The Office [The Board of Inhuman Affairs]

Excellent. I am ready to get started.

Question on skills: what is the rating for the skills. At what level would you be professional.

Also, what does educations levels relate to. What is your standard college graduate have?

I had the same questions also I assume that 40 is human average for Traits?

You'd be a professional around 60-70

Standard graduate would be around 50-60

40 is just the near-minimum, rather than the average.

Between 40-55 would be the average, I'd say, rather than a fixed point.

That's good enough for me just so I have range to go off of.

Next question:

So are we adding Trait to skill and having to roll under that?

Nope, you roll d100 and hope to get under your Skill or Trait. Traits will sometimes benefit you passively without being rolled, while Skills must nearly always be rolled, and you can use a Trait to fill in for a skill you don't have.

Rolling lower than the rating is a Normal Success.

Rolling lower than half the rating is a Hard Success - works out even better than planned.

Rolling lower than one fifth of the rating is an Extreme Success - essentially a nat 20.

So, my question is, what departments can we be from? Are we all assumed to be FBI? CIA? Or will Dept. Of State be possible? How about National Archives? Or Smithsonian Institution?

All and none are fair game. You were probably picked up after exposure to the Dreamland, though. My laptop is out of order, so I can't post the setting info. Or post much if anything. Might take a week to scrounge up a replacement part

Thanks for the information. I was surprised to have you respond as quickly as you did. I posted in the hopes that a couple days from now I might have the info to wrap up that character.

What part are you missing? If is is something common I have tons of parts for a few different models sitting around not doing anything but taking up space.

Your Transmundane skills are capped by your Attunement, except Oneironautics.

You get one spell of appropriate power with every 10 points in Noetics or Quantum Entanglement, but Metaphysics is the domain of the party's actual sorcerer.

Is there anything else I need on my character? I left the background a bit vague, I did not want to add to much without know what other changes the world may have.

A little more backstory or personality profile would be good. Feel free to vaguely refer to some case that got him in the sights of the office.

Hm. Not sure you guys have high enough skills so I'm going to be monitoring that carefully and possibly throw out some buffs.

When you try to do anything, see if you can't wring an Advantage Die out of me.

Rolls work in the classic way - take 2d10, declare one of them the ten die, and roll 'em. You want to roll under the trait or skill. But if I think you've gotten yourself an advantage in the situation, I'll give you an extra d10 to be a ten-die. Then you can choose the lower of the two for your result instead.

Sounds good I'll add to his background soon, just wanted to make sure I was not going to step on any plot "toes", as it were.

There weren't a whole lot of skill points to cover a wide range of skills. I used 10 of those points just to get to +10 in the sciences and one engineering skill. If you need to have 45-60 to be at professional level, you would need to use 12 points in Physics just to be a Physics Professor. You wouldn't have much left over for everything else.

J-M was fortunately in a liberal arts program so I only needed a base level to cover a lot of skills. But giving yourself a wide range of skills means you can't have good skills in anything.

Hm, yeah, that's not good.

Everyone take another 20 points and we'll see how that looks.

Okay. Added the 20 points. Some of the skills are much better. Also got a little more diversity. Not sure which skills you were hoping to have higher. I hope they are more in line.

Good lord. Sure, I can take a stab! Let me brew an idea and look over my fellow players to not step on toes too badly.
