlie was sent sprawling backwards across it. Between the two of them, who knows how many buttons they pressed/sat on.
Rassa got up and rubbed his bruised jaw, scowling at Alyssa, his ears flat. "Maybe driver WARN next time?" He growled. "Hmm?" Sheesh! If the whole trip was going to be like this, he'd feel safet with Yahlie driving.
...
A few moments later, the crew seemed to have taken an interest in the ventilation shaft. Apparently, there WAS something crawling around in there. Something called a "stow-way" and it had weapon with it. The captain went to go find the creature but, to Rassas disgruntlement, didn't invite him along for the hunt. He wondered if the captain didn't trust him.
"Any one for coffee?" Asked the crazy driver.
Rassa gave the steaming cup she was holding a funny look, one ear cocked. Coffee? That horrible black bean-tea that tastes like feet?? Did he WANT it, she asks??? ABSOLUTELY. He wasn't sure why but he kind of liked that abominable brew.
"Yes." He said. "Rassa have. Thank you. Um? What is "Stow-way"?
(Yahlie is curiously looking at the controls)
Ally smiled as she handed Rassa a cup of the sweet brew. She ignored Rassa's early bantering, and hopefully they didn't de-activate something too important. "Oh, a stow-away? They're people who sneak on board ships without permission.", she would explain. Ally then also looked over at Rassa. "Maybe I can teach you how to drive, one day..", she'd say quietly, and then looked back at Rassa.
She smiled and handed him her holopad. "I'm not using it right now, so go ahead and play around with it.", she'd tell him, then listening to Laiya's message to her. Alyssa nodded along to it, and then responded.
"Roger that, piloting now.", she'd say, sipping her coffee and piloting manually on the WASD command in the other hand. Ally kicked back and relaxed, and truly looked like a careless teenager, but she was just wondering and thinking her mind away.
(( @MrMopp Well, he's still not too sure about them, for one thing (sorry, he knows he's paranoid). Also, he knows Yahlie's very squirrely, and Rassa is more used to dealing with her than Alyssa is. Otherwise, Rassa would totally be on the hunt rn xD ))
"Ahh! Please don't eat... me... " the winged boy cried, and the stowaway ignored the urge to roll his eyes. Before he could respond with a simple, "I'm not going to eat you," 'Zeph' spoke again, this time much more relieved. "Oh, heh heh. You-- you scared me there, kid. Heh heh... What's that in your..." 'Zeph' caught sight of the gun, and his expression quickly changed to caution as he tensed. "You-- you can put the weapon down, kid." he said, raising his hands in surrender. "I'm no threat."
The boy squinted. Sure. What with the huge green wings, and all. This guy could most likely fly or something, and that was treading on dangerous ground. At least this 'Zeph' (or who he supposed was Zeph) had the right mind not to try any funny business (yet).
Before another word was said, a small, cat-sized, feathered alien emerged from the vent, squeaking and chirping as it caught sight of the boy on the floor. The attack dog. The boy switched his aim at the creature, though still managing to keep an eye on 'Zeph'. At least 'Zeph', he could reason with.
"In fact," 'Zeph' continued upon seeing the creature, a smile creeping onto his lips. The boy figured the seraph was friendly with the alien, and the smile made him wary. "Not only am I not a threat, I'm an ally." The boy raised an eyebrow, though squinting. He didn't dare speak. He waited until this guy had revealed his plan. The green-winged boy began to dig through his own belongings, and the other took note of the textbooks and inventions inside. "Here. Put this this on and flip the switch on the side." 'Zeph' said, holding out an armband with several wires sticking out of it.
The boy looked at it warily, then back up to 'Zeph'. "It will hide your signature from any kind of scans the ship can make." the latter explained. "Radar, sonar, thermal, you name it. It can't hide you visually though, so avoid security cameras." The boy squinted again. No way was he putting this on. It was probably a trap. Probably something to keep him contained, like a shock collar of sorts, or a tracking device.
After examining the room, 'Zeph' turned to the feathered alien. "Blink," he said, and the boy figured that was its name. "I want you to lead anyone coming towards this room away." Apparently, 'Blink' and this (supposed) 'Zeph' guy were really close. Especially since he'd just told him to lead everyone else away from the room. 'Blink' seemed confused by the statement as well, but nonetheless did as he was told, and dashed from the room quickly. "Just in case that doesn't work, you should find somewhere to hide." 'Zeph' said again, this time to him.
"Why are you helping me? Who are you?" the boy asked involuntarily, re-aiming the gun towards the other instinctively. He realized it was the first words he'd spoken since getting here, and mentally kicked himself. He couldn't help it, though. "How do I know this" --he held up the armband he'd been given-- "isn't some sort of trick? How do I know you didn't just tell that alien to go lead your friends here by using some secret code words?" That's what he would've done. His brother had trained him well, he guessed.
"Depressurizing venting system," said a computed voice from above suddenly, and the boy couldn't help but glance upwards. He mentally rolled his eyes. A lot of help that'd do them now. It also made him almost grateful he'd fallen out of the vent when he did. Otherwise, he may have been suffocated to death. He tried not to think about it.
~~~

James mumbled a curse word or two under his breath. Of all the things to happen on this expedition, this was the thing he had least of all hoped for. A stowaway. Great. Now he'd either have to get rid of this guy (by dropping him off or by killing him if worst came to worst), or bring him along, the latter of which the captain was not leaning towards.

"Depressurizing venting system," came the ethereal voice of the A.I. from above, and James knew it must have been Laiya working her magic. So, apparently that meant this little rat was toast. A pity, really. He almost felt sick, when he realized they'd have to fish some person's suffocated corpse from inside the venting system. He didn't know for sure if it was a kid, but it wax highly likely, unless it was a very small adult able to fit through the small passageways. The thought made him feel sicker.

"What're we gonna do...?" he muttered to himself, both annoyed and disgusted with both himself and the other crew members, particularly Laiya. The heck did she have against some kid? Well, come to think of it, the kid could still be alive (James scolded himself when he felt his hoped rise). Maybe he'd made it out before Laiya had done anything.

He headed towards the engine room, figuring this must have been where Zeph had sped off to. Darn kid. He still needed his book on the Coyum back, he noted, and frowned to himself for letting Zeph see it. Before he was down the hall, Blink came from nowhere, speeding towards him quickly. "What the...?" the man cried, jumping out of the way. "Blink? What are you doing? Where's Zeph?" The captain paused, before facepalming at the realization he had just tried to communicate with a wild feathered alien.

The boy switched his aim at the creature, though still managing to keep an eye on 'Zeph'. At least 'Zeph', he could reason with.

"In fact," 'Zeph' continued upon seeing the creature, a smile creeping onto his lips. The boy figured the seraph was friendly with the alien, and the smile made him wary. "Not only am I not a threat, I'm an ally." The boy raised an eyebrow, though squinting. He didn't dare speak. He waited until this guy had revealed his plan. The green-winged boy began to dig through his own belongings, and the other took note of the textbooks and inventions inside. "Here. Put this this on and flip the switch on the side." 'Zeph' said, holding out an armband with several wires sticking out of it.

The boy looked at it warily, then back up to 'Zeph'. "It will hide your signature from any kind of scans the ship can make." the latter explained. "Radar, sonar, thermal, you name it. It can't hide you visually though, so avoid security cameras." The boy squinted again. No way was he putting this on. It was probably a trap. Probably something to keep him contained, like a shock collar of sorts, or a tracking device.

After examining the room, 'Zeph' turned to the feathered alien. "Blink," he said, and the boy figured that was its name. "I want you to lead anyone coming towards this room away." Apparently, 'Blink' and this (supposed) 'Zeph' guy were really close. Especially since he'd just told him to lead everyone else away from the room. 'Blink' seemed confused by the statement as well, but nonetheless did as he was told, and dashed from the room quickly. "Just in case that doesn't work, you should find somewhere to hide." 'Zeph' said again, this time to him.

"Why are you helping me? Who are you?" the boy asked involuntarily, re-aiming the gun towards the other instinctively. He realized it was the first words he'd spoken since getting here, and mentally kicked himself. He couldn't help it, though. "How do I know this" --he held up the armband he'd been given-- "isn't some sort of trick? How do I know you didn't just tell that alien to go lead your friends here by using some secret code words?" That's what he would've done. His brother had trained him well, he guessed.

"Depressurizing venting system," said a computed voice from above suddenly, and the boy couldn't help but glance upwards. He mentally rolled his eyes. A lot of help that'd do them now. It also made him almost grateful he'd fallen out of the vent when he did. Otherwise, he may have been suffocated to death. He tried not to think about it.

[Laiya's idea was not to kill him, it was to force him out. It takes some time for the full depressurization to take hold, and a human can hold their breath for several minutes.]

A message flashed up on Laiya's computer screen. She told Alyssa: "Wait a second, one stop at Evangelion Station. I'll give you the position. We need to go pick up our medic."

Laiya sent over the Evangelion Station position to Alyssa, and took deep breaths and thought over her actions. As she calmed down, the full implications of what she'd done in depressurizing the venting system came back to her. She immediately turned the pressure back on, with the computerized voice announcing:

"Venting system repressurized"

and then sat quietly in her chair, overcome by her choice. She knew that she often freaked out and acted rashly in those sorts of situations, but that wasn't an excuse. That just made it more her fault.

Aya ran through the ship, attempting to find the stowaway, but getting completely lost in the process. She wished she had Laiya's seemingly-encyclopediac knowledge of the ship. She, although she didn't know it, was also headed towards the engine room. She was trying to find the stowaway. She didn't like him, but she also thought that depressurizing the venting system was going too far. She would have to have a talk with Laiya.

She, consumed in thought, only noticed the captain when she collided with him. Down she went, falling onto her butt and looking quite undignified.

Blink came to a sudden stop just behind the alpha and the female land-walker. Alright. Lead them away. Diving down towards the vent and sniffed around the grate. Letting out a victorious cry, Blink zoomed down the left hallway, only to come flying back. He grabbed onto the alpha's fur and began pulling, 'subtly' hinting that he wanted the two to follow.

"Why are you helping me? Who are you? How do I know this isn't some sort of trick? How do I know you didn't just tell that alien to go lead your friends here by using some secret code words?"

"Blink? Secret code words? As if! The last time I tried to teach him that he got bored and fell asleep." Zeph hopped up and gave the open vent a wack, swinging it up and closed. "Name's Zephyr. And I'm probably the only other guy here whose been a stowaway and knows how harsh it can be without someone on your side. And seriously, you can put the gun down."

He began digging in his pack again and produced two bolts. He walked back to the vent and loosely screwed the bolts into it, giving the grate the illusion of being sealed.

"So as long as you're not taking my advice on hiding, what's your story?"

(( @ActionPony I hate to be a stickler, but there is NO WAY Laiya could have possibly found his stuff. The secret compartments were just that: secret. They weren't included in any design plan, and the only people who knew about them were members of the family... Again, sorry to be nitpicky... I was trying to make sure things wouldn't get too convenient for you guys, but apparently you like that. So from now on, I'm not gonna reveal my plans for the sake of perfectly-timed realizations...))

"Venting system repressurized," said the ominous voice of the AI, and James breathed softly. Hopefuly the stowaway wasn't... you know. Then again, though, if he was, it'd sure as heck be a lot easier to dispose of a body rather than deal with him in person. Suddenly, something slammed into him from behind, and he whirled, only to find Aya, who had fallen back onto her behind.

"You okay?" James asked, offering her a hand up. He didn't apologize. He hadn't done a darn thing. She was the one who had rammed into him, rather hard too. He was too well trained to be knocked over just like that, however, and barely moved when the two came into contact. "You here for the kid, or Zeph?" he asked.

Before he could respond, however, Blink had taken hold of his sleeve and was tugging him down the hallway, away from the engine room. The small alien beast was chirping wildly, and the man almost grinned.

"Hey," he called, turning to Aya, "I think the little guy's got something. I'll check it out. You head to the engine room and see if Zeph's there. Probably is. Shouldn't be that hard to find a kid with huge, green wings, right?" Without another word, the man turned back to Blink, nodding for him to continue forwards.

"Blink? Secret code words? As if! The last time I tried to teach him that he got bored and fell asleep." said the winged boy, before reaching up and slamming the vent he'd emerged from closed. The other boy narrowed his eyes, still wary.

"You could be lying," he suggested. He would. His brother would. His dad would. He figured he was more like them than he would have liked to believe. It gave him a weird feeling when he thought about it, but tried not to let it show.

"Name's Zephyr," said the seraph, confirming the boy's suspicions as to his identity. "And I'm probably the only other guy here whose been a stowaway and knows how harsh it can be without someone on your side. And seriously, you can put the gun down." The boy didn't put the gun down. Not yet.

"You're a stowaway?" he asked, hearing a small scoff even in his own voice. "I heard the captain talking about you. He knows you're here and he wants you here. You're one of them. You're not a stowaway." Sure, this 'Zephyr' had probably meant in the past, but he could still be lying even then. There really wasn't any way to be sure.

Zephyr began to dig through his bag again, and the boy held his breath. Luckily, it was only a few screws, which the seraph used to re-screw the vent grate back in. Okay, so maybe he was being a little paranoid, but still! After everything he'd been taught, it was better to be paranoid then dead. He didn't move the gun.

"Venting system repressurized." said the voice from above again, and the boy grimaced.

"So as long as you're not taking my advice on hiding, what's your story?" The question stunned him. Zephyr looked at him expectantly, and it took a moment for him to respond.

"Wha... Why would I tell you?" he gasped finally, surprised that this guy would ask such a question so early in their meeting. Usually bad guys gained his trust first (well, tried to). He figured Zeph here would pull out the whole 'Because I'm the One Saving Your Butt' card, but like heck he was going to tell him anything.

((Sorry for the wait, my wi-fi seriously is being a butt =P ))

"Oh, a stow-away?" The black haired human explained, "They're people who sneak on board ships without permission.", the dark haired human explained as she handed Rassa his coffee.

Rassa took the cup. "Mm. "

She looked over at Rassa.

"Maybe I can teach you how to drive, one day.."

Um, ok sure. Why not. He didn't exactly ask toOHHHhhhh that was a dig at his earlier criticism, wasn't it? Well, no regrets. "Maybe." he responded non-committaly.

The odd woman then handed Rassa her light-plate. "I'm not using it right now, so go ahead and play around with it."

...Eh, why not. He needed to let his coffee cool anyway (have you ever tried lapping up hot coffe with your tongue?). Oh, Look. Angry Birds . Heh heh.

Mean while, whilst everyone was busy piloting, conducting pneumatic pest control, or otherwise raining avian terror upon the pig menace, Yahlie had been admiring the pretty blinky lights like all along the drivers-table. She was being a good girl so far and had refrained from pushing any of them, but that could only last so long and that BIG Red Button behind the glass lid was starting to look verrrry pushable. Heck, she could even tell that it had "PUSH" written on it. (Well, okay there were actually three words, one being "DO" and the other being "NOT", but "PUSH" was the important one!) She wondered what it did...

Alyssa looked over at Yahlie and her eyes widened. If she pressed that button, they'd all die. It would close the security doors first, lock the piloting system, and then the alarms would begin to flare, the bright red lights would accompany the loud shrieking of warning. And then..

BLAMMO! THE END! They'd all die in one gigantic fiery ball of hopeless doom and complete utter destruction. And for nothing, for nothing!

She had to do what she had to. Alyssa got up quickly, leaving her coffee on the mini-table extending from the control center, (where the Holo Board was), and tackled Yahlie. "No. No pressing buttons of any kind like that.", Ally would say, her face extremely close to the alien's. If she had to, she would beat that information into Yahlie's head.

If anything, Alyssa didn't want to die before at least visiting one planet, and especially she didn't want to die in such a stupid way.
